This is kind of a continuation of the "first" in the last chapter, but it's also moving the plot forward for next chapter... the chapter we've all been waiting for...
Olivia hung up her phone and grumbled. "Trevor," she whined. "Can you do me a favor and watch Noah for an hour, tops? They need me at work for something quickly that they can't do over the phone or come over here with the file."
Trevor smiled at her. "Of course I can."
Olivia rubbed the back of her neck. "I just feel bad asking you. You're my boyfriend, not my babysitter."
Trevor wrapped his arms around her. "I don't mind watching him. Go save the world."
Olivia smiled gently. "Thank you." She kissed him quickly got up off the couch and walked into the bedroom, dressed quickly in work clothes. She put on a little makeup and then walked back into the bedroom, putting on her badge and gun. She slipped into her shoes and then walked out to the living room. "Let me just say goodbye to Noah and I'll be out of here." She walked over to his door and knocked.
Noah heard the knock and looked up from his book. "Come in!"
Olivia walked in and sat next to him on his bed. "Hello, my love." She kissed his forehead. "Work called me in for something quick, so I have to run to the station, but I'll be back soon, and Trevor is going to stay with you, okay?"
Noah nodded. "Okay, be careful mom."
Olivia smiled. "I will be," she whispered and stroked his hair. "You be good for Trevor, and help him out if he asks okay?"
Noah nodded. "I will. I love you mom."
She kissed his forehead again. "I love you too, sweet boy." She got up and walked back out to the living room to say goodbye to Trevor. She walked over to him and ran her hands over his chest. "Thank you for watching him. I told him to help you if you asked, and he's good about helping. I'll be back shortly. I'll pick up dinner if you want," she smiled.
Trevor held her hips. "Dinner sounds great."
Olivia smiled and wrapped her arms around him. "Think about what you two want, and I'll pick it up on my way home." She kissed him soundly on his lips. "Bye, baby," she whispered grabbed her keys, and left.
Trevor watched her leave and he smiled. He walked over to Noah's door and knocked, when he heard Noah invite him in he opened the door. "Hey Noah, mom just left."
Noah looked up at him. "Okay."
Trevor smiled a bit. "If you need anything or want to do something I'll be in the living room." It was slightly awkward without Olivia there at all, and without Trevor doing anything for Noah, but he was 11, and pretty independent when it came to entertaining himself.
Noah smiled. "Thanks, Trevor," he said gently. Noah would admit too, that it was a little awkward without his mom or without Trevor doing anything for him. It was the first time he was truly alone with his mother's beau. He figured he could talk to Trevor, maybe play cards with him, but he wanted to finish the chapter he was reading first.
Meanwhile, at the 16th precinct, Olivia had just walked in quickly. "Okay, what exactly did you need me for that couldn't be done over the phone or brought to my apartment?" She asked, slightly annoyed.
Fun looked at her, understanding her annoyance. "Sorry, Liv. The guy in interrogation says he'll only talk to the person in charge or he's walking. We didn't have enough for an arrest and have nothing to hold him on, but he's our main suspect."
Olivia sighed. She put her purse down and crossed her arms. "Catch me up. Quickly. I want to get back to Noah ASAP."
Back at the apartment Noah walked out into the living room and sat on the other side of the couch from Trevor. "So… you like my mom?"
Trevor muted the TV. "I do, very much."
Noah nodded. "Do you love her?"
Trevor opened his mouth and then closed it again. "Noah, it's complicated."
Noah looked at him. "How is it complicated?"
Trevor nodded. "I guess it's not. It's just… we haven't said it to each other yet and I think she should hear it from me before I tell anyone else I'm madly in love with her." He rubbed the back of her neck. "Except now I just told you."
Noah smiled. "I won't say anything. You make her happy, you know."
Trevor smiled. "She makes me happy too. Noah, I've known your mom for quite some time now. Many years. And I've wanted to date her, to make her happy, for at least half of that time. She amazes me. She always has. Even when she didn't like me very much."
Noah furrowed his brow. "Why didn't she like you."
Trevor sighed. "I used to defend some really bad guys as my job, I even defended your mom once. And I think that softened her to me a little bit, and then when I started representing your best interests that softened her to me, and I stopped defending the really bad guys, I changed the course of my career."
Noah looked at him. "Wait, you defended my mom?"
Trevor nervously chuckled. "Yeah, um, your mom should probably tell you that story."
Noah looked from Trevor to his hands and back again. "Thank you," he said softly.
"For what bud?" He asked gently.
Noah took a deep breath. "For helping my mom adopt me. I know it was probably not an easy process."
Trevor smiled gently. "Adoption rarely is, but it was worth it, to see you get a family, to see your mom so happy. I'd do it a thousand times over, not just for your mom, but for you, too."
Noah smiled. "Are you going to stick around?"
Trevor turned his body to face Noah. "As long as your mom wants me here, I'll be here."
Noah nodded. "I just… I remember Tucker, and I remember what his leaving did to my mom. She cried for a while. I hate seeing her sad. I never got to say goodbye to him. And then he died."
Trevor nodded. "I don't know what happened with your mom and Tucker, but I promise you, if god forbid anything happens between your mom and I, I will say goodbye to you. And I'm not planning on dying anytime soon."
