Chapter 5
Isla Nubar was in a serene almost peaceful state despite the chaos that had gripped it the previous day. Dinosaurs wandered freely, no longer contained by paddocks or fences. An Ankylosaurus wandered through the jungle before stopping to rub up against an overturned and wrecked jeep. Several Compies jumped around inside of a muddy gyrosphere left abandoned in a plain. A Brachiosaurus looks over a wrecked monorail dangling from the track before several Pteranodons screech at it in warning. Down in the underground tunnels Blue ran through them before stopping to look up at an open access hatch which shed some light into the now darkened tunnels. She sniffs a few times before letting out a shriek and a purr as she looks up at the hatch before going on her way. In another section of the island several Sinoceratops walk through a broken section in one of the park's fences on their way to a new grazing area. Back at the ruins of Camp Cretaceous a pair of Stegosaurus lazily walk by the destroyed buildings as the island was now in a natural state.
"RUN RUN RUN!" Darius yelled to the others in a different part of the island's jungles as he and the others ran for their lives through the dense trees. Brooklyn and Sammy were right behind him followed by Naruto with Yaz on his back once more, with Kenji bringing up the rear.
"THIS IS WHY I TOLD YOU TO WATCH WHERE YOU TAKE A LEAK KENJI!" Naruto yells back at the asian teen running behind him.
"WELL EXCUSE ME FOR HAVING TO PEE!" Kenji shouts back, throwing his hands up in the air as he runs for his life with the others.
"Is the Parasaurolphus still there!?" Brooklynn shouts wanting to know if the dinosaur chasing them as a result of Kenji urinating on its head after he decided to take a leak from a tree branch for some reason was still after them.
"No idea, I will look!" Yaz shouts from her spot on Naruto's back as he carries her before she turns to look back and sees the angry dinosaur still chasing them "Yeah it's still HOLY SHIT!" She begins to say only to yell when out of nowhere Rexy bursts through the trees with a roar and snaps at the Parasaur, nearly getting it with her mighty jaws.
Hearing the roar and feeling the thundering footsteps Naruto's eyes widen before he notices a large downed tree "Over there to the left! Get to cover!" he yells alerting the others before they all make a mad dash towards the tree. However their path is briefly blocked by the Parasaur as it tries charging between them only for it to be cut off by Rexy getting between the campers and snapping her jaws towards it.
The campers seize on this moment and resume their dash towards the tree and get behind it just in time to turn around and watch as Rexy sinks her teeth into the neck of the Parasaur causing it to let out a gurgling wheezy rasp of distress. Rexy then proceeds to use her mighty strength to lift the herbivore up in her jaws before body slamming it to the ground in a thundering boom. The Parasaur lets out a final wheezy cry before a loud crunch is heard as Rexy crushes the dinosaur's neck and spine with her jaws killing her prey. Taking a peek over the log the campers watch as Rexy begins to drag away her kill before ducking back down not wanting to watch the grisly scene, all except for Naruto who watches for just a moment longer before ducking back down himself. However he fails to see Rexy's nostrils flare as she smells something before looking in his direction, her eyes just barely seeing him before he ducks down as she continues hauling away her kill.
"Rexy's gone, we should be good for the movement" Naruto says as the others let out a sigh of relief.
"Why are there so many dinosaurs around?" Kenji asks tiredly as they had been running from various dinosaurs all morning ever since they left the South Ferry Dock.
"Oh I don't know, maybe it has something to do with us being on an island filled with dinosaurs combined with likely all the fences on said island meant to keep the dinosaurs in specific areas being down. I mean it's either that or your boyish charm." Brooklyn says tiredly in a sarcastic tone with a roll of her eyes.
"No offense Kenji but it's probably the first one" Sammy says breathing heavily from all the running.
"I don't even care. Right now I just want a sandwich, hell I would even settle for a plain bologna sandwich and I hate bologna. We haven't had anything to eat since we had those awful carob bars that Ben…"Yaz says before trailing off her eyes widening as she realizes what she just said before her and the clothes become downcast at remembering their fallen fellow camper.
"Naruto what do we do? We need to eat and rest as we can't keep running like this" Darius says tiredly as the constant running and lack of food was pushing them all to the brink of exhaustion.
Naruto thinks for a moment before looking out into the jungle and sees something that causes his eyes to widen "We don't need to keep running as we are nearly back to Main Street!" he says with a grin as he is able to just barely see the top of the Innovation Center Building through the trees causing the others eyes to widen as they all get up and follow him as he heads towards said building.
(30 Minutes Later)
The group walked onto Main Street only for their eyes to widen in shock at the state it was in. Entire sides of the various buildings consisting of shops, and restaurants were totally destroyed, metal beams twisted and bent as if they were straws. Glass littered the street from the numerous windows that were shattered. The Spinosaurus skeleton that had stood on one side of the street was completely destroyed, its shattered bones littering the ground. Chairs and tables were either in pieces or knocked over and there were bloodstains in various places of the entire scene.
"What happened here?" Kenji asked quietly as the campers made their way through the destruction.
"Uh I don't know but just going out on a limb and saying that dinosaurs might have been involved" Yaz says sarcastically with a roll of her eyes as she limps next to Naruto with his support having wanted to get down for a bit.
"It seems like more than that though. Almost as if a fight broke out here or something" Darius says looking around as the damage seemed more intense than just being due to dinosaurs wandering through.
"Based on the fact that we saw Rexy wandering around free, my money is on her having been set free for some reason. Most likely to combat the-Indominus" Naruto begins to say only for Brooklynn to cut him off as she stands near the broken safety fence surrounding the lagoon.
The others walk over to join her and see dismembered body parts namely a leg, arm, and what was left of the Indominus's tail bobbing up and down on the water's surface "Well at least we don't have to worry about the Indominus anymore" Brooklynn says grimly with a audible gulp.
"Heh how about that Mona actually did something good for once…Hope that bitch made it hurt" Naruto says with a dark grin glad that the Indominus was dead and apparently having died a pretty brutal death. "That being said though we should probably move back from the edge here before Mona gets any ideas" he adds causes the others and himself to quickly move far back from the edge of the lagoon.
"We should look around for anything useful" Darius says after a moment, seeing this as a perfect chance to search for a way to call for help or at least hopefully find some supplies.
"Darius is right, look around for anything useful but don't wander too far. Stick to the main area and don't go past third buildings on the side streets. We will meet back here in one hour or if someone shouts if they find something or there is trouble" Naruto says, getting nods from the others as they begin to set out. As they do, Naruto looks at Yaz "Do you want to look with me or do you want to look on your own for a bit and limp along?" he asks, wondering what she preferred to do.
"I should be good to look on my own for a bit as I need to get some light walking in to make sure my muscles don't atrophy. But if I need help I will give you a shout" Yaz says with a small smile thankful for his concern as she starts limping away.
