The wind rustled and the small birds chirped. It sounded like music to the pinkette's ears and she didn't want to wake up, especially when the silence was soothing and therapeutic.
Then, as if Fate was against her taking pleasure in laziness, a light hit her eyes from behind her eyelids, making it seem like she was in a blinding red background.
Someone had opened the blinds.
"One more minute, Uncle Rasa." She turned around and mumbled into the bed sheets, enjoying the flowery fragrance that came from it.
There was no answer. Pink eyelashes fluttered before they parted, exposing the shining emeralds that lay underneath.
Sakura sat up and stared outside the ceiling-to-floor window that had been opened, watching the sunrise as it shone with its harmless brightness.
Where's Uncle Rasa? She thought as she kept watching the sun through the window. Her hair was disheveled and her mind felt fuzzy. It took a while, but everything that has happened flooded into her mind.
She lowered her head and raked her fingers through her hair as she remembered. Right, Uncle Rasa's funeral was yesterday.
Then she went down a brief memory lane. She remembered the time he'd come to take her from the orphanage and how she'd given him a hard time while growing up, through middle school and high school and how he'd just normally returned her curious gestures and questions with a smile or a shake of his head, until few years ago when she had to leave for grad school.
She let out a heavy sigh as she looked away from the window. He's pretty much in a better place with mum and dad.
She blinked as she noticed the sting in her tear ducts. Don't cry, Sakura. It wouldn't bring him nor any of them back. He wouldn't be happy with you crying too.
Right.
Today was what? Sunday? She had no lectures today. She spread her arms over the bed, humming at how soft it felt under her hands. That meant more bed... she stopped.
Hmm? Since when was my bed this big? She tilted her head and turned to face the bed properly. Her eyes went wide as she brought her hands to her mouth.
This is a freaking king size bed!
On alert, she looked around, muffled gasps coming out more often the times she noticed how different this room was to her place.
It wasn't only hundred times bigger, it was also hundred times better. Closets and wardrobes lined up side by side by one corner of the room. There was an exquisitely structured reading table and lamp at another corner. The carpet on the ground was that in the shape of a big black wolf. The chandelier on the ceiling was one of old fashion but was uniquely defined. Not to talk of the bed that looked like it was stolen from royalty, with the soft white sheets and cosy duvets. The bedroom was beautiful and highly outlined but it was painted in black, giving it a mysterious yet frightening vibe.
She blinked as she came back to reality. What am I doing in a place like this?
She tried to recall her movements before and after the funeral. She had greeted and thanked the people who'd come, sat before the grave and never stood up until she... blacked out.
She frowned. What happened? Did I somehow drink?
No, that's not it.
Just then, she saw something move before her peripheral vision. She turned to face the thing and saw a tall figure standing before her in the shadows.
Her first instinct was to close her eyes and scream while desperately reaching for anything beside her, but nothing was near her at that moment. She heard a deep voice telling her to calm down but she didn't want to listen.
Someone has kidnapped me from the funeral. Not knowing what else to do, she grabbed the pillows on the bed and held it before her face, watching from it as the figure moved out of the shadows, holding out a cautious hand.
She gasped when the person finally came into the light, and she dropped one pillow. "It's you!"
He didn't know why it sounded like she was accusing him but he remained calm. He had to thread carefully so as not to scare her. "Yes, it is."
"What are you doing here?" She gasped and shifted further into the bed. "Is this your bedroom?" Another gasp. "Did you kidnap me?!"
"No, I did not." He answered firmly.
She stared at him suspiciously. "Then explain how and why I'm here."
He took a step forward. "I..."
"Stay back!" She told him as she moved further into the bed. "Where do you think you're coming to?"
He sighed. "I needed to talk with you. Don't worry, I already told your brother."
Sakura tilted her head in confusion. "Wait, so because you wanted to talk with me, you had to steal me away from home, put me in yours and wake up the next morning to talk to me straightaway without waiting for me to at least clean up or try to run away? And how do I know you really informed any of my siblings."
