Sophie took a gasping breath, appearing on a specific bridge in France that she was well acquainted too. This new kind of teleporting was exhilarating, but also terrifying. For a second in the void, the doubt had grasped her and nearly trapped her in the swirling expanse of nothingness that was the void. She shook off the thoughts of the dark arms that seemed to greedily grab her from in the void, hurriedly glancing around for humans.
She turned on the Obscurer hidden in one of her pockets, hood drawn, brown eyes glinting cunningly in the dim light of the lanterns she'd scoured only a couple years before in a desperate attempt to escape the people she was now trying to find.
She walked with purpose in the foggy evening, eyes seeming to glow from under the shadows of her thick cloak.
She seemed graceful, even, like an antique polaroid picture, at that moment. She almost wished Keefe was there.
She refused to think about him.
She pushed some power down into the cobblestones beneath her, where small tendrils of moss peeked out from beneath the mortor.
Where is the Neverseen? She whispered to the presence of the moss, like a radar in her mind, acting on instinct. To her utter shock, the moss replied, in a hushed, almost wispy sounding voice, echoing from the roots of her mind. I don't know who you are talking about… but if it is the whispers that live beneath my roots, they are beneath the column in the center of the pavilion… near all the other roots… Stunned, Sophie let go of the strange link that tied her to the moss, and headed the way that it had seemed to urge her.
Soon, she saw a marble pillar rising from an obscure park. It was filled with garden beds, teeming with greenery- the roots the moss had mentioned. She walked right up to the pillar, blonde hair falling out of her hood slightly as she looked around, then examining the column. She ran her fingertips over it, trying to see if there was anything to open a secret passageway, or anything… her fingers grazed over a small nick in the pillar. To her shock, it slowly grew bigger, light peeking out from the crack in the pillar, making her fall onto her butt on the concrete below the pillar, hood falling off her blonde head, eyes wide as a doorway appeared out of the pillar.
"Ah," said a voice from inside the blinding white doorframe. "Sophie Foster. What a surprise."
Sophie gasped up at the figure looming over her, a mixed red-and-green tinge taking over the corners of her vision in her adrenaline, both her inflicting and geokinetic abilities ready to use in the blink of an eye.
"Calm down, little Moonlark," said the voice, almost haughtily.
"That's not my name," Sophie managed to stumble out, still sitting, looking up at the illuminated figure.
"Oh?"
"My name," she said, picking herself up off the ground to look in the face of who she knew was Fintan Pyren, a psycho pyrokinetic famous for starting Everblaze. She looked him dead in his shadowy face, eyes glinting proudly. "Is the Phoenix."
"My, how dramatic," Fintain, moving so the light didn't cast its harsh shadow on his angled face. "May I inquire what caused this little outburst, hmm? Finally figured out your precious operation?" Sophie's ears flushed in shame, but she didn't back down.
"Yes, actually," she said. "I've discovered their treachery. I've also discovered that Moonlarks are weak, docile creatures- exactly what those turncoats want from me. I've realized," she said slowly, improvising. She couldn't very well get into the order if she announced that she wanted to take it over and completely restructure it. "To rebuild this world, we have to watch it burn, first." She might've been imagining it, but she thought she saw a spark of greed and pride flash in Fintan's ice blue eyes.
"Ah," he said softly. "So, therefore, you are a Phoenix, rising from the ashes, eh?" Sophie nodded slowly, and Fintan smiled. "The Moonlark's gotten wize, finally. Welcome, Sophie Foster." He moved aside to let her through the glowing pillar portalway. "To your legacy."
Wow! Dramatic! Le gasp!
Anyways, I will hopefully be publishing the next chapter next week… until then, have a lovely week! Thanks!