Naruto watches her go for a bit to make sure she is alright before he too sets out to look for anything useful. Walking up the street he notices the window to one of the rest busted in as well as some fire damage so he takes a look. Peering through the broken window he sees what's left of a grill along with a charred corpse on it "Dammit" he remarks through grit teeth as he is able to tell that the corpse is that of a Velociraptor though which one is unknown to him due to the immense fire damage it received. Stepping through the window and into the restaurant he stood next to the body before kneeling down and placing his right hand on the side of the raptors charred head "Looks like things were so bad that Owen let you girls out to try and fight the Indominus. Knowing you girls you gave that monster a nasty time before you were taken down. I don't know if the others are alive or not but you get some rest girl" he says softly before having a moment of silence "I can't do it right now but I promise you I will come back and give you a burial so that you don't rot away here" he adds before gently patting the side of the dead raptors head and getting up before exiting through the window.
Heading back out onto main street Naruto decided to check further up towards the innovation center for anything useful. As he neared the building he saw a dinosaur tail sticking out from around a corner and decided to head over to see what it was. Slowly walking up to the tail he peeked around the corner only for his eyes to widen in shock as lying on the ground was the dead body of Echo with noticeable teeth marks along her side. The blonde let out a saddened sigh as he knelt down and patted the side of Echo's head gently closing her eyes "I bet you gave the Indominus one hell of a fight as well" he said with a soft smile silently promising to bury her as well when he gets a chance. Naruto gave the dead raptor a final headpat before standing up and resuming his search.
Not having any luck in the various shops on the section of Main Street he was searching the blonde decided to check in the Innovation Center to see if there was anything useful in there. Waling into the large building he came face to face with a Dilophosaurus that roared in his face causing him to jump back "FUCK!" he shouted reaching for his knife before realizing it had been destroyed. It was at this moment he realized the Dilophosaurus was not only blue but also see-through showing it was a hologram. Letting out a sigh of relief Naruto narrowed his eyes at the projection "Whoever set a freaking Dilophosaurus as the last projection is a dick" he says before walking further into the center.
The blonde made his way through the halls noticing how the showing lab had been cleaned out which was odd in his opinion, not to mention all the broken glass walls. Walking further into the lab he noticed a door open and walked through it to reveal Dr. Wu's private lab. Naruto then noticed a pair of bloody legs sticking out from behind a cart that had a pair of gas canisters in it. Walking over to the body the blonde took notice of how the person's blood was splattered on the wall behind it. As Naruto stopped in front of the body his eyes widened a bit before he grinned "Good riddance you asshole I bet it was the raptors who did you in" Naruto says before spitting on the brutally torn apart corpse of Victor Hoskins. The man's right hand had been torn off leaving a bloody stump, his neck had been torn out with his head barely remaining on his body, finally the man's chest had been absolutely shredded exposing his innards, and shattered rib cage. Giving the man's corpse one last glare the blonde then exited the room leaving the dead man to rot.
Naruto went on to search the rest of the innovation center even checking the abandoned control room for anything useful but was unable to find anything so he headed back out onto Main Street to see if the others found anything useful. Walking back down towards the center of main street Naruto arrived just in time for the others minus Sammy to meet "So did anyone find anything useful?" he asked.
"All the restaurants are either trashed or the food has been spoiled in some way. There might be some canned food lying around but it would take a more thorough search to find them" Yaz said with a shake of her head.
"All the phone lines are still dead so no call for help that way" Brooklynn says with a sigh as she had a small hope that they had been restored.
"I found some novelty survival supplies like canteens" Darius says holding up a few metal canteens with the Jurassic World logo on them "Unfortunately there wasn't anything else useful like swiss army knives or fire starting equipment" he adds though given the family friendly nature of the park and it being a theme park itself having what could end up being a weapon or arson tool for sale wouldn't be a bright idea.
"Other than some super tacky merch clothes I found nada" Kenji says with a shrug.
"Crap was really hoping there would be a decent amount of useful things. Luckily we managed to score some canteens…Anyone seen Sammy?" Naruto says before looking around as Sammy still hadn't joined them. The others shrugged having not seen the girl since she left to do her search.
Just as they were about to start looking for the girl she came running over to them with a wide grin on her face "Guys! You have got to see this!" she says before running off in the direction she came from with the others looking at each other for a moment before following after her.
Within moments the campers were standing in front of a store with a standee out front of the entrance and said standee was depicting none other than Brooklynn advertising a phone charger. After a moment of silence the campers suddenly started laughing "Wow I totally forgot I agreed to do that" Brooklyn says wiping some tears from her eyes.
"Seriously, do you only own one outfit?" Darius asks as teh standee was wearing the same clothes that she was and had been wearing every day since arriving at camp.
"What? It's my signature look! And no I own multiple copies of the outfit so I own more than one outfit" Brooklynn responds with a roll of her eyes and a grin on her face.
"I know about as much about fashion as a stegosaurus but even I know that's not how that works" Naruto said with a grin on his face causing a snicker from Yaz while Brooklynn's eye twitched at the remark.
Kenji ran over to the standee and grabbed the phone charger box that it was holding before running back over and standing in front of Brooklynn before bowing and holding the box up "Please, autograph my phone charger O Queen of the Brooklanders!" he says jokingly before he starts laughing like crazy causing Brooklynn to once more roll her eyes.
"Well I think it's cool, and when we get rescued I'm taking it with us" Sammy says with a grin causing the others to snicker while Brooklynn just shakes her head.
"To be honest this does kind of remind me of home. I haven't posted in days due to everything that's happened, I bet my followers are worried sick about me..well the ones that aren't trolls or haters that is" Brooklynn says rubbing her arms as the reality of things set in for her.
"What about your parents?" Sammy asks with a raised brow, finding it odd that the social media star thought of her followers being worried about her first before her parents.
"Oh yeah them too, sorry when you're a social media star you sometimes think about your followers' reactions to stuff before your parents" Brooklynn says waving her hand in the air almost dismissively.
"This is all very fascinating but Sammy did you happen to find anything useful, like maybe something to call the mainland?" Naruto asks looking at the Texan girl.
"Oh well nothing in the first few shops I looked in. I haven't had a chance to look in this one yet as I saw the standee and wanted to show all of you" the cowgirl replied a little sheepishly as she had let her excitement get the best of her.
"Thats alright lets check this place real quick and then go from there on what to do next" Naruto suggests before the group heads past the standee and into the store to look around.
As they look around for anything useful Darius spots a bin "Oh lost and found!" he says excitedly hoping there might be a phone or something in there "Sunglasses, Hat, Hat, Hat, Sunglasses, Sunglasses, seriously out of the thousands of guests that were at the park nobody lost their cellphones? And what is with all the sunglasses and hats being the same style?" he says in annoyance at having not found anything.