"You don't, you were asleep while I was talking to him."
"I always thought you were strange."
I... Sasuke bit back a remark as he made his way towards the door and opened it. "I will leave you to attend to your ladies' business. I will be back."
You're the fool. Why didn't you think of it before? His beast taunted him.
Just... shut up! I'm embarrassed as it is.
As the door closed, Sakura wondered. Is he terminator? What's with the 'I'll be back' statement? Then she remembered something else.
"Wait, my... phone."
She searched the whole place with carefulness so as not to disparage his things, but couldn't find it. It wasn't near her or anywhere in the room. She needed it to call her siblings and ask her brothers to make sure 'Sasuke' was actually saying the truth.
She looked towards the door and decided to be courageous. Her phone should be with him.
She crept it open and stared outside only to have her line of sight obstructed. Slowly she looked up and caught sight of reddish orange eyes staring down at her.
Startled, she squeaked and staggered back, trying to find her footing as she stared at the unfamiliar orange haired man before her.
He bowed and held out branded shopping bags, which he'd been holding, towards her. "This is for you Luna, Sasuke sama asked to give it to you." Then he straightened, avoiding eye contact. "He says you should make use of it since he didn't bring some of your belongings along."
Stunned, she collected the bags and looked into them. Everything she needed was there, especially clothes and some underwe... she closed it immediately. Did he really have to... She closed her eyes and let out a shaky breath. "Thank you."
He bowed again. "I'm Jugo. It's a pleasure to serve you, Luna."
"Wait, Luna...?" She was cut off when the door closed. What's with the whole Luna and Sasuke sama thing?
Confused as she was, she proceeded to clean herself up in the bathroom. Few minutes later, she was laying on the bed, with clean clothes on and eyes searching the big bedroom again.
There was a knock on the door and she looked at it. Raising the duvet higher, she answered. "Come in?"
The door opened and Jugo came in. "Excuse me, Luna. I'm here to serve you breakfast." He said as he walked over to the bed and placed a tray of bacons and fried eggs on the stool beside it.
That Luna word again. Sakura opened her mouth to say something but he was gone before she knew it.
Huffing, she looked at the tray beside her. A beautiful aroma oozed from it and invaded her sense of smell but she cautioned herself not to touch it. She didn't know what was put inside and it would be dangerous to even try a bite.
The whole situation was strange to be honest. A man she didn't know from anywhere was calling her 'Luna', was treating her like she was from a noble family or from royalty, calling that revenette, Sasuke sama and no unfortunate event has occurred. What was going on?
Minutes later, she heard another knock at the door and the familiar voice that followed. "Can I come in?"
She sat up and straightened her hair with her hands. "I guess you can, it's your bedroom."
The door opened and he walked in, looking mysterious and devilishly handsome as ever in that black shirt and black trousers he wore. Sakura shook her head to get rid of the thoughts about him. Get a grip, Sakura. He's just handsome, that's all.
He walked over to her, laying eyes on the untouched tray. "You weren't hungry?"
She followed his direction. "You're a stranger and you brought me food. How do you expect me to react to that?"
He nodded, taking the point and sat at the edge of the bed, watching as she drew her body together from under the duvet and regarded him like a hawk.
"Thank you... for the things you brought for me." She averted her gaze. "Though the unde... you know what, nevermind."
"I need to tell you something really important."
Wow, no wasting time. He's straightforward. "You have my undivided attention." She looked at him, noticing a slight, really slight glint in his onyx eyes.
"I am not a human being."
I... Just go with the flow, Sakura, hear what he has to say. "Okay, what are you then?"
Sasuke studied her sceptically but he continued. "I am a Lycan."
"Like a warewolf?!" Her eyes widened as she remembered the books she'd read in the orphanage.
"Not that low."
Oh, he's so lost it. "What then?"
"Lycans are superior to warewolves. We are above them in immortality, abilities and strength."
"Oh, so you're like advanced warewolves." She knew about Lycans since she'd read about them too, but it wouldn't hurt to tease him a little.
