Meanwhile, at the heart of the Arathi Highlands, Titus Rivendare and Varimathras are planning to launch their massive assault upon Stromgarde Keep, which is the Capital City of Stromgarde itself. Having built a new undead bastion at the outskirts of the Capital City upon the northwest, the death knight and the dreadlord prepare their forces to the upcoming final war battle against the nation of Stromgarde. Titus and Varimathras brace themselves for a fierce glorious battle as the death knight is eager to accomplish his task for the Lich King, while the dreadlord looks forward on taking over the kingdom of Stromgarde as an end of the bargain to him by the Lich King. Titus Rivendare and Varimathras discuss their plans of invading Stromgarde Keep as they assemble their undead army.
Titus: "We finally made it here, dreadlord, right outside of the Capital of Stromgarde. We are close to finishing this war and bringing their wretched nation down to ruins! This battle will be glorious!"
Varimathras: "And once we destroy their Capital, this land shall be mine. I shall rule Stromgarde!"
Titus: "Indeed you will, just as the master promised you, Varimathras. My goal here is to complete his task for me, and bring glory to the Scourge by unleashing death and plague upon our enemies!"
Varimathras: "By all means, it is time we begin our conquest to bring the Stromgarde Keep down."
Titus: "Yes! The fall of Stromgarde is at hand! We shall crush them in the name of the Lich King!"
At that moment, Baron Rivendare and Varimathras muster a fully vast undead army to lead against Stromgarde Keep. The undead army consists of ghouls, crypt fiends, abominations, necromancers, banshees, plague eruptors, gargoyles, obsidian destroyers, meat wagons, and obsidian statues. The death knight and the dreadlord lead their undead forces to move against the Stromgarde Keep. The Scourge forces encounter various neutral hostile beasts residing around the outskirts of the Capital City of Stromgarde such as forest trolls, ogres, murlocs, and golems. The entry way to the northern gate of the Stromgarde Keep is through a road that lies between two small lakes. Making their way through the northern entry road between the small lakes, the Scourge forces fiercely crush the iron gates to enter the city. Baron Titus Rivendare and Varimathras step forth and are met by the paladin Saidan Dathrohan and the new young king, Galen Trollbane, who have braced themselves for war.
Saidan: "King Galen! The undead have finally arrived! The time has come to defend your Capital!"
Galen: "Hear me, proud noble warriors of Stromgarde! The Scourge wretches have come upon our doorstep after they destroyed our outlying villages throughout our lands! Stand and fight to protect our Capital! We must defend Stromgarde Keep and drive all those foul mongrels out of our lands!"
Titus: "Ah, so we meet again, old paladin! I must admit, killing you is not as easy as I thought, but then, here we are at the very Capital of Stromgarde! The final defense of this pathetic nation! This time, there is no other place left for you to run as we shall slaughter you all and conquer this city!"
Saidan: "You have done enough damage upon this kingdom, death knight! I will personally destroy myself by the wrath of the Holy Light! We will not let you foul mongrels destroy this Capital! We will purge you all, and cleanse the lands of your filth and plague! Stromgarde shall not fall to you!"
Titus: "Such hollow words, Saidan. We already conquered much of Arathi Highlands! This city is all that is left of this kingdom! Stromgarde will fall to the Scourge just as Lordaeron, Dalaran, and Quel'thalas did! And as for you, boy king, do not even think that you can defeat the Scourge! You are not even half the king your father was, little Galen! Death shall consume you and your nation!"
Galen: "Do not underestimate me, vile death knight! I will lead my people and defend my kingdom just as my father did! I shall not let the Scourge destroy our homeland! My people and I shall fight for Stromgarde at all costs! We will defeat you foul undead here, and reclaim the rest of our lands!"
Varimathras: "Foolish whelp! Your downfall is upon you all! You cannot win against us! We shall crush your nation! You and your people will die, boy! I shall claim your kingdom as its new ruler!"
At that moment, Baron Rivendare and Varimathras lead their undead army upon launching a fierce assault against Stromgarde Keep. A vicious massive war battle occurs as the Scourge clash against the Stromgarde forces. King Galen Trollbane and Saidan Dathrohan lead all their troops in defense of the Capital. The Stromgarde Keep is heavily defended by a large army of soldiers consisting of footmen, knights, dwarven riflemen, elven priests, elven sorceresses, and dwarven gryphon riders. There are many defensive towers and military structures built upon Stromgarde Keep. Having been warned by Saidan after the destruction of Hammerfall, Galen made it sure to prepare his forces for war as they have already expected the vast numbers of the undead that invaded much of their lands.
