Chapter 9
Get ready because Rosswall is about to unleash his trump card, and unfortunately for him, Betelgeuse will meet a very unfortunate end to his story. Hehe.
Let the chaos begin!
This chapter also takes place a month after Subaru brought in Luna, the Great Rabbit.
A Month Later...
On the uppermost floor of the capital's outermost barracks was a smoke-filled room. The smoke was so thick that it created a haze that obscured one's vision, so thick that the unprepared choked on the very air they tried to breathe as they entered—from the room emanated laughter as an unruly crowd of guardsmen sat around a table covered in cards, coins, and empty bottles of ale.
This behavior they were exhibiting was certainly not accepted by the standards Lugunican guardsmen were normally held to; it was such a deviation from the expectations they were held to that it could even be considered explicitly forbidden. However, these men were not knights. They were guardsmen; guardsmen were not drawn from the upper crust of society, nor were they considered skillful enough to warrant being uplifted into the nobility to become knights. These men were ordinary common folk who carried a sword solely for the money and nothing more; they held no debt to society, no sense of honor that drove them to diligence. It was this lack of drive that encouraged their slothful behavior, patrolling only enough to pass the rare inspections by the knights. Outside of this, they participated in a gross dereliction of duty, spending their days gambling and drinking their money away. It was these activities that currently consumed the men who formed the main line of defense for Lugunica's capital.
"Hey, Fritz, can you grab us some more bottles? We're running dry here," said the man at the head of the table as he leaned back, hoisting an empty tankard over his head. The compatriot he was speaking to stumbled into the room while doing up his trousers.
"Why can't ya get it yourself, ya lazy fuck?" Slurred back the man just as he sat down.
"As yer captain, I'm ordering ya ta grab some more ale from the storeroom!" The guard captain slammed his hands down on the table, causing some of the coins to roll off the table onto the floor.
"Hey!"
"Watch it!"
"Calm down!"
The other guardsmen shouted at the Captain as he messed up their carefully arranged gambling winnings and losses.
"Okay, Okay, hold yer dang horses. I'll be right back, " shouted the guard as he stood up and began to walk to the basement, where they stashed their excess ale.
The storeroom in the basement was used to store a multitude of things, from the arms and armor they carried during a patrol to guilty pleasures like ale. A small tunnel outside the city was used to smuggle in illicit goods to earn money on the side, money that routinely exceeded their wages.
But it was because of this tunnel that when the guardsmen walked down into the basement, they were greeted not by the normally empty room full of boxes but by a procession of robbed and hooded figures headed by a green-haired man.
"OI! Who the fuck do you think you and yer buddies are to be here? This ain't some fucking playground!" Fritz shouted at the group, only to freeze when the green-haired man lifted his head so their eyes met.
"Witch's Cult Sin Archibishop representing sloth, Beteguese Romanée-Conti." With his introduction, a wide smile crossed the face of the crazed sin archbishop. Fritz stared right into his eyes; he did not even get the chance to scream.
"What the fuck is taking him so damn long…" Grumbled the Captain as he stood up from his chair and began to walk towards the door when it was unexpectedly thrown open.
"There you finally are….." The Captain suddenly stopped speaking when he saw Fritz in the doorway, or more correctly when he saw Fritz's broken and mangled corpse floating in the doorway as blood dripped onto the wooden floorboards with a steady drip sound.
He was just there suspended; his limbs looked like they had been twisted around to the point his joints had broken open, the jagged ends of the bones were poking out of his skin, and his head was twisted 180 degrees from where it should have been, leading to them looking at the back of his head.
As they stood there in a morbid silence, Fritz's neck started to turn; with the snapping of cartilage and the shattering of bone, the tearing of skin and muscle, he now faced him. His face was stuck in an expression of terror; blood poured out of the corners of his mouth, his nostrils, and from behind his eyelids.
Suddenly, his mouth began to open and close, jarringly moving as if he were talking, but the voice speaking was not his own; it was a very crude imitation.
"IT HURTS, IT HURTS CAPTAIN. MAKE THE PAIN STOP. TWISTING, TURNING, BITING, SNAPPING, CRACKING, MAKE IT STOP!" The corpse of Fritz then began to make a sound like it was crying, as its mangled arms rose to its eyes as if wiping away tears, but they achieved nothing more than smearing blood all over its face.
