"What the hell was that? Why did you give her your name?" Lucy hissed, astonished. Cobra closed his eye and let out a deep breath. This was weird. This was seriously weird.
"It doesn't matter. I think I know why people have been acting strange…she wasn't quite herself there."
Lucy looked at him quizzically. "I mean….she did seem off. Like she was in a daze. Has she been charmed? But that doesn't affect the soul, right?"
Cobra shook his head. "It's not that. Charm spells are like a layer above the soul, they influence people's emotions but would never be able to affect the deepest levels. No…Minerva was hollow, Lucy."
"Hollow? Like a shell of herself? But she recognized me, and we even could talk for a little bit…"
"She recognized you, but she didn't attach any emotions to you. Which is odd, because of your….history." Lucy bit her lip and looked like she wanted to say something, but he continued. "And it wasn't like she didn't give a damn about it. When I heard her earlier this week I'd say the top emotion she was experiencing was guilt. I'm guessing she never apologized to you? If that's the case, and this is the first time meeting her in a while, don't you think that's pretty awkward?"
"It was…odd, how she looked at me. Not like I was nothing but…."
"…Like your connection was nothing," Cobra chimed in. "She didn't feel guilty but she also didn't feel not guilty. Almost like she couldn't remember your past at all. She paused so often because she couldn't describe what you were to her. Whatever history you had is suddenly completely and totally irrelevant to her. And that's not all."
