Danmachi owner did not right this chapter
The magic axe was in full swing, its inevitable destination coming from the large, hulking form of pure 7-foot black muscle that left its 4 opponents frozen in anticipation. A grey-furred level 6 werewolf, a pair of level 6 amazons and a level 4 half-elf. None who were inside the magical barrier created by the high elf of the Loki Familia could stop the axe from completing its goal, not even the minotaur swinging it. Even if only slightly, none dared blink as it could mean increasing the chance of death. And with an audience of monsters and men, the magic weapon ignited.
A massive spark of lightning erupted from the sharp edge surrounding the weapon, the magic being sent towards its intended targets at a speed that lived up to its name. All 4 adventures only managed to get into a position that they believed would leave them in the least bad condition. For the werewolf, it was a low crouching position, in hopes of dodging under the majority of the attack. The amazons, with the brawling instinct, shielded their bodies and face with a cross of their arms. The half-elf stood sideways, putting the recently acquired spear facing away from the pitch-black monster while using his conjoined swords in front of his body. He didn't fully understand why he did this as he had let his instinct ability take control but he put faith in it and stayed as he was, flexing and slightly flinching at the lightning now hurtling towards him. He was standing in the front of the 4 adventurers, a place he sorely regrets landing in.
"zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt!"
The magic shot threw the air, strands of electricity protruding out from the main ball of lightning. As he was the one standing nearest and in the centre, Nathan took the giant ball of magic head-on, with it colliding with his swords. Some of the other strands of the magic hit the Loki Familia inside the magical barrier, meaning it had already got a 100% hit success. But it didn't stop there. The other strands that had missed now collided with the magical barrier surrounding the battle, and since it couldn't continue on its path, the magic rebounded and started darting all around the area in which the 4 adventurers were standing. They were completely bombarded, all of them being hit several times over. The magic had become so violent, that the onlookers from the barrier couldn't see as with each collision the magic made, whether it was on concrete, the barrier, or flesh, a small explosion was sent off, slowly forming an obscure barrier of black smoke. Not even the keen eyes of the Level 6 prum captain could see what was going on after only 3 seconds of the magic flying around the area.
10 seconds later, the sounds of the magic zapping about everywhere subsided and the smoke started to slowly disappear, fading into the air. Eventually, the view was cleared, and Finn began his observation of the situation. First, he looked at his fellow Loki members to see if they were alright. He immediately saw that all 3 of them were paralyzed, their bodies stuck in awkward positions. Specks of lightning danced and darted across their body. He heard Tiona say that she couldn't move and that she felt tingly, only confirming his previous analyses. His blue eyes then went straight over to the bull monster and to his shock, it stood tall, the grin seemingly not moved off of its face. Finn's mind went into overdrive on what the next move should be. His head turned towards the 16-year-old girl standing a few metres away from him. She looked back and knew what he was about to ask.
As Aiz Wallenstein readied herself to jump down and defend her friends, the final bit of smoke cleared, the largest clump that had covered the middle and largest part of the magical barrier enclosure. She, alongside her captain, remembered that there was still another person in there. Someone a lot weaker than the other 3. She thought that instead of going to attack first, she needed to see what condition the masked boy was in. As he came into view, Aiz noticed that he, like her Familia members, was standing still but he was still in his original position, a similarity that was not shared with the other 3 but with the black minotaur. She also noted that there was no lightning running across his body.
"Aiz, just wait a second."
It seems Finn also noted this and held back Aiz to see what was going to happen next. She wondered why the boy was not suffering like the others, well it seems like he wasn't suffering. As the sword princess continued looking at the half-elf, her eyes became fixated on something, mainly the person's weapon… weapons? The weapon in the first place was of great intrigue to her as it looked like it was two swords joined at the hilt to create another weapon. She distinctly recalls how he fought in the war game, with a twin pair of blades easily taking on the majority of the Apollo Familia forces. However, the most eye-catching part of the swords now answered her thought a second ago. Where as the lightning that covered Bete's, Tiona's and Tione's bodies? Well, instead of dancing around his body, the sparks covered and moved around the blades of the two swords.
Nathan's eyes quickly adjusted to the sun again as the smoke died down. His sensitive ears picked up on the words of the amazon behind him and alongside the sounds of electricity still slightly present behind him, he guessed that the other two were in similar conditions.
'I can still move. I felt the impacts of the magic hit but I can't feel any leftover magic still on my skin. Guess my skill works on magic weapons as well. Good to know, not looking forward to explaining it.'
