Chapter 1
I am here to do a rewritten version of the first chapter since it wasn't as good now that I'm rereading it, so I hope this makes up for it.
I hope you all enjoy it.
"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to become a villain."
These are the words that make the multiverse spin with all kinds of possibilities. This version of our hero, Subaru Natsuki, is far more powerful than even the Seven Deadly Sun versions of the 'hero' due to this Subaru never being sent to the world of ReZero and becoming a real Demon all because of Satella opening a portal to Japan but what if instead of Satella dragging Subaru to the world, someone intervenes the Witch of Envy, preventing her from taking Subaru to the ReZero world.
This is the story of a boy who not only ruled Japan but became a true threat that would the land of ReZero fear.
Enter Subaru Natsuki: The Demon King.
Japan.
"I can never get enough of this wonderful scenery." Subaru Natsuki said as he drank some of his wine glass before smiling at the city he had rebuilt in his image after not only claiming the powers of many other Devils but also creating Fiends to assist him to be his eyes and ears to take out any real trouble such as those annoying Demon Hunters.
One wonders how Subaru Natsuki became this way. Well, the answer is that, when he was heading home from a convenience store one night, a strange presence sent shivers down his spine before Subaru headed home to get out of there, but the next day, Subaru felt different in a way.
Subaru Natsuki felt alive and reborn from that strange night as he not only gained the powers of a Devil but also had something inside of him awakened. A power that allowed him to transcend that of normal humans and even the Demon Hunters who hid in the shadows.
Subaru, at first, wasn't sure what to make of this power that he had been given until a Fiend known as the Blood Devil tried to kill him. Subaru was shocked to learn that he fired a chain from his body and controlled her, but what surprised him more was how his body told him to consume her.
That was the day Subaru learned that he could use Shadow magic, which allowed him to absorb the powers of others as well as their memories. At first, Subaru was only able to take the powers of minor Devils such as the Bat Devil, Leech Devil, Fish Devil, Grape Devil, and Knife Devil. Still, when the Hell Devil dragged Subaru into Hell, he learned how to gain much more power, all thanks to the Cosmos Devil and the Future Devil, with whom Subaru enjoyed chatting.
Subaru looked at his left hand and saw how it transformed into a devilish form with multiple eyes over it until Subaru clenched it as the arm turned back to normal.
"The Eternity Devil knows his place thanks to me being able to use magic that not even the Cosmos or Future Devil could see, which is amusing since the Cosmos Devil has unlimited knowledge and the Future Devil can see all kinds of possibilities. I really enjoyed speaking to the two of them when I went to Hell and when I felt like chatting with them." Subaru said as he chuckled while recalling the many conversations he had with the two Devils who didn't seem to mind speaking to Subaru and teaching him how to use his powers, especially when he gained the powers of a new Devil that the Cosmos Devil was interested in to see how Subaru would utilize his new abilities.
Subaru smiled as he heard someone stomping outside of his office in the building. Before the door exploded, Chainsaw Man emerged and roared at him.
"Get ready to die!" Denji shouted as he charged at Subaru, who didn't seem afraid of the Fiend, before Denji's saws sliced through him.
"Oh no. I'm dead." Subaru said in a calm tone before he became a shadows and laughed at Chainsaw Man. Subaru became his normal self behind Denji before Subaru held up a finger gun.
"Bang."
Denji was blasted out of the room and onto the building outside of Subaru's office before Subaru flew towards him with the wings of the Angel Devil he consumed as well, thanks to his magic.
"Well, what are you waiting for? I'm right here." Subaru said as Denji yelled and tried to slice Subaru again, but Subaru decided to defend himself by using the powers of the Katana Devil to clash with the chainsaws.
Denji yelled as he tried to slice Subaru over and over again. Subaru seemed bored as he kept either dodging them or batting the chainsaws away.
"You know I expected more from a Devil that has the power to wipe away a Devil's existence. In a way, we are a bit similar to Denji, or do you prefer Chainsaw Man as your 'superhero name?'" Subaru asked as Denji yelled back at him.
"There's no way in hell I'm like you!" Denji yelled as he tried to kill Subaru, but the boy just kept dodging them before an invisible force of some sort grabbed Denji.
"Gah! W- What the hell are you doing?" Denji yelled as he could feel his arms and legs being held in place by a powerful force until Subaru laughed at him and explained.
