A/N: Please read and review?
Shoutouts:
Zirdor: Spider-Man's DC counterpart is actually Nightwing; Batman is Iron Man's, according to Comic Vine. And I actually tried to make this two-parter more like a CSI episode, as I've been watching a lot of crime/mystery shows lately in my spare time.
Alix: In the comics, Teresa mostly wore her hair down, expect on rare occasions, so I'll let you all know when she has her hair tied. Besides, she's only 12 right now, not old enough to look like that. As for obscure villains, I've already put some in on my previous seasons; Swarm, Grizzly, Beetle and Hydro-Man just to name some. Check if you don't believe me?
Girl Anime Club: Yeah, but no one knows that yet.
In the city, Lt. DeWolff kept driving her car though the city, now in Times Square, with Sin-Eater's car no longer behind her.
"After all that's happened, I just wanna get home and relax." she thought. "Hopefully, we'll have more luck tomorrow."
She took out her phone and dialled Stan Carter's number, before putting it to her hear.
"Hi, you've reached Stan Carter. I can't come to phone right now, so leave a message?" came Carter's voice, from an answering machine.
"Man, Stan must be really sick." Lt. DeWolff thought, putting her phone away. "I might pop over and check on him tomorrow."
She kept driving her car through the city, and soon pulled up outside the Ellington flat complex. She got out and walked inside, then approached the receptionist.
"Rough day, Jean?" asked the man behind the counter.
"Oh, it has been." Lt. DeWolff sighed. "And with that Sin-Eater out there, I doubt no one's gonna be safe for a while."
"Well, I hope you catch him soon. I don't like the sound of him." the man said.
"We'll do our best, Frank." Lt. DeWolff promised.
She turned and walked off, then soon entered her apartment, before she closed the door, then she took off her jacket and hat.
"Phew. What a day." she said.
She undid her holster and put it down on the couch, before she walked into the kitchen.
"Better get something to eat." she thought.
She opened up a cupboard to get a can of food, when she heard a noise.
"Huh?" she gasped, turning around. "Who's there?"
She closed the cupboard and walked out of the kitchen, seeing her window was open.
"Huh?" she muttered. "Okay, whoever's here should know I'm a Cop."
"Oh, I know. Hello, Jean DeWolff." came a cold voice.
Lt. DeWolff turned left and saw a shadowy figure, aiming a shotgun at her, making her back away towards the couch. She turned to reach for her sidearm on the couch, but didn't see it.
"Looking for this?" he asked, holding it up, his hand out of the shadows.
"Who are you?" Lt. DeWolff gasped, moving back.
The man tossed her pistol over into a trash bin, before he stepped out of the shadows, revealing he was Sin-Eater.
"Does this answer your question, sinner?" he asked.
"Sin-Eater?" the Lt. gasped, covering her mouth. "You... You're the one who's been on that killing spree?! But why?"
"Because they have sinned." Sin-Eater snapped. "Just like you have."
"Me?! What for?" Lt. DeWolff asked.
"Oh, you already know, bitch." Sin-Eater retorted. "You'll soon be with the others in Hell!"
"But-" Lt. DeWolff began.
Sin-Eater fired his shotgun, hitting her square in the heart, killing her before she hit the floor, before blood spread all over.
"I'm really sorry about that. Unlike the others, I had a soft spot for you." Sin-Eater admitted. "But you were too soft for interrogating criminals."
He turned and walked off, leaving Jean DeWolff's body on the floor, as more blood poured out of it.
The next morning, on Saturday the 20th, in the Parker house, Peter, Teresa and Aunt May were all having breakfast in the kitchen, having wheat cakes.
"Mmm. These are delicious, Aunt May." Teresa said, her mouth full. "I can see why Peter's likes them."
"Hey, your favortie breakfast's great too." Peter assured.
Teresa smiled as she swallowed her food.
"Thanks, bro." Teresa said.
Aunt May smiled at them both, before they all finished their breakfast and put the plates near the sink.
"Right, well, I'm gonna get washed and dressed." Teresa said.
She turned and walked upstairs, as Peter and Aunt May entered the living room.
"So, uh, Peter, do you mind telling me what happened yesterday?" Aunt May asked. "I figured it had something to do with Spider-Man?"
"Yes. We were looking for Sin-Eater, that man going around killing people." Peter explained.
"All of you?" Aunt May asked.
"No. Just me and Anya." Peter explained. "Gwen went to her dad's precinct to see if there was a pattern in the killings, but she couldn't. As for Miles, I told him to stay unless we really needed him, since it was his birthday."
"That's nice of you." Aunt May commented.
She picked up the remote and turned the TV on, when a News bulletin came on.
"We interrupt this program for a News flash." a man said.
A Newsman was sat behind his desk.
"We regret to inform our viewers that the murderous Sin-Eater has struck again last night." he explained regretfully. "This time, his victim being one of New York City's finest Police Officers; Lt. Jean DeWolff."
Peter gasped, covering his mouth in shock, while Aunt May was horrified.
"Due to what's happened, we urge you all to not travel anywhere alone, as all of his victims have been alone when they were killed." the Newsman explained. "We will continue to bring you up to date on this story as more comes to it."
Aunt May and Peter turned to each other.
"So, are you going after this madman?" Aunt May asked.
"Aunt May, I have to find this monster and stop him." Peter explained. "That Cop he just killed was one of the few who trusted me and Gwen from the start. We owe it to her."
"I understand." Aunt May said. "You better call Gwen and George and let them know. I'll stay with Teresa today since I'm not needed at FEAST."
"Right. And be careful?" Peter said.
"You too?" Aunt May said.
Peter walked out of the room and took out his phone to call Gwen and tell her the News, if she didn't know already.