"First of all there were about 22,000 guests at the park when the incident happened according to the morning workers broadcast I listened to prior to all of you waking up yesterday. As for the hat's and sunglasses they're replicas of the sunglasses worn by Dr. Grant, and the hat worn by Donald Gennaro from the original Jurassic Park." Naruto says pointing out a few things to Darius.
"Why would the park sell hats resembling the one Genarro wore and not the one Dr. Grant wore?" Darius asks not understanding the appeal of the deceased lawyer's hat.
"Mainly due to the climate as cowboy hats aren't really suited to tropical climates. That being the case the choice was made to go with one resembling Gennaro's hat to fit the climate and also kinda honor the guy. Don't get me wrong though he still was a cowardly piece of shit for abandoning Hammond's grandchildren in the tour car after he pissed and shit himself upon seeing Rexy show up. Not to mention how he is only really known for being the guy that was on the toilet trying to hide when he got eaten by Rexy, but he is still part of the Jurassic Park legacy" Naruto said with a shrug.
"Geez sounds like you're a fan of the guy" Kenji says sarcastically.
"Oh yeah super fan of the cowardly money hungry lawyer that ditched two kids to save his own skin when Rexy showed up. The real kicker is that Rexy hadn't even broken out of her paddock yet according to the reports by the survivors. All she did was show up and eat the goat used to try and lure her out. Gennaro saw this and flipped out, ditching the kids to save his own skin despite to his knowledge the fences still being on meaning they were all safe" Naruto replies with a roll of his eyes.
"But the fences weren't on at that point as it was after he left the vehicle that Rexy started to break out" Darius points out having read the incident report many times.
"True but the tour group didn't know that at the time. To their knowledge only the power in the tour vehicles was out despite it not being the case. That means that Genarro abandoned Hammond's kids to save his own life in a situation where to their knowledge they were safe which tells a lot about his character. For example if thats how he reacted when he thought the fences were on imagine how he could have acted after Rexy actually broke out. He could have ended up shoving the kids out of the car leaving them at Rexy's mercy to try and save his own skin, not to mention what he could have done when she broke through the skylight of the tour car" Naruto explains causing the others eyes to widen at the sheer cowardly and selfish nature of the deceased lawyer, and how lucky Hammond's grandkids could have been that the man decided to abandon them when he did.
"Wow…by the way not to change the topic or anything but all the phones here still aren't working as well" Yaz says from behind the cashier counter holding a dead landline phone to her ear having decided to give it a try despite what Brooklynn said. "The power is completely out, not even walkie-talkies are working" she says holding up a park walkie-talkie she found behind the counter that was also dead.
"Oh yeah then what do you call these bad boys!" Kenji says walking over to the counter and pulling two green triceratops themed walkie-talkie kids toys from behind his back.
Yaz takes one and presses a button on the front of the walkie-talkie causing an electronic dinosaur roar to emit from the speaker "Definitely not "Bad boys"" she says with a deadpan look at the toy.
"Hey at least they work…and they even have a robot mode" Kenji starts to say before pressing a button on the walkie-talkie in his hand changing his voice to a robot themed one.
"Oh!" Sammy suddenly exclaims, catching the attention of everyone as they turn to look at her.
"You found something?" Darius asks upon seeing her looking at a yellow book with the park logo on the front of it that she was holding.
"It's "An Insider's Guide to Jurassic World" It has all kinds of details about the park. Like how there are hidden dinos carved into all the buildings, or that aircraft aren't allowed to fly over the island…Sorry that last one's kind of a bummer" the rancher girl says sheepishly after looking up from the book to see the deadpan stares of the others.
"Yeah that last part came to be a thing after the plane crash, and was later made an actual law when the Pteranodons were introduced to the park. Heck not even Helicopters were allowed in the Aviary Area after the Pteranodons tried to break the dome and go after a park one when it flew by once" Naruto says with a shake of his head.
"Wait so there is a helicopter somewhere on the island?" Darius asks with hope in his eyes at the possible escape option.
"Nope the park only had that one helicopter and after use of it was banned within 2 miles of the Aviary it made it mostly useless especially when you could just take a jeep or something. After that my dad bought it from the park and started to use it to learn to fly. Besides, even if there was another helicopter we wouldn't be able to use it because as soon as we tried flying away we would get attacked by the Pteranodons since they are free now." Naruto says unfortunately dashing their hopes of a quick and easy possible escape.
"Hey!" Brooklynn suddenly shouts off to the side where she is rifling through a box.
"Is it a phone!?" Darius asks hoping for some good news.
"No, it's a portable camera and it works! Now I can document all the crazy stuff we have seen and what we will see. Our rescue is going to be a "Brooklynn Exclusive"" Brooklynn says with a wide smile as she holds up the camera.
"...Really?" Naruto asks with a deadpan look on his face.
"And that will help us how exactly?" Yaz asks with a deadpan look of her own mirroring Naruto's.
"Um…You guys will all be famous when we get back home?" Brooklynn says sheepishly realizing just how ridiculous she is being after a moment to which the others just sigh after hearing her response.
"OH!" Sammy exclaims with a gasp after a moment.
"Please tell me you found a phone, is that too much to ask for?" Darius said throwing his arms up in the air.
"Nope even better it's an EDB aka an Emergency Distress Beacon!" Sammy says excitedly as she reads a page of the book in her hands.
"Oh yeah I completely forgot dad had that installed" Naruto says blinking owlishly for a moment.
"What is the Emergency Distress Beacon and how did you forget about it! That kinda seems like something you really shouldn't forget about!" Kenji shouts as he looks at Naruto.
"Well it's pretty much as the name implies, it's a beacon that when activated sends out a signal to the mainland alerting them to an emergency on the island and to send rescue immediately. As for why I forgot about it that could be because my dad told me about it years ago when he first had it installed shortly before the park opened" Naruto says with a shrug as not really surprised he forgot about the beacon given how long ago he was told about it and how it never had been used since it was put in.
"He's right, it says in here that Mr. Masrani had it installed as a precaution after the first park went down. It also says that it's battery powered, and can send an SOS signal up to 150 miles in all directions well within the distance to the mainland...We're saved!" Sammy says excitedly.
"Does it say where it's located on Main Street?" Yaz asks, looking down at the book.
"Um…No, the rest of the chapter is just glamor shots of Dr. Wu wearing turtlenecks, and the chapters after that cover other areas of the park" Sammy says after a moment of pawing through the book.
"I really need to look into who put that book together when we get off this island…Okay everyone spread out and look for the beacon, we find it we go home" Naruto said getting nods from the others as they all left the shop and began looking around Main Street.
Brooklynn had Kenji hold the camera she found and record her "What's up Brooklanders? You wanted exclusive footage, well here it is as I am coming at you from the now abandoned Jurassic World…mainly because we didn't make it to the boats in time and got left behind…Anyway stay tuned as this footage is going to be crazy!" the girl says looking into the camera with the Innovation center and wrecked Main Street behind her before she does her whole finger guns gimmick.
