Chapter 2: The Entrance Exam
The day had finally arrived. Only a week after they had come to Japan, the Kaminari Quadruplets were entering U.A. High to perform the Entrance Exam. All four of them had trained with their Quirks almost their entire lives, training with their veteran Hero parents and Grandmother to learn about their powers and how best to use them. Mysa had a smile on her face as she walked through the entrance gate, while Josuke, Kaoru, and Hana were a little more serious. Josuke looked nervous as they entered the room where they would perform the written exam. "I should have studied more…" he groaned as he sat down. "Focus, JoJo," Hana told him, "We need to stay calm. Remember, like Mom said, breathe." Josuke breathed deeply and focused while the other quadruplets breathed as well.
Hana was also worried, thinking about how she would keep her Electrification Quirk under control. She was better than her Dad, but she still needed to focus. From what her parents said, the battle portion of the Exam would be total chaos. Kaoru was completely focused. He would be at a disadvantage because his Somnambulist Quirk didn't work on robots, however, he had trained the hardest in the martial arts out of all of his siblings. Their Mom had taught them her style of Shaolin Kempo Karate, and he had practiced the most diligently of the four Kaminari siblings, and he had also taken Judo lessons since he was seven. He knew all about how to break a person or robot with his bare hands. He hoped it would be enough.
And Mysa was the most confident of the four of them. Why shouldn't she be? She was the only one of them with two Quirks, she could blast robots with electricity or rip them apart as a werewolf. She could even use both her Quirks at once, even if in her werewolf form it made her fur stick out. She had nothing she had to worry about, she was the strongest of her siblings, guaranteed. The Exam would be a piece of cake for her.
Suddenly, the lights went off except for the lights on a stage. Suddenly, a pink and blue blur slid between the rows of students, before it finally stopped on top of the stage. "HEEEYYYYYY! WHAT'S UP GUYS!?" bellowed a pink woman with yellow horns on her head and yellow eyes with black sclera. Many of the students cheered, "PINKY!" The Acid Hero Pinky made a V for Victory sign and said, "Alright guys, I'm here to tell ya how this Exam is going down! So, listen up!" The screen behind her then showed different designs of robots. "First off is the written exam, to make sure that you got the brains to be a Hero," she explained, "And after that, is the Practical Exam, to see if you got the brawn of a Hero!"
"In the Practical Exam you'll be fighting against a bunch of robots for points. The stronger the robots, the more points they're worth! Weak ones are worth one point, while the strongest ones are worth three points each. You'll be able to tell from the numbers on their armor. We also got a special surprise for you guys, so make sure to stay on your toes! Only the top scores are going to be able to enter into the Hero Course! So make sure that you give it your all!" Once this was explained, Pinky left the stage as the written exams were handed out.
The Kaminari Quadruplets had all inherited much from their Dad, but not his brains. They had been raised to work their minds hard and to study, at least an hour a day during school. They were used to working their brains hard, and it showed with how quickly they were able to finish the written exam. Once he was done, Kaoru looked around and figured that about half of the other examinees were still working, while he and his siblings were already done. "That wasn't as hard as I was afraid it would be," Kaoru whispered. All of the Kaminari Quadruplets had inherited their Mom's wolf ears and tail, and they all had good hearing as a result, though only Josuke and Mysa could be said to have hearing as strong as a wolf's.
Kaoru took the time to practice his deep breathing and calm himself down. He had to stay focused, after the Written Exam was the Practical Exam, that would be when their mettle would be truly tested. All too soon it seemed, the last examinee finished their Exam and Pinky appeared onstage again. "Alright everyone, the locker rooms where you can change are on my right for males and left for females. Get changed and then get ready for the fight of your lives!"
Everyone filed into the appropriate lockers and got dressed. Kaoru felt a number of eyes on him, not just because he was one of the larger boys there, but also because of the fact that he was wearing a suit that completely covered his body. "Isn't that hot?" one boy with green hair and blonde highlights asked him. "My Quirk makes my body release knockout gas. If I took this off, almost everyone here would be knocked out," Kaoru explained. "Whoa, sounds like a good Quirk against people," the boy said, "But it won't help you against robots." Kaoru nodded, "That's why I trained these," and then flexed his arms, showing off his well-built muscles. The boy nodded, "Alright, good luck, killer," and then they left the locker room.
