Hey Guys, Crescent Rider here and I welcome you to my Hunter X Hunter Story. Before you proceed with the first chapter, I will admit this to everyone.

A few years before I started as a Fanfic Writer, Hunter x Hunter (2011) was the first anime that I've remembered watching on television. I've always envisioned a character of my own in the series whenever I recalled the series.

Now, I've decided to give it a shot. Updates will be slow, but I promise to keep things interesting as I go by.

And lastly, the story will follow my OC instead of being fixated on the Main Characters. So don't judge me. That is all I have to say and enjoy the first chapter!

January 2st 1999

The Yearly event known as the Hunter's Exams was coming and many from all over have sought to pass the exam and become licensed Hunters. Every applicant has something they want to gain, and the number of wannabe applicants is proof of this fact.

Aboard a large passenger ship, a young black-haired girl with violet ends was patiently waiting for the ship to reach the end of its destination but every port they stop has led to several more wannabe hunters boarding the ship as they have every intention to become a hunter.

But from her perspective, these people wouldn't stand a chance as she can tell with a simple glance. But she wouldn't jump to conclusions as yet as she wanted to see how they're fare in the first phase of the Exam.

"You've been out here on the deck ever since you boarded, Little Missy," The Ship's Captain inquired, "Aren't you boiling out her?"

"Your concern is well-appreciated, but I prefer the brisk of the outdoors than the dampened rooms of the ship. No offense," The Girl stated,

The Ship Captain just smirked as he drank from his bottle and respects her choice, "If that is what you want, then I'll leave ya be. But if I catch you passing out, you ain't my responsibility,"

The Girl just watched him go, then turns away as she waited for the ship's departure. For the next few days, the ship had followed its usual route of islands and the Captain often glances at the Girl as she remained where she was seated throughout his voyage.

Never has he seen someone so patient on his ship, especially when he saw the other passengers and sailors come and go on the lower decks of his ship. When she's hungry, she asks for an apple even when it isn't ripe; When's she thirsty, she asks for a glass of water; When she's tired, she just sleeps on the spot while maintaining her position.

This piqued his interest and wishes to know more about this girl.

January 4th 1999

The girl still remains at the same spot she originally sat on, but what caught her attention was the voice of a boy from the ship's stern, "I'm going to be the world's best Hunter! And when I am, I'll come back again!"

Such enthusiasm brought the attention of several people as she heard their comments regarding the boy's intention as naive with millions of people signing up for the exams, only for a handful to pass in the end. The girl spares one glance at him, then closed it after she had gotten a good look at the boy.

And she was somewhat certain that he'll pass this year's exams...

Moments later, she heard the sailors picking on a chore boy with a crate of green apples. What stopped their tomfoolery was the ship's Captain as he ordered them back to work in a strict manner.

Even the Choreboy, Katzo, wasn't spared from the Captain's scolding. But before he left, the boy called for him with an apple he picked up from the floor and tossed it back into the crate.

As Katzo thanked him, he goes to do his job while the Captain chugged on a bottle. Even though the girl doesn't see, she smiles knowing that the boy has a heart for strangers.

What comes next is the caws of Sea Cranes hovering circling around the top of the mast.

"There's a storm coming,"

"Huh? And how exactly do you know that?"

"Sea cranes. That's what all of them are saying,"

"What?"

"Also..."

The girl took this seriously as she opens her eyes, and gazed towards the sky. There were indeed Sea Cranes hovering above, then she fixates her gaze on the boy as she saw him pinch the bridge of his nose, breathes deeply, then he goes to the crow's nest with ease.

This surprised her as the boy managed to reach the top without issue, and was finally certain that he'll pass this year's exam. After a brief moment, the boy confirms his suspicion, "There's a really big one heading right for us. It's true, I can tell by the way its smells,"

The Ship's Captain was surprised by the boy's claim, then he widens his eyes as if he was hit with deja vu. As for the girl, she turns to the front of the ship. In the distance, several dark clouds were gathering ahead.

This was her cue to get inside before the storm hits.

Hours Later, the ship sails through the treacherous storm and the waves violently crash against the sides. This sent several passengers flying all over the room and most were screaming from the sheer intensity of the storm.

Once the ship stops rocking, most of the ship's passengers were all over. Looking awfully pale all over. As for the girl, she was sitting in one corner of the room completely unbothered and unaffected by the storm.

But she wasn't the only one as the boy from before was tending to one of the passengers with herbs, a blond-haired teenager lying on a hammock with a book in hand, and a man with tea shade sunglasses and a suit was commenting on a sour apple he took a bite out of.

A few moments later, Katzo arrived with a cup of water and looked relatively fine despite violent waves that had crashed against the ship. When the girl opens one of her eyes, she saw the Captain standing by the door and assumed his intentions especially when he decided to call the four who endured the storm...

Steering Room

Under the Captain's request, the four that endured that ride had been brought to the steering room.

