It took Luna and Stiles all of about thirty minutes to decide that attending school together and acting as if everything was perfectly fine was the way to go. They both hopped out of his truck without so much of a flinch and speedily made their way towards the school doors coated with anxiety, really hoping that the weird unspoken feelings both within them and between them would subside by the time their first class started.
But, as they slowly drew closer, Luna spotted someone hovering outside on the school steps - looking just as discombobulated as they both felt.
"Stilesy, isn't that Scott?" she asked her best friend quietly, nudging her head towards where Scott was messily staggering down the steps as if he was running. "What the…" she trailed off, just as Stiles managed to rushed over in time to steady Scott before he lost his balance completely.
"Woah, dude - are you doing okay?" Stiles asked Scott nervously, whilst shooting Luna a worried glance from where she stood anxiously. The response was pretty immediate, though - Scott simply gulped and nodded, looking incredibly distracted.
"Scott, you don't look alright," Luna frowned worriedly, whilst Stiles' anxiously beating heart plummeted into the pits of his stomach.
"I'm okay, I swear," Scott muttered out, shaking his head as if he was attempting to clear it.
"No, you're really not," Stiles mumbled back, his own eyes fluttering shut in realisation. "Because you're seeing things too…aren't you?" Luna's eyes widened in swift realisation - as did Scott's.
This off-key, uneasy feeling being a shared experience immediately meant that this wasn't good, and Luna knew right away that they'd need wider help to deal with it this time.
"How'd you know?" Scott murmured back to them both in surprise. Before either one of them could even explain, Lydia strolled up to the group with Allison cowering beside her, looking just as dishevelled. Luna's eyes continued to widen as the pattern between them slowly became as clear as day.
"Because somehow, it's happening to all three of you," Lydia announced with a small grimace.
"Oh god," Luna mumbled, clutching her bags just that little bit tighter whilst Stiles threw his head back in an extremely form of exasperation.
"Wait, do you feel okay, Luna?" Allison asked her awkwardly, causing Luna's eyes to dart over to her in surprise.
"I mean…I feel kinda spaced out and a weird but…not to the extent where I have to tell the Moon Council or anything. Speaking of - do I need to tell the Moon Council what's happening to you guys? Cos three out of five of us being down is not filling me with much joy - particularly as two of the three aren't even in the supernatural realm to that extent," Luna clarified with a panicked hiss as they all started to head towards their classes.
"I don't know - you literally died and was resurrected like freakin' Lazarus, so feeling weird isn't that crazy to me but yeah, ya might wanna report the weirdos over there," Lydia waved them off airily. The three of them scoffed in disbelief whilst Luna let out a small giggle of understanding.
"We're…we're not weird," Allison muttered back miserably.
"Sleep paralysis? Visions of dead relatives? Whatever the hell is happening to Stiles that I haven't even had the time to figure out yet?" Lydia scoffed back, spinning around to face her best friend again. "Ya, you guys are all perfectly fine!"
"I mean we died and come back to life too, right? So, just like Luna, that's gotta have some side effects…?" Scott considered to both Allison and Stiles, just as the bell rang.
Luna screwed her mouth to the side and nodded fairly.
"You got a great point there, I'll admit…but the way you guys are suffering isn't like me. It's seemingly so much worse, and that's what's scariest," she mumbled anxiously. "Because I really was dead. You guys were…halfway gone, from what I understand, right?" The group all blinked at each other worriedly and ended up shrugging.
"Look, we keep an eye on each other, okay?" Stiles encouraged them all, finally taking chage. "Luna, if you see it getting really bad between us, to the point where we're starting to look unsafe and kinda crazy…you tell that Moon Council crew of yours and make them step in to help us as let's be real, nobody else can at this point - but maybe keep that as a last resort because the idea of secret Moon Agents descending onto us already gives me chills. And Lydia…stop enjoying this so much."
And with that, they all nodded and all went to class, aside from Lydia who lingered back to revel in her being the 'normal one' for once.
…
Later that day, Luna found that she wasn't even able to listen in class. She felt like she couldn't really do it, as much as she really wanted to, because it still felt like something was going on with her body that she simply couldn't put her finger on.
And then the nausea set in.
It seemingly came out of nowhere and was already swallowing her whole, as if she was drowning in the sickly feelings swirling at the pit of her stomach. Any other day Luna would've let it pass, assuming she'd just eaten something dodgy. But not this time - this time was different.
"Sir?" she asked worriedly, raising her trembling hand whilst desperately trying to keep herself together. Her skin was clammy, and she felt the cold sweat beads roll down her forehead.
"Yes…uh…Luna?" Mr Yukimura asked with a small frown.