The men at the table were so shocked that they did not even move when Fritz's corpse was suddenly hurled from the doorway into the table they sat around. It slammed into the table with enough force to break it, shatter the few intact bones left in Fritz's body, and cause most of the guardsmen to be knocked to the floor.
As they began to stand up from the floor, a robed man with green hair entered the room. "What a truly, truly, truly, truly mind-bending sight. The fact that the people entrusted with overseeing the safety of the city, the ones trusted to be diligent, have fallen to Sloth." The man then bent over backward and grabbed at his hair in a frenzy, "Such a very, very, very, very entertaining sight! My brain trembles at the idea that those most diligent in the city are too lazy even to keep their safe. It was with your fingers, your hands, your actions that led to your friend's death, and it will be your slothfulness that will be what leads to this entire city becoming lazy of all." The man then had his face break into a big smile, and with an excited and almost happy voice, he finished his sentence, "DEAD!"
"Fuck this crazy, let's get him!"
"Yes, let's end this madman!"
"What he did to Fritz is unforgivable; I'm going to enjoy playing this fucktard!"
The guardsmen grabbed their swords and other assorted weapons and prepared to charge the robbed man when, all of a sudden, they found themselves floating in the air. They felt something wrap itself around them, or more correctly, grab them by the neck and squeeze as it lifted them.
"AAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Screamed one of the guards as his comrades could only watch as he was slowly having his limbs torn off one by one as they all floated helplessly in midair.
"Authority of Sloth, Unseen Hand." Said the green-haired man in what resembled a normal voice as he slowly tore apart the guardsmen until the room was awash with nothing but blood and dismembered corpses.
Betelgeuse then turned to face his procession of cultists who had waited diligently behind him as he had dealt with the guardsmen. Before speaking, he pulled a small black book from his robes, the gospel, which was the symbol of the love bestowed upon him by the Jealous Witch. Every action, every life he takes, every injury he sustains is for her, all of it to show his love and affection for her, all in the hope of receiving the slightest bit of reciprocation.
The gospel made it clear to him what he needed to do next; However, indecipherable to most, it provided him the guidance necessary to ensure that Satella, The Witch of Envy, would once again walk this world free of any bindings or seals. It was this gospel that had instructed him to trust and adhere to the suggestions from the man's letters. With all of this being confirmed once more, Betelgeuse could begin the next chapter of the final act, The Ordeal.
As he began to speak, he began to lead the procession of cultists towards the exit of the guards building, "Today is a day of love, truly about love, familial love, erotic love, generous love, respectful love, pure love, tender love, friendly love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love. Today is the day we can finally repay her for all the love she has granted us and show her the diligence we've been driven to by our love for her. Go forth my fingers, perform what is necessary for the Ordeal with the utmost extent of your loving diligence!" As Betelgeuse finished his sermon, he and the cultists were standing outside the guard hut surrounded by the residents of the city, all completely frozen in shock. As the cultists drew their blades and conjured their mana into fireballs, that shock quickly rose into panic as a cacophony of shrill cries filled the air and as fire and blood began to fill the streets.
Betelgeuse left his fingers to their work as he began his walk towards the square mentioned in the letter, removing the letter from his robes to ensure he was following the gospel's writ down to the exact letter.
Dearest Betelgeuse
It has come to my attention that we now share a common obstacle, someone who is both a hindrance to your Ordeal and my reunion with my sensei. This hindrance is a young man named Natsuki Subaru, who has been chosen as the champion of the Witch of Envy yet has rejected the role.
Betelgeuse did not lift his eyes from the page; he lifted a knight with his unseen hands and smashed him into the wall with enough force to scatter his brains all across the roadway.
Natsuki Subaru bears Satella's love in such abundance that I daresay exceeds even your own, my friend. Yet, he does not even attempt to return it to her; instead, he uses it to spite her in the form of obstructing you and your followers. In all likelihood, he will attempt to save the half-elf that you intend to use as a vessel for Satella's return, and should you not act with the utmost diligence, he will likely succeed.
A crowd of civilians who were trying to squeeze through a narrow archway blocked Betelgeuse's path, so he simply picked up several pieces of burning timber from a nearby house and hurled them into the crowd, killing many and injuring many more as only a few managed to escape through the passageway. As Betelgeuse stepped over their charred corpses, he did not even grant those being burned alive due to being trapped under the timber mercy, for those too slothful to act did not deserve the mercy of death.