He shut his eyes. "No. We're different from warewolves."
I see, he suffers from lycanthropy. "Please, carry on." She bit her lips to keep herself from saying anything that will betray her composure.
"We have a goddess we worship. Her name is Selene. She gives us prosperities, as well as mates, and she gave you to me."
"I'm sorry what?"
"You are my mate."
What? She recalled reading what that meant, but didn't all those things happen in fantasies?
"I am the Alpha of Dark Crescent pack, and you are my mate, the Luna." He said, holding her gaze with unwavering focus.
Luna? Was that why that man... Jugo was addressing me that way? Is he a Lycan too?
Wait, wait, wait. Sakura shook her head and chuckled wryly. It was either he was really crazy or she was going insane. Maybe the funeral was finally taking its toll on her.
Watching her reaction with observant eyes, he decided to continue. He was letting it all out. "There is a world, different from your world, where all kinds of creatures exist. I come from that world, not this."
"So, you're saying that you're from a different world which is entirely filled with all the fictional characters I've read about in books, and that I am your mate?"
He nodded. In anyway she'll be able to understand. "Yes. We have something called a mate bond because of the pairing the goddess made between us."
Sakura straightened. Is he really serious? "And mate bond as in..." She flicked a finger between them and watched as he nodded. Dumbfounded, she flicked the finger again. "...mating?" He nodded again and her face went pale. She laughed. "You are so funny. Can I have my phone now?"
Sasuke narrowed his eyes at her. "I can prove it to you."
"What? Are you going to transform into a wolf or something?" She rolled her eyes and laughed some more.
"Not a wolf, a beast."
"So we're doing beauty and the beast now?" When she saw his gaze intensifying, the smile dropped off her face. "Oh, you're serious."
Without saying a word, he got to his feet, walked to the centre of the room and crouched on the carpet.
She watched with a horrified stricken face. Is he really going to... Her thoughts trailed off when she heard aggravating bone cracks, followed by dislocation of joints and limbs and sounds of flesh being punctured by bones.
Her heartbeat sped faster and thumped loudly in her chest as she stared at what stood before her now.
He was no longer a human, he was a gigantic warewolf. His paw was bigger and larger than two of her heads put together. If she stood beside him, her head would only reach his hind limbs. His fur was dark and magnificent and it stood out with pride. His snout and ears were black but it looked menacing. His eyes were pitch black, the sclera couldn't even be seen. The way he stood proud and stared down at her was majestic but it was also terrifying.
Sakura's breath caught in her throat as she continued to stare at the overwhelming figure before her. Her body shook and all the warmth disappeared .
He... he turned into... a... a... there's a... he is...
Suddenly a loud, deafening tone reverberated the room, resounding even through the walls. Then it stopped and there was dead calm. She didn't think she could scream that high too, but right now, as she stared at the creature before her, she couldn't help but feel like a helpless prey.
He was about to approach her when she got up from the bed, her face pale and devoid of life.
"I'm seeing things, that's it." Sakura repeated to herself as she took tentative steps towards him. "I've finally lost it. It's me who's going crazy not him." She stood before him and laughed. Am I insane?
Sasuke's beast frowned upon seeing the emotionless look on her face and took a step towards her, only to stop when she let out these words.
"It moved." Then her eyes rolled backwards and she fainted.
The beast moved quick and caught her in his fur before she could hit the ground, securing her there.
Should we have shown her? His beast questioned.
She'll get over it. She is my mate and this is her fate.
They couldn't fully trust her but Sasuke was going to throw caution to the wind for now.
He had shapeshifted back to his human form, had put her in the bed and was now changing his shirt when she suddenly shot up from the bed like a Frankenstein and started panting.
He looked at her, watching as she mumbled something.
"He... he... a wolf... a big gigantic wolf..."
"It's not a wolf." He corrected, moving towards the bed. "It's my lycan form, and it's not my final form. The royal blood has two forms."
