Suddenly, to make things even worse for Sylvanas, another party of Scourge warriors emerge from the portal that are led by several other flesh beasts. Sylvanas has now lost all hopes and chances to escape as she is now completely surrounded by the Scourge warriors on all sides. However, in the biggest and unexpected twist for Sylvanas, her major lieutenant and demonic servant, the dreadlord Varimathras, comes out last from the portal and reveals himself to be alive after all this time. Upon showing himself once more to the Dark Lady, Varimathras stands behind the newly arrived undead group and openly reveals to Sylvanas that he had joined sides with the Scourge and aided them on bringing her and the Forsaken down. Varimathras is also responsible for channeling the portal, and bringing the new group of Undead Scourge troops to prevent her to escape. The dark ranger quickly realizes that she had been betrayed by her own former servant and major lieutenant in the Forsaken.
Sylvanas: "Damn it! This cannot be! No!"
Varimathras: "You best stay put at where you stand, Lady Sylvanas. You are not going anywhere."
Sylvanas: "What the?! Varimathras?! It cannot be! How is this possible?!"
Varimathras: "It has been a while, my lady. You thought I was already gone before. Now, we meet again, and it seems things have not gone well for you. Here you stand alone, helpless and defeated."
Sylvanas: "Damn you, dreadlord! You, you did this! It was you who revealed our defenses to them! You betrayed me! You doomed us all! You ruined everything we have fought for, you foul traitor!"
Varimathras: "Come now, we both know that we never fully trusted each other. I betrayed my own brothers and defected to you for you have greater strength than them. I am always with the winning side even if I must go against my own kin, but things are now different with the Scourge. They are more powerful than all of us combined, even with our tough defenses entrenched upon these lands. Their armies are larger than ours, and they are stronger than ever before. Like you, they also spared me, and in exchange, they asked my aid to defeat you, and so I did. Now, we have the upper hand."
Sylvanas: "Damn! I should have known better than to have kept a foul demon scum like you alive! A traitor is always a traitor! I should have killed you just like your brothers when I had the chance!"
Varimathras: "Perhaps you should have, milady. To tell you, I find it to be more beneficial to side with them than you. They have not only spared my life, but also, by helping them on your downfall, I shall even be rewarded for it. A far better fate than being a personal lowly slave to a banshee elf."
Sylvanas: "Is that so, Varimathras? Now that I am defeated, now that the Forsaken had fallen, now that I had lost everything, I suppose you came here to personally witness me get finished by them."
Titus: "Foolish banshee. If we truly wanted you gone then you would not be still standing here and having this conversation, Sylvanas. We could have all simply ended you back on the Capital City."
Kel'Thuzad: "Yes. There is a reason why we have not finished you up to now, Sylvanas. The first phase of our main goal is to retake these lands from you, and dismantle your Forsaken. The second phase, by the orders of the master, is to capture you and make you one with us once more, Sylvanas. You have grown much stronger than any of us ever thought, and even on this war, you really gave us a great challenge. You would do well to serve the Lich King and be a part of the Scourge again."
Sylvanas: "What?! After everything that I have suffered from the Scourge, after everything Arthas did to me, after all the pain and horror that each one of you caused to me, my people, and my home of Quel'thalas, do you seriously think that I would willingly become a slave of the Scourge again?! No! Never again! I shall never become one with you ever again! I would gladly just end my torment and die a second time here rather than become a wretched paltry slave of the Lich King ever again!"
Titus: "Your refusal is irrelevant, Sylvanas. It is not about your own will; it is about the will of the Lich King! You shall serve him and fight for the Scourge once more one way or another, Sylvanas. With his power, he raised you into the banshee that you are today, and so you shall submit to him!"
At that moment, Varimathras uses his Sleep spell on Sylvanas to put her in a trance-like sleep state. The flesh beasts that arrived with Varimathras entangle Sylvanas with their chain hooks from their disproportionate limbs to completely incapacitate her. The Dark Lady cannot move on her own as she stands in a daze and is tangled in chain by the flesh beasts. The portal that Varimathras conjured directly leads to Icecrown Glacier of Northrend where the Lich King awaits on the other side. The other agents of the Scourge bid farewell to Sylvanas as she is about to be brought to Arthas through the shimmering portal while the rest of them shall remain behind to rule and watch over Lordaeron.
Varimathras: "Now, my lady, it is time that I bring you to him. He waits for you on the other side."
Sylvanas: "No… Varimathras…"
Titus: "It is time for you to go, Sylvanas, and it looks like that this is the last time we will see you!"
Kel'Thuzad: "We bid you farewell, Dark Lady. Now that your entire Forsaken is finished, we shall take it from here to rule over this kingdom and the whole of Plaguelands in the honor of our king!"