"Oh Chainsaw Man. You know, for someone who has so much power, you really aren't the sharpest tool in the shed, are you?" Subaru asked as he then snapped his fingers with a massive portal behind him.
"Spear of Heaven," Subaru said as the spear formed within said portal. He then snapped his fingers once more, and the spear flew and pierced Denji's chest, removing and purifying Pochita as the Chainsaw Devil died from the energy of the spear.
"P-Pochita..." Denji stuttered as he was let go and tried to attack Subaru, but Subaru merely grabbed Denji as he smiled at her.
"I already know that you gained some of the Blood Devil's power from that girl Power. Such a shame when I killed not just her but also the Blood Devil as well." Subaru said that as Denji tried to hit him with his fists, losing Pochita severely limited his stamina and strength. He laughed while dodging the weak punches from Denji.
"Leave Power out of this! I'll kill you bastard!" Denji yelled at Subaru as the boy merely scoffed at the idea.
"Heh. I'd like to see you try. After all, how can you hope to beat me when you've lost the only thing that gave you power?" Subaru asked as Denji growled and tried to hit him again, but this time, Subaru caught the hand and laughed as Denji's lifespan continued to decline even faster.
"Aw. Did I strike a nerve? It doesn't matter. The Chainsaw Devil may have the power to eliminate Devils from existence. Still, I have made an ability for myself to take the powers of not just the Devil's reincarnations but the ones in Hell as well to obtain their full power and boy, truly, was it fun killing them when I absorbed their lives and blood." Subaru said as he smiled and licked his lips before Denji fell on his knees as he tried to hit Subaru's balls.
Subaru, however, prevented that as he kicked Denji's face with his shoe, sending him for a bit until Denji's body slammed into the wall of the building rooftop, which made Subaru laugh at him as Denji tried to reach for his chest and pull the cord but he didn't feel it.
"Heh. Are you still trying to kill me? That won't do you any good since you are already dead. It's been fun, Denji, but I'm afraid playtime is over." Subaru said as he placed his left hand on Denji's head. Denji's screams were heard as his eyes became lifeless before his body collapsed on the rooftop.
"It's such a shame that the former Control Devil manipulated you. You have my sympathies for what you went through, but I had to remove that annoying dog from existence for my dream to come true." Subaru said that he had heard of Denji's life story and truly felt sad for the boy, which made Subaru wish he had met the boy when he had gained his power to remove his debt and prevent him from a life as a Devil Hunter.
"Sadly, life is truly cruel to many people. A boy who was in poverty and forced into the life of a Devil Hunter to pay off a massive debt. I became an outcast because others wanted me to become like my old man. How troublesome. Life really is a struggle for everyone, no matter who you are." Subaru said as he closed Denji's eyes before praying that the boy would be able to live his life in the next one.
Subaru then flew back into his office as he looked at the damage done to his area.
"Guess it's time I clean out this place," Subaru said as he snapped his fingers. The door was reformed back on its hinges while the glass was placed back on the window as the damage done to his office was cleaned up.
"You have to enjoy the wonders of magic and the power that the Devils wield in many forms," Subaru said with a smile as he smiled at his reflection to see a clock inside of his left eye.
Subaru learned that his skills with Shadow Magic were an excellent way for him to learn more about the ability to manipulate time, matter, and space, thanks to a little help from the Eternity and Cosmos Devil.
Subaru then looked at his computer monitors to see many of the Hunters that came sadly fell for his tricks and traps in his base, which wasn't a surprise since Subaru knew that the only one that was a worthy threat was Chainsaw Man; the others were just lambs to a slaughter.
"It never ceases to amuse me how people who took an oath to defend humans are so quick to turn on each other," Subaru said as he looked at one room with four people trying to kill each other as they were trapped in a hallway thanks to Subaru's power with the Eternity Devil.
The four hunters, a group of three men and one woman, were trying to kill a clone that Subaru made with his magic before trapping them in the eternity chamber. In this place, time and space have no meaning, as the four are stuck in a single area for all eternity.
Surprisingly, the three men went insane and tried to kill each other, which resulted in the woman still being somewhat the same before witnessing the three men of her group kill each other with their contract with the Fox Devil.
