Everybody in the office was stunned, and Ross was surprised Beca seemed calm, but he knew better. He turned to the two other women and said "Uh, excuse me for a minute, I need to check on my girlfriend." Then Ross walked out of the building and found Beca around the corner about to have a breakdown.
He was approaching her carefully because he didn't fully know what to expect. As he got closer, he heard Beca murmur "of all the fucking places in this gosh damn world, I had to run into her here. Why couldn't she be in a different state? What the fuck is she doing here."
Beca was pacing back and forth, once in a while she would bend over like she was about to hurl. Ross came over and put his hand on her back when she was hunched over. "Take a deep breath, you don't have to go back in there, if you want, we can just leave" he said seriously.
"No, no you found a dog you really like; you should adopt her. I just might wait in the car; I really don't want to see Chloe again." Beca replied to Ross, he understood and told her he wouldn't be much longer. Once he came back inside, he only saw the receptionist and the dog he was getting ready to adopt.
"Can I fill out those papers and go?" Ross asked the receptionist, and she nodded her head. She had no idea what was going on but could tell he wanted to leave immediately. She figures she would ask her boss about it when they left. Ross filled out the paperwork as quickly as he could, paid the lady and just as he was about to leave Chloe came back out.
She walked over to Ross and didn't know exactly what to say, so she looked down at the dog he just adopted. "Take good care of her, she is a wonderful dog, but the previous owners were too busy for her" was all Chloe was able to say. "Uh thanks." Ross replied back confused on why Chloe even came back out. As he was walking towards the door Chloe said one more thing.
"Tell Beca I'm sorry about what happened all those years ago. I owe her an explanation as well as an apology and if she wants to hear it tell her to give me a call." Chloe then boldly handed the man a piece of paper with her number on it. Ross was reluctant to take it after knowing everything that has happened, but figured it was Beca's call to make not his. So, he took the piece of paper and left.
Chloe watched as he and the dog left, she couldn't move her mind still replaying seeing Beca after that one night four years ago. Her receptionist came over and cleared her throat. "So, are you going to tell me what happened between you and those people?" she asked Chloe. "The woman and I used to be best friends until we had a falling out four years ago. I haven't seen her since, well until today as you saw. Honestly, I don't really want to talk about it." Chloe finished and the two went back to work in silence.
Meanwhile Ross hopped into the car with the new dog. He still didn't know what to call her but figured he has a little bit before settling on a name. He turned his head towards Beca and noticed she was zoned out. "Do you want to talk about what just happened?" he asked Beca. "No, not really I don't think I'm in a good enough headspace to try and talk this out" Beca replied.
"Well take all the time you need; she did however give me this piece of paper to give to you. She said she owed you an explanation as well as an apology." Ross handed Beca the piece of paper with her number on it.
Beca stared at it and even if she didn't see Chloe, she would know her handwriting anywhere. The paper had her number and a little note on it. Please Beca don't throw this away. Give me a chance to explain. Chloe. Beca thought long and hard about what to do and Ross noticed this.
"I think you should hear her out. Not to give her any satisfaction but to give you a piece of mind and closure. You said so yourself when you told me about it that you don't know why she flipped out. She said hurtful things, but this is your chance to know why. It might do you some good to have that information then you can close the chapter on that part of your life." Ross admitted to her.
"I have moved on from her, and that chapter of my life." Beca said defensively, but she knows deep down she hadn't moved on from that, it was still something that bothered her. They were best friends, it was a drunken night where they slept together, Beca didn't think it was that awful. But Chloe's reaction to it was really out of character for her and it really hurt Beca's feeling.
The rest of the ride was quiet as Beca was lost in her thoughts. Ross just allowed Beca all the time in the world to think, because he figured it was a big deal. He pulled up to Beca's apartment and the two exchanged good-byes.
Beca walked into her apartment and changed her clothes. She grabbed herself a beer and listened to music. That was how she would unwind from the day. Typically, she would have one or two beers, but with seeing Chloe today she was thinking two won't be enough to take the edge off.
Beca was on her third beer and found the piece of paper with Chloe's number on it. She decided to put it in her drawer so she never had to see it again.