"You do know "Brooklanders" is a weird name right?" Kenji points out as he records her.
"Okay I was like 10 when I came up with it and…ARGH nevermind start over!" Brooklynn says with a frown before walking towards Kenji to take the video camera and erase what was recorded so far.
In another part of Main Street Darius was muttering to himself as he looked all around for the beacon.
Yaz was standing outside the doors of one of the ruined shops peering through the glass doors into the darkened building "I don't see any beacons in here" she remarks while unknowingly being filmed by Brooklynn who shifts the focus of the camera to the window next to Yaz that had a poster for coffee on it indicating it was a coffee shop. The social media star lets out a longing sigh as she looks at the picture of coffee.
"I still can't believe I am going to be in one of your videos! Ooh should I have my own catchphrase!?" Sammy says suddenly jumping in front of Brooklynn so she was being recorded.
"Just talk about the stuff" Brooklynn remarks as she focuses on recording.
"Oh okay so according to the book things in the park are disguised, to keep up the whole natural illusion of Jurassic World. For example that rock over there is actually a trash can, the vines behind it are actually electrical cord, pretty neat right Brooklnaders?...Have you ever noticed Brooklanders sounds kinda weird?" Sammy says pointing to each thing as she lists it off before making the remark about the name causing Brooklynn to let out a groan.
Naruto was searching though the destroyed ruins of what used to be a restaurant that had apparently been slammed into causing it to collapse while Yaz stood outside watching him and the ruins. She was making sure to keep a very close eye on if the debris shifted at all so she could yell for Naruto to get out if it looked like it was going to collapse. Walking over to them Darius let out a sigh "Have you guys found anything?" he asks.
"Found a credit card and a pickup order belonging to someone with the initials I.C. Wiener but other than that nothing! Wait scratch that found a family size bag of skittles…and its empty fucking compies!" Naruto says before letting out a yell of frustration.
Yaz merely sweatdrops hearing this before turning to look at Darius for a second "Have the others found anything?" She asks quickly before turning back to keep her eyes on the ruins.
"Found a Scooter!" Kenji yells out as he goes whizzing by on a push scooter causing Darius and Yaz to stare blankly. Their stare quickly turns to a sweatdrop as they watch the front wheel of the scooter catch on a rock and Kenji fall to the ground as a result "I'm okay!" the teen calls out with a wince from the ground.
A few minutes later Brooklynn is holding the camera in front of her as she records herself "Hey Boroklanders! Check this out!" she says with a smile before turning to the side and sees Keni pull up on his scooter "Now it sounds weird to me too" she says with a sigh before cutting the recording.
After roughly a half hour of searching the campers were standing near the pillared entrance to a shop while Brooklynn walked between them recording with the camera "Maybe the beacon got trashed along with everything else?" Yaz suggests trying to think of a reason why they hadn't found said thing yet.
"Nah if that was the case we would have seen the debris/wreckage of it. Since we haven't come across it that means it's still here somewhere" Naruto replies standing next to Yaz before he sits on the ground leaning against the pillar with Yaz taking a seat as well to give her leg some rest. Darius continues to pace back and forth as he searches from the beacon, while Kenji and Sammy take turns on the scooter said asian teen found. Unknown to the campers back in the jungle Rexy was slowly making her way back towards Main Street dragging her kill beside her with her jaws.
After taking a short break from looking for the beacon the campers were back at it with Brooklynn once more recording them. Said girl was currently recording Sammy who had resumed pointing out the various things on mainstreet that looked like one thing but were actually other things "And this rock is…just a rock, but I think it's pretty neat given how it looks like a dino egg. What do you think Camp Fam?" the girl says with a wide smile.
"Camp fam?" Brooklynn asks with a confused look at the phrase.
"Yep it's a new catchphrase ka-pow!" Sammy says before making finger gun sounds and gestures causing Brooklynn to cringe a bit behind the camera.
Off to the side Darius was getting frustrated at still having not found the beacon as he continued to search "Ugh come on it's here somewhere" the boy mutters to himself unaware that Kenji had snatched the camera from Brooklynn and was now sneaking up on him with a stegosaurus toy in hand.
As Kenji got closer he had the stegosaurus in the corner of the shot as if it was approaching Darius "Rawr I'm going to eat you!" the asian teen says in what he assumes is a scary voice as he sneaks up behind Darius.
Darius turns around and looks at the camera in the teens hand for a moment before looking at the toy in his other hand and giving a deadpan look "That's a stegosaurus Kenji they eat plants" he says in a dull unimpressed tone.
"Your head looks like a stalk of broccoli" Kenji says still in the voice as it makes it look like the stegosaurus toy is eating Darius's hair complete with munching sounds as the boy just looks on lamely.
After searching for another hour the campers had decided to take another break with Kenji and Naruto heading out to see if they could scavenge any food from nearby. Yaz was relaxing in a chair as she used the camera to record Sammy and Brooklynn while Darius paced back and forth with one of the triceratop walkie-talkies in his hand. Suddenly the walkie-talkie crackled to life with Kenji's voice in the robot tono again "Anybody order frozen pizza from the world's dopest delivery boy?" he says as the campers turn to see him coming towards them on the scooter with two bags hanging from the handlebars in which are cartons of frozen pizza slices.
"FOOD!" The campers shout in joy at seeing this grateful to finally have something to eat as Kenji pulls up to them and stops.
"I wasn't able to find any food that hadn't been picked over by dino's or spoiled in some way but I did manage to find some sodas" Naruto is suddenly heard saying as he walks up behind the others and the campers let out another cheer.
After quickly grabbing a slice of frozen pizza each along with a soda they all take a seat at the tables and chairs lining main street and look over the pizza slices skeptically given how they are frozen solid. The campers all try to take a bite out of them only to wince and exclaim in pain as they can't bite through them "Ow these are too frozen to eat" Darius says before a loud crunching is heard and they all turn to look at Naruto who is chomping down on his slice of pizza and chewing it no problem given the loud crunching they are hearing.
Seeing them all looking at him Naruto raises an eyebrow before swallowing his mouthful of food "...What?" he asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Um Naruto these are so frozen they might as well be hard as rock…how are you eating your slice?" Yaz asks with a raised eyebrow of her own.
Naruto just shrugs at this "No idea I have always had really strong teeth and jaw muscles for as long as I can remember. Heck I remember a year or so ago I had one of those big jawbreaker candies…not the normal ones, the ones that are really huge, what are they called?" the blonde says as he tries to remember the name of it.
"You mean Bulldozers?" Brooklynn says with a raised eyebrow as given how much she traveled for her social media career she had come across many types of food and candy and recalled seeing what he was referring to in a candy shop.