"C-could I please be excused? I'm…really not feeling too good at all and I'm worried it'll just get worse," she requested uncomfortably, causing Stiles to glance over at her in both surprise and immediate concern from across the classroom.
"Uh you do look a little pale - yeah, go. Let me know if you need to go home," Mr Yukimura frowned as Luna nodded and quickly ran out of the classroom into the nearest bathroom stalls. As soon as she reached the first one in view, she flipped up the lid, gripped onto the bowl and violently threw up every little thing inside of her stomach without hesitation.
But what she wasn't expecting, once she could catch her breath again, was to see the toilet bowl filled with a white, shimmering and worryingly velvety looking substance.
It was almost glittery - and that didn't register as normal.
"God," she murmured under her breath, taking a trembling hand up to wipe her mouth and taking a few staggering steps back. "What the…"
"Luna?!" came a panicked voice that she recognised almost immediately.
"Yeah Stilesy?" she called back weakly, her voice lower than usual.
"You…you okay? Mr Yukimura said I could come out and check on you!" Stiles called out worriedly.
"I wouldn't come any closer, dude. What has just left my body is pretty gross and I know you have a weak stomach as it is," Luna warned him, causing his eyebrows to shoot up in surprise from outside the stall.
"Why? Is it…like…lady stuff?" he asked awkwardly.
"No, you idiot - how would that…nevermind," Luna drawled back obviously. She slowly unlocked the cubicle and stepped aside so that Stiles could see the bowl for himself, watching his face go worryingly pale almost immediately.
"What the hell," he murmured out in surprise. "What, did you puke up pixie dust or something?"
"You'd certainly think, wouldn't you?" Luna grumbled back, running her fingers through her fair white hair. "Looks like weird things are officially happening to me, too. Now I really am concerned."
She and Stiles stared at each other for a few seconds, knowing exactly what they had to do - but genuinely dreading it.
…
A couple of days later, Luna was sat in that same History class again, aimlessly daydreaming to herself as Mr Yukimora went on about whatever the lesson objective was. He was offering up the position of reading to the class and had just asked Stiles, so Luna opened up her textbook so that she could at least pretend to follow along.
It was a nice attempt at moral support, she thought.
She shot her hesitant looking best friend a smile of support from where she sat leaning on her hand, and watched on he looked down at the book with a clenched jaw.
But she also watched him grip onto the desk, take a shuddering breath in and suddenly quivering out of fear. He glanced up at the and Luna immediately went to crisis mode, immediately sensing that it looked like he was about to pass out completely. Her eyes narrowed and she hurriedly grabbed Scott's attention by prodding his shoulder with her pen, causing him to look up too, and his own eyebrows furrowed once he saw the state his best friend was in.
"Stiles?" Luna spoke up worriedly, whilst Scott stood up and quickly joined him at the front, holding Stiles as his pale body continued to shake and tremble.
"I should take him to the nurse's office," Scott quickly told their teacher, who hurriedly nodded in agreement, now baffled as to why his entire class seemed to be falling apart. Scott led the trembling Stiles out, but somehow, amidst his angst, he still managed to blindly reach out for Luna's hand as he left.
Even though he couldn't grab her in time, it still caused her to leap up as well, reading that little desperate movement as him still needing her just as much as he needed Scott. She ran out after them both and followed them both into the locker room, where Stiles was already a panting mess on the floor with Scott knelt down in front of him.
"Stiles?! Stilesy, are you okay?" she breathed, skidding in front of him and holding his head in her hands again. His skin was hot to touch.
"N-no," Stiles spluttered out, his eyes flickering dangerously. "I'm definitely n-not okay." Luna grimaced and glanced at Scott again, who was already pulling the same face of worry.
That evening, Luna was sat cross legged in her room again. She'd decided to let Stiles some time to himself with Scott watching over him that night. It was originally so that Stiles could actually get some sleep, but somehow they'd ended up on some side quest to find a missing coyote and she didn't particularly want to join in whilst her senses were still so unsteady.
So instead, she sat on her bedroom floor with her legs crossed in an attempt to refocus herself and regain her senses again. She glanced up at the full moon above her and sighed a little, mostly in sadness. She dearly missed the days when she felt one with the moon, and she just didn't anymore.
Suddenly she felt her palms itch in a way she'd never felt them itch before. It felt like something was crawling on it, biting her, gnawing at her skin from the inside and it was becoming unbearable - so she flicked them forward absentmindedly - and then something flew out.