I trust you to eliminate this threat, and in return for doing such a favor for me, I will ensure that the half-elf you seek is trapped in the lower market square on the day of your Ordeal. All but one of the city's gates will fail to open, creating chaos that should allow you to achieve your goal, as the majority of the knights and the sword saint will be too busy saving the innocent to stop you.
Betelgeuse began to approach the lower market square, which appeared to be packed with civilians who seemed to be preparing to evacuate through the fire and his cultists. Among them to serve as escorts were only a handful of knights, led by one with purple hair, a force that was no match for his diligence or his love. Behind the knights was his prize, the silver-haired half-elf who would serve as the vessel needed for the completion of the Ordeal.
But I must warn you once more: Beware of Natuki Subaru. He will certainly be your most dangerous opponent should he become involved in this. I wholeheartedly recommend his immediate elimination.
Sincerely, Rosswall L. Mathers
Meanwhile, with the Control Devil.
"And are you sure this information is correct?" Subaru asked Elsa while he looked over the information that the other assassins had given him, with a little help from a pair of Oni in the said mansion.
It had been a month since Subaru brought in Luna, and it suffices to say that things have been entertaining. Luna did struggle a bit when it came to work at first, but after watching the twins do the work around the mansion, the rabbit was able to help the best she could. Granted, she still messes up sometimes.
Felt was also a good 'sister' to Luna, much to the thief's embarrassment due to the rabbit being affectionate with hugging, nuzzling her cheek, and even sleeping next to her in bed, which made Subaru snicker as he also took plenty of pics for some nice blackmail/photo album.
Reinhardt, on the other hand, was forced to go on a mission since the Archbishop of Greed was wreaking havoc in Watergate City, leaving the mansion alone to the Control Devil.
"Correct. Ram is with Emilia as we speak and will keep her safe while we deal with the Sloth's minions." Elsa said, which made Subaru smile back at the Bowel Hunter.
"Excellent. A pawn wouldn't be useful if it were taken out so early before the Dragon Candidates meet with each other." Subaru said with a wide grin as his aura slowly showed itself before handing the papers back to Elsa.
"You and the assassins deal with these ten fingers and assist the civilians while I deal with that delusional Archbishop," Subaru said as he began to straighten his clothes. He wanted to look his best when dealing with the Archbishop.
"Understood, Subaru-sama," Elsa said before vanishing into the shadows. Subaru smiled at this until Vinci appeared in his room and bowed to him.
"And for Felt, the twins, Luna, and others?" Vinci asked before Subaru turned to her and replied.
"Have Felt and the others hide in one of the many rooms while you protect them. I don't want them to get dragged into this battle." Subaru said that he never liked the idea of children getting into battles and war due to him wanting children not to suffer nor be part of the wars that would come since he saw too many children suffer in the war with Devils and Humans, or even children being part of said war, leading to such a mich sadness that the Control Devil felt since he was unable to save so many innocent lives.
"Understood, Subaru-sama," Princi said as she left Subaru, who then walked outside and headed into the chaos while looking at not just the burning buildings but the people as well.
However, just before he could make his next move, an old friend of his appeared in his mind.
{Natsuki Subaru-Kun, now is the time to make your final decision; will you be a hero, or will you leave this city to burn?} The Future Devil's voice echoed through the inside of Subaru's head as he stood looking at the destruction before him.
He saw the entire city burning. It had started as a series of isolated fires springing up all of a sudden, but then it was like the entire city started to scream in pain at once. In sync with these screams, the isolated fires seemed to roar and grow in ferocity as they began to engulf entire buildings at once.
Subaru could see already how large crowds had formed, trying to push their way to safety outside the city but being met with closed gates or, in some cases, cut down and slaughtered in droves by hooded figures. Whatever or whoever had decided to attack this city had decided that they would not take half measures; the entire population of the city would be given a choice: burn to ash or drown in blood. From what he could see, the knights of the city were struggling to deal with the chaos of the crowds and fire, not to mention the hooded figures that looked identical to the cultists he had seen before, who were causing it all to begin with.
They would most likely manage to deal with it in the end, but if a near miracle did not improve the situation, there would be a lot of death and damage.
"Tch. As if you even had to ask an old friend. I don't mind playing the hero if I gain something in return, but like Hell, I'm going to stand by and let these people suffer!" Subaru said, his aura was shown. He looked up at the clouds and held up a hand to create a powerful storm, calling upon the powers he absorbed from the tornado, typhoon, and storm devil.