The crackling that he was hearing in front of him was very close. To the half-elf, this meant that Asterius was standing right in front of him as he had guessed the Bull was hit wiht his own attack as well. But when his vision became fully clear, he noticed that the Bull had no signs of electricity on him. The blue lightning was still right in front of his eyes though and as he followed it, he saw that it was dancing around on his swords.
'Why the hell is this happening?'
Nathan started to quickly examine his weapons and he found something very strange that made his mask covered eyes go wide. Even though his hilt was covered over by black tape, the visible outline of the tree and leaves was being shone through by a small blueish light.
'My swords can… channel other magic? How the hell did I not know this? Has this always been possible?'
The answer to that was that whenever Nathan fought someone, he rarely ever gave them time to activate magic, and if they did he would just dodge it not ever thinking to try and block it with his swords out of the fear they would break.
'Wait… that would mean I can?'
Nathan's thought led to something that would leave even himself shocked at what came next.
"Gift me the power to control the wind around me, so I have the strength to survive another day."
That small chant was just faintly heard by those with good enough hearing but everyone realised that Nathan had activated his wind magic as it now swirled around his body. Asterius remained in his spot, a look of joyous curiosity spread across his face in hopes that whatever was going to happen would be something fun and interesting.
The half-elf then, just like he had done many times before, concentrated his magic into his swords and to his shock, the wind did not remove the magic but instead, a beautiful display of blue lightning and dark green wind joined together, overlapping across both swords. Nathan looked down to see that the bluish lightning that outlined the pattern on his hilts was now joined with glowing a darker green.
'So I can have more than one on the swords as well. I really need to experiment with this.'
"-UUUWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOHHHHH!"
The roar from the black minotaur brought the thought of what Nathan could do with this new revelation to a halt and brought the half-elf's mind back to the fight. Asterius moved his left leg backwards, ready to push off in hopes of starting a fun battle. Nathan in turn readied his duel magic imbued swords into a swinging arc and as Asterius pushed off of the concrete floor, sending rocks and dust into the air, Nathan swung his swords.
A wave of electricity and wind was generated out of almost nowhere. Asterius had predicted something like this but not to this degree. The wave went so high it crashed into the magical barrier still surrounding them, forcing it to bend over, forming a similar shape to that of large waves found in the ocean. The spectators that were watching could only stare at what the combination had created. Asterius had tried to put his axe to block the attack but it seemingly was useless against it and for the first time since its existence, the black minotaur was sent flying, landing harshly against the invisible barrier. The enormous body crashed off the wall and landed face-first on the hard ground. All eyes, having seen the opponent that almost brushed off three level 6s now laying flat on the ground, turned towards the person who led to that result. What they saw was a half-elf standing almost dazed at what just happened. Little did they know he too was just as stunned at the attack he created, having not expected anything like that. Normally his wind attacks from his swords only generated the same size as the length of his blades.
The victory that seemed almost certain by the magnitude of power that people felt from the half-elf's attack was cut horrifyingly short as the minotaur stirred. Only 5 seconds after taking a hit like that head-on, it was getting back to his feet. As it moved its face upwards for the world to see an even more terrifying grin plastered its face, a hungry look now festered in its blood-red eyes. Though it wasn't his fated partner, it had found a fun battle to warm up with. As Asterius stood at his full height of 7 feet, once again towering above the rest, the only noticeable evidence that he had been attacked was a cut that spanned across the middle of his chest. His already black fur hid the burn marks that the monster could slightly feel but at that moment, he couldn't even register them as adrenaline pumped through his muscles once more.
Finn still had his hand stuck out, stopping Aiz from interfering, the only one who had somehow kept his train of thought. He hadn't lost sight of what was still happening unlike the battle junkies of Gareth and Aiz who were still in somewhat awe at the attack and the sturdiness of the monster. Riveria was on the other side, her face filled with worry and confusion. Never had she seen anything like that before. Not only two magic attacks at the same time but the combination also has an increased buff on the attack as well. While everyone was staring between the two, Riveria's jade eyes were firmly placed on the half-elf, and he could feel it. To him, jade eyes always had a different look, one that he could register from the day he was born.
