BARNEY
At the kitchen table, Izuku enjoyed a bowl of bolts and motor oil, while Eri munched on her own bowl of cereal. As Inko joined them, Eri asked, "Hey mommy, why does 'Zuku have different cereal?"
"It's because of his Quirk, sweetie. His body needs different fuel to keep it going."
"Can I try?"
"That cereal would be very bad for you."
"Too many caramel apples bad or bird-man touching me bad?"
The table crunched under Izuku's grasp. Inko waved over a repair bot and said, "The second one."
"Oh." Eri pouted. "Can I touch it?"
"As long as you don't try eating any."
Eri dipped her fingers in the motor oil. As she touched it, her horn glimmered. The oil bubbled over and spilled over the sides of the container. Bones rose from the black liquid, meat and sinew coiled about the skeleton, and scales wrapped over the reptilian body.
The T-Rex roared, reared its head, and promptly bumped its head on the ceiling. It gave a confused squawk, stumbled over the kitchen table, and crashed jaw-first into the floor. Affronted by the indignities it suffered, the dinosaur stomped its foot on the floor and hissed angrily. Its eyes swiveled around, taking in the appearance of three prey items. It licked its chops and slowly rose to its feet.
Just as the dinosaur was about to lunge, it felt sudden, primordial terror. It slowly looked towards the source of imminent death. The prey item glowed like an ominous star, like the heavens falling, the earth trembling, and the sky growing dim. It looked in the eyes of Izuku Midoriya and saw its own extinction come again.
Eri gave a delighted shriek. "Barney! It's Barney the Dinosaur!"
The glowing in Izuku's plasma cannon paused. The dinosaur glanced between its death and its salvation, lacking the mental capacity to comprehend what was happening. Eri walked up to the T-Rex and patted its neck. The dinosaur stayed absolutely still as it felt the malice rising from Izuku.
"Come on Barney, dance!" Eri said.
The dinosaur looked at Eri, hopping in place and waving her arms. It looked at Izuku, still aiming at it and growing more malevolent by the second. Some survival instinct buried deep within its lizard brain understood that its survival was contingent on making the tiny, helpless prey item in front of it attached to its existence. So, with great reluctance, it waved its tiny arms in the air, and awkwardly shuffled side to side.
"I love you!" Eri sang. "You love me!" She looked pointedly up at the dinosaur. With an audible gulp, the dinosaur warbled out hisses and muted roars in facsimile of the song. Eri clapped her hands and hugged the dinosaur's massive foot. "Yay, Barney!
Inko rose and said, "Izuku, will you be a dear and keep an eye on our new pet while I go get a collar?"
Izuku raised a second cannon. "Orders acknowledged."
The dinosaur trembled as tears poured down its face.