A little later, at the scene of the crime, several of New York's CSI's - including Ray Cooper and David Caine - were all examining the scene, while the coroner, who was a slightly older man called Doctor Robert Woods, who had no hair and a small beard, examined Jean DeWolff's body.
"I can't believe he killed one of our own." Caine sighed.
"I know what you mean." Woods sighed. "Lt. Jean DeWolff was one of our finest in the field."
"Not to mention the Commissioner's daughter, Bob." Ray sighed.
Doc Woods kept examining the body when Capt. Stacy came in and saw the dead body of his second-in-command.
"Ah, Jean." the Capt. sighed.
Everyone turned to him as he approached the body.
"Bob, are you sure she was killed the same way as the others?" he asked.
"I'm positive." Woods said.
"And Sin-Eater left the same calling card as with the Judge and the others." Caine added, coming over.
He held up the card as the Capt. looked at it, making him sigh.
"Uh, Capt. Stacy, the press are outside and they want a report?" a Cop said, standing behind the police tape.
"I'll be right there." Capt. Stacy said. "Ray, check every inch of this place for evidence. I wanna know who this Sin-Eater is so we can nab him."
"Yes, sir." Ray said.
Capt. Stacy turned and left the room, before he soon stood outside, where several reporters and cameramen were, including Whitney Chang, Ned Leeds and Gilberto Corazon.
"Capt., how do you feel about your fellow officer's death?" Ned asked.
"I'm devastated to tell you the truth." Capt. Stacy replied honestly. "Jean was a fine cop, and we'll all miss her."
"Does her father know what happened?" Gilberto asked.
"I'm afraid he does, and he's probably the most devastated by what's happened." Capt. Stacy assured.
"Do you have any new leads on who Sin-Eater is?" Whitney asked.
"Oh, I'm afraid not. But rest assured, we'll get this Sin-Eater, because now it's personal." Capt. Stacy stated. "Lt. DeWolff was one of my most trusted Cops, and she served with me for years as my right-hand woman. I can promise everyone, that we are gonna re-double our efforts in finding this monster. I can only hope and pray we get him before he kills again."
Meanwhile, in the Spider-Cave, the Web-Warriors were all standing around the computer, all with their masks off, watching the live News bulletin on the screen, before it went off.
"Man, that's horrible." Anya said sadly. "Capt. Stacy must be upset about what happened."
"Yeah. Your dad sounded emotional saying that." Miles noted, turning to Gwen.
"Well, he would be." Gwen sighed. "Just like I am."
"Me too." Peter sighed.
Miles and Anya looked at Peter and Gwen, noticing they were upset.
"Well, what do you mean?" Anya asked. "Why are you two upset about this?"
"Did you guys know Lt. DeWolff personally?" Miles inquired.
"Yes. Lt. DeWolff was one of the few Cops who trusted us from the start." Peter explained.
"It's true. She was second only to my dad." Gwen explained sadly. "And, you heard my dad there, she was also his right-hand woman. His most trusted cop on the force."
Miles and Anya both looked shocked by this news, both with their mouths wide open.
"Oh, Gwen, I...I didn't know." Anya said.
"My dad told me your dad trusted her a lot, but I didn't know it was like that." Miles assured.
Gwen sighed, as she still couldn't believe Lt. DeWolff was dead.
"So, what are we gonna do?" Anya asked.
"Well, like Capt. Stacy said on the News, this is now personal." Peter said. "Sin-Eater's latest victim was a friend of ours, so we have to stop him."
"You're right." Gwen said, determined. "Whoever this scum is has to pay."
"Well, we better find him fast, before he can kill again." Miles reasoned. "If he starts killing off Cops, my dad or Gwen's could be his next target."
"You're right. Let's split up and search the city. We can find him faster that way." Peter said. "Whoever finds him first, calls the others."
"Good idea, but where do we start looking?" Miles asked.
"Well, it would help if we knew a pattern." Gwen sighed.
"Tell me about it. I spoke to my dad last night." Anya explained. "Apparently all his killings have been in different parts of the city, so it's not gonna be easy."
"Okay. Gwen, you start with the area around Central Park, as it's bound to be crawling with people." Peter explained.
"Understood." Gwen said.
"Miles, you take Times Square, and Anya you start with Chinatown." Peter instructed.
"Right." Miles said.
"Okay, but what about you?" Anya asked.
"I'll start with the Flatiron District." Peter said. "One of us is bound to find a clue as to where Sin-Eater is."
"Right." Gwen said, as Miles and Anya nodded.
Meanwhile, at the Daily Bugle J. Jonah Jameson was sitting behind his desk, deep in thought, when Robbie came in.
"You okay, Jonah?" Robbie asked. "You seem a bit quiet, which is unusual for you?"
"Oh, got a lot on my mind today, Robbie." Jameson admitted, getting up. "This murderous Sin-Eater. He's a crazed psychopath, killing people for the fun of it, and now his recent victim being Lt. DeWolff. It's... It's barbaric."
"I know. We all feel the same way." Robbie said. "Peter phone me earlier and said his girlfriend's upset, since her father was the Lt's. boss."
Jameson sighed. "I hope this murderer's caught before he kills again." he said. "The way he's doing it, seems like he's killing people who've sinned when they haven't."
He turned around and looked out the window, as Robbie looked at him, fully agreeing with him on this.
Later, at the 13 precinct, Capt. Stacy and Ray both walked down a hallway through the crime lab, when Lt. Watanabe came towards them.
"Sir, is it true about Jean?" she asked.
"I'm afraid it is." Capt. Stacy sighed. "Ray, I want every member of your department to analyse all the evidence. We need to find out who Sin-Eater is."
"I'm on it." Ray said, before he walked off.
