The next morning Chloe woke and checked her phone. She noticed that she had a new text message, but that wasn't the surprising part, it was from Beca. Chloe sat for a few minutes just staring at the notification, Beca had barely answered her while she was away, why did she reach out now. Not that Chloe minded, she really missed the short brunette and was thrilled but also just stunned. Finally, she opened the message:

Hope you made it home safely. Miss you.

That is all it said but it warmed Chloe's heart. She hit reply and she debated about what she wanted to send back to her. After several minutes Chloe just thought she was being silly and typed a normal response back.

[To Beca]

I did thank you. I miss you too, when are you coming to visit. There is so much I need to catch you up on.

Chloe thought that was a good enough message and sent it to Beca. She went about her day; it was Wednesday, and she started vet school on Monday. She decided she needed to shop for her books, and other things she might need to school. So, she got dressed and went about her day.

Meanwhile, Beca woke up and checked her phone. She had so many notifications but most of them were the same, sending her a link to a website that took a picture of Beca and Jesse catching up the other day. Beca called Theo, "Hey Beca, I was wondering when you were going to call." He said on the other end of the line. "Theo what is this nonsense? I caught up with an old friend for coffee. I am not dating him; we are just friends." Beca quickly rushed out.

"No worries Beca, what would you like for us to say in a statement to release to the media." Theo said having been through this a few times with other celebrities. "Can you just put a statement out that said we are friends that we were just catching up. He has a girlfriend, and I am single and happy." Beca answered.

"Well, based on the songs you were singing and wrote I would say you are in love, but if you say you're single I will release that statement as soon as possible." Theo reassured her, and Beca let out a long sigh. "I don't want to talk about my love life but what the public needs to know is that I am single." Beca answered wanting to end this conversation.

"Alright superstar, I am going to get this statement released, and I will see you in the studio in an hour." Theo said and hung up the phone. Beca finished checking her messaged and saw she had one from Chloe. She read the message and deflated. Thinking to herself Chloe probably wants to talk about Chicago and I don't want to hear about that.

[To Chloe]

Can't visit for a while, busy working on the album. Hope you had a fun trip; we will catch up when we can.

Beca sent it before she had any chance to overthink it. She got a shower to wake herself up, dressed and then headed to the studio. She picked up a coffee on her way, so she was a little late. Nothing Theo wasn't used to by now.

The two worked on one of the songs Beca sang yesterday for most of the day. "Okay we need to take a break from singing, let's switch gears and focus on what other songs to put on the album." Beca said exasperated and grabbing her water. Theo agreed and they worked on another potential song for the album.

They worked on it until about midnight and called it a night. "Alright I'm done for the night, same time tomorrow?" Beca said to Theo, and he agreed. On Beca's way home she checked her phone she noticed Chloe never responded. She didn't let it bother her and just ignored the pang of hurt in her heart about it, even though she knew it was her fault that the conversation ended.
