Howard's son Tony had reached home.
"Jarvis!" Tony said.
"Welcome home, Sir." his AI JARVIS said distorted but was cut out
""I am Iron Man." You think you're the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you've become part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet." someone said.
"Who the hell are you?" Tony asked and a man appeared in the light.
"Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D." Fury said.
"Ah." Tony said nonchalantly.
"I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers Initiative."

A car rolled up and Agent Coulson looked down on a crater, took off sunglasses and pulled out phone.
"Sir, we've found it." he said looking at at a certain hammer.

Fury was walking up to Selvig.
"Dr. Selvig." Fury said.
"So you're the man behind all this? It's quite a labyrinth. I was thinking they're taking me down here to kill me." Slevig said.
"I've been hearing about the New Mexico situation. Your work has impressed a lot of people who are much smarter than I am. I have a lot to work with."
"The Foster Theory. A gateway to another dimension. It's unprecedented. Isn't it?"
"Legend tells us one thing, history, another. But every now and then, we find something that belongs to both." Fury said, opened a case and revealed the tesseract.
"What is it?"
"Power, Doctor. If we can figure out how to tap it, maybe unlimited power." Fury said and Loki appeared next to Slevig. "Well, I guess that's worth a look." he said persuading Selvig to repeat the phrase.
"Worth a look."

At an unknown area of Space, a floating staircase among the rocks The Other spoke to a disembodied figure in a chair.
"The Tesseract has awakened. It is on a little world, a human world. They would wield its power." The Other said and handed Loki a scepter with a glowing blue gem. "But our ally knows its workings as they never will. He is ready to lead. And our force..." he said and the Chitauri put on their face mask and got ready. "...our Chitauri, will follow. The world will be his...the universe, yours. And the humans, what can they do but burn?" he said and a 3d model of the Tesseract moved inside it slowly. "All personnel, evacuation order has been confirmed. Proceed to your designated vehicles..." he said. "...for all campus evacuation." he said. "This is not a drill. Emergency personnel proceed to your designated vehicles for all campus evacuation."

Bucky was at home in the living room watching TV with a pizza and beer on the table when his phone rang.
He looked at it to see Fury and an eyebrow went up confused but he answered it.
'What does he want this time?' he thought.
"What?" he asked.
"You remember that idea I came up with in 95 after the fight with Carol?" Fury asked shocking and confusing Bucky at the same time.
Another day, another chance
"Yeah. What about it? They declined it years ago Nick."
"We need you to come in and you might change your mind."
"What did you do Nick?"
"I didn't do anything. But I need you to tell us everything you know about the Tesseract that you can. You knew it in the 40's so maybe you can help us at least a little."
"God damnit Nick!" Bucky said, got up, grabbed his keys, jacket, SHIELD ID and headed to his bike. "Which one is it at?"
We got our card and we're goin' to the dance
"NASA. I called Dr. Selvig to see if he could help. I need you to come to HQ and tell me what you can and then head there and help him."
"You are so dead when I get there Nick." Bucky said, hung up, hopped on his bike and sped off to SHIELD as fast as he could.

Later Bucky was swiping his card angry and people walked away to leave him alone.

When he got to Fury's office he slammed the door open and slammed it shut with his arms closed.

"You are probably an even bigger idiot than Steve." Bucky said. "And that's damn saying something!"

"Just sit down and tell me what you know about the Tesseract." Fury said so Bucky sighed but sat down.

"Not much, it's really Howard that studied it." Bucky said rubbing his forehead. "When Steve went down Howard tried to find him and in doing so he saw the Tesseract and idiotically brought it to the surface."
'Cause we're about to light a fire like never before
"Who was the last person to have it before 95 and Howard?" Fury asked and Bucky shut his eyes trying to remember if it was Zola or Red Skull.