Meanwhile, in the girls' locker room, Hana knew she was getting a lot of looks from the other girls. Envious looks especially. Hana and Mysa had chosen to wear matching outfits, sports bras, sweatpants, and sneakers, yellow for Hana and purple for Mysa. Both of the Kaminari sisters were athletically built due to training with their Mom, but Hana was the more defined one; she had managed to train her abs into a six pack and her biceps were just noticeably bigger. "Sheesh, how many sit-ups do you gotta do to get that shredded?" one girl said aloud, she had dark blue skin with red eyes and hair. "A lot," Hana told her. Once all the girls were dressed, they headed out of the lockers.
All the examinees were led to busses that drove them to the area of the Practical Exam. They were soon outside a massive barracks and all of them went inside. The doors to the barracks closed and lights turned on to show a life-size mockup of a city inside of it. Josuke went to Kaoru and asked, "You want my help, bro?" Kaoru shook his head, "If I want to make it, I need to do this myself." Josuke nodded and used his Quirk to transform, violet fur covered his body as his teeth turned into fangs and his nails turned into two-inch long claws, and Mysa did the same, only her fur was blonde and violet and looked like the usual coat for a black and tan coated dog. Other students transformed as well, some into animals, some into monsters, a few into various things like rock or metal. "Here they come!" Josuke yelled as he heard the robots.
The robots came in blasting. Those who were tougher or faster immediately charged into the fray, while those that could fly took to the air while those whose Quirks weren't as strong lagged behind the attackers. Josuke, Mysa, and Kaoru were among those that charged at the robots, while Hana hung back and backed up her siblings with blasts of electricity. By the time the others reached the robots, Hana had already destroyed 2 Three Pointers and 3 One Pointers. Kaoru grabbed the arm of a One Pointer and put it into a joint lock before he used his momentum to rip it off. He knocked out the robots head and continued to use its arm as a club against more robots. Josuke relied on his werewolf form's claws to slice away at robotic attackers, while Mysa did the same and occasionally blasted robots further away with electricity.
Other examinees seeing the Kaminari siblings tearing their way through robots were inspired by their example to fight harder. Lasers, rocks, bubbles, water, fire, lightning and explosions filled the air as the fighting dragged on, but many examinees were also knocked out by the robots as well. After a while, Mysa turned to Kaoru and asked, "Any idea what your score is?" Kaoru grabbed a piece of rubble and tossed it at a robot's head, shutting it off before he answered, "I think my score is in the sixties, hard to keep track!" Josuke responded, "Not a clue!" Hana had caught up to her siblings and blasted a Two Pointer, "I think that makes my score 71!" Mysa laughed and blasted two Three Pointers with her own lightning, "Mine's 82!"
Just then, they heard an alarm going off, and the ground shook. "Earthquake!" one examinee yelled, only for Mysa to point up, "Worse! Look!" Everyone looked where she was pointing and saw a gigantic robot appear, towering over all the buildings in the barracks. "RRRUUUUUUNNNNNNN!" someone screamed, and many people started running. Kaoru then looked and saw some of the examinees couldn't run away from the giant robot, they were either injured or paralyzed from lasers; three people were stuck under some rubble. "Guys! We gotta help them!" Kaoru said and pointed them out. "Let's go!" Hana agreed, and the Kaminari siblings ran in the direction of the giant robot to get to the wounded examinees.
Josuke and Mysa used the superhuman strength of their werewolf forms to move the rubble of those trapped, while Hana and Kaoru picked up those too injured to move by themselves. "Let's go! GO GO GO!" Mysa yelled as the giant robot moved closer to them. The four of them were all helping people as they ran away from the giant robot, but not one of them considered abandoning their fellow examinees. Heroism was in their blood.
After several minutes that felt like several centuries, another alarm sounded. "And that's the end of the Practical Exam!" the voice of Pinky sounded from speakers all around the barracks. "Please stay where you're at while the Nurses come to examine you. If anyone needs healing, they'll fix you right up!" Three women in nurse's outfits arrived, the women looked like identical Triplets with bright violet eyes and maroon colored hair. They went around healing those who needed healing, and the Kaminari Quadruplets waited with the examinees they helped to make sure that they would be alright. "Hey," one said to Kaoru as he was healed. He looked like a hairless boy with pure white skin and black eyes, "Thanks, for coming back for me."
"It's what Heroes do," Kaoru shrugged, and soon they all left the barracks. The tests were over, now they had to see if they had done good enough to get into U.A.