Finn didn't know what was going to happen next but he could see that the other 3 were now beginning to recover from the magic weapon attack and he was considering sending Aiz to help with it. That Bull had just shown its incredible vitality and strength but up against those 4 and someone like the masked half-elf, Finn believed it would be enough. Though Asterius never gave him the chance to make this decision, the Bull immediately charged at the half-elf with ferocious speed, not giving anyone a second to think or act. As the bull gained all the lost ground in a millisecond and then the rest, the only thing the level 4 could manage was throwing the golden spear at the bull. It sailed through the air with tremendous speed but to the normal onlooker's horror, the bull easily deflected the first grade weapon with his battle-axe, sending it spiralling into the wall just below where Finn was standing. The Loki Familia Captain, vice-captain, High executive, Sword princess and everyone watched as the boy could do little more as he bared the full brunt of the charge. Everyone watched as Asterius lowered his head at the final second, dodging under a pathetic attack in comparison, and in one move, he stabbed the half-elf with his remaining horn as revenge for the loss of the other one.
"NATTTTHHHAAAANNNNNN!"
Blood vomited out of Nathan's mouth as his Familia watched on in horror. Hestia's scream pierced through the air but only a few heads turned towards her as they were frozen by what they saw. Asterius continued his movement and flicked the half-elf, sending him flying into the sky. Before Aiz jumped down or Bete reached the Bull, Asterius followed his prey and launched himself into the sky.
Nathan still had his wind magic activated and tried to place an air platform for himself to stand. However, he was spinning too fast to get his bearings. Though he had been dealt worse injuries than just a stab in the gut, he had never been attacked by an enemy this strong and his body was feeling it. Blood was still trickling out of his mouth; his ears were ringing from the sounds of the wind as he was flying through the air. His eyes were watering as he was going at such speed that he couldn't even see. He had no chance of being able to control himself until he eventually slowed down and started to descend again. As he eventually came to this time, he looked up to see that he was just as high as the tower of babel, well that's what it looked like from where he currently was.
"!"
He felt his instinct go off once again that day and as he came to a stop in mid-air, his flying now starting to turn into falling, he was able to turn his body so he was able to see a massive black form rapidly approach. Asterius had calculated his jump perfectly so he and Nathan would fall at the same time. Nathan had almost managed to control his spinning but before he could stop the floor from quickly coming up to his face with his magic, a large black arm stretched out above him, the muscles glistened in the afternoon sun. All the half-elf could manage was to close his eyes in anticipation as the raised arm smashed into his side at full force.
"VVVVBBOOOOOOOOOOOM!"
Nathan gasped in pain as he was sent plummeting towards the earth. He almost heard the sounds of his ribs breaking if it wasn't the wind assaulting his pointy ears and the noise of the sound barrier being shattered. It had taken Nathan 7.5 seconds to reach his maximum altitude but he descended that, with the help of the Xenos, in less than a second.
An audible crack resounded out around the whole of Daedalus street as everyone saw the body smash into the stone pavement that layered the labyrinth. The Hestia Familia had recovered just in time to see their friend's body create a 10m diameter crater. Haruhime covered her mouth in terror and panic. Lili could only squeak out the half-elf's name while Mikoto and Welf stood frozen. A noise could not be heard throughout the streets, even the wolf from the Loki Familia winced at what happened only a few metres in front of where he and the two amazons had now fully recovered from the magic weapon attack. The Loki Familia executives now looked up to see the black form quickly get bigger. Their eyes were tracking it as it eventually slammed into the ground, only a step ahead of where his latest victim now lay.
"URRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Asterius roared in victory as it slammed his fist into his chest in triumph, his ear-splitting grin having not left his face the entire time.
"-Aiz"
"Yes, Finn?"
"Don't bother taking this one alive."
"Understood. Awaken, Tempest!"
And so a fight broke out between the 4 executives of the Loki Familia. It got so intense that only Gareth Landrock and Finn Deimne could follow along. Blood was spilled, hits and blocks that should have been written down for history to read for the end of time were seen here. In the battle, Finn ripped his spear out of the wall below his feet and watched as the sword princess lived up to her name and severed off the arm the Minotaur used to wield the devasting Magical emerald battle-axe. Just before he had dropped down he gave one last order to his vice-captain.
"Go see if you can check on that boy, see if he is alright."
"Lad'll be lucky to 'ave survived that." Gareth chose to add just before he dropped down to help his underlings.
It seemed that the high elf didn't need to be told twice as she dropped down from the roof, her mage robe fluttering in the wind as she did so. She had to take a step out to avoid the battle. That annoyed her as it meant an extra second that was wasted that could have been used to help out the young half-elf. She got even more annoyed as just before she reached the crater, a smoke attack spread out throughout Daedalus street. This was used by a certain black-robed mage to allow the Xenos to escape into the sewer system, and much to the frustration of the Loki Familia, the black minotaur seemed to also use this to escape as well.