Noah nodded, a tear sliding down his face. "I miss Tucker sometimes. I named my elephant after him, the one I used to sleep with every night. I named him Eddie. I still have him, I don't sleep with him anymore but I won't get rid of him. It makes me feel like Tucker is still watching over me."
Trevor smiled gently. "Oh, Noah, he is. I didn't know Tucker very well, but you're such an amazing kid, I don't see how he couldn't have loved you."
Noah nodded. "Yeah." He looked at Trevor again. "Are you gonna marry my mom?"
Trevor smiled gently. "Uh, we're still a ways away from that Noah. But if she wanted to marry me I'd bend over backwards to give her the wedding she wants and the marriage she deserves. Your mom deserves the world, Noah."
Noah nodded. "She's the best mom."
Back at the 16th, Olivia walked into the squad room from interrogation, having gotten a full confession. "Rollins, I have a favor to ask you," she said, slinging her purse over her shoulder. "Any chance you could take Noah tomorrow night? Trevor and I… we need the apartment tomorrow night."
Amanda nodded. "Yeah, of course. Everything okay?"
Olivia smiled and blushed a little. "Everything is… perfect. We just need the apartment so Mommy can get a little loud," she whispered. "And we're having this conversation as friends." She said, holding her finger up.
Amanda smiled. "Understood. On both counts."
Olivia quickly hugged Amanda and pulled away. "Thank you so much. I gotta get going, but I truly appreciate you taking him tomorrow." Olivia fired off a quick text to Trevor.
Any thoughts on dinner?
Trevor got the text and smiled, he looked at Noah. "Any thoughts on dinner bud?"
Noah thought for a moment. "Chinese?"
Trevor nodded. "Chinese sounds good, what do you want?"
Noah perked up a little. "Sweet and sour chicken!"
Trevor chuckled. "Sweet and sour chicken it is!" Trevor typed a quick reply.
Noah wants Chinese, sweet and sour chicken for him. Orange chicken for me.
Olivia looked at the text and smiled.
Be home with dinner soon!
Trevor and Noah spent the next half hour cleaning up the apartment for when Olivia got home. When Olivia walked in the door Trevor walked over to her and took the bag of food. "Welcome home," he whispered and kissed her softly.
Olivia smiled. "Thank you." She bit her bottom lip and kissed him again quickly. She kicked off her boots and took her blazer off, hanging it up. She walked over to Noah and hugged him. "Hi sweet boy," she whispered.
Noah hugged her back. "Hi, mom! How was work?"
Olivia relished in Noah's hugs, knowing one day when he reached teenagehood they would likely stop. She smiled. "Blissfully short," she kissed his forehead. "I'm going to go get changed, are you two okay to set up dinner?"
Trevor smiled. "We got it," he said as he walked over to her from putting the food bag down on the counter. "Go get comfortable," he whispered and rested his hands on her hips.
Olivia wrapped her arms around him. "You're a good man, Trevor Langan," she whispered back and kissed him. After a few moments, she pulled away and walked her fingers over his chest. "Be right back," she turned out of his arms and walked into the bedroom. She searched for clothes to change into and decided on a pair of sleep shorts and one of Trevor's Yale t-shirts he'd brought over. She sat on the bed and was scrolling through her phone when the door opened. She looked up, saw Trevor, and smiled. "Hey, you."
Trevor smiled. "Hey, dinner is served." He said sitting next to her. "You okay?"
Olivia locked her phone and put it on the nightstand. "I'm wonderful," she whispered and kissed him. She got up and shed her clothes, keeping her bra and panties on. She noticed Trevor staring at her. "You know a picture will last longer."
Trevor chuckled. "I figure if I look intently enough the image will burn into my mind," he saw her put on clothes, including his shirt. "You look sexy in my shirt," he said, getting up and wrapping her in his arms.
Olivia wrapped her arms around him and smiled. "It smells like you." She ran her hands over his chest. "Amanda said she can take Noah tomorrow night. I think she was originally concerned something bad was going on, but I assured her we just needed the apartment because mommy needed to be loud." She chuckled.
Trevor blushed. "I can't wait to hear you."
Olivia smiled. "We should go eat, dinner is getting cold."
Trevor held her hips a little tighter. "Wait, a proper kiss," he whispered and kissed her passionately, slipping his tongue past her lips and dipping her.
Olivia moaned and gripped the hair at the nape of his neck, as he slightly swayed them. He broke the kiss and stood her upright. She was out of breath and her eyes were dazed. "Wow," she whispered.
Trevor smirked. "Now we can go eat dinner," he whispered. He let go of her hips and took her hand. "Come on, food's getting cold."
The two of them walked out together and Olivia walked out and sat next to Noah. "So, Noah, how would you feel about having a sleepover with Auntie Amanda, Uncle Sonny, Jesse, and Billie tomorrow night?"
Noah contemplated while he chewed. "That could be fun!"
Olivia smiled. "I think you'll have a lot of fun." She served herself some of her chicken Lo mein and started to eat it. She looked over at Trevor and winked as he took a bite of his food.