"Ah. So, the woman comes out on top with the Fox's help. I'll have to consume the Fox Devil when I meet a contractor face-to-face. She'll be a wonderful pet to have as a bodyguard." Subaru said as he turned to where the scaredy-cat Kobeni was. The Violent Fiend was screaming into the Heavens as he became the Violent Devil and tried to destroy the room he was in, which led to Subaru laughing at this scene.
"The Violent Fiend may think he's a peaceful man thanks to the Violent Devil's former reincarnation, but there are many ways to break a person's mind. Cosmos can easily break a person from just a second of her power, and yet there are better ways to break a man, such as implanting a special toxin that makes Fiends surrender their human side and unleash the true Demon inside of them." Subaru said with a smile as the Violent Fiend became the Violent Devil. It roared and killed Kobeni, who couldn't bring herself to kill the former Fiend who was kind to her well-being.
"I-I'm sorry, Galgali," Kobeni said as she died at the hands of her former colleague, which made the Violent Devil's eyes widen as it recognized the tears from her before the Violent Devil roared in rage at itself for killing such a kind soul before the Devil felt something pierce his neck, causing him to collapse on the ground.
"Wonderful work, Princi. The Violent Devil will be a wonderful addition to my collection." Subaru said as he appeared in the room and let his left arm freely transform into a massive maw before it opened up its mouth widely and consumed the Devil whole, making Subaru smile at the taste of it before walking to Princi, who seemed to be passive until Subaru placed a hand on her cheek, making her blush at the touch before rubbing her head in it as an affectionate dog would until Subaru complimented her.
"You did very well, my beautiful girl. Someone has definitely earned herself some steak." Subaru said as Princi clapped her hands in joy and hugged her master in her arms before letting him go after a few minutes.
"Who else is there, Subaru-sama?" Princi asked as she wished to continue serving her master until Subaru replied to her.
"All that's left is Takashi and his little group, who are dealing with my zombie clone on the floor below us. Let's go back to my office and prepare for their arrival." Subaru said as Princi picked him up in her arms and carried him back to his office, where he got off and sat back on his seat.
"Ah. Thank you, Princi. It's truly a shame no one could ever truly understand you since all they saw was a monster when you were anything but one, given how kind and caring you can be when all you want to do is live among humans." Subaru said as Princi smiled at her master's kindness and knew that most humans didn't understand her master's goals. She did since she was amazed by her master's goals to create a world where Demons would be able to roam freely, and humans would be able to live among them.
"Once they are gone, then I can begin working on Japan to turn it into the capital of the world I desire to create. Others would think that just because I'm the Control Devil's reincarnation, I'm not like Makima because, unlike her, I have a true goal and give little care about the Chainsaw Devil." Subaru said as Princi smiled at her master and bowed her head before speaking to her.
"Subaru-sama. I want to ask if you are in pain right now or suffering from a Devil trying to consume you." Prince asked as Subaru smiled at her and shook his head in response.
"Thank you for your concern, Princi, but there is no need for you to be concerned. The Devils I've consumed have already become part of me and have made me into a being far more powerful than even the Darkness Devil, the Falling Devil, and the other members of the Four Horsemen. After all, it was fun killing the embodiment of dark, the somewhat 'immortal' chef of Hell, and the other three sisters of Hell." Subaru said as he smiled at the memories of consuming and facing the deadly demons who were scared of a little dog with a chainsaw that became the heart of a poor, unfortunate soul.
Princi nodded as she crawled behind him and rested his head against her chest. He didn't seem to mind as he continued to do some paperwork. Subaru has enjoyed having Princi as one of his loyal followers in the hope of creating a better world for him and future Demons.
Makima may have said she wanted to create a utopian society. Still, Subaru could tell that all she cared about was feeling emotions for the first time and the Chainsaw Devil, never truly caring about the society she spoke about, which is why Subaru decided to do things his way. Thanks to learning how to utilize his magic with the Cosmos Devil's knowledge in the Devils, Subaru was able to build himself into the being he is today, not as a mere horseman of the apocalypse but a God that would change the world and create a better one for his people.
All that remained in his way was the remaining members of the Devil Hunters, who were just outside his door.
"Hah!" A yell shouted as the doors were blown off its hinges. Takashi Komuro kicked in the door with his comrades behind him before yelling at Subaru. "Hands where I can see them!"