"Do you have any leads, Lt.?" Capt. Stacy asked.
"Still nothing, George." Lt. Watanabe reported. "Whoever this creep is is so gonna pay for killing our friend for sure though."
"I know. By killing Jean, he went from murderer to cop killer." Capt. Stacy sighed.
"And by the way he goes, he's one of the worst cold-blooded ones in history." came an older voice.
Capt. Stacy turned around, and saw Commissioner Philip DeWolff standing in the doorway, who was also Lt. DeWolff's father.
"Commissioner?" they both said.
They saluted as Commissioner DeWolff came over to them.
"At ease." he said. "George, I need to talk to you alone?"
"Understood. Let me know if anything comes up, Lt.?" Capt. Stacy asked.
"Yes, sir." Lt. Watanabe said.
She turned and walked off, as Capt. Stacy and Commissioner DeWolff both walked off elsewhere, then stood in the Capt.'s office.
"George, please tell me you have a lead on this bastard who took my daughter?" the Commissioner asked.
"I'm afraid not." Capt. Stacy sighed. "I've got the entire precinct and the others searching, but nothing so far."
The Commissioner sighed. "I still can't believe it. I always thought if Jean died before me, she'd be killed in a shootout, not murdered in cold blood." he said.
"Tell me about it. Even I never saw this coming." Capt. Stacy sighed. "I just wonder what made Sin-Eater kill her?"
"Jean would never sin like that." the Commissioner swore. "Sin-Eater's probably a maniac killing people who he thinks have sinned."
"Well, we do know what the other victims have done, but I still don't see a pattern." the Capt. sighed. "We may never know until we catch him."
The Commissioner sighed, when Gary Taylor came into the office - as the door was open.
"Sir, we've got something." Taylor said, before spotting the Commissioner. "I think you both need to see this."
The Capt. and Commissioner both followed him out of the office and into a lab room, where Ray and an Asian Chinese man called Kai Benton were sitting by a computer.
"Well, what is it?" the Capt. asked.
"Show them what you've got, Kai." Ray said.
Kai pressed a few buttons on the computer, bringing up a recording from the camera in Lt. DeWolff's room.
"I found the security footage from the apartment Lt. DeWolff was killed in." Kai explained.
Sin-Eater lifted the window up and climbed into the apartment through it, before he began to walk off.
Kai stopped the footage, allowing them to see Sin-Eater.
"So, that's what Sin-Eater looks like." the Commissioner said.
"Well, judging by the posture, he's male. Pity we can't see his face." Ray said.
"And by the way he's holding his shotgun, he's right-handed." Capt. Stacy added. "Narrows the field slightly."
"And he seems to be wearing gloves too." Taylor noted, looking carefully.
"Yep." Kai nodded.
"That explains why there's no fingerprints at any of the crime scenes." Ray realized.
"He must plan his killings in advance." Taylor deduced. "Track them down, find the best place to kill 'em, and then 'Pop', kills them."
"Well, I still don't see a pattern to all the killings." Capt. Stacy sighed.
"Can you get zoom in and get a description of this guy?" the Commissioner asked.
"Sure." Kai said.
He typed on the computer, zooming in on Sin-Eater, before the computer brought up his body image.
"Well, we can see he's Caucasian through the eyes in the mask." he said.
"What about his height and weight?" the Commissioner asked.
"I'd say, uh, around 5ft 11, just above the average height." Kai said. "As for weight, I'd say, slightly average muscle, maybe a little stronger."
"Well, that's much to go on, but it's something." Capt. Stacy said.
"He could be wearing a muscular suit, but his height you can't ignore." the Commissioner reasoned.
"So, Caucasian, right-handed, and about 5ft 11?" Ray said.
"Yep." Kai said. "It's the best I can do without a face."
"You did a good job, Kai." Ray assured.
A little later, Capt. Stacy, the Commissioner, Ray and Taylor all walked down a hallway, before they entered a meeting room, as Caine, Julie and Lt. Watanabe all came in behind them.
"You called us, sir?" the Lt. asked.
"Yes. Wait, where's Sgt Davis?" the Capt. inquired.
"Sgt. Davis is still on patrol, but he's not alone, sir." Lt. Watanabe assured. "Every office out there is in pairs, even those who ride bikes."
"Good." Capt. Stacy said. "I've already lost one good Cop this week, and I don't want to lose another."
"You have more news on this killing?" Caine asked.
"Well, we know Sin-Eater's a man, right-handed and about 5ft 11 due to footage Kai's shown us." Ray explained. "Other than that, still nothing."
"Well, still, at least it's something." Julie reasoned.
"It would help if we got word from elsewhere outside the precincts." the Commissioner sighed.
"Sir, maybe we should call Spider-Man and his friends for help then?" Caine suggested.
Everyone turned to him.
"He and Spider-Girl were at the scene of the Judge's murder when Taylor and I got there." Caine explained.
Taylor nodded to confirm.
"You want us to ask those people for help?" the Commissioner asked, appalled.
"Sir, do you not trust any of them, even after all they've done for this city?" Capt. Stacy asked.
"They're vigilantes!" the Commissioner argued. "I don't know why you support them, George."
"Phil, Spider-Man saved my daughter's life, more than once actually!" Capt. Stacy snapped. "I've seen the good he and his friends have done, and while we can handle normal criminals, we can't deal with supervillains."
The Commissioner frowned, unconvinced, as he looked around at the others.
"Sir, no offence, but Jean trusted them a lot." Lt. Watanabe argued. "Like George said; they've done a lot of good in this city, stuff we'd never be able to do. I didn't like them at first, but I've changed since then."
"Spider-Man and Ghost-Spider saved my wife's life during that RHINO rampage." Taylor said. "That was more than enough to convince me they're good."
