Steven had gotten used to Alexander's apartment over the next two weeks. He learned the little tricks to make things work the way he wanted. Granted, these things probably should have been fixed by the landlord, but here they were. Alexander had started feeling stronger after three days and the headache had gone away after five days. Overall, he was acting more like his normal self, but Steven was still worried about him. His ankle and foot would take much longer to heal, but he seemed to be making the best of it. They had started taking short walks after the first week and a half with Steven keeping a close eye on him while they were out for any signs that he was feeling unwell or getting tired. He made sure to go at Alexander's pace, the crutches slowing him down tremendously, so as to not hurt his foot. Alexander had suggested a walk to the park this time and while Steven was apprehensive of such a long outing, he had agreed. He had to agree that Tori was getting restless and so were his Pokemon. Steven knew he would need to exercise them when he returned to the league. The two were sitting in silence on a park bench while Tori chased Metagross through the sky. They had been avoiding the topic of Steven returning to the league now that Alexander was getting better. He let his fingers brush against Alexander's as he glanced to the side. "Do you want to talk about what's on your mind?"
"I think we both know what it is," Alexander replied solemnly.
Steven locked eyes with Alexander as he took his hand in his own "Come with me."
"Pardon?" Alexander replied dumbly, completely caught off guard by the sudden request.
"Come with me back to Mossdeep City. Move in with me."
"Steven you're crazy. I can't just move. I have the theatre here and-"
"There is a theatre opening soon in Mossdeep. They need talented people to help get it off the ground. You can still travel on the circuit the same way you have been doing. We have lots of parks you and Tori can practice in too. You would love it." Steven rambled. He couldn't deny he was terrified about the answer he would receive. What if he was wrong and Alexander wasn't serious about their relationship?
"I…Let me think about it, okay? That's not a no…it's just that this is a huge thing you are asking. I'm fairly certain we are skipping a few steps here." Alexander knitted his fingers together and opted to watch Metagross and Tori flying around. "Besides," he added quietly "I don't belong in your world." He gasped in surprise as Steven tucked his finger under his chin and made him look into the steel-colored eyes he loved so much.
"You do. You are more magnificent than you can possibly understand. You do belong in my world because it is our world. You have been a part of it longer than you realize. I will give you all the time you need." After a few moments of silence between the two he offered "Do you want to get dinner?"
"Yeah. That sounds good. I'm ready to eat something that isn't takeout." Alexander smirked.
"Hey, I cooked some." Steven defended with mock offense. The truth, however embarrassing, was he cooked very little. It was something he was bad at.
"Sure, sure." Alexander teasingly kissed Steven's nose, laughing as the other man's face went red "We can count that as cooking this time. I probably would have starved otherwise."
"Come on. Let's go eat." Steven recalled their Pokemon before turning his back to Alexander. The walk to the restaurant was filled with Alexander's humming, something Steven had grown to love, and occasional chatting about contests or the theatre. Once they were at the restaurant, Alexander grew quiet, something that was concerning to Steven and they were almost finished eating before he spoke again.
"Very well."
"Pardon?" Steven looked away from his plate, confused by the sudden lack of context.
"I will move in with you. You are worth more to me than staying here."
Steven was speechless as he simply stared at Alexander. He cleared his throat before trying to speak "What made you change your mind so suddenly?"
"Like I said, you are worth more to me than staying here. You said there will be opportunities for me there."
"This is true, but are you certain that you will be okay with this decision?" Steven wanted to be certain before letting Alexander commit to such a drastic move.
"As long as I have you around then yes. It almost sounds as if you are trying to talk me out of it."
"Far from it. I only wish to ensure that you are comfortable with this decision." Steven reassured quietly "I understand that you will be sacrificing a lot for this."
"Well, I think this feels right. My answer will not be changing." Alexander turned back to his food in a futile attempt to hide the warmth spreading across his cheeks.
Steven's mind was racing as he tried to process what was happening. "I am glad." Was all he could manage.
"Oh? The great Steven Stone is speechless? Who knew that was possible." Alexander teased.
"Watch it," Steven warned playfully. "I can always change my mind."
"You won't."
"You always have to have the last word, don't you?" Steven challenged as he paid the bill and helped Alexander to his feet.
"Maybe." Alexander leaned up and pressed his lips against Steven's before winking and walking away.
