Twenty-Second Installment: Season 3 Episode 6: Daniel Darko

Jax visits Lily for his first check-in with his new guardian, but it doesn't go quite as planned.

Lily's POV

I was in my office, bright and early, awaiting Jax's arrival. Ever since he graduated boot camp, I volunteered to be his guardian; I felt like I could be a good influence on him, especially since I am Emma's guardian as well, and, you know, he obviously has a thing for her.

I was looking through my kit for my spell scanner when the door opened.

"The new and improved Jax Novoa reporting for check in with my new guardian!" he announced with a hand salute.

I smiled slightly. "Hi, Jax. Come on in."

"Whoa, is that a spell scanner? I had a lot of a good time with one of those things" he said while looking as though he misses those times.

"You did?" I asked with an eyebrow raised, surprised.

"Oh, well, yeah, the old me did." he stammered.

"Well, the new you is going to be scanned frequently for spell residue."

"Aw, what's the point of giving me my powers if I can't even use them?" he whined.

I rolled my eyes. "Settle down, Jax. You're allowed to use them just, you know, not, overuse them. And just to make sure, I need you to come by at the beginning and at the end of the school day for a scan."

He didn't seem too happy to hear this. "Twice a day? Doesn't that seem a bit excessive?"

"Not for someone who tried to destroy the realm," I reminded.

The realization hit him pretty quickly, as his facial expression changed. "Right, yeah, of course."

Okay, I moved from the desk. Now, cast a simple spell so that I can calibrate the scanner to recognize your spells."

"Okay," he thought about the spell, then cast it; it was a bouquet of lilies. I wasn't too ecstatic about this.

"Lillies for Lily!" he said, hopeful this would 'butter me up' I quickly explained while slowly scanning the flowers.

Uh, actually I sneezed, then continued my sentence. "I'm allergic to lilies."

He had an "oops" expression on his face, and I sympathized with him, besides, he didn't know.

"It's okay; you didn't know any better. Just," I sneezed again, "let me finish scanning them and then," another sneeze, "you can get rid of them."

After I finished, he cast them away, and I almost instantly felt better. "Okay, you're going to be late for class. I'll see you after school."

"Alright, sorry again," he said as I escorted him out of the office.

"Try to remember to be responsible with your powers, and not just for buttering up your guardian with flowers."

he chuckled and said, "We'll do. So daisies next time?" I rolled my eyes and returned to my office. Jax has a good heart. He is a bit misguided, but I can't help blame his father for that.

I could tell that he did want to change, but I knew it was for a specific witch that he had fallen for last year. A part of me knew that she still harbored feelings for him too, but with Daniel in the picture again, it wouldn't be easy for the wizard.

Still, I had hope that he would win back Emma's heart. He may have done some questionable things in the past, but I know he is the one who accepts Emma for who she is will help her reach her full potential.

It's only a matter of time until she realizes it as well...
