Four days later, in the outskirts of Vandermar Village on the Plaguelands, the lich Kel'Thuzad and the flesh beast Gorerot prepare themselves in launching a massive attack against the stronghold of the Forsaken in the city. The Scourge forces have established their camp on the northern hill in the same site where Sylvanas and Varimathras used to have a base when they clashed against Detheroc and Garithos. The defenses of the Forsaken stronghold are strong and it is being watch over by the dreadlord Varimathras. There are multiple Forsaken undead bases within the village that are being defended by various Forsaken undead as well as several remaining demon minions of Varimathras.

Kel'Thuzad: "So this is one of major holdouts of Sylvanas in this region. This is the village where the dreadlord Varimathras first aided Sylvanas in taking over the Plaguelands by betrayed his own kin, Detheroc. Now, Varimathras rules over this town and his defenses within it are strong. Clearly, we can only win through heavy attrition. We must prepare a full force of warriors to destroy them."

Gorerot: "Gorerot crush weak rebels! Gorerot no fear ghost elf! Kill dead rebels for mighty King!"

Kel'Thuzad: "You shall have your chance to fight, Gorerot. I will let you have the first kill for you shall lead the attack in the village, but we must do so carefully. Our foes are all restless and vigilant. The Forsaken are aware of our presence here. They have prepared for our coming by securing their defenses especially in the front gate, but not in the side gate to the far west across the river. Gorerot, I need you to lead an attack from that side while rest of us in here would distract them in the front."

Gorerot: "Gorerot hears and obeys. Gorerot must go lead warriors. Us go rend and tear rebel fools!"

Kel'Thuzad: "They will not be expecting you at the side, Gorerot. All their attention is fixed here."

Gorerot and a strong squad of undead warriors proceed to the west across the river bridge and then head due south until they reach the western side entrance to the town. Along the way, Gorerot and his undead warriors encountered some wild hostile sasquatches that came out of some caves in the wilderness as well as some golems along the main road upon the west. Meanwhile back at the base of the Scourge, Kel'Thuzad musters his own undead army that he shall bring with him in an attack upon the main frontal gate of Vandermar. The forces of the Scourge consist of ghouls, crypt fiends, necromancers and meat wagons. Upon reaching the western side gate of the town, Gorerot and his undead troops shatter the gate down and fight the few Forsaken undead that are defending the west entrance. Gorerot and his warriors easily destroy the defenders and successfully infiltrate the town. Sensing the success of Gorerot at the west, Kel'Thuzad prepares for a full force assault at the front.

Gorerot: "Us now inside village! Must defeat enemies! Gorerot slay and rend weakling Forsaken!"

Kel'Thuzad: "It seems Gorerot succeeded. My diversion plan worked perfectly. It is now our turn."

There are multiple small undead Forsaken outposts within the village. The outposts are on the sites of the former Alliance bases of Garithos in the town. The main stronghold of Varimathras is at the southeastern part of the town in the same sites of the former undead camps of Detheroc. The camps of the Forsaken are protected by undead such as ghouls, abominations, crypt fiends, necromancers, and banshees. The demonic minions of Varimathras reinforce the Forsaken with several hellhound patrols roaming along the streets in various areas of town and some doomguards guarding the main bases of Varimathras. The northern front gates are guarded elite groups of undead and few demons. There are also several undead spirit towers built by the Forsaken in defense of the main front gates.

Meanwhile, Gorerot and his undead squad head further inwards the village and launch an attack at the first nearby undead outpost located on one of the former Alliance bases of Garithos in the town. Upon seeing the forces of Gorerot, one of the Forsaken acolytes attempted to flee and head for the stronghold of Varimathras to warn him about the unexpected presence of the Scourge in the village. The Flesh Beast Gorerot immediately uses his skills to slay the acolyte runner before he can escape. After killing the runner, Gorerot and his troops proceed to battle the rest of the Forsaken defenders.

Acolyte (Runner): "What? Our foes have managed to get here?! We must alert Lord Varimathras!"

Gorerot: "Puny acolyte no escape! Big Forsaken army must no see us! Must crush them now fast!"

After a short time of battle, Gorerot and his warriors defeated the Forsaken defenders and destroyed their outpost while losing only a few troops. Gorerot and his warriors had a quite easy battle in the first Forsaken outpost and successfully prevented their runner from alerting the rest of the Forsaken forces of Varimathras. Gorerot and his troops proceed to the northern road and encountered several hellhounds that are patrolling along the road at the center of the town. Gorerot and his troops have position themselves behind the Forsaken defenders of the main gates as they wait for the right time to attack. Meanwhile Kel'Thuzad and the rest of his undead army move against the front gates and launch a full force attack against the gate defenders. Upon seeing Kel'Thuzad and his forces launch an assault from the outside of the gates, Gorerot and his warriors also launch their aggressive attack from behind the line of enemy defenders. Having surrounded by the Scourge from the outside and inside, the Forsaken defenders fell quickly against the full army of Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot. After defeating the gate defenders, the Scourge army also razed the Forsaken spirit towers near the gates. Gorerot and his warriors have reunited with the rest of the forces of Kel'Thuzad within Vandermar.