"Fine. I'll trust them this time, for Jean's sake if for no one else." the Commissioner sighed, giving in. "But how do we contact them?"
"Leave that to me." Capt. Stacy said. "My daughter's boyfriend knows how contact them."
In the city, Spider-Man was web-swinging through the city, before he landed on a rooftop in the Flatiron District. He looked around, seeing no sign of any trouble, then touched the side of his mask.
"Guys, anything?" he asked.
(Upper East Side)
Ghost Spider was gliding down a street in Madison Avenue near Central Park, looking around, before no sign of trouble.
"No sign of Sin-Eater on my end." she reported. "I'll keep looking."
(Times Square)
Shadow-Spider was leaning on the side of a building in Times Square, but saw no sign of trouble.
"There's no sign of him in Times Square." he reported. "Wherever he is, he's tough to catch."
(Chinatown)
Spider-Girl was crawling up a wall of the Leon Hotel, before she got to the rooftop and looked around.
"I've got nothing either, Spider-Man." she reported. "This jerk must be elsewhere."
(Flatiron District)
"Well, keep looking, guys." Spider-Man said. "He's gotta be here somewhere, as he can't hide forever. Even if it takes us weeks or months, we're gonna catch this guy."
"Understood." Ghost-Spider said.
"Gotcha." Shadow-Spider said.
"Bien." Spider-Girl said.
Spider-Man lowered his hand and looked around.
"Sin-Eater, where are you?" he thought. "We'll get you for killing Lt. DeWolff and the others before you kill again, hopefully."
He sighed slightly, when he heard someone land behind him, but as his Spider-Sense didn't tingle, he knew it was a friend.
"You had any luck, Spider-Man?" the man said.
Spider-Man turned around and saw it was Daredevil.
"No. We've split up to cover the city, but we haven't had much luck." he explained, bitterly.
"You sound a bit bitter. Care to tell me?" Daredevil asked.
"It's not just you that's lost a friend to this monster now." Spider-Man explained. "That Cop he killed last night was a close friend of Gwen's father."
"My God! I'm sorry to hear that." Daredevil said. "Did you know her well?"
"Yeah. When I first started out, she was one of the few who respected me from the start." Spider-Man explained. "That's how personal it is for us."
"Well, the quicker we find this psycho the better." Daredevil concluded. "It would help if we knew his next target."
"Indeed." Spider-Man agreed.
They both looked around, when Spider-Man heard his phone beep.
"Huh?" he muttered.
He took it out, and saw it was Capt. Stacy, confusing him.
"Who is it?" Daredevil asked.
"Gwen's dad, Capt. Stacy." Spider-Man explained. "I better take this."
"Go. I'll let you know if I find anything." Daredevil promised.
Spider-Man nodded and moved to the other side of the rooftop, before he raised his mask up to reveal his mouth, for he had a feeling the Capt. wanted to speak to Peter Parker.
"Yes." he said.
"Peter, I need your help." Capt. Stacy explained.
"Figured." Peter thought. "Why, what's wrong?"
(13th precinct)
Capt. Stacy stood in his office, holding his phone near his ear.
"I need you to get in touch with Spider-Man." he explained.
"Spider-Man?" Peter questioned.
"Yes. We need help in finding Sin-Eater." Capt. Stacy explained.
(The rooftop)
"Uh... You know, I can see Spider-Man coming in." Peter lied. "I'll put him on for you."
"Okay." Capt. Stacy said.
Spider-Man breathed and lowered his mask, before he deepened his voice slightly.
"Um, Capt. Stacy?" he said.
(13th precinct)
"Spider-Man, is that you?" Capt. Stacy asked.
"Yes." Spider-Man replied.
Capt. Stacy looked puzzled slightly, for he found the voices similar.
"You still there?" Spider-Man said.
"Oh, yeah, sorry. Are you and your friends searching for Sin-Eater?" Capt. Stacy asked.
"Yes." Spider-Man replied. "When we heard about Lt. DeWolff, we became more determined, due to how she always stood up for us."
"Glad to hear it." Capt. Stacy said. "Have you had any luck yet?"
(The rooftop)
"I'm afraid not." Spider-Man sighed. "We've all split up and haven't found anything yet. Even our friend Daredevil's arrived to help out and nothing."
"Well, we have to find him. Commissioner DeWolff wants this man caught and fast." Capt. Stacy explained. "He wants justice for his daughter's death."
"Wait, the Commissioner's her father?" Spider-Man questioned, as Gwen had never told him that.
"He is." Capt. Stacy sighed.
"Well, look, I promise you, if we find him before you, we'll let you know." Spider-Man promised. "If you do, call Peter so he can let us know?"
"Deal." Capt. Stacy promised.
Spider-Man hung up and put his phone away.
(13th precinct)
Capt. Stacy lowered his phone, a puzzled look on his face.
"Okay, that's odd? Spider-Man sounded almost like Peter back there?" he thought. "Come to think of it, whenever I've been with Spider-Man, he sounds a bit like Peter. How come I never noticed before? Once this mess is over, I need to investigate this alone."
(The rooftop)
Spider-Man walked over to Daredevil, who turned to him.
"Does the Capt. have any leads?" Daredevil asked.
"No. Apparently he needs our help, so I told him we're searching around, but have found nothing." Spider-Man explained.
"Well, maybe with my hardened senses we will." Daredevil said. "Come on? This monster must be found."
He jumped off the rooftop and began to swing away with his billy-club, before Spider-Man shot a web from his right hand and swung after him.
A little later, at the Daily Bugle, Jameson was walking out of his office, just as Ned came over.
"Boss, I got the report on the Sin-Eater case." he explained.