"Yep that's it, anyway I popped one of those into my mouth and bit down on it and it shattered much to the shock of my dad, Dave, and Roxie when they saw me do it" Naruto says with another shrug as he goes back to chomping on his frozen pizza slice as the others just watch not sure how to respond to hearing him shattering the worlds hardest candy with his teeth and jaws.
"...Okay so for those of us without super jaws, how do we eat the pizza?" Kenji asked with a deadpan look.
"You could try letting it thaw in the sun, unless you would rather I crunch it up into a paste for you and spit it back out for you all to slurp up like how a bird does for its young?" Naruto says with a shrug as he swallows another bite of his pizza slice.
"Ugh gross I think we are just going to try the first option" Sammy says with a grossed out look on her face at the mental image the blondes words conjured up while Brooklynn had to audibly gulp down some bile that rose up into her throat as well at the image.
"Meh whatever works though it will probably take a couple hours for the slices to thaw in the sun" Naruto says with another shrug as he finishes off his pizza slice causing the others to slump in defeat at having to wait several more hours for food.
(Couple Hours Later)
The campers sat around the tables in various states of boredom and hunger as they still waited for the frozen pizzas to thaw. All except for Naruto who for the last half hour had taken to doing handstand pushups to keep active and because he was bored. Yaz was surprisingly only taking sneaking glances at him as he worked out a testament to just how hungry she was. More than once the girl had considered taking up Naruto's offer to chew up her slice of pizza just so she could have something to eat. However ultimately decided against it given how embarrassing the whole situation would be as it would technically be an indirect kiss…a gross one but still technically one which caused her to blush.
"Ugh is the pizza thawed now!?" Sammy asks tiredly as they had been waiting forever for the pizza to thaw which was torture given how hungry the majority of them are.
"I'll go check" Kenji says with a sigh, getting up from his seat next to the texan and walking over to the pile of pizza slices they have sitting out in the sun. as he reaches the pile and bends down to check a slice he recoils back as a Compy jumps at him from behind the pile and hisses. The Compy is quickly joined by several others who stand around the pile before even more start running in from everywhere running by the campers startling them.
"Throw the pizza, throw the pizza!" Yaz yells before a Compy jumps on the table she is sitting at and hisses at her. The girl leans back as the miniature dinosaur lunges at her only to be caught by the neck in Naruto's iron grip. The blonde then proceeds to squeeze as a snap is heard and the Compy goes limp in his grip, its neck having been snapped.
"Aw man all of it?" Sammy asks before letting out a yelp as a Compy leaps at her. The girl then rushes over to the pile of pizza slices and begins tossing them away from the group with Darius and Kenji joining in. Within moments not only the swarm of Compies but also the pile of pizza is gone as the three throw every last piece of their food source away. Seeing this Sammy scowls placing her hands on her hips "I'm really starting to dislike them Compies" she says in annoyance.
"Ugh they're like the rats of the dino world, they'll eat anything" Brooklynn says with a scoff as she walks up next to Sammy.
"Yeah but so will Kenji" Yaz jokes with a grin as she massages her ankle given the sudden jerk backwards she did made the pain flare up for a moment.
"I object to that," Kenji chimes incrossing his arms over his chest.
"Well we lost the pizza but on the bright side I managed to score us some food to replace it. I just need to gut and clean it first before trying to find a way to cook it" Naruto says, holding up the dead Compy in his grip. Seeing this the other campers couldn't help but lick their lips in hunger and a little bit of revenge soaked satisfaction given how the Compies did just make them throw away all their food. So it was only fair that one of said Compies took the place of their pizza as their food.
(Few Hours Later)
Night had fallen on Isla Nublar and in the hours after having to give up their pizza to the Compies the campers had finally managed to get some food. After gutting and cleaning his Compy kill Naruto had managed to scrounge up a barely working propane tank from one of the destroyed restaurants. Then after VERY carefully managing to create a makeshift blowtorch out of the tanke he had been able to cook the Compie for the other campers who had ravenously eaten said dino.
While the others were eating, Naruto had said he would scout around a bit to look for anything else that could be useful or the EDB. While he was on his own the blonde had gone and collected the two dead raptors and carried them out into the jungle a bit away from Main Street. He had then proceeded to use a rock to dig a good sized and deep hole and proceeded to bury the two raptors together and said his goodbyes to them before covering the grave up with dirt and packing it down to make sure the scent of their bodies was hidden so that no scavengers would dig the grave up. Naruto had then taken a rock he had used to dig the grave and used it as a makeshift headstone before using another rock to carve a raptor claw into it before making his way back to the others.
As he returned to the others they all decided to stop looking for the beacon for the night and get some sleep before resuming their search the next day. With that decision made they chose to sleep in one of the ruined stores with Naruto offering to take the first watch. The blonde was currently leaning against one of the stone pillars outside the entrance to the store just looking out across the lagoon and island in general "You should really be getting some sleep" he suddenly says not taking his eyes off the scenery as someone walks up and takes a seat beside him.
"I got enough rest and besides I figured coming out here with you would help you stay awake if you had someone to talk to" Yaz says with a smirk as she leans up against the same pillar he is.
"Heh if you say so, though if I gotta carry your snoring butt all over the island today we are going to have a talk later" Naruto jokes with a grin before letting out a "Oof" as Yaz slugs him in the shoulder.
"Don't be an ass" the athlete says with a smirk of her own before it goes away "Naruto…what were you really doing when you went off on your own while we were eating?" she asks softly, causing his eyes to widen by a fraction before turning to normal.
"I already told you all I went out searching for supplies an-Don't! Please Naruto don't lie to me" he begins to say only for Yaz to interrupt him and grab his shirt sleeve, her head lowered, hiding her expression. The blonde's eyes widen at seeing this and he remembers how hurt she was when finding out Sammy lied to her "Okay okay I will tell you the truth. Earlier when we all first started looking for the EDB I came across the corpses of two of the velociraptors from the raptor pack" he says causing Yaz's eyes to widen.
"The raptors! What were they doing out of their paddock?" Yaz asks in slight fear at the prospect of the group now also having to watch out for Velociraptors as well as everything else that wants to kill and or eat them on the island.
"My guess based on some evidence I found in the Innovation Center is that Vic Hoskins the head of Ingen Security on the island made Owen release the raptors to try and take down the Indominus. Only it looks like the shit hit the fan and Hoskin's plan fell apart given how I found his eviscerated body in the Innovation Center" Naruto starts explaining, causing Yaz to gulp. Hearing the gulp Naruto can't help but let out a little chuckle "Yeah probably wasn't his smartest idea given how the raptors all hated him. Anyway from what I can tell the raptors sided with Owen in the end and worked to take down the Indominus but in the process at least two of them were killed. One though I am not sure which was incinerated in a BBQ Grill explosion and the other one was Echo who got chomped on by the Indominus. Anyway when all of you were eating I was taking their bodies out to the jungle and burying them in a grave" he says finishing his explanation in a somber tone given how close he was with the raptors.