The smokescreen eventually cleared and no more fighting was happening, well not in this part of the city as a certain white-haired boy was still chasing after the Vouviere on a rampage. But that wasn't the main focus of the people present as they were now all looking at the crater in the cobblestone. Having already made her way over there, Riveria was the first to look over the massive hole. It didn't go as deep as she had initially thought but that didn't matter right now as her main focus was on the mess of blood, bones and flesh lying motionless at the bottom. She slid down the curved walls of rubble and stone and made her way to the body. The Elf had definitely seen worse but those were situations where the person didn't survive, with only the one in a blue moon managing to do so.
As Riveria began her assessment, the other Loki Familia made their way over to the edge and were now peering down the hole in much the same way she had done.
"How is he, Riveria?" Finn asked. Riveria quickly checked for a pulse on the boy's throat and breathed a sigh of relief.
"He is still alive, somehow," Riveria answered back, whispering the last part to herself. Before another question could be asked, the sound of sandals slapping against the ground ran up to where they were all standing. Riveria, having quickly guessed who it was, continued on with her check over, having already begun chanting healing magic. The others looked up to see the Goddess Hestia practically sprinting over to them, or more specifically Nathan, with her Familia right behind her.
"How is he, I can still feel his blessing but it feels like it is fading somewhat."
'That's not good,' thought everyone who knew what that meant. If a blessing was slowly fading away it meant that the person was dying. Riveria sped up her chanting and from her hands pulsated a calming green light. The light spread across the unconscious boy's body, though no visible signs of progress showed. At the same time, Hestia started to slide down the hole and made her way to her child's side. The sight of his crumpled body brought out a gasp of fear and several tears started to form in her eyes.
Finn, not seeing how there was much else to do but take the boy to Amid, took the opportunity to question the Hestia Familia.
"May I ask you lot a few questions if you wouldn't mind." However, that seemed to be the wrong cause of action as 2 of the people, the smith and supporter turned and gave him a look of resentment and one of disappointment, the two other girls seemingly not even taking notice of the Loki captain, their eyes to busy looking for any signs of life from their friend.
"Now is not the time!" Welf shouted back before joining Hestia in the hole.
"I understand that you are worried about your friend but something major has just happened. As I currently can't question Bell Cranel, I would like to talk to you, his Familia, about why he stopped me from killing that Vouviere."
This had now caught the attention of the rest of the Hestia Familia, even taring away the Goddess' attention from her injured child. The other Loki Familia were now paying attention as well, even the working high elf had her ears open. Haruhime visibly gulped, sweat starting to pour down her forehead. However, it was her fellow level 1 supporter that spoke up.
"Don't you have some dangerous monsters to catch Braver, why are you wasting your time here?"
'Leave us alone!'
Finn Deimne stared at his fellow Prum. Though it was not even noticeable to those who knew him, the young girl could feel the pressure from the pair of blue eyes
"That is what I'm hoping you would help me with, Liliruca Arde."
'Just tell me where they are!'
Lili blinked. In that small time frame, she remained composed and did her best to give back the same look.
"I'm very sorry sir Braver but Lili and everyone else don't know where they have gone nor do we have any knowledge of what had just happened."
'You will not get anything out of me.'
It was lucky for the young Prum girl that the only deity present here was Hestia, as they would have been able to see right through her lie. Though to Finn Deimne, he could see the resolve in his fellow Prum's eyes and he knew that he was not going to get anywhere with her around. But Finn being Braver, he simply came up with the idea that he just had to get Bell Cranel on his own.
"Alright, I understand, I'm very sorry for my rudeness and I apologise for suspecting you."
'I'm on to you, Hestia Familia.'
"Bete, Tiona, Tione. Are you guys alright?"
"Never better."
"Cause I am."
"Aaaa, the captain was worried about me!"
The three adventures voiced their health to the captain in their typical fashion, allowing Finn to give his orders.
"I want you all to start searching for the monsters, especially the irregular minotaur. Aiz you join them."
"Ok"
With that order given, the four young people set off to try and complete their captain's orders.
"Gareth, go find Loki. I'll see you back at the Manor."
"A'ight, see'ya in a bit."
With that, only Finn and Riveria were left of the Loki Familia.
"Elf-chan, what's wrong. Why doesn't it look like your healing is working?"
Back in the crater, something was going wrong. Riveria was currently casting her healing magic yet the half-elf's body was not getting any better. Riveria was getting really worried because by now he should have at least stopped bleeding but the puddle of blood continued to grow.