Subaru paid him no mind as he was writing on his paper before Kohta Hirano slammed his hands on the desk, shaking it a bit.
"Hey! It's over. You are done, your way out of your league." Kohta said as Subaru continued writing.
"And create the school district here. Oh, hello, Takashi. Kohta. And others." Subaru said as he finished his writing before looking at the group.
"Oh, hello there, nurse Shizuka. It's a shame you were kicked out of the school due to the Devil Hunters needing more medical attendees because they're idiots who kept dying and making risky deals with Devils without thinking of their lives." Subaru said as Shizuka waved back at him before looking back at Kohta.
"You see, I already knew the six of you would be the last of the surviving Devil Hunters. For you see, thanks to the Future Devil before you showed up here like you are in some superhero manga, I was able to see the possibilities of the battles as well as the possibility of you kicking down my door. Also imported Italian maple, mind you!" Subaru shouted as he then leaned back in his seat.
"But it doesn't matter because, as Kohta said, I'm out of my league, but I got something you guys don't have. I've got money!" Subaru shouted again as five portals appeared around them with different Devils and Fiends coming out of them.
"We are so screwed," Takashi said as Subaru chuckled at them all.
"Oh, you got no idea," Subaru said as he snapped his fingers, which unleashed Hell. Takashi and Kohta used their guns to keep the Devils back, while Rei and Sayako used their swords to try to kill them all. Saya and Shizuka, along with their contracted Devils, were trying to find a path to Subaru, but Subaru didn't seem to care about them as he picked up his pencil and smiled as he spoke.
"Pencil Trident," Subaru said as he threw the pencil. It transformed into a trident before it impaled Saya, who was shocked by the everyday item becoming a deadly weapon until Subaru looked at Shizuka and patted her head before speaking.
"Shizuka Spine Sword," Subaru said as the head of Shizuka left her body before the spine sharpened into becoming a deadly sword that shocked others before Subaru rushed towards Rei and Sayako, clashing with them both while laughing at the carnage happening around him until Subaru sliced off Rei's hands before caving her face in with a punch, which a random Devil then ate.
"Rei!" Takashi yelled as Kohta stopped him.
"It's too late! She's gone! We need to fall back and regroup!" Kohta yelled as he looked at Shizuka's head before Kohta felt his left hand leave his body as Subaru laughed at his reaction.
"Aw. Did you want a kiss from Shizuka before you died?" Subaru asked as Shizuka's head remained dead and impassive, which infuriated Kohta before holding his left hand up in a familiar fashion.
"KON!" Kohta yelled as the Fox Devil emerged, but instead of eating Subaru, it ate Kohta instead, shocking him before his eyes looked to see Subaru's left hand was in a similar shape.
"I was right. The Fox Devil does make a wonderful Devil to have as my bodyguard." Subaru said as he looked at Sayako, defeated as her arms were ripped from her body. Subaru nodded towards the Devils who feasted on her body. Subaru turned to Takashi, who had a look of defeat on his face before Subaru called out to him.
"Yoo-hoo! Are you still in there, or are you dead already?" Subaru asked as Takashi was unresponsive, which made Subaru sigh at the boy's lack of response before heading back to his desk, where Princi had finished cleaning off the blood before letting Subaru sit back in his chair.
The Spider Devil then poured Subaru another glass of the wine he was drinking before he opened up the window and smiled at the view of the night in Japan.
"I can never get enough of this wonderful scenery." Subaru Natsuki said as he drank some of the wine before turning around with his fake smile. "Don't you agree with me, Takashi?"
Subaru Natsuki asked as he stood defiantly before the last group of hunters and defenders who had banded together to thwart his plans for the world. They were determined to stop him, but Subaru's powers had grown formidable, and a sinister grin played on his lips.
"And Japan is just the beginning. Once my empire is established in Japan, then it's onto China, France, Germany, and the rest of the world. A playground for the Demons to run freely as the humans live among us." Subaru said as a voice interrupted his monologue.
"And that's just a plan as crazy as Makima's when she was here," Kishibe said as he walked into the room before Subaru rolled his eyes at him.
"Oh great, the old fart is here. Why are you here? Aren't you late for the stripper party in the red-light district?" Subaru asked as he had grown tired of the old man until Kishibe spoke to him.
