In Circutroplis high school, a young woman with black hair, dressing a pastel blue shirt and red skirt walked out from the establishment after another day of studying, this was Pamela Cranston or how she was being called by her friends and even herself, Pomni. The newest girl in town that had a pretty big secret. Nothing scandalous like others her age would have liked being knocked up after drink when she shouldn't, no, her secret was more important
She was a super hero, well, part of a super hero team would be more accurate as she never did any solo action and she only fought a specific threat and not common crime. She was a part of the Digital Rangers, a group of individuals that protects the world from threats spawned from human hatred that gained life through the internet
If she was being honest, she hated being a part of it and having to get her ass handed to her by monsters on the weekly but it was that or the end of mankind, and she unfortunately couldn't find a replacement since it was their leader that decided that
"Heya pompom" a girl called from behind her as she approached, she was a asian American in a red hoodie and black skirt, having blonde streaks on her hair
"Ahhh! Gangl... I mean, hey Gabrielle" Pomni greeted her friend, who she usually called Gangle since that was her name when they were out fighting
"What are you going to do this Friday? Rags wanted to make a get together, and asked me to see if you were interested, she would have called you herself if-"
"If my phone didn't break because of that darn monster attack" She said in a disgruntled tone as she remembered getting slapped by a black tentacle a few 10 feet into the air and landing on her butt, just to hear something crack, only after the fight ended did she knew that it wasn't her hips that broke but her phone
"Yeah, but are you going? It will be a fun girl's night... If you ignore Kinger" Gangle said, from the ones she participated in in her past, it was always fun. Except when Kinger gets them in trouble, but they usually laugh it off later
"I-" before she could give her a answer, a distinct sound came from their pockets, as Pomni mentally dreaded what was about to happen, in a microsecond they were zapped away from where they were as their bodies glowed and broke down into pixels that traveled to a bright florescent tunnel before reforming in a new area with three other people, and Pomni had to cover her mouth to stop the puke from coming out
"Caine! What the hell! I'm still on my shift!" Said a disgruntled person in an outfit from a local vitamin smoothie shop, having some accessories like piercings and make-up that gave them a punk look. This was Zooble, the sarcastic and perpetually annoyed artist of the group
"Attention my dear rangers! A dastardly Abstraction is occurring in Mendo park!" Their chief and the one responsible for their powers, Caine shouted. He was quite literally a pair of dentures with a tongue and eyes inside, wearing a top hat, he was also pretty big size wise and that made it all the more terrifying when he would come close to stare at one of them
"AAAAH! That's where the bugs are! Especially the local cicada population!" The oldest looking one of the group, a man with dirty blonde hair, little bits of a poorly shaved beard on his face and a scruff appearance screamed as he placed his hands around his head. This was Kinger, the oldest still active member and the guy Pomni hopes she doesn't become
"Exactly! You five have to go stop it immediately!" Caine shouted once again, this time manifesting a gloved hand just to point a finger at them
"Don't worry, we are on it!" Said the brunette with freckles in a little blue pastel dress. That was the leader of the team, Agatha, or how she went by when she was in her ranger uniform, Ragatha.
"I couldn't even get a bath..." Pomni mumbled annoyed as she looked down, as the five were beamed away to the location of the city's park
"Alright everyone, you know what time it is" Ragatha said as everyone took out from their pockets a round device with a open slot to place something inside, each of them took a medal with a image of something embedded on them, Gangle's was two theater mask, a happy and sad one with a ribbon connecting them, Pomni's was a jester's cap, Zooble's were a brush atop a paint tray, Kinger's was a chess piece and Ragatha's was a doll. They placed the coins inside the device and held it in front of them as they shouted "It's morphing time!"
"Hero of theatrics!" Gangle said as the device glowed as it became a long string of ribbon in a glowing red color that began wrapping around her entire body before the glow exploded. Revealing that she was now dressed in armor that seemed like she was wrapped in bandages like a mummy, with a large ribbon on the back of her head, and three small ribbons running down her torso, in her face was a ceramic mask split in the middle, with the right side being an happy expression while the other was sad "Gangle!"
"Hero of arts..." Zooble said annoyed and unamused as the device became a glowing bucket of paint that floated above them and released a torrent of rainbow ink, leaving Zobble covered in so much paint that it left them looking barely humanoid, the bucket then became a brush that zoomed around the apathetic ranger at faster than sound motions. As Zobble emerged from having the paint removed from them in an outfit filled with chaotic shapes and bright colors,with their main body being yellow and their helmet being pink with a black and white striped horn on one side while the other had a teal antler, the visor of her helmet was black "Zobble..."