"Good. How's people taking the death of Lt. DeWolff?" Jameson asked, a bit of sorrow in his voice.
"It's a bit of shock, Mr. Jameson." Ned replied. "It's horrible."
"I can relate to that." Robbie said, coming over. "My wife just told me several people in our neighborhood haven't dared leave their homes all day, in case they're next."
"I don't blame them." Jameson sighed. "With this so-called serial killer out there, the city's worse than ever. He's even worse than those web-heads."
"He?" Ned inquired.
"I got a call from the Police and they told me they've caught Sin-Eater on camera, and they've described him as a man due to his posture." Jameson explained.
"Oh." Ned said.
"Jonah, what do you mean by worse?" Robbie asked. "I've told you, they're not menaces."
"And I keep saying they are, but at least unlike Sin-Eater, they don't kill in cold-blood." Jameson admitted. "I've seen enough photos from Parker to prove he's right about that at least. If they ever have killed, it was probably in defense. That's the only good thing I'll ever say about them."
Robbie sighed. "Well, at least that's something you like about them." he thought.
"So, what's in the report, Leeds?" Jameson asked.
"Um, well, it's just updates on what Sin-Eater looks like." Ned explained. "They've gotten his height and some other things from footage they've seen, but not much else. He apparently wears a ski mask over his face."
"Whoever this son of a gun is, he'll be caught soon." Jameson said. "I just hope he doesn't kill again before it happens."
"We can all agree there, Jonah." Robbie assured.
"Keep me updated. I'm going to go to the precinct myself to give my condolences." Jameson said. "I liked Lt. DeWolff, one of the best Cops this city's seen."
"She sure was." Ned said. "They all said that."
Jameson nodded, before he walked off and left the room, while Robbie and Ned turned to each other.
Once outside, Jameson walked over towards his car, that was parked outside, then he got into it, and began to drive off.
Unknown to him however, Sin-Eater was following him in his own car, his shotgun resting right beside him.
"You're next, Jameson." he thought.
About 10 minutes later, Jameson pulled his car over outside the Skylight Diner, as he was getting hungry.
"Guess I better get something to go before I head over to the precinct." he thought. "Can't think on an empty stomach."
He got out of his car and entered the diner, just as Sin-Eater pulled his car over nearby.
"Perfect." he thought.
Inside, Jameson sat at a table, eating a Skylight Club's sandwich, which he soon finished, as a waitress came over to him.
"That'll be 17.95." the waitress said.
"Well, there you go." Jameson said, paying the bill in cash. "Keep the change."
He got up and walked off, then left the diner. As he made his way back to his car however, he saw that the front left tire had been popped.
"Huh?" he muttered.
He ran towards it and crouched down near it.
"Okay, who could have done this?" he said, getting up. "I know this couldn't have been an accident."
"Oh, it wasn't, Jonah." came a cold voice.
Jameson turned to his right, and saw Sin-Eater, aiming his shotgun at him.
"So, you're Sin-Eater?" Jameson inquired, backing away slightly.
"Bingo." Sin-Eater smirked.
Jameson gulped and reached into his pocket, turning on his phone to record this, just as Spider-Man and Daredevil landed on the rooftop across the street.
"There he is." Spider-Man said. "Targeting Jameson? Oh, I don't believe it."
"Tell the others." Daredevil said.
"Guys, I've found him. We're at the Skylight Diner." Spider-Man reported, touching the side of his mask. "His next target's Jameson. Get here quick!"
"Jameson?" Ghost-Spider gasped. "That's his next target?!"
"I wish I was kidding, but I'm not." Spider-Man said.
"Are we sure we wanna save him after all he's said about us?" Spider-Girl asked.
"Yeah. He criticizes us to turn the public against us!" Shadow-Spider argued.
"I may hate Jameson due to what he says about us, but even he doesn't deserved to be killed by Sin-Eater." Spider-Man explained.
"Fine!" Ghost-Spider huffed. "We'll be there as soon as we can."
Spider-Man lowered his hand
"Now, you will join the rest of the sinners in hell!" Sin-Eater snarled, clicking his shotgun.
"Wait? There's something I need to know." Jameson pleaded. "Surely you can give a man one last wish?"
"Okay, what is it?" Sin-Eater snarled.
"Should we...?" Spider-Man began.
"Let's see what this is about, first?" Daredevil said, holding his arm out. "We might find out why Sin-Eater's killed the other people."
"Why did you kill all those people?" Jameson asked. "Surely you must've had a reason, but nobody knows why?"
"You really wanna know?" Sin-Eater scoffed. "Well, I killed the Priest because he opposed capital punishment. I killed the Judge because he gave out light sentences. I killed the nurse because she cared for criminals. I killed the psychiatrist at Ravencroft for releasing dangerous criminals. I killed that Asian man for saving criminal's lives. And I killed Jean DeWolff because she was merciful to criminals under interrogation."
"But what do they all have in common?" Jameson asked.
"Simple, they all helped or/and were sympathetic towards criminals." Sin-Eater snarled. "Scum like that don't deserve sympathy, just like you."
"Me? What have I done?" Jameson exclaimed, pointing at himself.
"Simple, you're opposed to vigilantes, which would let criminals run free otherwise." Sin-Eater snarled.
He aimed his gun to pull the trigger, when the gun got webbed up.
"What the hell?!" he gasped.
Jameson frowned, before Daredevil and Spider-Man both landed in front of him.
"Spider-Man?" Jameson gasped.
"And Daredevil!" Sin-Eater snarled.
"So, you're the Sin-Eater guy who's been going around killing people?" Spider-Man inquired.
"They deserved it." Sin-Eater snarled. "They're all guilty of committing sin, and in some cases, for letting scum live!"
