Gremania: Different Worlds
"Thank you for coming," Vlad said, respectfully bowing to the Northern Clanleader.
Vlad was a member of the Southern Clan, and was in fact the next in line to be the leader. His father was the current leader, but he had wanted to gain new territory in a foreign land, and was grooming Vlad to take over his role. And part of that was to meet all of the other clanleaders, and becoming familiar with all of the important members in each clan.
But really… Vlad was getting a little tired of it all. He just wanted a nice, quiet evening for himself. Perhaps go on a solo hunt or something. He just wanted a little break from routine.
…
Heracles looked down at the deer with a blank expression. Ever since he had been kicked out of his pack, he had to rely on forest animals for food. Of course, the best prey was humans, but it was dangerous to hunt for humans on your own.
Werewolves needed a pack, and Heracles was lacking one. He wished that he could turn back time, but it was impossible. Perhaps he could find another. But who would want a lone werewolf?
…
Vlad breathed deeply, savouring the scents. He would be hunting alone this evening, something that he had wanted to do for a while now. No bureaucracy, no politics, no making friends with anyone he couldn't care less about because it was better than being their enemies. Just instincts, plain and simple.
As he was hunting, he didn't notice that something was amiss with the ground beneath him, until he suddenly found himself falling. He looked around and realised that he had fallen in a pitfall trap, and he felt a bit annoyed.
No one would hear of this.
While he tried to climb out, he seemed to trigger another trap. This one caused bars to appear above his head, and when he tried to touch them, they burned him. Silver.
How humiliating. A vampire who fell into a werewolf trap.
There had to be a way out. He would find it, and he would ensure that no one knew of it. And then he would return to his hunt. He was hungry, and attempting to get out would take some energy. He wouldn't mind something to drink when he came out.
…
It was hopeless.
Vlad had been unable to find a way out of the trap, and he had already been trapped there for several days. Luckily, the trap was located underneath the shade of a canopy of trees, otherwise the sun would have turned him to ashes by now.
But he was so hungry. He was starving. And as predicted, his attempts to break out of the silver bars had only made him hungrier. He didn't know how long he had until he completely starved.
…
Heracles had gone out hunting when he detected the scent of something strange. It wasn't food, and it wasn't another werewolf. With his curiosity piqued, he decided to follow the scent.
He finally reached a pitfall, and he carefully proceeded closer. He peered down, and through the darkness he could make out a figure huddled up in the corner. And now that he was closer, he could clearly smell the scent of a vampire.
"Are you alright down there?" Heracles called down.
The vampire jumped in surprise and glanced up. Heracles could see him tense, thanking his werewolf senses, but he could also see that the other was an unhealthy pallor, even for a vampire. He tried to look threatening, but Heracles could tell that he was frightened.
Heracles turned around, sniffing the air. He knew that the vampire was probably starving, and he was probably worried. Heracles knew that werewolves and vampires didn't get along, and anyone else from his pack would have immediately found a way to kill the trapped vampire. But Heracles wasn't part of a pack anymore, and didn't have a reason to kill the vampire.
He also didn't have a reason to help him. So why…?
Heracles shook his head. He wasn't a lone wolf. Not by choice. Chalking it up as him feeling lonely, he started hunting for food. Now, what did vampires eat again?
…
Vlad kept quiet, listening to the sounds up there. He could smell that the other was a werewolf, and he hated himself for not being able to smell him sooner. And he hated being in a vulnerable position with a werewolf around.
What would the wolf do? Would he kill him? Would he call his pack for them to all kill him together? And would someone among them recognise him? What would happen if they realised that he was next in line to lead the vampires of this area?
And speaking of which, why hadn't someone from his clan found him yet? They should have been looking for him. Right?
Vlad jumped when something dropped down on the bars, and he was met with a startled and pained yelp. And then…
Vlad stared in surprise as a rabbit was dropped down beside him. The figure above shifted, jumping up.
"Would that work?"