Hearing this and seeing how sad he was Yaz wrapped her arm around his shoulder in a comforting hug "I'm sorry Naruto" she said simply not knowing what else to say.
"Thanks Yaz, they may be gone but they aren't forgotten. And they went out protecting their pack which to them would be a good way to die" Naruto says with a slight smile as he had spent enough time around the raptors to tell how much they cared about each other and that if one died protecting another the dead one would be content with its death. Yaz was about to say something when they heard fussing and turned to see Darius thrashing around in his sleep and muttering clearly having a nightmare so the two got up and walked over to tend to him.
Upon reaching the sleeping teen Naruto knelt down and began lightly shaking him and slapping his cheek "Hey Darius wake up it's just a dream" the blonde says before the boy's eyes fly open in fright with a gasp.
"Whoa hey you okay there?" Yaz asks, a little concerned given the state of Darius figuring it must have been quite the nightmare to have him so shook up.
"Yeah…yeah just a nightmare" Darius says shaking a bit as he recalled the dream.
"You wanna talk about it, I have heard that helps?" Yaz asks with a raised eyebrow unsure of how to help the boy get over the nightmare.
"I was wandering around main street looking for the beacon when I saw Ben walking off in the distance. I ran over and he asked me why I let him go, and that's when the dream shifted to us back on the monorail. Ben was telling me to let him go and I refused when suddenly Ben changed into my dad just as I lost my grip" Darius says quietly explaining his nightmare to the two.
"Darius what happened to Ben isn't your fault" Yaz says after a moment of trying to think of what to say that would help the boy.
"Yaz is right Darius, you tried your best to save Ben and nobody blames you for what happened, it was just a freak accident. Besides if anyone is to blame it would be me as for a split second I didn't pay attention to our surroundings and in the second I got nabbed by that other Pteranodon and therefore wasn't able to help. However that's not going to happen again as I am getting all of you off this island and back to your families come hell or high water that I promise you" Naruto says comforting the boy before he gains a determined look in his eyes. Yaz however didn't miss the way he had phrased his wording which caused her a bit of inner worry.
Before anyone could say anything else Kenji began sleep mumbling into the walkie-talkie he had causing the three awake teens to gain deadpan looks "I keep telling myself the batteries have got to run out sometime, right?" Yaz says with a sigh getting annoyed with the asian teen once more playing with the walkie-talkie even in his sleep.
"Not going to lie, I honestly considered just swiping the batteries out of it myself but figured that would be a bad idea in case of an emergency" Naruto says with a shake of his head and a sigh as well.
"I gotta find the beacon, I can find it if I try harder" the two hear, causing them to turn and see Darius muttering to himself.
"Hey Darius you're not alone, we are all in this together and are a team. You don't need to carry the burden of trying to get us all home as if anything that's my responsibility to bear as the leader of the group" Naruto says, interrupting the boys muttering to himself.
"Push-ups" Yaz suddenly says before she starts doing said exercise with her injured leg elevated. The two boys look at her strangely for a moment, well Darius does as Naruto has to avert his gaze for a moment a slight blush on his face as given where he is standing he has a perfect line of sight of the athletic girl's butt as she does the exercise.
"Okay that's the last time I eat Compy meat as clearly I am having some kind of psychedelic trip" Darius says awkwardly at the sight.
Hearing this Yaz rolls her eyes as she continues her push-ups "When I race, I pressure myself "Go faster, work harder." Sometimes that's good but other times I get stuck in my head and end up not being able to see what's going on in front of me. So I loosen myself up and free my mind by doing push-ups, leg rolls, planking until my arms give out, or a bunch of squats. You know just have fun" Yaz says explaining her method as she stops her push-ups and stands up.
"Damn mind" Naruto thought to himself as he brought a hand up to cover his blushing cheeks and pinch his nose as he couldn't help but picture Yaz doing all those exercises as she listed them off with the last one in particular making him blush heavily.
"...We clearly have very different definitions of fun" Darius says dryly at the girl's logic.
"Okay then wise guy, what would be fun for you?" Yaz asks with a smirk causing Darius's eyes to widen as he looks at Yaz and then Naruto who is doing his best not to look at Yaz at the moment given he didn't want the mental images to come back right now.
A few minutes later Darius was leading Naruto and Yaz towards a series of stones with plaques on them next to a sign that read "Jurassic World Discovery Walk" "Learning new dinosaur facts is what I consider fun!" Darius says with a wide smile and cheer as he walks up to the first plaque.
"Whoo" Yaz cheers unenthusiastically with a dull look on her face before she hears a snort and turns to see Naruto trying to suppress a grin causing her eye to twitch.
"I've been wanting to see the Jurassic World Discovery Walk forever!" Darius says in excitement as he reads the plaque "I can't believe this place is untouched!" he adds turning to look at his fellow campers.
"Yeah this exhibit never really drew in large crowds" Naruto says with a shrug as for as long as he could remember not many people visited the information plaques.
"Well they are crazy, what could be more exciting than learning new things about dinosaurs! Race you guys to the next plaque!" Darius exclaims before running literally three steps to the next plaque.
Seeing this Yaz's eye twitches again and she opens her mouth to say something only to stop when she feels Naruto lightly bop her on the back of her head. Turning to look at the blonde once more she is about to say something when he sees the look he is giving her basically saying "Are you really going to burst his excitement?" causing the girl to sigh and roll her eyes.
"Check this out, Sauropods can eat up to 12,000 pounds of food per day! Obviously their necks help them graze on both elevated and lower grazing levels." Darius says before zipping over to another plaque "Ooh this one says that some dinosaurs developed color patterns to help blend into their environments and hide from…I know where the beacon is!" the boy suddenly says in realization.
Naruto and Yaz's eyes widen as they hear this before Naruto facepalms "Ugh stupid!" he says as he realizes just what Darius means before the trio head back and wait for the others to get up.
(Next Morning)
The campers were back on Main Street "Okay so not to be a bummer but we already looked everywhere around here for the beacon so why are we still here?" Kenji asked rolling his eyes as he wasn't a fan of waking up so early in the morning.
"Yes we looked but we didn't look" Naruto says crossing his arms over his chest as he says this.
"...Okay blondies gone crazy. Darius you're the leader now, Yaz it's your job to keep Naruto distracted and out of the way. I recommend seduction or going the lap pillow route or maybe OUCH!" Kenji says only to yell in pain as Yaz stomps on his foot, her face covered in a blazing blush.
"Kenji you really need to learn timing or your not going to make it off the island at this rate as it won't be the dino's that do you in it will be Yaz" Brooklynn says with a chuckle while Sammy just sighs and shakes her head at the teens' antics.
