FemLuxSey: Siren's Call
Bianca breathed deeply, smiling at the scent of the sea. She had to beg her brother to allow her to stay at his beach house, but finally he caved. As long as she kept the place clean, and he would check in every now and again.
She wanted to have a nice holiday before having to go to university, and the beach was something she couldn't enjoy too often. And being completely alone here… She didn't mind too much. And the town wasn't too far away, so she wasn't too worried about loneliness.
It was still early in the morning, and she decided to go down to the beach for a stroll. As soon as her preparations were complete, she made her way to the beach.
She was walking along the shore, smiling as she felt the ebbing waves wash over her feet. She had her eyes to the ground, watching the waves rolling over her feet. After a while she looked up, only to freeze.
Several metres in front of her, a figure was lying in the sand, not even reacting to the waves washing over them. But Bianca could see something red in the water around the figure.
"Mon dieu!" she exclaimed, running up to the figure. "Are you alright?"
Upon closer inspection, she saw that it was a dark-skinned girl, probably just a little younger than her. She also had long, dark hair. And…
"What the…?" Bianca whispered.
Where the girl's ears should be, she could see what looked like fins. And looking at the side of her neck, she could see what appeared to be gills. Could this be… a mermaid?
But what she saw next made her forget about the oddities. The girl's stomach was drenched in blood, and Bianca could see what could only be slashes. She didn't even care about the fact that the other girl was naked.
Bianca bent down, scooping the girl into her arms. She could feel the other breathing shallowly, and was pleased that she was still alive. She knew that she couldn't take her to the hospital – the fins and gills would raise too many questions, and Bianca was afraid that the smaller female would end up as a lab experiment. So, as carefully as she could, she started running towards the house.
…
Bianca sighed in relief, leaning backwards. She had bandaged the other's wounds, and it didn't look as though being out of the water was bothering her too much. Which was good, because she had no idea what to do if that was the case.
She had also noticed that there was a wound near the girl's temple, and had treated that as well. And asides from the fins where ears should be, the dark-skinned girl had webbed hands and feet. If she wasn't a mermaid, then Bianca had no idea what else she could be.
Well, there was nothing to do for now. Perhaps she should look for something for the other to wear. With a purpose in mind, she set out to work.
…
Michelle groaned, before opening her eyes. It was too dry, and another sensation that was foreign to her. She looked around, panicking slightly when she realised that she was in a human's house. What was going to happen to her?
She jumped slightly when a human female appeared, before groaning, her hand making its way to her stomach. As memories of what happened before returned to her, she felt slightly sick.
"Oh, you're awake," the human said, rushing towards her. "You shouldn't move. You got hurt really badly."
Michelle glanced over towards the woman, seeing the blond hair and green eyes. She cocked her head to the side. Michelle had never seen hair like hers before, and she reached out to touch it.
The human's eyes widened in surprise as Michelle examined her hair.
"Feels weird," Michelle muttered.
"I'm told that my hair feels fluffy," the human sighed. "Well, at least we can understand each other. My name's Bianca, what's yours?"
Michelle blinked in surprise, not having expected for the human to ask something like that.
"Michelle," she said. "Where am I?"
"You're in my house," Bianca said. "Well, my brother's house. I found you passed out on the beach. What happened?"
Michelle frowned, not wanting to share anything with this human. After some time, Bianca cocked her head to the side.
"Can't remember?" she asked.
"I guess not," Michelle said, deciding that she would take that course.
"I guess it's understandable. You have a nasty wound on your head."
Michelle reached out to her head, and hissed in pain. She could also feel something on her skin.
"I tried to treat the injuries as best I can," Bianca said, "but I honestly don't know what to do. You're a mermaid, right? Is there anything I should do?"
Michelle noticed that Bianca thought that she was a mermaid, and was a bit amused by it. But she also realised that the human realised that she wasn't human, and was neither afraid nor hostile. That confused her a bit, but she decided not to say anything about it.
"Um, food?" Michelle suggested.
"Right," Bianca said, smiling. "What would you like?"
Michelle had to refrain from saying that she would like human flesh, and decided to go for something else that she'd like to eat.
"Fish," Michelle said simply.
"Alright," Bianca said. "Um, cooked or… I'm sorry if it sounds insensitive!"
"Raw," Michelle said, slightly amused.
Bianca looked a little green, but nodded all the same. She quickly left, and Michelle sighed in relief.
She had been hurt really badly, and if she decided to return in her current state, she would be particularly vulnerable. She didn't want that.
It would seem that she would need to rely on Bianca for a while.
It didn't take long before Bianca returned, carrying a plate with fish. Michelle grabbed it before she started eating, and Bianca looked away, a very interesting shade of green.
"Um," Bianca said, "I brought you a dress to wear."
"Huh?" Michelle asked, not comprehending.
"You know… clothes. Just… I just thought you'd like to wear something. You can't walk around naked, you know."
Michelle was now completely and utterly confused.
"What do you mean?" Michelle asked.
"Uh, well…" Bianca said, glancing towards her nervously. She was a slight shade of pink. "Humans have to wear clothes."
"Why?"
"B-because it's not proper to walk around naked!"
This time, Bianca looked red, and Michelle giggled. Bianca glared, but her skin only turned redder.