At the Suborbital bomber cockpit Skull checked an electronic map, showing the plane's progress toward America. Then he looked out the windshield and froze. Steve's ragged fighter came swooping up out of the clouds, propeller whirling.
On the Pod fighter Steve yanked the stick, flying shakily toward the flight deck.
His pod fighter skid across the flight deck finally coming to a stop in a shower of sparks and screeching metal. He pushed the canopy off and climbed from the wreck. Then he strapped on his shield and looked toward the cockpit.
He kicked open the door to find stillness and stepped warily toward the control platform. He saw the pilot's chair empty. Suddenly, he heard the whine of a HYDRA assault rifle powering up. His eyes dart to the window and saw a reflection of Skull aiming at his back. Steve whipped around, shield raised, deflecting Skull's shot. The blast ricocheted, blowing out a pane of the cockpit glass and the wind roared.
"You don't give up, do you?" Red Skill asked.
"Nope." Steve said and charged at Skull, who fired again.
Blue bolts ricochet around the cabin. Steve swings, bashing the rifle from Skull's hands. Skull swings. Steve puts Skull in a headlock. Skull throws Steve into a bulkhead.
Steve swings his shield, but Skull grabs it with both hands. The two super soldiers strain, eye to eye.
"You wear a flag on your chest and think you fight a battle of nations? I have seen the future, Captain. There are no flags but Hydra's." Red Skull said.
"Keep the future. I'm looking for a little here and now." Steve said and slammed Skull in the jaw with the shield.
Skull staggers then Steve cocked back and hit Skull with an uppercut. The impact drove Skull up and into auto pilot controls and the autopilot disengaged and the plane lurched violently.
At Suborbital bomber the massive plane spun into a barrel roll. Through the cockpit window Steve and Skull tumbled to the ceiling.
They crash across the whirling cockpit. Steve grasped for a handhold. The plane jerked again, throwing them together. They battle in chaotic ZERO-G. Steve powered Skull into the ceiling and Skull elbowed him into the wall then tried to reach the autopilot but Steve used his momentum to swing around a strut and slammed his shield into Skull's head. Skull based against the wall, but adeptly bounced back. He grabbed a strut and kicked Steve toward the back bulkhead. Skull flew at the autopilot controls and Steve slammed hard into the steel wall. Skull found a handhold and hit the autopilot button.
At the bomber the giant plane pulled out of its dive.
At the cockpit gravity returned with sudden violence. Steve smashed to the floor, his shield rolling away. He lied momentarily dazed with his eyes flutter.
"You could have the power of the gods... someone said and Steve looked up to see Skull advancing, luger drawn. "And you will not admit you want it?"
Standing in front of the cube housing, Skull took dead aim at the star on Steve's chest.
"I want what every soldier on every battlefield wants..." Steve said and eyed the shield at his feet. "I want to go home." he said and slammed his heel onto the shield, flipping it into the air.
Red Skull fired but Steve jumped to his feet, grabbing the shield, blocking the blast and whirled and hurled his shield.
The spinning disc hit Red Skull in the ribs with a sickening crunch, knocking him off his feet smashing him into the cube console. Blue energy arcs and crackles from the damaged machinery. The energy gauge pins at overload.
Skull pulled himself to his feet, staring in alarm as the cube rise from the machine, glowing with a violent intensity. He stared, reached out and extracted the cube. Steve gaped as the cube burn the glove off Skull's hand, exposing the scarred flesh.
The plane seemed to vanish around him. Visions of the nine realms dance in the light and a rainbow portal stretched past an observatory and into space.
"Valhalla..." Red Skull said and the visions sped up until they blur when the cube vibrated violently and he looked worried. "No." he said and Steve whipped up his shield as energy shot from the cub. "NO!" he said and energy bolt ricochet off the ceiling and strike the skull, vaporizing him as the cube went NOVA.
And it's like, oh
"Red Skull." Bucky said. "The day Steve went missing so did Red Skull. He just disappeared while holding it. Some said he was killed while others he was teleported to a different place. Personally I agree with the teleportation. There's no way it was that easy to destroy him." he said shaking his head and took a deep breath thinking about the file Peggy had him read years ago.

The Tesseract was retrieved by Johann Schmidt, the leader of HYDRA, who used the Tesseract to power enhanced weaponry in order to defeat the Allies during World War II. Following his defeat at the hands of Steve in 1945, the Tesseract fell into Arctic waters, where it was recovered by Howard. The Tesseract was then kept at Camp Lehigh in New Jersey, where it remained until at least 1970.

Spending decades attempting to harness its power, Howard eventually helped found Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S., to whom he relinquished custody of the Tesseract in the 1980s. Mar-Vell, an undercover Kree scientist, joined P.E.G.A.S.U.S. and harnessed the Tesseract's power to create the Light-Speed Engine to assist the Skrulls in their war against the Kree and took possession of the Tesseract, storing it in her laboratory in orbit. In 1989, Yon-Rogg killed Lawson to obtain the Tesseract, but pilot Carol Danvers destroyed the engine, causing her to be doused in Tesseract energy. Six years later, she recovered the Tesseract from Lawson's laboratory and renounced custody of it to S.H.I.E.L.D." he said and Fury nodded remembering the part about Carol.

"I need you to go to NASA and keep an eye on the Tesseract and Selvig." Fury said and Bucky nodded.
"You owe me for this " Bucky said and left.

Later he was at NASA being shown to Selvig's room and saw Clint there but ignored him.
And they'll be awestruck, sayin', "aww shucks"
"Sergeant Barnes? What are you doing here?" Selvig asked.
They either got real good or you know what
"I've known about the Tesseract since 43 and Steve bumped into it in 45 right before the crash along with Howard while trying to find Steve all because of Red Skull so Fury wanted me to keep an eye on things like Clint." Bucky said with his arms crossed and and Selvig nodded and got to work.