Vlad looked up to see the werewolf of earlier, and he looked down at the rabbit. The creature appeared to be injured, but still capable of moving away from him.
"Can you eat that?" the werewolf asked.
Vlad's eyes widened in realisation, before he glanced down at the rabbit. Feeling his stomach clench in hunger, he pounced on the rodent, drinking the poor creature dry.
"I'll take that as a 'yes'," the werewolf said. "Silver. Does it burn vampires too?"
Vlad looked up, and he wondered if he should answer. Well, the wolf had saved him from hunger, so it was the least that he could do.
"Y-yes," he said.
"Okay," the wolf said. "So then… I'll have to figure out how to get you out. My name's Heracles, by the way."
Vlad hesitated again, wondering if he should tell his name to the werewolf. Eventually he decided that, since the werewolf was helping him, it was the least he could do.
"Vlad," he said.
"Nice to meet you Vlad," Heracles said. "Now, there should be a trigger around here somewhere… That's a werewolf trap, and hunters wouldn't want to get too close…"
Vlad watched as Heracles set to work, and he was feeling very nervous. Alright, so the werewolf was trying to get him out of there. And then what? Vampires and werewolves were enemies. The only reason why a wolf would want to get him out was to kill him personally.
…
Heracles could see that Vlad didn't trust him, and it was understandable. But he needed the vampire to relax. It was the best way of ensuring that the vampire didn't try to rip his head off as soon as he was free.
Not that he could, mind you. He looked to be in terrible shape.
"So," Heracles began, "where's your pack?"
"My clan?" Vlad asked. "They're somewhere. Looking for me, most likely."
Heracles nodded.
"Must be nice to have people like that," he said. "I was kicked out of mine."
Vlad was silent for a while.
"Why were you kicked out?" he asked.
"The alpha didn't like me that much," Heracles said. "But he could still tolerate having me. And then one day… I was out hunting with one of the others, and hunters ambushed us. I managed to escape, but my friend… Anyway, the alpha blamed me, and he kicked me out of the pack. The others don't want me there either, because they believed the alpha when he told them that I would sacrifice them to save my own hide."
"That's… that's awful."
Heracles shrugged.
"It happened over a year ago," he said. "It doesn't matter anymore."
The two lapsed into conversation, telling each other about their lives. As the conversation carried on, the two became more and more relaxed, and the sense that the other might kill them disappeared.
Eventually, Heracles seemed to find the right trigger, for the bars disappeared. Vlad stood up, smiling widely, before he started to sway on his spot. The rabbit hadn't been satisfactory.
Heracles noticed this, and careful of any triggers, jumped down next to Vlad. Scooping the vampire into his arms, he jumped out, before placing him on his feet.
"Are you going to be alright?" Heracles asked.
Vlad shakily nodded, before turning to the east.
"The sun's about to rise," he said. "I need to return to my clan before then."
Heracles nodded, feeling a bit of loneliness again. Vlad hesitated, before turning to Heracles.
"If it's alright with you," Vlad said, "I'd like to see you again. Tomorrow night, perhaps? We could go hunting together."
Heracles was surprised, before he nodded his head. After agreeing on a rendezvous, the two separated, feeling excited for the following day.
The prompt is: 'Person A of your OTP is a vampire and is next in line to lead the clan. Person B is a lone werewolf who was kicked out of their pack (you decide why). One night, person A goes on a hunting trip by themselves, but end up getting caught in some sort of trap. They are stuck there for however many days until they are nearly starving to death. Person B finds them and, instead of killing them like anyone else from their pack would, they hunt for food for person A and try to help them. Although person A is very unsure/terrified of person B at first, they are so starving that they accept the food with next to no hesitation, despite being raised to never trust werewolves. As person B tries to free person A from the trap, they start to talk and get to know each other, slowly starting to bond with each other. When A is finally free, they ask to see B again in secret, despite the disapproval of their clan. What happens next is up to you.'
I feel this could have gone better. Oh well. Better luck next time.