Varimathras crosses through his magical portal and closely behind him are the flesh beasts that are dragging the captured Sylvanas through the portal. Upon crossing through, they directly arrived at the dark throne chamber of the Lich King in the heart of the Scourge fortress of Icecrown. Standing in the middle of the dark chamber is Arthas who is expecting Varimathras with Sylvanas. The dark ranger quickly becomes enraged and upon meeting Arthas once again, and she is also surprised to see him now merged with the vile spirit of Ner'zhul and has already become the Lich King himself.
Lich King: "You have done well, Varimathras! You have brought Sylvanas to me as I wished! As promised, I shall uphold my end of the bargain for you shall be fittingly rewarded for your service."
Varimathras: "The Dark Lady is all yours, Arthas. I have done my part well. My work is finished."
Sylvanas: "What the?! This cannot be possible! Arthas?! It, it really is you!"
Lich King: "So we meet again, Sylvanas. It has been a while. Many things have changed since our last encounter in the Tirisfal. You nearly had me back then, but now, it is you who stands helpless."
Sylvanas: "I cannot believe it! Arthas, you are still alive! You have become the Lich King yourself! You are even more of a monster now than ever before! Curse you, Arthas, you vile son of a bitch!"
Lich King: "Hahaha! A hollow bravado through paltry harsh words! Do you think that would save you from what shall happen to you? You have been brought to me here as I commanded! You shall soon serve me once again, Sylvanas! You will fight for the Scourge and obey my every command!"
Sylvanas: "To hell with you, Arthas! I shall never become your slave again! You cannot make me even if you torture me! I will gladly just die a second time rather than become one of your wretched servants again, Arthas! You may as well finish it, and give me the permanent death that I deserve!"
Lich King: "Foolish, banshee! You have never learned! As I once told you before, the last thing I will grant you is the peace of eternal death! You shall continue to walk among the living dead as I will make you serve me again! Frostmourne shall retake your mind and soul! Now, with this blade, I command you, Sylvanas, to submit yourself and obey me! You cannot resist my power, Sylvanas! You will fight for the Scourge in my name and will, Sylvanas! Obey as I command you, Sylvanas!"
Sylvanas: "Arggghh! No! Arrggghh! I shall… not submit to you, Arthas! Arrgghh! No!"
Lich King: "Submit to the Frostmourne, serve the Scourge and obey to your king, Sylvanas! Now!"
Arthas pointed his Frostmourne to Sylvanas as it glows blue and emits a dark magic that takes over the mind and will of Sylvanas. The eyes of the dark ranger also glow blue as she tries hard to resist the powers of the Lich King emitting through the blade. However, despite her best efforts to remain strong, Sylvanas inevitably loses her will as she falls under the control of the Lich King once more. After a short while of mental struggle, Arthas completely takes over the mind and soul of Sylvanas. After a time of living as an undead with her own will and freedom, Sylvanas falls under the control of the Lich King once again for she is now a dark ranger who will fight for the Scourge once more.
Sylvanas: "I will… not… submit! I will… Aarrggh! I… I… I… will submit… I… will obey…"
Lich King: "Yes! Yes! Fall to your knees and obey your king, Sylvanas! Serve me as I command!"
Sylvanas: "I… I exist only to serve you, King Arthas. I am yours to command, my king. I will lead your forces, and be a harbinger of your wrath once more. I will fight for the Scourge in your name."
Lich King: "Yes! Indeed, you shall, Sylvanas! Finally, you are once again a warrior of the Scourge, Sylvanas! With your strengths and capabilities, you shall prove to be most useful to me, Sylvanas!"
Sylvanas loses all of her freedom as the Frostmourne now reclaims control over her mind and soul. The undead civil war between the Scourge and the Forsaken had finally ended. The Forsaken have been defeated, and the Scourge have reclaimed the lands of Lordaeron. The Lich King is successful in his plan of retaking control over Sylvanas Windrunner. Any remaining undead warrior from the Forsaken also fell back under command of the Scourge. With the fall of the Forsaken on Lordaeron, the Scourge rule the Capital City and the Plaguelands unopposed. Defeating the Forsaken was only the start of the Scourge dominance. Arthas reveals his dark plans for the next move of the Scourge.
Shortly after, regaining his control over Sylvanas, Arthas, the Lich King, uses his telepathic powers to once again commune with Kel'Thuzad, Gorerot and Baron Rivendare back in Lordaeron. Arthas praises his major lieutenants for their victory against the Forsaken and for their success in bringing Sylvanas to him. The Lich King is also pleased that his rightful kingdom of Lordaeron is under the control of the Scourge once again. With the conflict against the Forsaken now behind them, Arthas instructs Kel'Thuzad, Gorerot, and Baron Rivendare upon a new dire mission of war and conquest.
Lich King: "Hear me, my trusted servants in Lordaeron! I call upon all of you!"
Kel'Thuzad: "My king, you have called us, and we shall answer."
Titus: "I knew you would speak with us again, King Arthas."
Gorerot: "Mighty king calls! Gorerot hears and obeys!"