The sky above Lugunica darkened unnaturally as Subaru's aura pulsed with the chaotic energy of the powers he took from the other Devils. His hand raised, and in response, fierce winds began to whip through the city, twisting smoke and embers into a swirling tempest. Thunder rumbled in the distance, heralding a storm that was not borne of nature but of Subaru's command. The fires that once ravaged the capital were suddenly snuffed out as Subaru raised his hand, commanding the winds to swirl and gather every wisp of flame, smothering the blaze effortlessly.
The very air trembled as the winds picked up debris—wood, stone, shattered glass—and formed a massive, rotating ring high above the capital. The storm clouds darkened further, responding to his will as water droplets coalesced and fused into the vortex, creating a terrifying storm of wind and water.
As the wind howled and the first drops of rain began to fall, Subaru stepped forward into the heart of the burning city. His expression was cold but not devoid of purpose. He had always embraced the role of someone who made difficult decisions, threading the line between heroism and pragmatism, and Today was no different.
Subaru headed to the center and saw the psycho responsible for this chaos.
I truly, truly can't understand how someone so obviously loved could refute that very love. It doesn't make any sense, MY. BRAIN. TREMBLES." Betelgeuse bent over backward, yanking handfuls of his green hair out as he tried to comprehend how someone could reject the Witch's love, the very love he had yearned after for so long until Subaru stopped him.
"Hey! Pedophile!" Subaru shouted, getting the Archbishop of Sloth to look his way. "Sorry to rain on your...whatever it is you're doing, but I'm afraid that Lugunica is closed, so take your 'love' from the Witch and shove it!"
Many of the knights were shocked at the man speaking in such language to the Archbishop, who only seemed surprised before replying to him.
"To think so highly of yourself as to reject her love like that, to have so much pride as to throw insults in the face of the one who gives only love, I truly cannot understand such an idea. We are supposed to repay love with love, yet you threw her love into the dirt. The gospel warned me that you must be eliminated, she warned me that you must be eliminated, yet she adorned you in such love, such intense love." Betelgeuse's whole body froze for a second as if he came to some realization; a big smile broke out across his face as he saw the Jealous Witch's true intent. "MY BRAIN TREMBLES, IT TRULY, TRULY, TRULY TREMBLES! ALL OF THIS WAS MEANT AS A REWARD FOR MY DILIGENCE, LOVE FOR MY LOVE, TO HAVE A BODY SUCH AS THIS, A FINE BODY SMOTHERED IN LOVE TO BE MY NEW VESSEL. IT'S WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, AMAZING, SURPRISING; MY BRAIN WON'T STOP TREMBLING!"
As Betelgeuse was nearly dancing in place in happiness, Subaru suddenly felt something painfully press on his head, exerting such pressure as if it were a foreign object trying to force its way in. He grasped the sides of his head and fell back to his knees as he strained to keep whatever was trying to force its way in out, but he gradually felt his grasp on his body slip away, and with it, this foreign presence entered his mind.
The people were shocked at this until Subaru's body began to regenerate, causing the Archbishop to go on another rant.
"HOW ARE YOU HERE YOU HERETIC? YOU SHOULDN'T EXIST; YOU SHOULD BE DEAD, GONE, BUT YOU'RE HERE IN THE VESSEL THAT IS TO BE MY REWARD FOR MY DILIGENCE?" Betelgeuse tore chunks of green hair, bits of his scalp coming with them and leaking blood onto the non-existent yet present floor.
"Will you just shut the fuck up and just leave this place already? Nobody gives a damn about your love for whoever this bitch you ranting about." Subaru asked as he cracked his neck after. He filly healed up just as Betelgeuse started to laugh at him manically.
"YES, YES I'LL DO JUST THAT, I'LL LEAVE! BUT THEN I'LL TEAR THIS BODY, THIS MOCKERY OF LOVE TO PIECES WITH MY DILIGENCE. I TRULY CANNOT ALLOW SUCH A THREAT TO THE ORDEAL SUCH AS MELANCHOLY TO PERSIST; I MUST ENSURE ONLY LOVE AND DILIGENCE REMAIN FOR HER RETURN." And with that, Betelgeuse instantly vanished.
"Okay then," Subaru muttered under his breath, a smirk playing on his lips. "Let's see how diligent you truly are, pussy."