"What's wrong Riveria?" Finn called from above.
"I-I don't know." The uncommon stutter from the high-elf once again brought the Prum's attention back to the half-elf. Now getting a better look he could fully make out the situation and it caused him to wince.
Lying unconscious was a 15-year-old boy. Blood was pouring out from the hole in his chest but also from the cracks in his skin from where a bone was protruding from his left arm. His nose looked broken as it was pointing in an unnatural direction. His mask had completely shattered, some of the wood splintering into the boy's face, only causing more blood to drip from his face. Though it could not be seen, it was very easy to guess that some, if not all, of his ribs, were damaged in some way. His other arm, though not as bad as the other, was slumped as his shoulder seemed to have dislocated. Further down the boy's body, the damages faded as it seemed his upper body took most of the impact. His clothing seemed not to be too bad but where there were rips, there were cuts and bruises visible.
"Oi, Nine Hells. Why have you stopped healing him?"
Finn looked at the red-headed man who was looking at Riveria, anger and worry clearly evident on his face.
"Something isn't right. There is little point in wasting my mind if it isn't working."
Finn looked back up to observe the rest of the Hestia Familia. The Far-eastern woman was consoling the Fox girl, most likely stopping her from looking. Liliruca was deep in thought but still not moving her eyes away from her injured comrades.
"I thought you said your healing wasn't working?"
"F-forgive me Goddess Hestia but it wasn't."
"Then why has he stopped bleeding then?"
"I… I don't know"
Riveria could only look on as the boy had, like Hestia had pointed out, stopped bleeding, the gaping hole in his stomach now starting to close itself, though a scar was evident.
'Did my healing work after all. No, it should not be working after I got rid of the magic. Just what the hell is going on?'
As Riveria was lost in thought the smallest sign of movement caught her eye. The small fluttering of eyelids began to move.
'No way! Not even a first-tier adventurer would be able to wake up after this much damage.'
However, it seemed the half-elf didn't care what the high elf thought as he slowly opened his eyes. Riveria looked at them closely, as whenever she had seen the boy he always had a mask on, meaning she never saw his eyes. She had wondered why he wore a mask but thought it rude to try and ask about it as it was none of her concern.
As his right eye slightly opened, Riveria managed to make out a green surrounding the pupil. Their eyes met, only briefly and Riveria thought she recognised those eyes that were now looking back at her. Before she could say anything to the boy his mouth moved.
"M…mom?"
The question completely caught her off guard. Yes, she was normally called the mother of the Loki Familia but she never thought she could be mistaken for anyone's else mother. Maybe the boy's mother might have been an elf but as a high elf, she had a very distinct look with her jade hair and jade eyes. She put it down to a delusion and tried to stay professional.
"I'm very sorry but I'm not your mother, you are gravely injured so I must ask you to rest."
No movement came from the boy for a few seconds until he blinked and once again looked at Riveria again. His eyes widened suddenly and he jolted up, a massive wince of pain crossed his face.
"NATHAN!"
Hestia jumped at her now awake child but as she had jumped straight at the boy's very injured chest a grunt of pain along with a nasty grimace came from the boy.
"Goddess, don't jump on him! Do you want him to die" Lili shouted
"OH MY GOD, I'm so sorry Nathan. Are you alright, how much does it hurt, are you going to be alright. Tell me is there anything that we can do to help?"
"G-Goddess?"
"Yes, what is it?"
"…Bell?"
Hestia didn't know how to answer that, especially with Loki's children around.
"Let's not worry about him right now. You are more important right now."
"N-no."
"As far as I know, Bell is not in a worse condition than this. We shall worry about all that later, ok."
As Riveria continued to look at Hestia pester the poor boy with a ton of questions and worry she couldn't help but rethink the reaction that just occurred. She was also perplexed how the first thing he thinks of after living with all that pain he would think of someone else.
'He must have been shocked when he realised he called me his mother. Most elves are quite wary around me and half-elves more so.'
Fortunately for Nathan, Riveria chalked up his reaction to something normal and chose not to think much into it. It seemed the high elf hadn't fully noticed the boy's jade eyes as the dust had filled his eyes. Oh yeah, dust was in his eyes. His chest hurt, a really bad pain was coming from his arms and his head was killing him and the shock and adreniline and finally worn off.