"Hero of kindness!" Ragatha said as her device turned into a piece of long glowing cloth that had a scissor come in from off screen and cut it into some measurements as that wrapped around Ragatha's body as the scissors were transformed into a doll house that swallowed her whole, it moved in frantic ways as the sounds of cloth being cut, string being stitched and Ragatha doing one or two yelps of pain as if see had cut herself with a needle were emitted from it until it just exploded in a flash of light, revealing Ragatha. Now adorned in a light blue dress with various patches of different tones of blue stitched on it, her arms and legs seemingly covered in the same material, having large black boots that looked like stumps, her face was in a helmet but it had red yarn head on it as well with a silver mouth with a small smile on it, she didn't have a visor, instead having a blue button on one side and a black one similar to a visor, she could see through both. "Ragatha!"
"H-hero of gags" Pomni said scared of what was going to happen this time, her device glowed and flew upwards as she followed it with her vision, it exploded in a bright flash as she shielded her eyes, opening them just to see something big fall atop of her, she screamed as a giant 1 ton weight fell on her, it disappeared in a flash of light. Pomni bounced back up like a spring, now adorned in a new suit that was armored in red and blue colored stripes, with some yellow to separate the joints, Pomni's helmet had a mouth piece in a more white silver color than Ragatha's with a prominent smile on it, her visor was black but featured two glowing eyes in that resembled red and blue peppermints, her helmet also seemed to be fused with a jester's cap with bells at the end "P-pomni... Ugh..."
"... Oh! Hero of games!" Kinger said after having zoned out looking at the horizon, his device became a chess board that appeared under him, slowly going upwards through him as if it was intangible as it left the parts it went through glowing, after going through his head it disappeared and the glow in Kinger's body disappeared as he was now clad in an armor with black and white squares overlaying a deep purple under suit, his helmet resembled a chess king piece "Kinger"
"Now let's find our glitched entity" Ragatha said as the other nodded, it didn't take long to find at as they heard the sound of something loudly chewing as they see a nut cart being raided by a creature the size of a human, with it's body looking like a viscos black material as it was covered in multiple colorful eyes that were looking frantically at the surroundings, this monster had a long tail, snout and ears of a squirrel. Which was a good clue on what had touched the glitched goo, especially considering what it was focusing on the moment as it filled its mouth with nuts
"Gah! These things are never getting any less scary are they?!" Pomni said disgusted and afraid, this was only her fifth of these abstraction monsters she fought and she was still not used to their appearance like the others, she wondered how long it would take for her to become like the others
"Is just another black blob with multiple eyes, let's just finish this" Zooble said as they took out their weapon from their belt, a small paintbrush that after spinning it in their hands, grew and changed shape as it resembled more of a spear, with the brush's head becoming sharp and stiff
"Wait Zooble! It looks like a*scientific name for squirrels*!" Kinger shouted as he pointed at the creature, everyone looked at him confusedly before he explained "It means a squirrel"
"A freaking squirrel? C'mon, we dealt with worse" Zooble said as they went to attack the squirrel with their spear, only for the things cheeks to fill as it then began to fire rapidly at them, they tried spinning their spear to block the attack but as soon as the acorn hit, it exploded. Sending Zobble backwards as they land on the ground
"Of course, it shoots explosive acorns, because why the hell not?" They complained as Gangle helped them up, the others drew out their weapons, the monster responded by growling and starting to shake frantically as black dripping fell from its body and into the ground, quickly turning into human sized minions of pitch black color with the exception of a single multi colored eye on their head, the monster growled as it pointed at the rangers, and it's minions went to attack them and the rangers separated to fight them better
Gangle was surrounded by two monster minions as she pulled out her whip and began to spin it in her hand before going and sending it towards one of the abstract minions, the whip warped around its body tightly, Gangle pulled and with slight effort lifted it from the ground before she spun and and moved her hands as the whip followed her movements, slamming the monster against the other minion, making them explode at contact, Gangle looked at the smoke as the sad part of her mask had its eye glow blue
"I'm so sorry for destroying you, I'm the worst..." Then the smiling part of her mask had its eyes glow yellow "but it's so fun kicking monster butt!"