Suddenly, a burst of wind sent several of the cultists flying, their bodies crashing into nearby buildings. Betelgeuse's eyes widened in surprise before his smile returned, even wider than before. He turned to the source of the disruption, and there he was—Natsuki Subaru, standing with his coat fluttering in the wind, the rain beginning to soak through his clothes.
"NATSUKI SUBARU!" Betelgeuse howled, his body contorting unnaturally as his emotions flared. "You…you, the one who disregards the love of our beloved Witch! You dare to obstruct me again! What kind of DILIGENCE is this!?"
Subaru walked calmly toward him, his voice carrying effortlessly over the roaring winds. "I just don't have the time to listen to your delusions. I could give less care to this Witch's love. In my eyes, you're just obsessed with something and someone you don't understand or know."
Betelgeuse snarled and extended his Unseen Hands, invisible to the normal eye, intending to grab Subaru and tear him apart like he had done to so many before. However, as the hands reached for Subaru, they were met with a wall of force, and the winds around Subaru formed a barrier that deflected the attack.
Subaru smirked. "Not today."
With a sudden motion, Subaru clenched his fist, and the winds around him intensified, whipping into a violent maelstrom. Betelgeuse's Unseen Hands struggled to penetrate the storm, each attempt thwarted by Subaru's command of the winds. It was as if the very air refused to let the Sin Archbishop touch him.
"How cute. Why don't I show you real power?"
"You can see them…..YOU CAN SEE WHAT IS MEANT TO BE UNSEEN TO ALL BUT ME! MY AUTHORITY, THE SYMBOL OF MY DILIGENCE, MY REPRESENTATION OF THE WITCHES LOVE. WHY CAN YOU SEE IT? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY MUST YOU OF ALL PEOPLE, YOU THE HERETIC, BE ABLE TO SEE, TO EXPLOT MY AUTHORITY!" Betelgeuse screamed this as he bit down on his fingers with enough force to draw vast amounts of blood, tearing through the soft tissue all the way down to the bone; he truly looked delusional as he wailed and screamed with a mouthful of his blood.
Subaru ignored the crazed man as he raised his hand again, and the storm surged forward like a tidal wave. Betelgeuse screamed as the winds tore into him, knocking him off his feet. His cultists, already struggling against the knights, were thrown into disarray as the storm ravaged their ranks.
"SUBARUUUU!" Betelgeuse screeched, his body twitching in desperation. He tried to pull himself up, his eyes wild with fury and madness. "You will pay for this! Your Sloth will—"
"You not even worth trying, Betelgeuse," Subaru taunted, his voice casual, dismissive. "I can see every move you make. Just die already."
Betelgeuse, now frantic, propelled himself into the air using his Unseen Hands, thinking he could gain the upper hand by attacking from above. But Subaru was already ahead of him. With a wicked grin, Subaru soared into the sky; his body carried effortlessly by the swirling winds he commanded. The ring of debris and water tightened, encircling Betelgeuse in a growing storm of destruction.
With a snap of Subaru's fingers, the ring closed in on Betelgeuse, swallowing him whole in a maelstrom of crushing debris. Fragments of stone and metal struck the Sin Archbishop with relentless force, battering and torn by the fury of the storm. He screamed in pain and rage, trying to use his Unseen Hands to shield himself, but Subaru's control of the storm was absolute.
As the debris storm weakened Betelgeuse, Subaru unleashed another barrage of lightning strikes, each bolt precise, each one more devastating than the last. Betelgeuse plummeted to the ground, crashing into the earth with enough force to shatter the cobblestones beneath him.
Coughing blood, Betelgeuse struggled to rise, his body broken, his mind reeling. But Subaru descended slowly from the sky, walking toward him with an air of cruel indifference.
"Aw. What's the matter bitch? Where's your lobe for the Witch now? She's certainly not coming to save your worthless being, so be a good dog and play dead." Subaru mocked, his eyes gleaming with sadistic pleasure.
Betelgeuse's maddened eyes burned with fury, and in one final, desperate act, he began to transform. His body twisted and contorted as he screamed in rage, his form warping into something monstrous. His mouth opened wide, revealing sharp, jagged teeth, his eyes filled with madness as his true form—the embodiment of his sin—took over.
"YOU DARE MOCK ME!? ME, THE MOST DILIGENT?! I WILL TEAR YOU APART, YOU WRETCHED DEMON!"
But Subaru was unfazed. He gave a command to the knights below. "Get everyone out of here. Now."
