Prologue
It was a cold night in Godric's Hollow. The little houses were quiet, and everything was still. But one house wasn't still at all. It was broken, with smoke curling up from the roof and the front door hanging off its hinges. Inside, it was a mess.
Sirius Black, riding his big black motorbike, skidded to a stop in front of the house. His hands shook as he jumped off. "No, no, no!" he said. He ran to the doorway, his heart pounding.
The house had been blown apart. The walls had scorch marks, and there was broken furniture everywhere. "Lily! James!" he shouted, but no one answered. Then he saw them, lying still on the floor. His best friends. Gone.
Sirius felt like he couldn't breathe. His eyes filled with tears. "No…" he whispered. But then, he heard something—a tiny cry.
"Harry?" he called, looking around. "Harry, where are you?"
He followed the sound and found a little baby boy sitting in his crib, tears rolling down his cheeks. There was a small lightning-shaped cut on his forehead. It was Harry, safe and alive. Sirius's hands shook as he reached in and picked him up.
"It's okay, Harry. I'm here. It's going to be alright," he said, hugging him tight. Harry grabbed onto his jacket, sniffling. Sirius looked around. He had to get Harry out of there. Whoever had done this might come back.
Just then, Sirius heard a noise outside. He looked out the window and saw a huge, shadowy figure coming down the street. "Hagrid!" he whispered. He knew the big man worked for Dumbledore, and he was coming to collect Harry. But Sirius didn't want to let Harry go. Harry was all he had left of his friends, and he wasn't going to leave him.
"I'm sorry, Hagrid," he whispered, holding Harry close. "But I'm taking him."
Sirius hurried back outside, clutching Harry to his chest. His motorbike roared to life, and before Hagrid could reach the house, Sirius sped away, taking Harry with him. They flew into the night sky, the wind whipping around them. Harry clung tight, and Sirius whispered, "We'll be alright, Harry. I promise."
They were on the run now, but Sirius didn't care. As long as he had Harry, he had a reason to keep going.
That's the prologue! Let me know if you like this simple and straightforward style. If you do, I'll start with Chapter One next, where Harry gets his Hogwarts letter.