Kel'Thuzad: "You have done well, Gorerot. We have gone through their defenses, and entered the town. Now, we must find Varimathras, and crush him along with the rest of his troops in this city."

Altogether, the full undead army led by Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot proceed to assault the other small Forsaken outpost inside the village, which is located on the other former Alliance base of Garithos. Just like with the first outpost, another acolyte from the second outpost had tried to flee to the main Forsaken bases to warn Varimathras about the Scourge presence inside of the town. However, both Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot have noticed the fleeing acolyte that would alert Varimathras. In the midst of the battle, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot manage to slay the acolyte before he could have even escape.

Acolyte (Runner): "The enemies of the Dark Lady are here! Master Varimathras must be warned!"

Gorerot: "You go nowhere, small acolyte! You stay and die here! We rend and tear all you, rebels!"

The Scourge forces easily defeat the Forsaken defenders and destroy their second outpost. Gorerot and Kel'Thuzad rally their warriors and finally head to the main Forsaken stronghold in the village. Heading to the eastern side of town, the Scourge army launch an aggressive full force attack against the undead camps of Varimathras. A heavy war battle occurs between the Undead Scourge and the Forsaken armies. The unsuspecting Varimathras is surprised to see that the Scourge forces are now inside of Vandermar Village and directly assaulting his main stronghold. The dreadlord rallies his undead and demon minions in defense against the undead warriors led by Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot.

Varimathras: "What?! The cursed servants of the Lich King managed to break through the defenses of our gates! Strike back, my warriors! Drive them back from our town! Strike for the Dark Lady!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Your defenses are strong, but not impenetrable. I see now why you were beaten and outwitted by Sylvanas. A pity. I thought you Nathrezim were among the smartest demons to exist."

The army of Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot fiercely clash against the forces of Varimathras. In the midst of the heavy battle, Varimathras casts his demonic powers against the Scourge. The dreadlord casts his Rain of Fire spell to harm and burn various Scourge warriors, and casts his dark Sleep spell to put Kel'Thuzad or Gorerot to a trance-like sleep state. Varimathras also exudes a magical demonic aura called Vampiric Aura, which enables him and his melee warriors to gain life with every attack. Finally, the dreadlord casts his most powerful fiery spell of Doom, which severely burns an enemy warrior to death and then magically spawns a doomguard out from the ashes. With the great powers of Varimathras and the fortified defenses of the Forsaken, the army of the Scourge are having quite a challenge in the heavy battle. However, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot would not be defeated so easily. The lich and the flesh beast use each of their own dark powers to battle against the Forsaken forces.

Kel'Thuzad uses his dark icy power to cast Frost Nova against the Forsaken warriors, which is an explosion of frost that harms and briefly incapacitates them by its freezing ice. The Lich also casts his Frost Armor spell that encases him and his own troops with a protective ice armor. On the other hand, Gorerot is a strong powerhouse hero of the undead that also has foul toxic gaseous and slimy acidic plague-based powers that he casts against his enemies. Due to the combine skills and powers of both Ke'Thuzad and Gorerot, the forces of the Scourge are able to gain the advantage in the war battle. After a while of heavy battle, the Scourge forces managed to claim the victory for they were able to defeat the Forsaken warriors and raze their entire stronghold. Despite losing a considerable number of troops, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot successfully defeat the Forsaken in Vandermar Village.

With his stronghold and warriors gone, the bloodied and exhausted Varimathras is now on the run out of the town in a desperate attempt to escape from the Scourge forces that are pursuing him. As the dreadlord was about the exit the village at the western gate, he was suddenly met and ambushed by the returning death knight Baron Titus Rivendare and his group of undead troops. Cornered by both the forces of Baron Rivendare and by the forces of Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot from behind him, Varimathras is now trapped and has no way of escaping from the clutches of the Scourge. Hopeless and completely surrounded, the dreadlord only thinks of his inevitable death by the Scourge forces.

Varimathras: "No! Our stronghold has fallen! I must return to the Capital City and warn Sylvanas!"

Titus: "I do not think so, demon! You are not going anywhere, dreadlord! You shall not pass me!"

Varimathras: "What the?! No!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Ah, Titus! You have finally returned! We have been expecting you, death knight."

Titus: "Yes, Kel'Thuzad, and with me are our roaming warriors that I have found and rallied from Andorhal and Brill. Our forces are vast and stronger. Now, it seems my timing in here is just right."

Kel'Thuzad: "Indeed. You have bolstered our armies and returned in time just as we destroyed the Forsaken here. We have the upper hand. Now, our dreadlord companion here has nowhere to run."

