Then his canines elongated.
There was calm. Deep calm. It was unsettling. Jugo tilted his head to the side, giving a side look at the door.
He raised his hand and knocked on it. There was no answer. He knocked again. Still quiet. He placed his hand on the knob and paused. The last time he knocked, the Luna didn't answer, and when he tried opening it, she had reprimanded him irritatedly. He didn't want to think the silence was her sleeping peacefully which he goes ahead to ruin, putting himself at risk of being in trouble. Scratch the fact that the Luna's mate was a menacing danger in a being form, the Luna herself was a no nonsense, fierce and tough lady, he didn't want to get on her bad side.
But still. He pulled down the knob and opened it. There was something apprehensive about the silence. He looked at the bed and saw that she was asleep and had covered herself up. He sighed in relief, then frowned. He should check to make sure.
He walked into the room slowly. This was treason, entering into your Alpha's room especially when his mate was in bed, but he'd been given a job to do and he was to accomplish it to his last sweat. When he got to the edge of the bed, he reached out a hand, swallowing nervously, before tapping her.
He froze.
It was too soft.
Anxious and panicky, he tore the duvet off the sleeping figure, that was if the sleeping figure happened to be jumbles of clothes and pillows laying underneath.
His eye widened and his heartbeat increased. His eyes went to the window. It was closed, but the blinds were up. Did she climb down?! That's crazy.
He ran out of the room, hurriedly making it down the stairs and to the basement door behind the lounge. On his way, he met Shikamaru and Naruto. His blood went cold and he froze.
Shikamaru frowned questioningly and Naruto walked up to him. "Jugo why..."
He cut the Beta off unintentionally, trying to speak. "There's..."
And that's when they heard it. A loud agonising scream. It reverberated the whole house, as if inviting it to its painful ordeal, and in a distance, birds could be heard taking off from trees and cawing as they fled.
One horrified look was all they shared, and the next minute they were opening the door, rushing down the stony stairs and jumping over the steps.
What greeted their eyes when they got to the cell's entrance was mortifying. The Alpha seemed to have come back to his human self, but he was on the ground and within his embrace was his unconscious mate, bleeding from the neck and her white gown turned red, bloody all over. His hand was on her back and her head was on his chest. His head was lowered, casting a dark hood over his face.
"Sa... Sasuke." Naruto's voice cracked as he glanced at Sakura. Her heartbeat was faint. It was like as if they could all hear it. "What did you do?"