Zooble was handling three, they kept them at bay with their spear, until getting grabbed from behind by one of the minions, one went to claw them but Zooble reacted first, pulling their legs up as they used the monster as leverage to jump and maneuver free from the one holding them, they landed behind it before giving them a stab through its chest, making it explode. The colorful ranger looked at the remaining minion that looked at them scared, the creature turned back to run away, but that just allowed Zooble to throw their spear and make it go through its head, making it explode as well
Kinger was just looking at the horizon thoughtless, not noticing the creatures approaching him as he stared at a cloud that vaguely reminded him of something, one of the abstracts went to attack him from behind but he turned and slapped it to the ground, looking around
"Was someone there?" He asked himself before shrugging, he noticed his hands and saw his hands and particularly his gauntlets, picking from the knuckles a chess piece of a rook. Just to see a new one appear to replace it
"Oh. How nifty, I'm always losing pieces of my board game" he said as he walked out, the abstracted he made fell was helped up by three others, they were about to attack Kinger but the chess themed ranger threw a rook piece to them that exploded, destroying them as he looked at his hands "A horse! Or is it a pony?" He said while looking at a knight piece
Pomni just stared in fear as she was surrounded by abstract minions from all sides, she clutched the mallet in her hand tightly, trying to muster up some courage. This was not the first fight she's been to, it was her fifth for crying out loud! Why couldn't she just be brave like the others?
"Come on, you can do it! Just... Scream something confidently like on TV!" She affirmed to herself as she looked at the monsters, strengthening her grip on the mallet as she prepared to attack, pointing her weapon at one of the creatures
"Prepare to eat hammer you fields!" She said as bravely as she could, her mallet made a sound as the head transformed to reveal a propulsion system like that of a rocket
"Eh?" She said while tilting her head to the side, the jet engine shot up, and Pomni subconsciously held her hand firm on it, causing her to be pulled along as she tried to plant her feet on the ground, succeeding in doing so but since she was still holding on to the Rocket hammer, she began to spin in circles faster and faster, soon spinning out of control. The monsters minions looked on confused then scared as the armored jester began to spin towards them, in simple and chaotic motion she had taken down about six abstracts at once
"Ugh... I hate my powers..." Pomni said as her mallet's propulsion system stopped, she spun a bit in place. Before placing a hand to her helmet's mouth to cover it instinctively as she felt like she was going to lose her lunch for the third time this day
Ragatha meanwhile was fighting the abstracted squirrel monster, using her shield to block its claw swipes and the explosive acorns as she tried to stab it with her dagger. The abstracted squirrel pushed her back with its tail once she was too close, its cheeks filling up before firing at her, Ragatha used her shield to block the explosions as she moved forward through the explosive barrage with her dagger at hand, the squirrel monster stopped it's fire for a moment as it's cheeks were small and empty.
"Now you're finished!" She said as she threw her shield at the creature's face, stunning it. She leapt into the air as she held her dagger up, slashing it horizontally at the creature, the monster stumbled a bit in place from the gaping wound on its chest, not realizing Ragatha was behind it as she then sank her dagger into the creature's head from behind, the tip of the weapon being visible through the abstracted squirrel open mouth. She kicked it in the back as it fell to the ground, she turned back and walked away a few steps as the monster exploded in a much more violent and bombastic way than its minions
From the explosion, a blob of dark goo evaporated into pixels that flew up into a energy crack, revealing a squirrel that was passed out and most likely dead at that point
"We got rid of the physical body, now to finish it in the digital realm" Ragatha called out to her team as they nodded, they each took out their Morphers and activated them again, pulling out the medal inside and flipped the sides, revealing that they had an animal emblem on it, Pomni's was a sea lion, Zooble's was a bear, Kinger was a lion, Ragatha's was a elephant and Gangle's was a Tiger. They activated the devices as each Morpher made a sound of the animal in the coins
They were soon transported to the digital realm, but each of them was inside a giant mechanical version of the animal of their respective medals. The massive robotic animals turned on as their eyes glowed, moving out of their hangar as they exited the ranger's base of operations, moving through the realm of energy and knowledge as they approached their target. It was the abstracted squirrel monster from before, only now much larger as it seemed to grow as it sucked pure energy with its mouth
"Alright let's attack it from all sides and-"
"Can we just form the Megazord and be done with this already? I have a job to get back to" Zooble said as they rather finish this as quickly as possible before people in the juice bar started to worry about what was taking them so long in the bathroom
"Yeah I would also like to end this sooner, my mom is probably starting to get worried" Pomni added as Ragatha sighed, already guessing that Gangle and Kinger had a similar desire to finish this to return to their normal activities
"Alright, let's combine" Ragatha said as they all inserted their Morphers into the control panel of the mechas. A sound played out as the panels glowed, the mechas each began to move and contort their metal frames as they began forming together, Pomni's and Gangle's mechas became a set of legs, Kinger's and Zooble's became the arms and Ragatha's was the body. The head emerged from the body as the elephant tusks and ears of the body separated and flew to the head as it transformed into a helmet. The now formed Megazord struck a pose as the five rangers were now in the same control area in the head
"Digital Megazord, online and ready to perform!" Gangle and Ragatha said in unison in a practiced manner, Zooble just rolled their eyes and Pomni just looked wondering if they had to shout out this type of stuff every time, wouldn't it get repetitive?