There are also residential houses of the good common folks that reside in the city. The majority of the defenseless citizens were evacuated in advance on a safe place near the coast to the south while the common men that are able to take arms have bravely stayed behind to help defend their Capital City. In addition to the well-prepared troops and defensive fortifications, the brave residential folks arm themselves with weapons and armor from their houses to become basic footmen and spearmen as they fight under the leadership of King Galen and Saidan against the vast undead invaders. With well preparations and strong line of defenses, the Stromgarde forces are offering a tough resistance.
Stromgarde Citizen: "We shall fight for Stromgarde! Arm yourselves! Attack!"
Galen Trollbane is a young man as he is only a few years older than Arthas Menethil. Having been trained in combat by his late father, Thoras Trollbane, Galen grew into a strong skilled warrior as he became an elite battlemaster just like his father and his long-lost older cousin, Danath Trollbane. Galen wields the old sword called as Trol'kalar, which is an heirloom of his family that was passed down to him by his father, and had been used to slay countless trolls in battle upon many past wars. The paladin Saidan bravely fights and casts his light-based powers against the Scourge such as his Holy Light spell to both heal his living allies and damage enemy undead warriors. Saidan also uses his Divine Shield to encase himself in an invulnerable barrier, and also constantly exudes Devotion Aura to increase the defensive capabilities of him and his allies. The paladin also casts his ultimate holy spell of Resurrection to revive some recently killed allied warriors to full life. With the warrior skills of Galen and the divine spells of Saidan, they are able to fight effectively against the undead.
Saidan: "Vile rotting wretches! Justice will be served! Come and feel the wrath of the Holy Light!"
Galen: "Slay all the undead! We must never give up, soldiers! The glory of Stromgarde is at hand!"
On the other hand, the undead forces press their attack hard to destroy the entire Stromgarde Keep. Varimathras and Baron Rivendare both use their dark powers in fighting the Stromgarde defenders. Varimathras casts his Rain of Fire spell to damage various Stromgarde soldiers and buildings with raining fiery rocks, and casts his Sleep spell to put any random foe on a trance-like sleep state. The dreadlord constantly exudes his Vampiric Aura for him and his melee allies to steal life force with every attack. Varimathras also casts his most powerful spell of Doom to burn an enemy warrior to death with hellish flames and magically spawns a doomguard out from the ashes of the burnt troop.
In contrast to the light-based powers of Saidan, Titus casts his unholy necromantic powers in battle. Titus casts Death Coil to heal his undead minions and harm his living foes. The death knight exudes Unholy Aura constantly for him and his warriors to move and regenerate life faster. He casts Death Pact that instantly sacrifices one of his undead servants whenever he needs to heal himself. Finally, Titus casts his most powerful dark spell of Animate Dead to bolster his army with a small force of reanimated undead by the corpses of various fallen allied and enemy troops. The Scourge invaders push on their fierce attack as Baron Rivendare is determined in destroying the nation of Stromgarde for the Lich King, and Varimathras is determined to take over the kingdom from Galen for himself.
Titus: "Glory to the Scourge! Death will consume all of Stromgarde in the name of the Lich King!"
Varimathras: "Your reign is short lived, whelp! Your lands shall be mine! I shall rule Stromgarde!"
Despite the formidable defenses of the Stromgarde warriors in their Capital City, the Scourge have the advantage in numbers. Baron Rivendare and Varimathras brought the full force of their undead armies to ensure the success of their conquest of the Stromgarde Keep. As the war battle rages, the scales slowly turn in the favor of the Scourge due to their effective assault with the means of heavy attrition and numbers gain. The undead forces are bolstered by every Stromgarde warrior that falls. Despite also losing a lot of undead warriors in the war battle, the Scourge manage to gain the upper hand as they can bolster their ranks by raising and reanimating various corpses upon the battlefield. Galen and Saidan are valiantly fighting to lead their standing warriors against the undead invaders, but they are losing their edge, and the Scourge forces are being able to break through their defenses. As the relentless battle continues, the Stromgarde forces are eventually overwhelm by the Scourge.
The formidable defenses within the Stromgarde Keep are breach by the undead warriors with many Stromgarde soldiers killed and most of the buildings on the city destroyed. To make matters worse for the Stromgarde forces, Galen has been severely wounded by Baron Rivendare and Varimathras at the peak of their battle. It did not take long before the Scourge completely defeat the Stromgarde forces. After a long gruesome war battle, Titus and Varimathras eventually succeed on conquering the entire Stromgarde Keep despite losing heavy numbers of undead warriors during the war battle. The rest of the surviving Stromgarde soldiers are no longer able to defend their Capital. King Galen is utterly disheartened to see his own kingdom and Capital fall to the Scourge. Given their hopeless situation, Galen has no other choice, but to call for his standing forces to escape the city and retreat to a safe distant place in the south. Saidan agrees with the wise decision of the young king to leave.