"Scum? Hey, everyone makes mistakes. Even I've made some and I'm still not happy about it." Spider-Man assured, referring to his Uncle Ben's death.
"And by letting scum live, what do you mean, Sin-Eater?" Daredevil asked.
"Those people I killed had sinned, and deserved to die for allowing the worst kind of scum to go free." Sin-Eater snarled.
"You're insane!" Jameson snapped, pointing at him. "By killing those innocent people, you're no worse that the criminals out there!"
"You know, I may not agree with Jameson on much, but he's right about you!" Spider-Man agreed. "By killing innocent people in cold blood, you're becoming just like the criminals in this city!"
"Oh, am I?" Sin-Eater snarled, aiming his shotgun.
"You get Jameson outta here, and I'll handle this punk." Daredevil said.
"Right." Spider-Man said.
Sin-Eater pulled the trigger, freeing his shotgun from the webbing, just as Spider-Man grabbed Jameson and jumped away with him, while Daredevil pounced towards him. Spider-Man landed on the rooftop of the diner and put Jameson down.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, but I still think you're a menace around here." Jameson said.
"Figured." Spider-Man sighed.
"But, while you and your friends may be menaces and freaks to society, I will admit this, at least you lot have a conscience." Jameson said. "Unlike some people out there, you don't resort to killing in cold-blood and murder like he is. That's the only good thing I'll say about you."
"Put it in that paper of yours and we'll believe you, 'cause coming from you, that's a complement." Spider-Man promised.
He turned and saw Daredevil pinning Sin-Eater on the ground, before Sin-Eater threw Daredevil over himself, causing him to hit a wall with a sign above it. He turned and fired at the sign three times, causing it to fall onto the wall and trap Daredevil.
"Daredevil!" Spider-Man gasped, landing on the road. "NOO!"
Sin-Eater turned around to him, as he reloaded his shotgun.
"You shouldn't have interfered, wall-crawler!" he growled.
"You shouldn't have started killing people!" Spider-Man retorted. "Especially Lt. DeWolff, one of the few Cops who trusted me from the start!"
"She and the others sinned, and deserved no sympathy for how they treat criminals." Sin-Eater growled.
"No sympathy?" Spider-Man questioned, holding his fists up.
"Yes. The death penalty should be given out to all those who've committed the worst kind of crimes, like murder." Sin-Eater snarled.
"How can we be sure those people really are guilty?" Spider-Man scoffed. "They'd be like Richard Kimble from The Fugitive otherwise. I don't blame Reverend Finn for disapproving of the death penalty as there's a chance someone framed them."
"Really? Then the Justice system is blind!" Sin-Eater retorted. "All sinners deserve to die!"
"No one has the right to play judge, jury and executor!" Spider-Man yelled. "And just so you know, by killing in cold blood, you're the sinner here, not them!"
Sin-Eater growled and aimed his shotgun at him, but he shot a web at it, jamming it, before he fired it, freeing it from the web. He fired again, but missed as Spider-Man jumped up, making the bullets wedge into a wall.
"Lucky there's no one outside right now." he thought, diving down.
Sin-Eater looked up, then rolled to his left as Spider-Man tried to kick him, then he turned and aimed his shotgun, as Spider-Man turned and knocked it to its left, making the bullet hit a wall. Sin-Eater growled and tried to whack Spider-Man with it, but missed as he ducked, who then punched his belly, knocking him back.
"Oh!" he moaned.
Sin-Eater looked up and growled, then fired his shotgun from the hip, making Spider-Man jump and back flip away to avoid it, before he shot a web at Sin-Eater, who rolled to his right to avoid it. Spider-Man landed in a three-point stance, then shot a web with his left hand, which hit Sin-Eater's legs, wrapping them around, then he pulled on it, pulling Sin-Eater onto his back.
"OH!" he moaned.
He looked up and fired his shotgun twice, but missed Spider-Man as he jumped up.
"If he can shot his gun free from my webs, I'll have to find another way..." he thought.
He landed on the side of a building, before he jumped away from it as Sin-Eater fried again, making him miss.
"Wait, all I need to do is trap him in a web cocoon. Better wait for the others to get here though." he thought, somersaulting forward. "If we all interweave our webs, he won't be able to escape."
He landed on the ground, as Sin-Eater turned to him and pulled the trigger, but the gun just clicked.
"You're lucky I have to reload, web-head." he hissed.
He began to reload his shotgun, when Spider-Man looked up, and saw the other Web-Warriors all swinging down towards the scene behind Sin-Eater.
"Guys, web him up together so he can't move!" Spider-Man called.
"You got it, Spidey!" Ghost-Spider called. "Land all around him so he can't escape!"
"Right." Shadow-Spider said.
"Check." Spider-Girl nodded.
Sin-Eater turned to them all and fired his shotgun, before they all landed around him, then all four Spiders shot webs at him both from hands.
"AHH! What the?!" he gasped, dropping his shotgun.
"You're not getting away, you murderer." Spider-Girl joked.
"So, you're going to the slammer." Ghost-Spider added.
"And FYI, you're the one who's sinned by committing murder." Shadow-Spider finished.
All four Spiders stopped their webbing, just as Sin-Eater was covered from neck to toe, with only his masked head left.
"AHH!" he moaned, falling onto his side.
All four Web-Warriors gathered together and looked at him, just as Daredevil pulled himself up from the ruined sign, then ran to Spider-Girl's left.
"Nice catch." he remarked.
"Thanks, Daredevil." Ghost-Spider smirked.
"Yeah." Spider-Man nodded. "Now all we do is wait for the Cops."
