Early the next day, a sole surviving banshee, which came from the ruined Forsaken base of Captain Areiel and somehow escaped from the Scourge, arrives at the Lordaeron Capital City. The banshee immediately goes to Sylvanas to report everything that have happened recently regarding their war against the Scourge. Despite being aware with their current dire situation in the war, Sylvanas still believes that they can defeat the Scourge with her past success of overcoming the odds against her. However, the surviving banshee reports about the ill news regarding the loss of the strongholds on the Plaguelands and as well as the fall of Kitala Starshadow, Captain Areiel, and even Varimathras.

Banshee: "Mistress Sylvanas! I have reached you at last! There is something that you must know!"

Sylvanas: "Where have you come from, sister? What news do you bring me?"

Banshee: "Mistress, I bring you ill news! Unfortunately, we have lost all our outlying bases on the Plaguelands! The Scourge armies are vast and they have overwhelmed us! Lady Kitala and Captain Areiel were both killed by the agents of Arthas, and even Lord Varimathras also fell in Vandermar! We did our best to defend our bastions, but they had defeated us! I barely even managed to escape."

Sylvanas: "What?! They have conquered our strongholds? Damn it! They even slain Kitala, Areiel, and even my servant, Varimathras! Curse them! How was this possible, sister? How did they break through to our defenses?! I cannot believe that Lich Kel'Thuzad was able to do this all by himself!"

Banshee: "Your pardon, mistress, but their forces are stronger than before. It seems Kel'Thuzad is not only one who is commanding the Scourge. There is also a death knight fanatic of Arthas named Titus Rivendare who also is leading their warriors with him, and the most curious of all is that they have created a new kind of strong and powerful monster that also leads their army alongside them."

Sylvanas: "A new kind of monster?!"

Banshee: "Yes, mistress. I believe they call it Flesh Beast. The creature is much larger and stronger than the ordinary abomination. It even possesses some dark power that no mere abomination could have. We fought against one of it, mistress, and because of it, the Scourge wiped out our ogre and assassin servants, which unfortunately also led them to attacking and destroying our bases as well."

Sylvanas: "Damn it! Curse them all and their new vile creations! This stops now! I shall not let the Scourge take everything that we have fought for! I already once fell before Arthas and the Scourge, and it will never happen again! They cost me my life, my people, and my home. Now, this kingdom is all ours! The Scourge may have conquered the Plaguelands, but they must not take this city! We must further strengthen and ensure our defenses! Prepare our armies! We must holdout against the Scourge, and defeat them all from where they stand! We won against all odds before by taking this land from the dreadlords! Now, we must win again by defending it against the servants of Arthas!"

Having already heard about the defeat of her forces in the Plaguelands, Sylvanas musters all of her standing troops in the Capital City and prepares them for a soon upcoming war against the Scourge. Sylvanas secures her stronghold with stronger fortified defensive towers and line up of troops than with the former original defenses of the dreadlord Balnazzar on the city. Sylvanas assigns her two strongest and most skilled dark ranger followers, Alina and Loralen, to watch over the other camps of the Forsaken surrounding the main stronghold of the city. Having failed to defend her homeland against the Scourge before, Sylvanas and her army shall give their all in battling the Scourge forces and to solidify the position of the Forsaken as the dominant ruler of Lordaeron and the Plaguelands.

However, unbeknownst to Sylvanas and her Forsaken troops, the lich Kel'Thuzad and a small band of Scourge warriors secretly observe their move on the Capital City from the shadows. Kel'Thuzad already heard about the recent victory of Titus and Gorerot, and he now expects their coming soon. Upon doing some subtle scouting with several shades that safely roam around the city, the Scourge know that only with heavy attrition can they destroy the fortified defenses of Sylvanas. Kel'Thuzad also makes an intriguing discovery of some new mutated undead warriors lurking in the wilderness somewhere near the city. The shades of Kel'Thuzad found a group of huge mutated zombies called plague eruptors are lurking. The plague eruptors are stronger and faster than ghouls, and also have myriad pulsing nodules on their rotting skins, which toxic plague festers and bursts. Upon making the discovery, Kel'Thuzad plans to find and recruit the plague eruptors to use against the Forsaken.