Titus: "Yes! Finally! Victory is almost ours! Their city is falling! This end is near for Stromgarde!"
Varimathras: "Die, foolish mortals! Your Capital and all the rest of your lands shall soon be mine!"
Galen: "What?! No! This cannot be! My Capital City and my entire beloved homeland is lost! No! This cannot be happening again! First the orcs years ago, and now the undead! Damn the Scourge!"
Saidan: "We can no longer win this war, lad! They have overwhelmed our defenses! Soon, nothing will be left of the city! We did our best to fight, Galen, but there is nothing we can do now to win!"
Galen: "My father ruled and safeguarded this nation for years, and I swore that I will do so as well! I may be losing my kingdom now, but I refuse to lose my nation! Too much blood had been spilled out of my people, and I shall not lose more! There is no choice here! Hear me, warriors! Fall back! Retreat and escape this city now! There is no hope for us to win here! Quickly! We must get to the port and sail to our citadels in Dun Modr and Tol Barad! The Scourge cannot follow us to the sea!"
Saidan: "A wise plan, lad! Go now and escape with you men, young king! I will stay here and hold them back for as long as I can to give you time to run to the shores! I shall not let them get to you!"
Galen: "Lord Saidan! What are you doing?! We shall not leave you behind! All of us shall escape!"
Saidan: "No, child! You leave me here and get your people to safety! I shall remain here and delay the undead from chasing you to the coast! You saved my life when you welcomed me and my men in this land, boy. Now, let me repay you by giving my life so that you and your people can survive."
Galen: "No, Lord Saidan! We cannot let you die in here only to let us flee! You must go with us!"
Saidan: "Let this be my last act to my sworn oath of protecting the innocent against evil as a paladin of the Silver Hand! I have already seen the death of one old noble king in Lordaeron. I will not see another good king die to the Scourge especially at such a young age! You can still lead your people to salvation, lad. I believe that you shall one day retake this kingdom, but you must all go for now."
Galen: "Then, your choice is already made. We shall never forget you. I swear that we shall avenge you one day! Thank you so much, Lord Saidan Dathrohan! Our nation will always remember you!"
Saidan: "You are just like your father, strong and honorable. It was an honor to serve and fight for you and Stromgarde. May the Light protect you and your people. Farewell, King Galen Trollbane!"
Saidan focuses his remaining energies to cast Holy Light spell upon Galen and heal the young king of his grave war injuries. After being healed and regaining his strength, Galen leads all what is left of his surviving soldiers to exit the Stromgarde Keep through the southern iron gate. After escaping the city, King Galen and his troops lock the southern iron gate behind them and quickly make their way to the southern coast called Faldir's Cove, which was the landing point of the old Horde when they invaded Stromgarde Keep during the Second War. Upon the coast of Faldir's Cove are a fleet of transport ships and warships anchored by the docks of the Stromgarde shipyards. Galen and all of his surviving people board the ships and sail onto the south. The defenseless common folks will be brought to the safety of the island citadel of Tol Barad, while Galen and his soldiers will sail to their stronghold on Dun Modr. Galen wishes to protect the passes by the Thandol Valley that leads to the dwarven lands of Khaz Modan if ever the Scourge find a way to sail the sea and follow them.
Back in the falling city of Stromgarde Keep, the paladin Saidan Dathrohan valiantly makes his last stand against undead forces just as King Galen and the rest of his Stromgarde soldiers left the city. Knowing that there is no more hope for him to survive in his situation, Saidan is willing to sacrifice his life to let the nation of Stromgarde survive. The undead forces slay the few soldiers that bravely stayed behind with Saidan, and raze the last buildings in the city. Baron Rivendare and Varimathras step forth to confront Saidan who now stands alone and is surrounded by the undead warriors. The paladin has no fear for the Scourge as he stands his ground and braces himself to fight down to his last breath. Baron Titus Rivendare is furious that Galen Trollbane and his people were able to flee from the city due to Saidan Dathrohan staying behind to cover their escape. The death knight plans to kill the paladin in such painful way, and finally complete their conquest of the Stromgarde Keep.
Titus: "Damn you, Saidan! You are brave yet foolish! You made a terrible mistake of staying here while letting the whelp and his weak people escape! You should have just fled with those cowards! You think you saved them?! Fool! Your little heroic sacrifice is futile! I shall kill you here myself!"