Naruto sighs as he pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration "Darius you figured it out last night you wanna take it from here?" he asks while mentally asking any higher power that exists to give him strength to deal with Kenji.
"What Naruto means is that it's like Sammy said yesterday. Everything important in the running of the park be it electrical cables to trash cans and everything in between is disguised to blend into the environment so as to not break the aesthetic of the park. We never found the beacon because we were looking for the beacon when it was camouflage like everything else" Darius explains, causing the eyes of those campers that didn't know yet to widen before everyone began searching once more for the beacon.
As they searched the campers looked in every possible place they could think of from garbage cans, to under rocks, and even in bushes but still had yet to find the beacon. Yaz was walking along when she caught her bad ankle on a rock and lost her balance before she braced herself against a palm tree that gave a metallic clang when she hit it causing her eyes to widen.
"You guys ever heard a tree do that?" she asks as the others had stopped their searching when they heard the metal clang before rushing over to her. Sammy noticed a branch that looked like a handle and pulled it causing the side of the tree to open up revealing the tree was not actually a tree and had a compartment in it "Oooh there's stuff inside!" the texan girl says.
"Great now open it again-Brooklynn now isn't the time to be recording" Brooklynn begins to say to Sammy only for Naruto to interrupt her, causing her to sigh and turn off the portable camera. The campers then split up again as they begin opening all the "palm trees'' only to find them all empty
"All aboard the fail-boat as all of these are empty" Kenji says with a scoffing laugh from next to yet another empty palm tree.
"Not sure as this one isn't empty it's gone" Darius says standing next to a broken palm tree trunk before looking down and seeing signs of scraping and dragging on the ground leading towards a large open gate that leads to a side path.
Seeing the path open and where the marks lead Naruto sighs "I really hope those marks lead where I think they are heading to" he says before walking down the path with the others following behind him. Suddenly the campers hear a snarling and the sound of metal scraping causing Naruto to curse "Crap get up on top of the wall there is a ledge there we can hide behind!" he says quickly as the campers all hurry to climb up the various pipes running along the wall. Just as they make it over the wall and crouch down on the ledge on the opposite side they hear thundering footsteps and peer over the edge to see Rexy walking by dragging one of the metal palm trees in her mouth before heading into an open paddock door.
The campers watch as the T-rex drags the "tree" to a pile of other branches, broken wood, and rocks before dropping it and turning around. She then proceeds to use her feet to scratch at the ground in a manner almost like that of how a chicken does before letting out a roar.
"A T-rex lair! They found fossilized nests but Rexy never did this when the park was open!" Darius whispers figuring out just what Rexy was doing.
"Yep it makes sense as that's her paddock as to why she is making a nest now when she never did so before I have no idea" Naruto whispers back with a shrug.
"There is a T-rex lair on main street and we are witnessing new behavior. This is great!" Darius says excitedly before he sees the deadpan looks of the others and realizes just what he said "This is terrible!" he whispers.
"That's putting it mildly, check out new battle scars she is sporting which confirms my theory on having been let out to fight the Indominus" Naruto says pointing out the new wounds on Rexy's snout and neck that were noticeably scabbed over. "I wouldn't be surprised if she is pretty temperamental right now which means we definitely need to steer clear of her. The fact she has her lair near Main Street also means that it's a no-go area for us. Hell we might have to steer clear of the hotels nearby as well as it would be too dangerous for us to stay in them given how close she is" the blonde explains, causing the others to gulp in fear.
"Not to add another layer onto this bad news burrito but look," Brooklynn says, holding up the portable camera and using it to zoom in on a spot behind Rexy. The others gather around to see what the girl means before they collectively sigh.
"Well looks like we found the beacon" Yaz states as lodged in some debris behind Rexy, one of the "Palm Trees" the door of which is open just enough for the campers to see the beacon inside.
"Great what do we do now as I for one want to live and going into a T-Rex lair is counter to that!"Kenji whispers harshly.
"Does this mean we can't signal folks and tell them we're still here?" Sammy asks with a nervous look.
"Great, we try to spend a little time trying to be normal kids and it comes to bite us in the ass. Is wanting just 24 hours not having to think about dinosaurs, being left behind or…or Ben too much to ask?" Kenji says in a defeated tone before letting out a sigh.
"It was nice while it lasted" Yaz says with a shrug as the little bit of relaxation time they had the previous day was really peaceful.
"Hey enough with the quitter talk. We aren't done for we just need to take a moment to think and make a plan" Naruto says trying to cheer the others up as a defeated mindset was a death sentence in a survival situation. Hearing this the others start to perk up a bit with Yaz even cracking a smile as she looks at the blonde. Naruto then peers over the wall to see where the beacon is and looks at Rexy as an idea forms in his mind after he turns back and spots the walkie-talkie in Kenji's hand.
(30 Minutes Later)
Rexy begins making her way out of her paddock and down the corridor unaware that behind her Darius, Brooklynn, Kenji, and Yasmina poke their heads out over the ledge and watch her walk away. Yaz clicks on the walkie-talkie in her hand "She is heading your way Sammy" the girl says into the walkie-talkie.
Rexy continues making her way down the corridor before entering onto main street and then walking out towards the jungle. As she walks further into the jungle she passes by a tall tree not noticing Sammy sitting high up in the tree on one of its branches. The girl watches Rexy continue walking before clicking on the walkie-talkie in her hand "understood Rexy just passed by" she whispers into the device.
Poking his head out from one of the shops on main street Naruto pulled out his own walkie talkie "Alright you guys heard her, Darius Kenji go for it now's your chance" the blonde said into the device.
Hearing this the two boys climb up and over the ledge before carefully making their way down the other side of the wall using the various pipes on it. The two then carefully make their way into Rexy's lair "I hate this" Kenji remarks as they make it to the pile of debris and start climbing it. The asian teen reaches up to get a hand hold only to stop as he sees a dinosaur bone with scraps of rotting flesh clinging to it sticking out of the pile and cringes in disgust. Kenji grabs his walkie-talkie and scowls as he turns it on "Next time I am spraining my ankle so I get to stay behind" he whispers harshly into it.
"You wouldn't be able to handle it" Yaz replies in a teasing tone with a smug smirk on her face as from what she had seen of the teen he would fall apart if he sprained his ankle like she had.
The two boys continue their climb of the debris pile and quickly reach the fake palm tree housing the beacon. However as they go to open the outer shell of the beacon they find it stuck and struggle trying to open it "The T-rex must have damaged the housing I can't get the beacon out" Kenji says through grit teeth with a strained tone before he and Darius stop trying to pull it out.
""We don't need to get the beacon out, just activate it!" Darius says in realization as he grabs a jawbone from one of Rexy's meals and uses it to try and pry the door on the beacon open.