The substance was white, and thick - it was almost like a sonic boom cloud that a powerful fighter plane would release when it went turbo in the air. Like a forcefield - and it disappeared as quickly as it came, so she barely had a chance to look at what it was. "What the fu…" she trailed off in shock, shuffling backwards on the floor and drawing her knees to her chest in genuine terror. "How did…" She attempted to flick her hand again, but nothing happened. "Huh," she mumbled, standing up again and glancing down at her palms.
"Luna-"
"WOAH!" Luna yelped, turning around and accidentally blasting it out of her palms again. Elsa gasped and ducked in a panic, petrified of getting hit but also stunned at what just happened.
Luna's heart was racing as she stared at her palms before her eyes darted up towards her mother again. "I AM SO SORRY MOM! I don't know what that-"
"LUNA! Your powers have kicked in already?" Elsa gasped, rushing over to her daughter and holding her shoulders in her hands excitedly.
"My what kicked where?" Luna spluttered out in shock. "What do you mean?"
"I mean when the Moon Council saved you through Stiles' pleas, they revived you with strength garnered directly from their core. How else do you think you came back alive?" Elsa tutted as if it were obvious, now taking her daughters hands in hers and giving them an eager squeeze.
But Luna was none the wiser.
"So now I have freaking moon powers? Oh for god's sake - why do you never tell me about the stuff that matters at the time?!" she groaned tiredly, whilst rolling her eyes.
"Um…I do," Elsa scoffed back as if it were obvious. "But you were a child at the time-"
"Yeah Mom because I totally remember what you told me as a child," Luna drawled, finally letting go of her hands so that she could sit back down on the bed, trying to soak it all in.
Her mind was still racing - she had so many questions.
"So…so what else can I do with this newly acquired moon power?"
"Why don't you take a wild run in the woods and find out? It's a full moon tonight - what better time than now when your powers will be at their peak?" Elsa hummed with a smirk - so that's just what Luna did.
…
It turned out that Luna had slipped into the woods for a few more days than initially planned. Not only were her powers way more in depth than she thought, but they were also incredibly cool and she loved testing them out to see how far they went whilst she had some time for herself. She didn't know who to show them to either, as she hadn't heard from her friends in a couple of days.
Her mother was less than concerned at her absence - she'd been anticipating for Luna to acquire these powers from the moment she'd been turned into a Lunarlynx - in fact she felt safer knowing that her daughter could take care of herself now than she was before.
Eventually, Luna made her way back into town, hoping to bump into somebody at try and figure out why there had been such a haunting silence.
Ironically, that somebody wasn't anyone from her actual close-knit friendship group, but did just so happen to be Danny. "Oh! Hey Luna," he grinned as he popped out in front of her whilst she made her way back towards her house. She stopped walking in front of him and gave him a wave.
"Hey Danny," she beamed back.
"We missed you at school this week! Everything okay at home?" Danny asked, raising a slightly suspicious and mildly concerned brow.
"Oh, yeah! Yeah I just wasn't very well, ya know with the whole vomiting situation and stuff - I feel a lottt better now though," Luna shrugged breezily, hoping that would be enough to get him off her scent. "Thanks for asking!" She was touched that he even cared - it felt like the first time anybody really did ever since she'd disappeared.
Even her mother was less than concerned.
"Great! Cos I'm throwing a party tonight and you really need to be there," Danny smirked amusedly, fishing into his pocket and pulling a crumpled flyer out to hand over to her. Luna glanced down at it and her eyebrows raised up as her eyes flew through the details.
"Oh? Looks pretty cool," she contemplated under her breath.
"I guess Stiles will be there too, should that tempt you at all," Danny mentioned, poking her side slightly. The reaction was immediate - Luna's eyes squinted as her head nudged back up towards his again.
"I guess…wait, why did you say that so suggestively?!"
"Because I really think you and Stiles are gonna end up together, alongside most of our class by the way, and so my party is the perfect place to do it," Danny grinned cheekily. Luna's eyes widened at the sheer mention of her best friend's name in…that way. "Then my party will go down in history as the place both the lovers finally fell into each other's arms-"
"Stiles?! But Stiles and I are just-"
"Apparent 'best friends'? Yeah, so we've all heard," Danny hummed with an amusedly risen brow. "But I think we all know the next step after that, though - especially with you two and that dynamic. In fact, I kinda can't believe it's taken you so long to see it yourself…you usually seem a lot more alert than that."
Luna's eyebrows knitted together as she thought about his words properly.
He made a good point - how was everyone expecting her and Stiles to eventually end up together apart from her?
That very evening, Luna reluctantly turned up to Derek's apartment alongside, seemingly, the rest of Beacon Hills High. She took a deep breath before she slipped into the venue, weaving her way between her classmates coloured in vibrant luminous paint, the thumping music seemingly perfectly matching the way her heart was racing. They all greeted her as she walked through, a few of them even twirled her around and many of them tried to dance with her, but the only person she was after was Stiles.