They all turned as they heard sirens, as several Police cars showed up, and about a dozen Cops came out, including Lt. Watanabe and Capt. Stacy. Jameson watched from the rooftop, as the heroes all dragged Sin-Eater towards the Cops.
"I'll send the recording once they've taken that scum out of here." he thought.
"Speak of the devil." Shadow-Spider muttered.
"Here he is, officers." Spider-Girl said.
"All webbed up and not able to harm anyone." Ghost-Spider assured.
"Care to unmask him and find out who he really is?" Spider-Man asked. "We thought it was only fair one of you do it."
"Thank you, and I'll gladly do it." Lt. Watanabe said, cracking her knuckles. "I want to see the scum who killed my best friend."
She walked over to Sin-Eater and pulled off his mask, reveling Sin-Eater was none other Sgt. Stan Carter, shocking everyone.
"Sgt. Carter?!" the Cops exclaimed.
"A Cop did all this?" Ghost-Spider gasped.
"Okay...I so didn't see this coming." Spider-Man admitted.
"Neither did I." Daredevil said.
Shadow-Spider and Spider-Girl both looked each other, shocked just like the others, while on the rooftop, Jameson's mouth fell open.
"O-kay, that's something unexpected; a Cop becoming a serial killer?" he muttered.
"Okay, why the hell did do you do this, Carter?" Lt. Watanabe demanded.
"We'd all like to know that, Sgt?" Capt. Stacy frowned. "Jean trusted you, we all did, and you killed her in cold blood! Why?!"
Sgt. Carter looked up at them all, with a menacing grin.
"Because they all-" he began.
"All sinned, you told me." Spider-Man said. "But in our eyes, you're the one who sinned."
"Yeah, you killed people in cold blood." Ghost-Spider said, folding her arms. "That goes against everything a Cop does."
"We'll let you deal with this scum, officers." Daredevil said, turning to the Cops.
"Thanks." Capt. Stacy said.
Daredevil jumped up, followed by the four Spiders, who all web-swinged off, while the Cops all looked at Sgt. Carter.
"Yuri, tell the Commissioner we've got him." Capt. Stacy instructed.
"Yes, sir." the Lt. said.
She turned and ran towards her car, as Capt. Stacy approached Sgt. Carter.
"Well, Carter, you've heard this plenty of times, but you're under arrest." he said, pulling him up. "You are charged with the murders of Lt. DeWolff, Judge Rosenthal, Reverend Finn, Kelsey Evans, Wu Chang, and Henry Savage, as well as the attempted murder of J. Jonah Jameson."
He personally led his former Sgt. towards his car, before putting him in the back seat, as the five heroes looked down at the scene from the rooftop across the street.
"I am gonna make sure to prosecute that man." Daredevil said.
"You should." Ghost-Spider frowned, folding her arms. "After what he's done, he deserves it."
"I won't argue there." Spider-Man said.
"Ditto." Shadow-Spider agreed, as Spider-Girl nodded.
"Well, now that we've got him, let's go home." Spider-Man said. "It's been a long day."
"Oh, it sure has." Ghost-Spider agreed.
"You can say that again." Spider-Girl said.
"I'll keep an eye on them until they at the precinct." Daredevil said.
"Thanks, DD." Spider-Man joked.
He and the other Spiders all jumped and began to swing off, as Daredevil began to run along the rooftop, following the Police cars, which drove down the street. At the same time, Jameson began making his way down through the diner to send the Cops the recording he had.
Two days later, on Monday the 22nd, was Lt. Jean DeWolff's funeral, which was being held in the same graveyard Ben Parker was buried. Among those in attendance besides her father, were the rest of her precinct, as well as the CSI's, Frank the landlord, Peter, Aunt May, Teresa, Gwen, Miles, Anya, Jameson, Robbie, Betty, Ned and Rio. Teresa, Miles, Anya, Rio and several of the others were only there to comfort their friends and family who knew Lt. DeWolff. Because Matt Murdock didn't know Lt. DeWolff that well, he promised the Web-Warriors he'd make sure Sin-Eater was put in jail so they could all be at the funeral.
"I still can't believe she's gone." Gwen wept softly.
"We all are." Aunt May nodded. "She's up with Ben now, looking down on us, at peace."
"Yeah." Peter agreed, before he leaned towards Gwen and whispered. "And with her killer arrested, she's bound to be."
Gwen smiled and nodded, wiping her tears as she mourned her father's right-hand, as Peter took her hand to comfort her.
They all turned as a Hurst pulled up outside the graveyard, before a man opened up the back, showing Jean DeWolff's coffin, then Capt. Stacy, Sgt. Davis, Lt. Watanabe, and three other Cops approached it, and pulled it at, as they were the pallbearers. As they approached the tombstone over the open grave, which read 'Lt. Jean DeWolff, beloved daughter, friend, and one of the finest Cops in New York, 1989-2023', a man began to play bagpipes, before they stopped near the grave, then put the coffin down. All the Cops and CSI's saluted, before Capt. Stacy, Lt. Watanabe, Sgt. Davis and the other pallbearers took off the flag around the coffin, and Sgt. Davis then folded it up, before he handed it to the Commissioner.
"I'm sorry, sir." he said.
"Thank you, Sgt." Commissioner DeWolff said sadly.
He cried slightly, as Lt. Watanabe approached the coffin, as she was giving the eulogy.
"Jean DeWolff was one of - if not - my best friend on the force. We may not have always seen eye-to-eye with everything, but she was my friend." she began. "We shared the same rank, and had the honor of serving in the same precinct for years together. Whenever we weren't on duty, we'd always hand out and talk about life, both before and after we'd joined the force. When I first joined, she helped me fit in and helped me get accepted by many, and I'll be forever grateful for that. Jean's parents devoiced when she was young, and she and her brother Brain had to divide their time between them both, but despite that, she remained close with both."