Lich King: "You have done well, my servants. You have defeated the Forsaken, and reclaimed my rightful land from them. I am mostly pleased in your success for bringing Sylvanas down, and then bringing her to me. She will now fight for us in the Scourge as she is under my control once again."
Kel'Thuzad: "We are proud to do your commands, my king. We claimed this victory in your honor, and with it, Sylvanas is now yours to command and she is finally a part of the Scourge once again."
Titus: "Yes, King Arthas. With the Forsaken gone, we had taken over your kingdom in your name."
Lich King: "Yes. I am pleased of your success and victory there, and so it is time for you to conduct my next plan! Once again, I shall assign you all to a mission of a new conquest and war. This time, I command you all to lead our armies on invading the mortal kingdoms of Stromgarde and Gilneas. Long have those nations evaded the Scourge, it is time that we bring death and destruction to them! They are not safe from my wrath! Both nations of Stromgarde and Gilneas must fall to the Scourge! I command you all to crush their paltry kingdoms, slaughter their people, and conquer their lands!"
Kel'Thuzad: "So you have finally set your sights on the distant nations of Stromgarde and Gilneas, my king. Very well, we shall gladly obey your commands upon leading our armies to conquer both their kingdoms. Like this land, both of Stromgarde and Gilneas shall be scourged from this world."
Titus: "Ah finally, new kingdoms to invade and new foes to fight! We will gladly wage war against those nations, King Arthas! This would be a glorious battle! We will give them all death and ruin!"
Gorerot: "Gorerot obeys mighty king! More flesh to tear! More meat to feast! We slay, rend more!"
Lich King: "See it done, my servants! Let our foes feel our wrath and power in death. Unleash the might of our warriors and crush those pitiful mortal nations! None shall be safe from the Scourge!"
On the south of the ravaged continent of Lordaeron stand the kingdoms of Stromgarde and Gilneas, two of the remaining mighty nations of humanity that have luckily survived from both the demonic and undead invasions during the Third War. Located on far two opposite sides on the southernmost region of the northern continent, Gilneas and Stromgarde serve as the last bastions of hope for the living within the entire northern lands of the Eastern Kingdoms. Having witnessed the destructions of Lordaeron, Quel'thalas, and Dalaran, the standing armies and noble leaders of both nations now do their best to protect their citizens from all potential threats as well as maintaining the peace and serenity of their lands that have not been corrupted by either demonic taint or the plague of undeath. The forces from both nations vigilantly watch over each of the borders of their own lands to prevent the vile undead of Lordaeron in entering each of their respective lands and threatening their people.
The kingdom of Stromgarde is located on the Arathi Highlands, which are in southeastern foothills of the Alterac mountains. Having been attacked once by the old Horde during the Second War, the kingdom of Stromgarde has recovered and has since remained strong for it has managed to prevent the Scourge from entering their domain. In an unfortunate event prior to the Third War, Stromgarde seceded from the Alliance due to territorial dispute and disagreements upon maintaining the former internment act to the orcs. However, despite Stromgarde no longer being part of the Alliance, King Thoras Trollbane had still generously agreed to send a brigade of soldiers in Stromgarde to aid and accompany Jaina Proudmoore and other survivors from Lordaeron to Kalimdor. In the present day, the young Galen Trollbane, son of Thoras Trollbane, rules Stromgarde as its newly succeeded king with his father passing away not long ago due to old age and an illness that he had acquired before.
The kingdom of Gilneas is located in an isolated peninsula to the far southwest of Silverpine Forest and Dalaran. Like Stromgarde, Gilneas is also a strong nation, and had remained untouched by the undead and demonic invasion in Lordaeron. Gilneas also left the Alliance before the Third War by the same reasons with Stromgarde. A massive stone wall with a huge gate has been erected to fully separate Gilneas from the other kingdoms as per ordered by the aged King Genn Greymane, which fortunately also protected his nation from the Scourge on Lordaeron. In the wake of the Third War, King Genn had a somewhat change of heart when he agreed to send a brigade of soldiers in Gilneas to also go with Jaina and other survivors from Lordaeron to Kalimdor after being persuaded by his lieutenant, Darius Crowley, and by his children, Prince Liam and Princess Tess. In the present day, Gilneas remains standing as King Genn along with Prince Liam and Princess Tess continue to rule.
With the Lich King now having his sights upon the two kingdoms, the undead forces of the Scourge in Lordaeron have begun to move against both Gilneas and Stromgarde. The armies of the Scourge have been split into two with the death knight Baron Titus Rivendare leading the first half to move to Arathi Highlands on the far southeast against the lands of Stromgarde while the lich Kel'Thuzad and the flesh beast Gorerot leading the second half to head to the far southwest of Silverpine Forest against the Gilnean peninsula. The undead armies on Lordaeron move as they are prepared for war with the plan of conquering the last two human kingdoms in the north are set. By the will of Arthas, the Lich King, the Scourge will once more bring death, plague, and ruin to the living as they extend their dark grip beyond Lordaeron, and onto the lands of other nations across the Eastern Kingdoms.