"If you do as you intend, then you'll create a literal version of Hell on the world. Surrender or die like the Demon you've become, Subaru Natsuki." Kishibe said as Subaru pondered a bit before replying with a fake smile.
"Well, whatever shall I do about that? Oh wait, I know." Subaru replied as he then held up his left pointer finger at Kishibe.
"Bang."
Kishibe's eyes widened as he felt his body bleed from the gunshot until Subaru spoke again.
"Bang: Auto-fire version," Subaru said as multiple invisible bullets rang through the room. Kishibe's body was littered with multiple gunshot wounds in his torso, legs, arms, and head; even his heart was littered with so many bullets it was no more.
Subaru stopped his attack. He then blew his pointer finger before looking at Takashi standing up, which made Subaru sigh at him.
"And what are you going to do? Bore me to death?" Subaru said as he wasn't intimidated by Takashi before Takashi removed his heart from his chest and glared at Subaru.
"I know I can't defeat you, but at the very least, I can save the world by removing you from this world!" Takashi yelled as the ground trembled; a rift to another dimension cracked open, and Subaru was forcibly drawn into it.
Princ was attached to Subaru as she wrapped her arms and legs around him to protect him from the unknown harm that would come from the attack, but Subaru didn't even seem fazed by this as he chuckled at the boy's attempt.
"So this is your plan? Since you can't kill me, do you think you can just get rid of me? How adorably amusing." Subaru said as Takashi glared at Subaru before he felt the thousands of lives that were the cost of using the Devil's one-time ability, which left him with a sense of grim satisfaction.
But Subaru's reaction was far from what Takashi had anticipated since Subaru's face held no signs of fear or despair. Instead, Subaru welcomed the change with a dark chuckle. "You underestimated me, which will result only in your downfall. If you want to banish me from Japan, fine. You can have Japan. Meanwhile, I'll take on a new world to rebuild in my image." Subaru taunted as the rift sealed itself, leaving Takashi bewildered until his eyes widened as he realized what Subaru meant.
"H-He knew about my contract with the Cosmos Devil?!" Takashi yelled as he realized that the doors to Subaru's base were closed, which raised alarm bells in his head.
"No. No!" Takashi yelled as he coughed out more blood, and a red light turned on before the speakers spoke to him.
{Self Destruction in One Minute. Farewell, Hunter scum. Hahahaha! I hope you enjoy the fireworks.}
Takashi's eyes widened as he realized that Subaru played them as soon as they entered the Demon King's domain. The remaining hunter was left to grapple with the realization that he had only played into Subaru's hands, setting the stage for a new chapter in the Demon King's story, where he could build his kingdom of demons without interference in a world that had never heard of him.
The Demon King is the one who got the last laugh.
Takashi's life flashed before his eyes as his vision was clouded by a bright light and then smoke.
'I'm sorry everyone. I'm a fool.'
Thus, the rest of Japan suffered the result of the explosion as many lives were lost that night, and all people could feel was sadness, anger, fear, and despair, all that fed the remaining Devils that Subaru had left behind to feast upon in the world without any hunters to interfere with them.
Princ was still holding Subaru in her arms. Subaru smiled as he felt the many Devils play in the result of the 'battle' that the Devil Hunters had created thanks to their foolishness, thinking that they could take him down.
"It never ceases to amuse me with the idiocy of humans thinking they can easily defeat a power beyond their comprehension. I'll have to thank Cosmos since she did tell me of Takashi's contract with her."
Subaru said as he continued to fall through the portal; he smiled with a sense of amusement as he looked at his old home being destroyed, thanks to not only the Future Devil's insight about the possibilities but also the Cosmos Devil's knowledge after Subaru had asked her about her contract with Takashi. Also, he had to thank his powers from Bomb Devil to create the bomb he had in place for when Subaru was 'banished' to a new world to bring the lower-ranked Devils he left behind in his old world to enjoy the chaos and misery that the humans would bring after the explosion.
"Thank you, Future Devil. I have to admit that the vision you gave me, as well as your parting gift, was perfect for me." Subaru said as he smirked and recalled the conversations he had with the Future Devil and enjoyed the Devil's sense of humor.
"I can't see the end of your future, but I can tell that when the hunters try to 'banish' you to a new place, it'll be a new playground for you with those people being afraid of you."