"AAAAAAAAAAAA! OOH FUCK, MMMMMMMMMM! *cough* *cough* *cough*"
The shout of pain startled everyone there. Now everyone was looking at him. Haruhime and Mikoto had turned from the shout of their Goddess and were relieved to see Nathan awake. Welf was sitting back in relief as well but all of the Hestia Familia was shocked by the volume of his voice. He barely raised his voice above normal talking. Because of this, they were not surprised to see the half-elf go into a coughing fit.
"You need to lie back down young man; you are gravely injured."
The sound of the high elf's voice brought everyone back to the reality of what was happening. The reality that had stopped Nathan from coughing. They had almost forgotten the relationship between the two elves and the look in Nathan's eyes showed how incredibly uncomfortable he felt right now.
*cough* "Thank you very much, Nine hells chan…" Hestia said, clearing her throat.
"Nine hells chan?"
"But we can take it from here, thank you."
"Absolutely not! I can not just leave him like that. What kind of healer would I be if I did that.
"Geuggh." Hestia couldn't come up with a reason to get the high elf away from her child but she didn't like seeing Nathan so uncomfortable.
"I'm… *cough* fine"
Riveria turned her head back to the person she currently saw as her patient.
"You are most defiantly not. Just moments ago you were on death's door."
"Yeah, well it isn't the first time and probably won't be the last."
"That does not excuse me for leaving you in this state."
Riveria was getting more and more worked up as it seemed the boy was completely ignoring her, having his face turned away from her. She understood that some were uncomfortable around her but most would either gladly accept her presence or say something stupid like they weren't worthy of her. Bullshit to that, she couldn't give a damn about that.
"H-hey, Welf?"
"Y-yeah?"
"You mind, helping me?"
'THE NERVE OF THIS BOY!'
To say Riveria was not best pleased with having her help not work, be ignored and now being replaced almost made her completely start shouting at the boy. Welf, seeing the blood boil in the woman's face, cautiously made his way over to the half-elf.
"What do you need mate?"
"Fix my shoulder."
"What?"
"Aye?"
"Pardon?"
The three in the pit were startled at what the boy said. They were completely taken back by it and they didn't know what to say.
"I need you to push my shoulder into its socket. Don't worry, after that, I can deal with everything else."
"I'm very sorry but what do you mean by you will deal with everything else."
Nathan once again chose not to answer Riveria as he was confident he couldn't properly talk to her without givng something away.
"I mean, I'll try but I ain't ever done anything like this."
"Don't worry it isn't hard."
"Nathan, why are making it sound like you have done it before and more than once?"
"Don't think about it, Goddess. I have had worse than this anyway.
"WORSE THAN THIS!"
'Probably shouldn't have said that'
"We are having a talk when we get back."
"Another one, but why, we already…"
"!"
"Yes ma'am."
Nathan couldn't fight back at the extremely stern gaze being thrown at his skull from his Goddess, the look from behind wasn't helping much either.
"You ready, Nathan?"
"Yeaaaa….eeer?"
"What?"
"You really haven't done anything like this?"
"Course I ain't, I'm a smith, not a doctor."
"Mr Smith"
"Errrm, yes Nine Hells?"
"I shall take care of it."
Nathan's tried his best to hide his widening eyes. "No, no, no that isn't necessary. You really don't need tooooooooooooooooooooo mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!"
As soon as Nathan tried to push her away again, Riveria didn't bother talking and immediately went in for the kill. A few small cracks were heard and a nice plop when the shoulder went back to its original position.
"WHY THE FUUU…"
"Language mister!"
"UUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM!" Nathan bit his bottom lip as he stared at his Goddess once more in almost disbelief.
"I'll excuse the first one but no more, understood," Hestia said as she pointed her gloved finger at the boy.
"And for "why the FUUU" I did that was because I do not take kindly being disregarded without good reason."
"10/10 doctor, aren't you." Nathan bounced back, earning him something akin to a death glare, one that was normally reserved for a young blonde-haired girl.
"Riveria." The high elf in question turned her eyes up to her captain.
"Come on now, we have stuff to discuss. He seems fine now."
"He most certainly isn't!"
The glare immediately turned to Finn who knew better than to give an order to the elf when she was this mad. Instead, the Prum just shook his head and started walking away towards the Twilight Manor, accepting the fact that Riveria was going to be finished when she wanted to be.
With most of the citizens having returned to their houses or questioning the remaining Loki or Ganesha Familia about the recent incident, the only people remaining were the Hestia Familia, minus Bell, and the vice-captain of the Loki Familia. However, now that the worry for Nathan had somewhat subsided, it changed its course to their captain and the Vouviere.