"I didn't know humans could change colours like that," Michelle said.
Bianca closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.
"Please, just wear the dress," Bianca said. "Do I have to help you get dressed?"
Michelle blinked, before nodding. Honestly, she had never worn clothes before and didn't know how or why it had to be worn. She had seen humans wearing them before, and it usually made feeding very difficult.
After she had finished eating, Bianca helped her get dressed in a blue dress. Bianca examined her for a moment.
"It's a little big," she said. "Well, you are quite small."
"I don't know whether that's an insult or a compliment," Michelle said wryly.
"It doesn't matter. Do you need to be wet or anything? Seriously, tell me if you need anything."
"I'm not that reliant on being wet," Michelle said. "But maybe I should sleep. I'm getting tired."
"Okay," Bianca exhaled. "Because I don't think we should get those bandages wet. Well, I'll leave you. I hope you feel better soon."
Michelle cocked her head to the side, watching Bianca leave. She shrugged, before looking around her. Was she meant to sleep on this? She sighed, shaking her head, before lying down. Before she knew it, she was fast asleep.
…
A few days passed like that. Michelle was coming to trust Bianca, and Bianca was learning a bit more about how best to take care of Michelle. For example, cooked foods were not a good idea, and she preferred for it to be cold.
Bianca returned from grocery shopping, and she quickly unpacked, before taking something to Michelle.
"I bought you something," Bianca said.
Michelle cocked her head to the side, and Bianca revealed two red ribbons.
"I thought that we could use these to tie your hair," Bianca said.
Michelle cocked her head to the side, and Bianca sat down behind the mermaid. Michelle remained perfectly still as Bianca busied herself with her hair. Finally, Bianca moved away, a pleased grin on her face.
"It looks good on you," Bianca said.
Bianca had tied Michelle's hair into pigtails, using the two ribbons. Michelle felt her hair, and Bianca moved the mirror to allow Michelle to see. The dark-skinned girl cocked her head to the side, before she smiled.
"I like it," she said.
"I'm glad," Bianca said.
…
Michelle woke up in the middle of the night. She was hungry, and she knew that there was a perfectly tasty human nearby.
She went out to the other room, and she saw Bianca lying on the couch. This made her pause. She had taken the opportunity to learn a bit more about human culture through watching television, and she knew that sleeping on the couch was an uncomfortable experience, especially compared to a bed…
She blinked her eyes as realisation hit her. Bianca had sacrificed her bed for Michelle. And Michelle was thinking of eating Bianca.
Feeling guilty, Michelle returned to her bedroom. What she was feeling guilty about, she wasn't quite sure. Was it that she had been sleeping in Bianca's bed, or that she had thought of eating her? Or both?
…
"Are you sure?" Bianca asked.
Michelle had told her that Bianca should take her bed back. Michelle could sleep somewhere else.
"I'm positive," Michelle said. "I could sleep in the bathtub. I'm used to the water, anyway. The dry bed is a bit of a foreign experience."
"Okay," Bianca said. "Let me just check on your wound first."
…
Bianca had gone into town to buy some groceries when she saw something in the window of the bookstore. It was a book featuring two women. The first one had a fish tail, while the other looked human but had fins near the ears, like Michelle. Curious, Bianca entered the store.
She found the book with ease, and examined it. It looked to be a novel about a war between merfolk and sirens. She frowned, examining it further, finding the explanation at the front.
Merfolk can easily be identified by their tails, whereas sirens look more humanoid. Merfolk need their tails, as they live far beneath the surface. Sirens, on the contrary, prefer the surface, as humans are their preferred prey.
Bianca's eyes widened, and as quick as she could, she purchased the book before returning to the house.
She swallowed thickly, before going towards the bathroom, where Michelle was lounging in the bathtub. The smaller girl looked up when Bianca entered, and Bianca swallowed nervously.
"You're not a mermaid, are you?" Bianca asked. "You lied to me."
"Technically, you assumed that I was one," Michelle said. "I just didn't see the point in correcting you."
"…You're a siren."
"And what's your point?"
"…You eat humans."
Michelle was quiet for a moment, simply staring at Bianca.
"Yes," she said. "I do."
Bianca took a step back. Why did Michelle look… hurt? No. Bianca was the one that should be feeling hurt. Michelle had been lying to her.
"Did you… Did you ever think about eating me?" Bianca asked.
Michelle averted her eyes.
"Yes," she said. "I'm sorry."
"Why… why didn't you?" Bianca asked.
"Because you helped me. Because you didn't seem to care that I wasn't human. You tended to my injuries. You gave me food. You gave me your bed. You gave me these ribbons. I… I couldn't bring myself to hurt you."
Bianca's eyes widened, and the two remained like that, unsure about what to do or say next.
The prompt is: 'Person A finds person B on a beach either injured or unconscious/amnesiac. B has gills and fins, thus is immediately assumed to be a merperson. A decides to care for B until they heal/recover their memories. After a while, A comes to learn that B is actually a siren.'
Sirens are, in general, considered to be more dangerous than mermaids, and I think I actually want to write a story about that sometime (maybe like the book in this chapter).
I was looking for Luxembourgish names, and Bianca was one of the results. I decided to go with that.