The knights, having witnessed the sheer magnitude of Subaru's power, nodded quickly and scrambled to evacuate the remaining civilians, giving a wide berth to the area where Subaru and Betelgeuse stood.
"WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY MUST IT HAVE BEEN YOU? WHY MUST PRIDE HAVE OPPOSED THE ORDEAL? WHY MUST THE TOKEN OF HER LOVE NOT BE ENOUGH TO STOP YOU? I TRULY, TRULY, TRULY CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART WHEN I FOLLOWED THE GOSPEL TO THE LETTER…." Betelgeuse stood still as he continued to launch attack after attack with the unseen hands, all of which were stopped midair by the authority of melancholy before they could land. His raving madness entirely consumed Betelgeuse's own body as he did not make even the slightest attempt to keep the distance between them.
Subaru, however, wasn't afraid of them, so he raised his hand one final time. The ring of wind and debris above tightened into a colossal vortex, swallowing Betelgeuse whole. With a flick of his wrist, Subaru unleashed the full might of the storm, striking Betelgeuse with relentless force—debris, wind, and lightning combined into an unstoppable onslaught.
The sound of the storm drowned out Betelgeuse's screams of fury and pain, his body battered and broken by Subaru's overwhelming power. As the storm finally began to dissipate, Betelgeuse's form lay in ruins, crumpled and motionless.
"That's why I'm the one who controls Lugunica."
And to add a cherry on top, with a flick of his wrist, the winds wrapped around Betelgeuse, lifting him into the air. The Sin Archbishop thrashed and screamed, his body contorting grotesquely as he tried to free himself, but it was futile. Subaru's control over the storm was absolute.
With a snap of his fingers, the winds compressed around Betelgeuse. The Archbishop's body crumpled under the pressure, bones shattering as the storm tore him apart piece by piece. His final scream was cut short as the winds reduced him to nothing more than blood and dust, scattering his remains across the market square.
As the rain fell harder, extinguishing what was left of the flames that still smoldered in the city, Subaru stood in the center of the devastation—the cultists, dead with no more leader as well. The knights, though battered and exhausted, began to regroup and secure the remaining civilians.
Emilia, who had been watching the entire battle, approached Subaru slowly. Wet from the rain, her silver hair clung to her face. She looked at him with a mixture of relief and caution in her eyes.
"Subaru…," she began, unsure of what to say.
Subaru glanced at her, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then, with a shrug, he turned away, his eyes scanning the wreckage of the city.
"Don't worry, Emilia. I'm fine." He smiled, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "It's good to see you well," Subaru said as he patted Ber's head. Emilia cried tears of joy as she then hugged Subaru, much to Ram's annoyance, until Subaru calmed her down with a mental order.
Normally, in stories, this is the moment when the main protagonist confesses his love to the woman he loves, but the problem is that the main protagonist could care less about the silver-haired half-elf hugging him.
'Ugh. I'll have to burn my clothes if her scent lingers on them after they're washed.' Subaru said in his mind, annoyed at the girl but playing it cool to keep up his act in her eyes, until they separated with Subaru heading to Kadomon and helped fix up his stall, with the man thanking him, as more and more civilians saw this act of kindness.
The hero who saved their homes was now helping rebuild them, despite not needing to be asked to help as the knights and nobles have to most of the time.
"Thanks, kid."
"No problem, old man. After all, a King helps his people, even after the chaos that comes from either battle or war. Plus, who would really help unless their arms were twisted?" Subaru asked, making Kadomon laugh with amusement as Subaru continued to help rebuild the man's home for his family and then looked at the other civilians, saddened at the losses of either loved ones or homes, but Subaru knew he could only help in one area.
"I can't bring the dead back to life, but I can help rebuild your homes and help you however I can," Subaru said as the people looked at him. The sun began to show a pillar of light coming down on him, and the wind was blowing his cape. He was a true king despite not appearing to be a normal person and was a person from beyond the waterfall.
They saw Subaru as not just a king but a Sage sent to guide and help their kingdom flourish.
This was how Subaru Natsuki, the Control Devil, gained the people's hearts without any form of manipulation.
Scene!
Let me know what you think since Subaru will become the King of Lugunica. However, who should he meet next during the Dragon Candidate Gathering?
Priscilla?
Crusch and the White Whale battle?
Or perhaps Anatasia as Julius tries to face a Devil among men.
Ta-Ta for now!