"Right, then. Go down the line and tell me your names,"

"My name's Gon," The Boy enthusiastically said,

"I am called Kurapika," The Blond Teenager nonchalantly said,

"The name is Leorio," The Suited Man said,

"Ebony," The Girl revealed,

"Good, good. Now why do you four want to become Hunters?"

"Whoa! You're not an examiner so what's with the third degree?"

"Just answer the question, dummy,"

"I will," Gon volunteered, "Because my dad is a Hunter. Being a hunter was the most important thing in the world to my dad. And I want to know why. That's why I left Whale Island,"

Ebony glanced at Gon's determined look and was certain that that was his goal. Thus, she made a small smile for the boy's honesty. What followed is Leorio's interjection, "Hey, kid. You don't have to tell that old guy nothin',"

"But he asked why I'm here. It's not a secret,"

"Look, get with the program. It's us versus him. And I'm not telling him why I'm here,"

"I'm afraid I agree with Leorio,"

"Huh? That's Mr. Leorio to you, you brat. Show a little respect for your elders,"

"But why not dodge the question by simply offering the man a plausible lie?"

"Hey! Are you even listening to me?" Ebony has her left ear closed due to Leorio's shouting,

"However, it is quite shameful to rely upon deceit. As for me, I cannot reveal my reasons here," Kurapika places his hand on his heart, "I have my share of secrets. Deep secrets, which I do not intend to expose at this time. That is why I will not answer your question,"

"Hey, I was talking to you, punk,"

'Can't he get any louder than this?'

"How about you, little girl?" Ebony turns to the Captain, "Do you plan on ignoring my question?"

Ebony cupped her chin as she pondered, then she went for a logical response, "I would... If you provide a valid reason for me to answer. I don't hand out answers freely,"

"So both of you flat out refuse to answer my question and you won't say unless I've come up with a reasonable answer. In that case," The Captain turns to Katzo, "Hey, Katzo!"

"Yes, What is it, Captain?"

"Get a hold of the Exam Committee for me. Let them know we have two more dropouts on the list,"

This surprised the four, but Ebony was equally curious about this declaration. For the comment is directed to Kurapika and Leorio; who directly refused to answer the Captain's question.

"Wait, what do you mean?"

"Still haven't figured it out, huh?" The Captain pulls his pipe away and revealed the truth, "You see, the Hunter Exam has already started,"

"It has?" Kurapika and Leorio simultaneously said in shock,

"I see... That is a valid reason," Ebony remarked, "Though I'd like to ask how the Hunter Exam has already started,"

"There are as many Hunter wannabes in this world as there are stars in the sky. And the examiners, well... The fact is, they don't have the time or the resources to go through them all. That's where people like me come in to pick up the slack. Screen all the applicants and trim the fat. I've already notified the committee about the rest of the lot. Not one of them made the cut."

Kurapika and Leorio continues to express their surprise while Gon and Ebony remained quiet as they listened to the Captain's explanation, "That was just a little storm and look how they handled it. They'd never survive the later stages of the exam. In other words, the only way you four are moving on to the next portion of the Exam is if I give you the go-ahead. So I'll ask again. And think carefully before you answer,"

"You could have told us that sooner,"

After a short period of silence, Kurapika was the first to answer the Captain's question, "I am the sole survivor of the Kurta Clan,"

All eyes were on him as he continued, "Four years ago, my entire clan was annihilated by a band of criminals. That is why I want to become a Hunter. To capture the Phantom Troupe,"

"Sounds like you want to become a Black List Hunter. And the Phantom Troupe is a Class-A Bounty. Even the most seasoned Hunters can't touch them. You know it's a suicide mission, right?"

"Death is not among my fears," Kurapika admitted with closed eyes, "But there is one thing I do fear and one thing alone,"

Kurapika sharply gazes at the Captain, "That time will quiet the rage in my heart,"

Ebony could have sworn that the irises of his eyes had glowed in a pint of red color. Which was confirmation of the traits of a Kurta Clansmen.

"So, in other words, you're out for revenge. But you don't really need to become a Hunter just so you could settle an old score, do you?"

"That is the stupidest question I have ever heard, Leorio,"

"That's 'Mr. Leorio'!"

"There are places only Hunters can go, intel only they can access, and actions only they can take," As Kurapika listed the benefits, Leorio was fuming with anger, "There are more reasons but those are the only three that you have a chance of comprehending,"

Leorio was about to blow a fuse, but Gon intervenes , "Why do you want to become a Hunter, Mr. Leorio?"

"Who, me? Well, it's pretty simple, really. For the Money,"

Ebony sighed while Gon looked curious as Leorio went on an elaborate explanation about money. To buy oneself a big mansion, an expensive car, and high quality drinks; basically, he wants to live the high life.

Then, Kurapika bluntly stated, "If only you could buy class as well, Leorio,"

He didn't take this insult kindly as he turned his head to frown at Kurapika, "That was strike three. Step outside, Time to finish off the filthy Kurta Bloodline once and for all,"

This earned Kurapika's anger as he glared at him, "Take that back, Leorio!"

