Warrick entered his home through the garage door, and he quickly disarmed and then armed the alarm so that it wouldn't keep beeping.
This damn thing, he thought to himself.
The alarm system he purchased when he and Sara first bought their home was state of the art, guaranteeing maximum protection for his family and property, just as he told the salesman he wanted, but dammit was it loud and obnoxious when they didn't need it to be!
Once he got his home secured again, he walked down the short vestibule that led him past the laundry room and kitchen, then he walked across the den to the hallway that led to the bedrooms.
He peeked into the nursery, and he saw his wife sitting in the rocker with three months old Gemma Elise, affectionately called Gigi, cradled in her arms, who was getting her morning meal from her mother's breast.
Sara looked up from the infant and she smiled at her husband.
"Hi," she said.
"Hi," he said as he came over and leaned in and kissed her tenderly, then he smoothed over Gemma's soft, dark curly hair. "Did Gigi sleep through the night again?"
"She did," Sara sighed with relief. "I was able to get some sleep. You will too now that we've got her on a schedule."
"Thank God," he said quietly.
Gigi stopped nursing, and she turned her head away from Sara's breast.
"Are you all full, sweet girl?" Sara cooed as she fixed her pajama top, then she handed the baby over to Warrick, who gently situated her on his shoulder and began to burp her.
"How was work last night?"
"Not too bad, just preparing a couple of cases for court," Warrick reported. "But I'm glad to be home."
Sara kissed him lovingly.
"We're glad you're home."
After a few more minutes of rubbing and gently patting at Gigi's back, a burp escaped her tiny body.
"Good one," Warrick grinned.
Not a moment later, Gigi let out a fart and pooped her diaper.
"Oh time to get a change, sweet girl," Sara cooed. "Yeah…and lucky you, 'cause Daddy's here to get you all cleaned up."
Warrick grimaced. "What? No… C'mon, babe…"
"Hey, no excuses, mister, time to get in the trenches. Besides, you see worse than poop everyday at work..."
"Yeah, but…I can't handle poop."
"Well, then this will be character building for you. Have fun, sweetie. I'm gonna go change for our workout."
With that, Sara left the nursery.
"Babe…seriously?"
"Breathe through your mouth, sweetie."
Sara went into the bedroom she shared with her husband and she went into the bathroom and grabbed her brush.
"Oh…Gigi! Babe! Help!"
Sara heard the baby crying, and Warrick fretting.
"What is going on?" Sara called.
"She's still pooping!"
"You can do it, 'Rick."
She brushed her hair, then pulled it back into a ponytail.
She went over to her dresser and pulled out her exercise wear and changed into it out of her pajamas.
"Aw…aw man…"
That man is being so dramatic right now, Sara thought to herself as she rolled her eyes. "You can do it, sweetheart."
After another ten minutes, Warrick appeared in their bedroom, a content Gigi in his arms.
"You okay?" Sara asked.
"Uh, yeah," he said. "I think so. I'm a little nauseous…I gagged a few times, but…I'm good."
Sara came over and kissed him with a giggle as she took Gigi into her arms. "My champion. Yay, Daddy did it, Gigi!"
The baby grinned at her Daddy, and it warmed his heart.
"Yeah, Daddy loves you, princess."
Warrick changed into his workout clothes, then they headed to their home gym.
Sara put Gigi in the swing they had set up in the room so that they could still be near her and be able to tend to her right then and there when she cried.
Warrick started his run on the treadmill, and Sara followed along to one of her pilates DVDs.
Gigi entertained herself with the toys that were attached to the swing while her parents got their workouts in.
An hour later, they finished their workouts and toweled off, then Warrick picked Gigi up.
"Hi, baby girl," he cooed, kissing her tiny nose.
"Look at you two," Sara grinned. "Our little cutie's got you wrapped around her tiny baby finger, you big softie."
"You know what? I'm not ashamed of that," he said. "And we did make a cute kid."
"Yeah," she agreed.
They went into the kitchen, and Sara washed her hands, dried them off with paper towels, then she got to work on breakfast while Warrick cradled Gigi. She put on a pot of coffee, then she began to make their breakfast.
"Babe," Warrick began as he adjusted the giant bow on Gigi's head. "These bows are ridiculous…"
She turned and gave him a look. "Ridiculously adorable. And stylish."
"She's a baby, what does she know about stylish?"
"Well, if I left it up to you, she'd always just be in plain onesies," she chuckled as she chopped sweet potatoes. "No comments from the Peanut Gallery on our sweet girl's bows."
Sara made a tofu scramble, sweet potato, bell pepper, and avocado hash, sliced up some fruit, and made some butter toast and preserves.
They sat down to breakfast and Warrick said grace over their meal then they began to eat.
"Mm, I love your cooking, babe," Warrick complimented.
"Thank you sweetie," Sara said.
After breakfast, Sara took Gigi into her arms while Warrick cleaned up the dishes for her, then they headed to their bedroom. Sara put Gigi into the bassinet by their bed, then they went into their bathroom. Sara turned on the water for a shower, then she put her hair up and shed her clothes, as did Warrick.
They both stepped into the stall together, and Warrick immediately drew his wife to him and kissed her languid and deep.
"Mm," Sara purred as she gently nibbled his bottom lip. "Mr. Brown…"
He raked his eyes over her. "Mrs. Brown."
They kissed slow and sensual, caressing each other, both of them becoming aroused.
"Mm, 'Rick," she moaned softly as he kissed over her neck.
Gigi started crying, and Warrick groaned a bit, and Sara kissed his cheek.
"Gigi's got some timing," Warrick sighed.
They washed and then they toweled off and Warrick dressed in sleep clothes and Sara dressed for the day.
"Good night, sweetie, get some rest," Sara said as she kissed Warrick.
"Night."
"We'll be here," she said as she gently bounced Gigi, then she turned out the light and headed out of their room.
Gigi began to whine, and it was a hungry whine, and Sara went into the living room and sat down with the baby. Sara unbuttoned her blouse and pushed the cup of her bra aside and gave Gigi her breast. The baby quieted as she nursed and Sara smoothed over her daughter's downy hair.
"Mommy loves you sweet girl," she cooed.
Sometimes, Sara still couldn't believe that she was here, living her life this way: wife, mother, homemaker… There have been so many changes in a short amount of time. Of course things changed, Gemma was on her way into the world, so Sara and Warrick had some decisions to make about their future, and they had to make them fast because Gigi would not wait.
She and Warrick completely surprised their coworkers with their disclosure of their relationship and pregnancy. Nick and Greg probed them for details of just exactly how they wound up together, considering how it started, and Grissom and Catherine were both floored.
They knew that conversations needed to happen because there was no going back.
It took a few months for it all to sink in, that they were really a happy, expectant couple, and eventually, Grissom and Catherine's initial shock turned to happiness for them.
In the early days of her pregnancy, the love she and Warrick found and shared with each other was brand new, and they knew that they wanted to be together together to welcome their baby and be a family, but it looked different for both of them; Sara was content with cohabitation with no desire to get married any time soon, while Warrick thought that they should get married some time because he wanted Gigi to be born into a solid family unit, and he also would never hear the end of it from his devout Catholic grandmother and aunt if they just shacked up with a baby.
Warrick's Mama Gert and Aunt Bertha were beside themselves with excitement over news of the baby, and they immediately asked when Warrick planned on marrying the mother of his child.
Then there was the matter of where they were going to live.
Sara laughed softly.
She and Warrick left nothing to chance, and now here they were, husband and wife, with their sweet little Gigi, in their blessed home in North Las Vegas.
The minivan is a nice touch too, she mused.