"I see. Thank you for the insight. I'll truly miss our chats when I consume you." Subaru said as the Future Devil laughed at him before his eyes appeared.
"I've truly enjoyed our friendship, Subaru Natsuki! Never forget that the Future Rules!" The Future Devil shouted as Subaru consumed him and took his power.
The words of the Future Devil in their last conversation until Subaru consumed were amusing. He enjoyed having conversations with the Future Devil and Cosmos Devil until the portal opened up as Prince and Subaru safely landed on their feet.
Now, in an unfamiliar world, Subaru looked around, retaining his powers from the Devils he collected in his old world before smiling at Princ.
"Look at this Princ. A new world for us to claim as our own. A fresh canvas for me to paint in my image of a beautiful world." Subaru's voice echoed through the unknown land as he was excited about the possibilities that would come in this new world. Subaru then contemplated his next move as Princ stood by his side and kept an eye out for others to dare intrude on her master.
Subaru found himself in an entirely different world, his powers intact and a sinister smile on his face. He watched the people of this new land go about their lives, ignorant of his presence. Subaru's eyes sparkled with curiosity as he pondered aloud,
"Now, who shall I control to reveal the secrets of this new world to me?" Subaru said as he felt a strange presence behind him. He turned around to see Princ holding a little girl in an alleyway.
"Princ. Why are you holding that little girl?" Subaru asked as the Spider Devil turned to him and replied.
"Subaru-sama. This girl saw us and was about to attack you with the dog in her arms. I was eliminating a threat." Princ said as Subaru looked at the girl, who was rather adorable, as well as the massive dog. A grin appeared on his face as a chain appeared behind him and went into the girl's head.
"Now, little girl, what is your name?" Subaru asked as the girl responded.
"My name is Meili."
"Why were you about to attack me, Meili?"
"Because I wanted to see the spider woman in action," Meili said in a dead tone before Subaru nodded.
"Now, what would a sweet girl like yourself want with Princ?"
"It's so I can help Big Sis Elsa kill the woman she was asked to kill."
"Oh? And who is this woman your big sister is hired to kill?"
"Her name is Emilia. She's a half-elf who's a candidate for the royal throne." Meli said as Subaru smiled at the answer and nodded.
"Good, now where is this big sister?"
"At our safe house before she goes at sunset to kill Emilia and any witnesses," Meili said as Subaru smiled at her before patting her head.
"You such a good girl. Now be a good girl and take me to your Big Sister Elsa. A child shouldn't be out alone after all." Subaru said as Meili nodded and led Subaru through the alleyway with Princ behind him. The Demon King was interested in the information from this new word, and now he has a loyal dog that'll be a wonderful Devil due to the power inside of her.
Scene.
Now, Subaru may be a reincarnation of the Control Devil. Still, Subaru was also able to access his magic because of being the Control Devil, which allowed him to meet the Cosmos Devil and Future Devil as he was curious about his magic and if he could not only control but gain their powers as well.
Subaru may be a manipulator, but he also admires and cares for those who are truly loyal to him. He'll enjoy crushing his enemies to pieces but also being with his followers, who are a second family to him.
That is why after Subaru took the powers of the Primal Fear Devils, such as the Darkness Devil, the other three of the Four Horsemen, and the Falling Devil, he was able to become the Demon King.
This title will clear it up since Subaru may seem OP, but he has his weaknesses and will be able to clash with some of the most powerful beings in the world.
These are the two techniques that Subaru made with his Yang Magic to defeat many devils in his world.
Spell: Abyssal Seal
Description: With a mere gesture, Subaru invokes the Abyssal Seal, a potent spell designed to strip any Devil, regardless of their power, of their supernatural abilities. This spell creates an ethereal sigil that envelops the target, severing their connection to the demonic energies that fuel their powers. The Abyssal Seal serves as a formidable equalizer, rendering even the mightiest Devils powerless in the presence of Subaru, the Control Devil.
Spell: Soulforge Absorption
Description: When desiring a power he doesn't have, Subaru wields the Soulforge Absorption, a spell that allows him to consume the essence of defeated Devils. By uttering an incantation and channeling his demonic powers, Subaru absorbs the very souls of his fallen adversaries, gaining not only their abilities but also their memories and experiences.