Varimathras: "Damn you, cursed undead! This cannot be! I must not fall here! Not to the Scourge!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Yet, you had already been beaten, Varimathras. You cannot possibly win against all of us here, and your mistress, Sylvanas, is not here to aid you, nor will she even come now, is she? However, in this case, we are giving you a chance to negotiate with us. Instead of slaying you now, we will give you a second chance to live if you agree to aid us in defeating Sylvanas, Varimathras."

Titus: "We know all about you, demon, upon how you sided with Sylvanas in order for her to spare you after she had defeated and cornered you. As of now, we are simply giving you the same offer."

Varimathras: "What trickery is this? You all want me to betray Sylvanas, and help you defeat her?"

Titus: "Do not be surprised by this offer, dreadlord. If you willingly betrayed your own kin to save yourself then, why would you hold any loyalty to her if betraying her means saving your life now?"

Kel'Thuzad: "Yes, Varimathras. By all means, we could have already killed you by now and move on with our quest to defeat Sylvanas, and with our full armies, we can do such. However, there is a particular reason why we ask you to help us. You are exactly who we need for the job, dreadlord."

Varimathras: "Unbelievable! This has to be trick! What could you all possibly even need me for?!"

At that moment, a magical vision of the Lich King suddenly shows up right in front of Varimathras. The dreadlord is surprised to once again see Arthas who is now fully merged with Ner'zhul as the Lich King himself. Having shown himself once again in the open, the warriors of the Scourge pay respect to their master as he begins to speak directly with the dreadlord. The Lich King then reveals to Varimathras the real reason why they are recruiting him to their side in the war against Sylvanas.

Lich King: "Only you possess the power so that I can fulfill my own plan for Sylvanas, dreadlord."

Varimathras: "Who the?!"

Titus: "My king, you have shown up at last. It is a great honor to bask in your presence once more."

Kel'Thuzad: "We did as you wished, my king. The dreadlord is spared, and is yours to speak with."

Lich King: "You have all done well, my servants. I shall take it from here. Greetings, Varimathras. It has been a long time since we last met. How the mighty dreadlord have fallen to a mere banshee."

Varimathras: "Arthas! Or perhaps should I say, Ner'zhul? The servant finally became one with his master. Soul of Ner'zhul inside the mind and body of Arthas. So, what is it do you want from me?"

Lich King: "I wish to make a deal with you, dreadlord. Though we had our differences in the past, I believe that we can all benefit if you aid us defeat Sylvanas. My forces can deal with her and her armies, but once she is down, I need someone that can bring her directly to me here on Northrend."

Varimathras: "I see. You intend to defeat her, but not to kill her. You seek to reclaim her and make her serve you once again. Is that it, Arthas? You intend to make her be a part of the Scourge again."

Lich King: "Indeed. Sylvanas proved to be stronger and more cunning than any of us have thought. She would definitely be very useful to me once I take control of her mind and will again. You have the power to channel a portal and teleport her to me, Varimathras. Do this, dreadlord, and not only will your life be spared, but I also guarantee you that you will be rewarded greatly. What say you?"

Varimathras: "Your words are convincing, but give me a reason of why I should trust you, Arthas?"

Lich King: "I know you, Varimathras. I know you choose only to be in the winning side. You have no true loyalty to Sylvanas, and deep down, you even wish to overthrow her and take revenge after she forced you to kill your own brother despite already proving yourself to her. Sylvanas does not truly trust you either, and you know this, dreadlord. Should you aid us defeat her and bring her to me, you will be freed from her control, and you shall have a new great glory. I swear it, dreadlord!"

Varimathras: "Very well, Arthas. You have read my thoughts and desire for revenge on her. I shall agree to this deal. I shall reveal where the rest of her forces are based, and then, teleport her to you once you defeat her in the Capital City. But be warned of her wits, she might figure out that I have betrayed her, and so it would be wise if we had her convinced to believing that I am already gone."

Lich King: "So be it! My servants will continue the battle against Sylvanas while you hide yourself until it is the right time to show up. I guarantee that you will not regret this pact, Varimathras. You made a wise decision to join my side, dreadlord. The Forsaken shall fall by my wrath, and Sylvanas would soon serve the Scourge in my name once again! Kel'Thuzad, Titus, Gorerot; see it all done!"

At that moment, the magical psychic vision of the Lich King dissipated as Arthas finally ended his telepathic conversation with Varimathras and his majordomos. The dreadlord talks about the other major Forsaken stronghold of Sylvanas, which is located in the borders of the Plaguelands and the Tirisfal Glades. Varimathras recalls the base as the first camp of Sylvanas when he first fought her after trying to recruit her to the side of the dreadlords. After learning what they need to know from the dreadlord, Kel'Thuzad, Baron Rivendare, and Gorerot made their preparations for the next war battle ahead. Varimathras has been spared as promised, and has been let go to flee into hiding. Just as they had planned, the Scourge would imply to the Forsaken that Varimathras is already dead on his disappearance. With their plan at hand, the Scourge is one step closer to defeating the Forsaken.