She wanted to finish what they started the other week in his bedroom, she wanted to ask if he felt what she felt, she wanted to-
Then she saw him - making out with a girl in an orange wig, vigorously at that, pressed up against one of the brick walls.
It was hard not to see him - the luminous colours were pointing him out so loudly, almost as if it was taunting her. Luna's heart dropped into a stomach and she licked her bottom lip, clasping her quivering hands together as she watched them look more and more into each other, practically melting into one another in fact.
Now she was concerned.
How long was she in the woods for? Did she leave it too long? Was this his new girlfriend?
The music was getting louder and louder and she could barely hear herself think those worrying thoughts - and then she saw the one sight that would be her final straw and somewhat ruin her night.
Isaac and Allison, dancing together - topless.
Without a smidgen of hesitation, she marched over to them and stood directly in Isaac's eye line, causing him to let go of Allison immediately as if she was a bag of hot coals. "Luna, please…not now," he began to beg carefully with his hand outstretched.
"Oh no, NOW. Are, you, INSANE?!" Luna shouted over the music, her eyes totally blazing with genuine anger. "I CAN'T believe you're with HER! HER? The one who tried to KILL YOU?!"
"Luna, I-I made mistakes," Allison admitted awkwardly, ducking her head in shame.
"Oooooh Allison, don't you start - I can't even attempt to launch into you right now, I don't have the…mental capacity," Luna shut her up immediately before turning back to Isaac, biting back the tears that so desperately wanted to fall from her eyelids. "You…I can't believe you. I trusted you more than I trusted anyone, Isaac, and you ended up with the ONE woman you knew would send me over the edge. How…how could you?!"
"Alright Luna, c'mere," Isaac murmured, dragging her into a quieter corner away from the uncomfortable Allison and most of the other raving party guests. Once they were safely aside, Luna clenched her jaw and crossed her arms as she awaited his explanation. "Look, I thought we were okay to move on and date other people at this point?!"
"It's not you moving on that's the issue, it's who you moved on with. And you know that, so don't try and make me look like some crazy obsessed ex girlfriend," Luna snapped back as if it were obvious.
"It shouldn't even MATTER who I've moved on with, Luna! C'mon, let's be real here. I was never even the guy you loved, not really. Your heart was always somewhere else and even if we were together, it wouldn't have made a difference in the end," Isaac broke it down simply and unapologetically.
Luna blinked a few times.
"What…"
"Stiles. That guy loves the hell outta you and I think you love him too. I always did. I saw the way you looked at him when he talked in big groups we were sitting in, how he'd do anything for you and put himself in complete danger for you, despite being, like…the only guy that wasn't supernatural - in a way that I've never even seen him do for Scott. That's who you love and who loves you - trust me, who I ended up with isn't the issue and never ever was," Isaac stated simply, looking her dead in the eye so that she could see how genuine he was being.
Luna's tongue darted out across her bottom lip as she reluctantly dropped her head.
"You'd certainly think. I just walked in here and the first thing I saw was him was making out with some girl," she told him grumpily, unable to even look up.
Isaac cocked his head to the side in surprise.
"Stiles was?!" he scoffed in disbelief.
"Yup."
"Wild. Have you actually told him how you feel yet?" Isaac raised a suspicious eyebrow.
"No? Why the hell would I do that, Isaac?" Luna blinked back, causing him to squint and cock his head to the other inside instead. "Don't look at me like that! It would be embarrassing!"
"Its Stiles. Do you really think he cares about you embarrassing yourself? The guy is so far in love with you that you could drop down ten flights of stairs and land in gravy and he still wouldn't laugh," Isaac scoffed, ruffling her hair playfully.
Luna smirked and nudged her head away from his hand.
"Okay, true. Maybe I'll say something later…or rather never," she rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out.
"Scaredy cat," Isaac hummed back before looking out to the rest of the party. Luna nibbled her bottom lip and leaned against the wall.
"So…is Allison better than me in bed?" she couldn't help but ask. Isaac's head snapped back over to hers in surprise, his innocent eyes widening like crazy.
"What?! We haven't even had sex with each other yet," he answered in confusion.
"Well then…you just make sure that you text me after you do, and let me know if she is, alright?" Luna prodded his shoulder playfully. "I pride myself in that kinda thing."
"Right. Because that's not overfamiliar and slightly stalkerish at all," Isaac grimaced back, staring at her as if she was insane.
"Oh Isaac…it's like you don't even know me," Luna drawled, leaning her head on his shoulder sweetly, whilst he couldn't help but chuckle and kiss the top of her head back fondly.