She turned her head sharply and looked at him. "You!"
He raised his eyebrows questioningly. "Me?"
She chuckled, running her hand through her hair. "I had the craziest dream. You were there and you turned into this really big wolf. It was terrifying. I can still hear my heart beat. I was also in this..." She stopped as she looked around. Then everything came back and she realised. "It wasn't a dream."
"Sakura..."
"Don't." She got out of the bed, staring at him as she moved around him, looking horrified.
It displeased him to see that his mate was frightened. He could take pleasure in watching offenders and enemies cower before him and die but not his mate. It left a bitter taste in his tongue. "I can't hurt you."
She shook her head, trying to calm her pounding heart. "You're a Lycan. That's so much worse than a wolf." Worse than the voices in my head. He can kill me and no one will find out.
She finally understood but at the expense of her being terrified of him. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would've done so already. I had all the openings but I didn't."
She stared at him for awhile before looking away. "Can I please have my phone back?" Her legs felt like jelly and her heart ached. Her breathing was shallow. She wanted to get out of here.
He sighed, bringing out the phone from his pocket and handing it over to her. She stretched on her tip toes, took it from him and walked with her back towards the door. "T...thank you." Then she opened the door.
He stood up frowning. "What are you doing?"
"No, actually...this is for you. Please, can you ex... excuse me?" She stammered.
He sighed again and nodded, walking past her and ignoring how she moved away from him.
When the door closed, he heard hushed sounds coming from behind but decided to dismiss it as he walked down the lengthy stairs to meet Naruto and Shikamaru in the living room.
When they saw him, Naruto was first to speak while Shikamaru watched attentively. "How did it go?"
Sasuke closed his eyes as he plopped onto a couch and rubbed his temples. "She wants to flee, and I'm sure she's going to use the window as an escape route. Follow her and make sure she escapes safely."
"You're going to let her escape? What if she tells the other humans?
"I didn't get to tell her everything about us. That would be for later when she recovers from what she has seen."
"Hai" Shikamaru and Naruto chorused before moving out.
Sasuke turned to the other person in the room beside him. "What do you have on Shikai Kyuuseki?"
"He is still in the university but his movements has reduced greatly. He usually has his lone time under a shade at the back of the campus."
"Then we'll pay him a visit. You'll have to take anyone who's in that part away from there."
"Hai, Sasuke sama."
"You idle away, Lilith." A slurpy but sleek voice came from behind an opened door, directed at a woman who was sitting on piles of skulls and bones.
"Ever heard of knocking, Mammon?" The woman's voice was filled with leer and seduction. Amusement danced in her eyes as she saw one of the deadly sins, Greed, walking over to her.
"It's Orochimaru to you, vile beast." The Sin regarded her distastefully.
"Getting cocky now, are we?" She laughed. "What's a little pleasure in admiring yourself in the reflection of these precious skulls?"
"You waste time on rubbish while the sacrifice roam free?"
Lilith groaned and rolled her eyes, getting up from the piles and reaching for her long, dark staff beside her. "Alright, I'll go play with her life once more, you don't need get all whiny. You're sounding like Lucifer."
He shot her a glare. "If I were him, I would cut you to smithereens and make you suffer under the microscope of my might."
She narrowed her eyes as she stopped infront of him, matching his intensity. "Do not forget I am the queen of..."
"...wasted and under developed henchmen, yes I know."
She clenched her hands but smiled. "I'll try to get rid of the girl but you know that I can't do much. She has a guardian."
"I am aware. If not for that obnoxious fool, we would've finished her long ago along with her parents and in that orphanage."
"Yeah, yeah, cool your tongue tails and go quench your hunger." She said as she walked past him. "Not that it matters anyways because you're always in need of something." She added, shaking her head.
"Perform your work effectively before you yammer stupidly."
The cheerfulness went away from her face and she narrowed her eyes as she opened the door. "I will make you pay for that disrespect once I'm done with the girl."
"Wishful thinking, little girl. It never gets you anywhere."