Leorio momentarily stops by the open door and glances at Kurapika, who furiously repeated his demand once more. But he doesn't flinch as he corrected him one last time, "It's 'Mr. Leorio'"

As soon as Leorio steps out of the room, and Kurapika chases after him, "Hey, Where do you think you boys are going? I'm not finished with you yet,"

"Let them go," The Captain turns to Gon, and the same goes for Ebony as she glanced at the boy, "They're fine. It's like Aunt Mito told me once; you can never understand a person unless you can understand what makes them angry. It's how you get to know someone. So whatever they're feeling so upset about is really important to them. It's up to them now. Nothing we can do but stay out of the way,"

"If that is how you see it, then they'll solve their problems on their own terms. I guess it's for the best,"

"Then how about you?" Ebony turns to the Captain, "Why do you want to become a Hunter?"

"Me? Well..."

Before she could answer that question, the Helmsman spoke as he saw something in the distance, "Captain! Look. Over there,"

The Captain turns to the bow and grunts as he saw a waterspout, "If we get up in that waterspout, the ship is going to sink for sure,"

"Get the sails lowered. Now!"

"Right," Katzo replied, then Gon followed with a question, "Anything I can do?"

"Yes, Follow me up on deck,"

With that, Gon and Katzo goes to the deck and Ebony decided to lend them a hand with the sails, she can answer the Captain's question after. If the ship sinks, she will die as well.

As soon as their outside, Gon and Ebony aided the sailors in lowering the sails while Kurapika and Leorio settle their bout on one part of the ship. The sailors struggled hard as strong wind and crashing waves hit against the ship.

Before long, Gon and Ebony heard the screams of Katzo as he was flying all over with his hands onto the rope. Before long, he was flew in between Leorio and Kurapika and both acted immediately.

Leorio and Kurapika grabbed onto the railing as they try to catch Katzo. But they cursed to themselves as they couldn't grab him in time.

However, Gon proceeded to do what was most reckless thing he had done as he jump over the railing to catch Katzo by his wrists. This prompted Leorio and Kurapika to grab onto Gon's ankles as the two fell down.

With Kurapika and Leorio holding onto Gon, Ebony went on to help them as she leaped onto the railing and squats down to pull Gon back up with Katzo in his arms. Once they were safely on board the ship, one thought crossed Ebony's mind, 'He's reckless, but kind. He will indeed pass this exam,"

A Few Minutes Later

With the storm passing, Gon caught himself in a scolding with Leorio and Kurapika. Though the former was the one doing all the scolding, "You idiot! If it hadn't been for us, you'd be shark bait. You owe me big time, kid. And don't you forget it,"

"Honestly, how reckless can you be?"

"But it's fine, you caught me," Gon's comment surprised the two, "You both did. You both caught me together,"

"He does have a point," Ebony said, as she stands by the sidelines

"Gon!" The three turned and they see Katzo running towards them with a genuine look on his face, Gon simply greets him, "Thanks, Gon. You're incredible. You saved my life back there,"

"Yeah, well, I didn't do it all alone. Those three over there helped rescue you, too" Gon directs his head to Kurapika, Leorio, and Ebony, much to their surprise,

"He's right. Thank you," Katzo thanked as he bowed his head to them,

"Please, No thanks necessary," Kurapika replied,

"Yeah, no prob. We're just glad to see you made it okay," Leorio added

"Admittedly, I didn't do much. But your kindness is well-placed," Ebony said,

"Me too. In fact, I ought to get back to my post right away," Katzo leaves while Kurapika just smiled at Leorio,

"What's so funny?"

"I'm embarrassed at my behavior. Pardon my rudeness, Mr. Leorio,"

This caught Leorio off guard as he didn't expect his sudden change of manners, "I wasn't expecting that. Just forget it. You can drop the Mister. Leorio is fine,"

In turn, Leorio sets things right with Kurapika, "I'm sorry, too. And I take back everything that I said to you before. That was wrong of me,"

"No, it's fine,"

As Gon and Ebony smiled at the two, the four soon heard the captain laugh in sheer delight, "You four are growing on me. So... I'll make sure all four of you get safely dropped off at the port closest to the Exam site. How does that sound?"

"You will?" Gon inquired, "But, what about your test?"

"And my answer to your question?" Ebony added,

"It's like I said, I decide who goes on to take the Exam," The Captain reminded, "Congraduations! You're all moving on!"

This made the four somewhat happy as they're moving on. Though it may not be the real exam, its was great knowing that they're making progress for this year's Hunter Exams.

As for her clothing, try imaging her with Young Tenten's Clothes from Naruto, keeps her hair style straight, and a small pouch by her left thigh. The contents of the pouch will be revealed soon.

And lastly, the Story Cover I plan on using is something I plan on drawing rather than use a photo. I'm currently practicing on drawing, and I'll try to make it good for people.