(With Sammy)
The Texan had just had a rather close call with Rexy after having lost sight of the T-Rex for a moment only to look down and see the Queen of Islan Nublar right below the tree she was sitting in. After a moment Rexy had looked up causing the girl to freeze in terror and her life to flash before her eyes as the dinolunged up with her jaws open…and sink them into a tree branch under Sammy before making off with said branch in her mouth.
Sammy let out a sigh of relief as the dinosaur plodded off before her eyes widened as she realized in what direction Rexy was heading "Guys Rexy is headed back to her lair! If you guys are still in there y'all need to get out immediately!" the girl whispered frantically into her walkie-talkie.
(With the others)
Yaz and Brooklynn's eyes widened in terror as they heard Sammy's message before Yaz clicks on her walkie-talkie "Darius Kenji didn't you hear Rexy is on her way back right now!" she says only to get nothing in response. After a moment the girl realizes why they haven't responded "Argh! Kenji must have worn the batteries on his walkie-talkie out with all that stupid fooling around he did with it yesterday!" she says in frustration. However she suddenly got very quiet as the sound of thundering footsteps was heard getting closer and closer as Rexy entered the path to her paddock.
Inside said paddock the two teens had almost gotten the panel to the beacon open when they felt the thundering footsteps and their blood ran cold. Thinking fast they quickly tried hiding among the various pieces of debris.
"What do we do?" Brooklynn whispered frantically next to Yaz as they peeked over the edge of the wall to see Rexy getting closer and closer to her paddock.
"We need to buy them some time but how?" Yaz says in response as she frantically tried to think of something to do but was unable to think of a single thing.
"Looks like I gotta go with Plan D" Naruto's voice is heard from over the walkie-talkie moments before a loud whistle is heard causing both the girls and Rexy to turn their attention towards main street. The T-rex freezes in place for a moment before letting out a growl and heading back out towards mainstreet.
Yaz and Brooklynn are in shock as this happens before Brooklynn asks "When did we come up with a Plan D and what the heck is Plan D?!" she whispers loudly to Yaz.
The track star is silent for a moment before he eyes widen in shock "Oh that crazy jerk! There never was a Plan D but he must have just come up with it and the D stands for Distraction! He is going to be a distraction for Rexy to give Darius and Kenji more time to activate the beacon!" she says through grit teeth frustrated by Naruto once again putting his life at risk for their sake. All the while Brooklynn's eyes opened as far as they could in shock at this.
In the paddock Darius and Kenji having heard the whistle and caught a snippet of what Yaz said due to how loud she said it quickly get out of their hiding spots "Come on we have to hurry and get the beacon activated as every second we take is another that Naruto has to deal with Rexy!" Darius says frantically as he resumes trying to pry open the panel door.
(With Naruto)
After having heard Sammy's message and spotted Rexy heading back towards her paddock from his hiding spot the blonde had quickly decided the best course of action would be to distract said dinosaur. However unfortunately he only had one option in which to distract the queen of the island so he had steeled his nerves and whistled as loud as he could. Immediately after that Naruto made a mad dash towards the end of the street by the lagoon and waited for Rexy to appear.
Fortunately or unfortunately he had yet to decide which it was he didn't have to wait long as within moments Rexy's mighty head was visible as she lumbered out of the path to her paddock. Naruto brought his fingers to his lips and once more a loud whistle filled the air "HEY OVER HERE BIG GIRL!" he yelled, catching the attention of the mighty T-rex. Said dinosaur's response was a loud roar before she began running at him to which the blonde quickly began running away down the left side connecting street to main street.
As he ran down the street as fast as his legs could carry him the blonde felt the thundering footsteps of the mighty dinosaur getting stronger as she closed on him. Measuring the intensity of the footsteps in his head the blonde quickly figured that she was nearing the corner that turned onto the street he was on so he quickly turned around and froze in place just as Rexy's head poked around the corner.
Rexy seemed to freeze in place as she looked down the street almost in confusion before slowly making her way down the street. Her nostrils flared several times as she sniffed for the being that she saw go this way and caught the scent and recognized it before slowly making her way towards the scent.
Naruto remained completely still, barely daring to breathe as Rexy got closer and closer to him. Within moments he could feel her hot foul on his chest and face as she was a mere foot from him looking directly down at him. Her nostrils flared several times as she lowered her head, smelling all over and around him before focusing on his head…specifically the section of his face that was covered in a combination of dried blood and scab that he hadn't had a chance to wash yet.
"I am a fucking moron!" Naruto thought to himself as he had completely forgotten to wash off the dried blood from his injury which Rexy had no doubt picked up the scent of due to how T-rex's have the largest proportional olfactory cavity of any animal ever with the exception of the Turkey Vulture.
For what seemed like an eternity Rexy continued sniffing the blonde before her jaws opened slightly and her long, thick, and slimy tongue came sliding out between her railroad spike-like teeth and licked his head, specifically right where his wound was. Naruto was completely shocked and slightly terrified at this before the mighty dinosaur gave his wound another lick before rearing back up to her full height and turning around. With slow lumbering steps the queen of the island walked back out to mainstreet and looked towards the innovation center before letting out a ear piercing roar.
Not wasting any time after seeing the T-rex round the corner Naruto made a mad dash down the rest of the street and into the jungle wiping off the drool left by Rexy's tongue. After running for several minutes he spotted the rest of the campers huddled down behind a large fallen tree and ran over to them "Did you guys get the beacon activated!?" he asked shocking them by his sudden appearance.
"Dude how the hell did you outrun Rexy!?"Kenji asked in shock at seeing the blonde unharmed.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you" Naruto says with a chuckle having no idea why Rexy did what she did when she had him dead to rites. However the blonde gulped when he saw the look on Yaz's face and she hobbled over to him. He had a feeling he was going to be in for it after the stunt he just pulled but much to his shock instead of saying or doing anything she just hugged him tightly.
"Don't think for a second I am not pissed off by your whole self-sacrifice bit again…But I will deal with that later as for now it's good to see your safe" Yaz said causing Naruto to gulp as he had a feeling he wasn't going to like what she was going to say or do later.
"Yeah sorry about that, I couldn't think of anything else" Naruto said only to wince as Yaz moved her left hand up from behind his neck to tug on his ear. "Okay so before I lose my hearing…did you guys activate the beacon? Please say yes as I would really like any pain I am going to be feeling to at least be the result of a positive outcome" he adds with another wince.
"Yeah we got the beacon activated!" Darius says excitedly with a wide smile.
"We're going to be saved!" Brooklynn and Sammy cheer together, throwing their arms up in joy.
"Awesome, now we just have to stay safe and wait for rescue" Naruto said with a smile of his own at the great news.
"Yeah about that…Where are we going to go now as we clearly can't head back to Main Street" Kenji chimes in, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I am not sure as we will have to look around, but either way we just gotta stay alive until help arrives" Naruto says with a small grin and nod of his head as the campers continue to celebrate their success and the prospect of being rescued soon.