Saidan: "You and your minions had caused enough death and misery, Rivendare! It was not enough for you to destroy Lordaeron so you all came here to ruin Stromgarde as well! You may have taken over this kingdom today, but I pray that one day, they defeat you all and retake their rightful land!"
Titus: "We may never know, Saidan. The power of the Scourge is supreme. We will dominate this world! This reminds me of the day when King Arthas killed Uther. Now, I will kill you in the same way, Saidan! You shall die just like Uther! Alone and powerless against the might of the Scourge!"
Saidan: "I make my last stand here! This may be my end, but I shall fight you in the honor to King Terenas! To the Silver Hand! To my city of Stratholme and all of Lordaeron! And to the Alliance!"
Titus: "Leave this one to me, dreadlord. I shall take pleasure on making him suffer before he dies!"
Varimathras: "Very well, death knight. Do as you wish on killing him. It is time to finish this war."
At that moment, Baron Rivendare commands the standing undead warriors to surround Saidan and attack him all at once. The undead warriors charge against the paladin with the goal of ripping him to shreds. Saidan casts his Divine Shield to encase himself in a holy impenetrable barrier. With his Divine Shield, the undead warriors are not even able to attack Saidan, but he still stands completely surrounded by the undead and unable to go anywhere. Knowing that his Divine Shield will not last forever, Saidan musters all his fury and strength to fight the undead warriors. The paladin casts his Holy Light spell to kill several undead while also relentlessly attacking them with his war-hammer. It did not take long before the Divine Shield of Saidan dissipated, and the undead warriors that are surrounding him fiercely attack him at once. Titus also attacks Saidan by using Death Coil to harm the paladin. Saidan stands no chance against such undead forces as he falls to their numbers. Saidan is now at the verge of the death as he stands weak, defenseless, and defeated. Titus casts a one last Death Coil to end the life of the paladin. Saidan Dathrohan lies dead, and the battle for Stromgarde Keep has concluded, with the Undead Scourge victorious and the kingdom of Stromgarde in ruins.
Titus: "Finally! We have done it, dreadlord! We have conquered their Capital City! Now, the entire kingdom of Stromgarde has fallen at last! Victory is ours! Glory to the Lich King and the Scourge!"
Varimathras: "Yes. Our foes are gone and defeated. These lands are now mine to rule as promised."
Titus: "I must admit, dreadlord. I never fully trusted you even when you agreed to betray Sylvanas, but you wisely stayed true to our cause and proved useful with helping destroy this kingdom! Now, as promised to you by the king, you shall be rewarded the lordship over Stromgarde, Varimathras!"
Varimathras: "Good! I now stand as sole high ruler of the fallen kingdom! I shall have total control over Stromgarde just as my brothers and I once have over the Plaguelands! And this time, I am not a second fiddle or servant to a mere banshee! I will bring glory back to the name of the Nathrezim!"
Titus: "So you shall. You will also be granted the power to lead the Scourge regiment on this land."
Varimathras: "Very well then. I will have my own undead army to command as I rule this kingdom. And what of you, Rivendare? What is next for the elite and loyal death knight follower of Arthas?"
Titus: "Now that I have completed my task for the Lich King of bringing death and ruin upon these lands, I shall now return to my city of Stratholme, carrying the honor of this great victory! I brought glory to the Scourge in the name of the Lich King! When the time comes that he calls for me again to another great war, I will once again proudly lead the Scourge on unleashing death and darkness!"
The war and conquest of the kingdom of Stromgarde is finished as it has now fallen to the Scourge. The ruined city of Stromgarde Keep and the rest of the Arathi Highlands shall now be ruled by the dreadlord Varimathras and his own undead forces. The death knight Baron Titus Rivendare returns to his own domain on the ruined city of Stratholme, carrying the pride of his success on his mission. The Lich King Arthas senses the glorious victory of the Scourge upon the kingdom of Stromgarde, and is pleased with his elite lieutenants and undead servants. The Scourge had once again destroyed another mighty human kingdom, as Stromgarde now ends up with the same grim fate of Lordaeron, Dalaran, and Quel'thalas. The Lich King is pleased by the dominance of the Scourge as he takes a step further with his plans of conquering the world by bringing death and darkness against all life.
Lich King: "Yes! You have all done well, my servants! I am pleased with your success, Titus! The old kingdom of Stromgarde has fallen, and it is yours to keep as promised, Varimathras! The might of the Scourge cannot be denied! Death shall come to all! None can oppose my wrath and powers!"