"I wonder how Master Bell and Weine are?" Haruhime whispered.
"I'm sure they are fine; this is Mister Bell after all." Mikoto tried to comfort her friend.
"Lili believes in Master Bell."
"I hope you are right." Haruhime finished off, her hands clasped in worry.
Back in the pit, Riveria was still trying to help out Nathan though if someone just came upon the scene they would not think that.
"Cheers for that but you really can just leave, I can take it from here."
"How do you plan on doing that then. You only have one working limb and I still want to know why my healing magic didn't work."
"Are you sure it didn't work Nine Hells?"
"I'm sure Mr Crozzo."
Welf flinched at the mention of his family name, especially coming from a high elf but he thought now wasn't the time and place to correct this woman.
"I think I can explain that."
"Why am I not surprised, something new that you just forgot to tell us."
Nathan wanted to shrink into nothing right now. His Goddess was racked with worry and concern and then the person behind him was the last person he wanted near him.
"Don't really want to be giving away secrets of the Falna while someone else is here."
A sigh came from behind the injured boy, one he didn't know if he was glad to hear.
"If that is the case I guess it can't be helped. I am still not going unless I see you are fine though."
Nathan internally cried that his attempt failed and was even seen through.
"Fine, You want to see this."
"See what?" Riveria asked, puzzled.
"Mikoto!"
"Nathan? Yes, what would you like?" Mikoto replied, still peering down from the top of the crater
"I'd recommend covering Haruhime's eyes and stopping her from seeing this."
"Why?" The Fox immediately replied.
"Because it ain't a pretty sight."
"I can deal with it, I promise."
Nathan turned to his Goddess who talked before he could. "I am not budging, you hear me."
Everyone else gave their clarification that they would not turn away from what they were about to witness.
"Fine then, suit yourselves."
Though some would come to regret it.
They watched as Nathan started to slowly swing his arm that had been pushed back in by Riveria, getting a feel for it. He then reached over and grabbed his other arm.
"You should leave that…"
"-CCCRRRRRRRRKKKK, SCCHHLLLPPPPPOPP!"
The noise that interrupted Riveria was so disgusting that it made you want to throw up. It was the sight that actually caused Haruhime to do so. Nathan had grabbed the exposed bone from his left arm and pushed it back into place, hard. He then started to move his arm about, and the sounds of bones cracking and rubbing against each other screeched into everyone's ears. The ones that hadn't turned away saw little pain on Nathan's face and those that hadn't covered their eyes could hear a small grunt when he placed his bone back into place.
Leaving that by his side, Nathan started to pick out the wooden debris in his face, quickly dispatching them and discarding them onto the ground. Small trickles of blood started coming out of the now open wounds. These seemed to not bother Nathan as he then started to slowly straighten out his legs so they were fully straight. After that, he brought his working hand up to his face and in one quick movement. SNAP! Nathan moved his nose back into place.
Everyone then watched as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Before any of them got a chance to ask what he was now doing after being quiet for 10 seconds, what they saw next confined them to silence. They could physically see the cuts on his face stop bleeding and knit themselves back together, though once again a very small, barely visible scar was left in their place. Astounded, Riveria looked down at the boy's legs and saw that where the rips once showed wounds bleeding, only very small scars remained.
"There, you happy now," Nathan asked, looking at Riveria.
"What the hell just happened," Riveria whispered to herself.
"Is there a chance of you leaving without an explanation," Nathan hoped?
"No!" Was the immediate response.
*sigh* " Long story short, I've dealt with pain and injuries a lot so my body has gotten better at dealing with it. I can't really give you much else."
Riveria really wanted to question what kind of life he has lived to be able to heal as quickly as that but ultimately she knew that would be pushing it too far. The others already knew somewhat of his past but this once again reinforced in their mind that he has lived a different life to them, only Lili seemed to be able to somewhat empathise with Nathan, though her pain was more mentally.
An awkward silence followed after Nathan's statement until Riveria stood up and dusted her robe of all the dirt and rubble.
"I should get going. I hope you get better…?" Riveria said, gesturing to the half-elf for a name.
"Uhm, *cough* N-Nathan."
"I hope you get better and I apologise for not being of more help."
"N-no, it's all, I mean it's fine and uhm… yeah."
Riveria gave a small smile at the boy's nervousness, still thinking that it was to do with her being royalty. With a bow and a quick goodbye to the other Hestia Familia, the vice-captain jumped out and followed her captain back to the Twilight Manor. As she thought back on the very strange encounter, one thought kept popping into her head.