Peter turned slightly, seeing a woman who looked a lot like Lt. DeWolff, who was crying softly, while seeing a brown-haired man who had the same eye color as her wrap his arm around her.
"Guess that's Brain and her mother." he thought.
"Her father, Commissioner Philip DeWolff was her role model, who inspired her to be a Cop, despite her mother's disapproval." Lt. Watanabe continued. "She was kind, but determined, and never backed down from a job once she got her badge, no matter what risk was to her life. She even trusted people outside the force from the start to help while I had to learn the hard way about that."
The four Spiders lowered their heads slightly, knowing she was referring to them, especially Peter and Gwen as she'd come around before Miles and Anya got their powers.
"She was well-liked at the precinct, and we all liked her, as we're like a family. We'll never know what her last thoughts were, due to her being alone at the time, but I can imagine it was about what she was gonna do at work the next day. She was..." Lt. Watanabe continued, as she began to cry. "I'm gonna miss her a lot. You've earned your rest, my friend. Rest in peace, Jean."
She turned and walked back to her seat, wiping her eyes as she did, while Capt. Stacy, Sgt. Davis, Ray Cooper, Julie Willows and a few other Cops and CSI's cried, while Peter and Gwen turned to each other.
"I didn't think Lt. Watanabe could be so emotional." Gwen whispered.
"Neither did I." Peter whispered. "From how I've always seen her, I thought she was cold. Guess she only is on duty."
The man with the bagpipes began to play again, as the coffin lowered itself into the ground, while all the Cops and CSI's saluted the coffin. As this happened, seven Cops fired three shots into the air each, which was annual for a Cop or soldier's funeral.
A little later, outside the graveyard, the Parkers stood with the Stacy's, while Miles and Anya stood nearby, with their fathers and Rio standing together nearby with Lt. Watanabe.
"How you holding up, George?" Aunt May asked.
"I'm okay, just sad to say goodbye to Jean." Capt. Stacy sighed. "You doing okay."
"Yeah, it's just-" Aunt May began.
"That's the second funeral we've been too in six weeks." Peter sighed.
Capt. Stacy looked puzzled, while the others understood.
"My foster parents, sir." Teresa explained.
"Oh, you're Teresa?" Capt. Stacy assumed, as she nodded. "Sorry I haven't had a chance to meet you before."
"I understand, sir." Teresa said. "Gwen's told me your job can be a handful, being a Police Captain."
Capt. Stacy smiled slightly.
"You know, I can remember finding Uncle Ben's body and Lt. DeWolff telling me the bad news." Peter sighed.
"She was the one who told you, bro?" Teresa asked.
"Yes." Peter confirmed.
Gwen touched his shoulder to comfort him.
"I take it everyone on the force is upset about her loss, Captain?" Anya asked.
"Well, most." Capt. Stacy replied.
He pointed to his right, making them all turn, to see the Commissioner arguing with his ex-wife, while their son tried to step between them.
"This is all your fault!" the woman snapped. "If you'd taken another job, Jean might not have ended up like this, and maybe she'd still be alive!"
"Celia, it was Jean's choice to follow my footsteps." the Commissioner argued.
"Yeah, and look what's happened to her!" Celia snarled. "She's dead now!"
"Mom, dad, stop!" Brain snapped.
"Stay out of this, Brian!" Celia snapped. "I don't ever wanna see you again, Philip! The reason I left you is due to how dangerous your life is, and I didn't want my children ending up like you!"
"Celia, please? You know how much I'll miss her too." the Commissioner said. "Besides, she was killed by being sympathetic towards criminals, just like the rest of Sin-Eater's victims."
"I don't care! Brian and I are leaving New York and never coming back!" Celia snapped. "I wish I never met you sometimes, espically now."
She turned and walked off, as Brain turned to his father.
"I'm sorry, dad. I know you didn't cause Jean's death, but... I have to go with mom." Brain said.
He turned and walked off as the Commissioner stared at them.
"Guess they couldn't stand the danger of his job like my parents do." Miles deduced.
"Or mine." Gwen sighed. "I know my mom never let dad's job get in the way of their love."
Peter pulled her in for a side hug, making her turn and smile, when Jameson came over to them all.
"Did you get the recording I sent you, Capt., where Sin-Eater told me why he killed those people?" Jameson asked.
"Yes." Capt. Stacy sighed. "That'll be enough to convict Carter."
"I'm still shocked to discover who did all this." Jameson admitted.
"You're not the only one, Mr. Jameson." Capt. Stacy assured. "One of our own on a killing spree. It's disgraceful to the force."
Peter and Gwen walked off slightly, with Miles and Anya right behind them, before they four turned to each other.
"So, is Sin-Eater locked up?" Anya asked.
"Not sure. Still waiting on Murdock's word." Peter sighed, when his phone beeped.
"Talk of a devil." Miles joked.
Peter took his phone out of his pocket, and saw it was a text from Matt Murdock, as the other Spiders gathered around him.
"'Sin-Eater's locked up, but his trial won't be til late September. I'll let you know if I find anything else. DD'."
The four Spiders sighed with relief.
"At least he won't come back." Gwen said.
"Hopefully, he'll be locked up forever so he can't kill anyone else." Peter hoped.
"And if he gets the death penalty, I bet he'll regret killing Reverend Finn." Anya added.
"Touche." Miles agreed.
All four of them walked over to their families, before they everyone left the graveyard, mourning Lt. Jean DeWolff.
A/N: I meant what I said about this season being darker, and Jean DeWolff is only the first character to die. I won't tell you who else as you have to wait, but I will tell you this, I have no intention of killing Gwen off in my world, but that's all I'm saying.