The Megazord rolled up the abstracted squirrel, who upon noticing its presence roared and pounced on the mechanical amalgam, a surprise for the team, they held the creature as it tried to claw the head off, pushing it back before following it up with a heavy left hook
The abstracted squirrel was shaken but didn't lose its ground, replying back with a series of three quick slashes from its claws, sparks flying off the Megazord as the blows made contact. The massive mech stumbled back before responding appropriately, dodging one slash to counter with a blow to the stomach, followed up by a kick to the chin of the monster
The abstracted squirrel fell to the ground, the Megazord moving to stomp on its head, but the monster was quick to stop it by firing explosives from its mouth, forcing the Megazord back as sparks exploded from its armored shell
"Grrh, little bit of a fighter for a wood critter? Pomni, bring out the sword!" Gangle said as she and the rest looked at Pomni, who was caught by surprise before she went and pressed a big red button on her side of the control panel. The Megazord raised it's left hand as electric energy formed on its palm before taking the shape of sword
"Now let's give him hell!" Zooble said as they pulled a lever, the Megazord swung its blade as the abstracted rolled out of the way and got up, it began firing explosives again but the Megazord replied by spinning the sword around at fast speeds, making a barrier to deflect the projectiles as it closed the distance
Once close, it slashed horizontally at the creature, making it bleed sparks as it winched in pain, the Megazord continued with two more slashes, one upwards and one lateral, as the monster was left in a stun as it placed its hands on the glowing wounds on its body that let out sparks
"Time for the final act!" Ragatha said as the others nodded, all pressed their Morphers in the control panel, making a light bulb in the panel glow as the energy sword began charging up
"Sword's overdrive! Closing performance!" They all screamed in unison as the Megazord raised the sword before swinging it down as a wave of energy in a crescent moon shape expelled from it, hitting the abstracted squirrel as it groaned in pain as its body flowed with energy before exploding
"Alright! We did it!" Gangle said, the happy side glowing before it turned off and her sad side took the reigns "but poor thing, it was just a squirrel"
"Whatever, Caine teleport me back. I don't want my manager screaming at me again" Zooble said as they had their wish granted as all of them were teleported away back to base, except for Zooble
"Well done superstars! Today was a good day! And we only lost cat videos from that monster's gorge! That calls for cake!" Caine said as he manifested a pixelated cake in front of them, the rangers just waved it away with awkward smiles, but Kinger went and grabbed a piece and slammed it on his helmet
"It tastes wonderful" the chess themed ranger said, the others questioning if him or them by that matter could taste through their helmets
"Oh, Pomni, did Gangle tell you about the get together?" Ragatha asked as she looked at Pomni, the armored jester perked up anxiously as she turned to meet the gaze of her teammate
"Uh yeah... I'm free Saturday but I'll see if my mom lets me go" Pomni replied as she was very unsure if she should go or not, she would rather spend her free time laying down in bed and sleep but the prospect of going out with her "coworkers" was interesting, she would think about it further back home
"Alright hun, see you around" Ragatha gave her a hand wave as goodbye as she and Gangle teleported away after pressing their Morphers.
Pomni sighed in relief as she pressed her Morpher and was sent back to the city, she looked around and then at her hand watch, she was out for about twenty minutes, not too late, if she made a mad dash she could reach home before her mother blows a fuss, as she began to run her way home