'Why couldn't I heal him. He said something to do with his Falna. Does he have a skill that makes him resistant to magic? I have yet to hear of something like that.
Now that Riveria had left, the Hestia Familia deflated in exhaustion and relief.
"This has been a long day, hasn't it?"
"You can say that again Lil'E, damn."
"Nathan?"
"Yeah, Mikoto?"
"Why couldn't Riveria heal you?"
"OH thank you little Mikoto. Don't think you are getting away with this without an explanation."
Nathan resigned himself to his fate and thought of how he was going to explain this.
"You know how I have that Absolute Resistance skill?" A chorus of nods was shared by the others. " Well, that means everything. Ranging from poison to alcohol, to…"
"To healing!" Haruhime said.
"Well not exactly, magic more like." Nathan corrected the renard.
"Wait a min, you are resistant to magic. How the hell does that work?" Welf asked.
"I don't really know why it works but let's say Nine Hells's was to use one of her magic spells out or Bell would use his firebolt at me. It just wouldn't work. It would hit me and have no effect."
"That's… that's kind of ridiculous."
"Yeah, but magic was one of the ways Evilus liked to punish people, alongside other things, so I guess my body slowly started to get resistant to it."
The mention of Evilus made everyone go quiet. Even Nathan gave a quick grimace after realising what he said.
"Sorry. Anyway, even though it is good when facing magical opponents, a side effect as you saw was that healing magic also has no effect on me. As potions also don't work on me because of the resistance, the only way for me to heal is if I force my body to heal, which is what you saw."
"Wait, potions don't work on you? Then why do you carry them when we go dungeon diving?"
"So I can give them to you if I need to." The selfless reason surprised the Familia but it made the Goddess smile.
"As Lili said, it has been a long day. Come on, let's go home and try and see if Bell is alright. I also want a reason about how you channeled that lightning attack but that can wait until we get back."
"Thruthfully I don't know that one myself though I could have a guess."
"You better because no more secrets or anything that is important like that, understood."
"Yes, Goddess."
"Good, then lets go looking for Bell. He most likely has casued some trouble that we need to help him with."
"That works for me." Welf complied, with the 3 girls nodding in agreement.
So the Familia started walking, with Welf helping Hestia out of the pit.
"Eerrrm, hey,"
"What is it Nathan. Hey, why haven't you stood up."
"Just cause I can heal cuts and I have pushed my bone into place, I've still got a ton of broken ribs and my left arm is still useless while my right is still in pain."
Though Nathan had healed all the external injuries, he still had a lot of broken bones and a lot of his energy was robbed from him just so he could sit up, talk and heal himself. He couldn't stand up straight without causing an extreme amount of pain. Nathan was only able to heal bones quickly with his skill in full use
"Oh, sorry. Guess you need help."
"Would be appreciated."
So Welf walked back down and lifted the half-elf up, earning a grunt of pain. Slinging his right arm over his shoulder, in fear of hurting the other one, even more, Welf pulled Nathan out of the crater he had made not too long ago.
With the Familia now all back on the same level of the ground, they started making their way through Daedalus street, following the trail of smoke they assumed was made by their captain. How little they knew how right they were.
"Nathan"
"Yes, Goddess?"
"You should talk to Riveria?"
"I... I really do want to but..."
"Don't worry, in time Nathan, in time. Just try and get better at talking with her first."
"Was it that obvious?"
"Nathan, mate, I love ya but that was terrible."
"Anvilhead is right, you were like a child who was scared to be punished by his mother." Lili said, causing everyone to start laughing.
The laughter brightened the mood. The Familia enjoyed this breif moment to relax as they knew this would not last long with their future being as uncertain as it had ever been.
Hi, yes I'm still alive. I know, I'm just upset as you are but here we are.
The only excuse I have is that I sprained my strong wrist and trying to type with a cast on isn't the most fun thing, so I stopped enjoying writing and what's the point in doing this if I ain't enjoying it.
My other excuse is that while I couldn't do anything I kinda... staretd one piece and I might be 200... and fifty... three episodes in. Yeah I can see why it's liked and I couldnt help my self after the "Help me, luffy" If you know, you know.
Anyway it's good to be back, I also finished off my other quick story so go check that one out, I really like it. I have anotehr one baking in the oven but I needed to get back into this story as this is the one I still want to write the most.
Thank you and sorry to those that ahve waited, I hope that the updates will come a lot more frequent.
With that, I'll see ya next time and peace
