Chapter Thirty

A foreboding aura lingered in the air. She could feel it from every direction, so narrowing down the source felt near impossible. Hosu city felt much like she had anticipated, with the lurking threat that was the Hero Killer lingering among the masses, fear was bound to plague the populace. Sesshoumaru was just as aware of the off feeling in the air as she was.

She glanced away from Sesshoumaru, instead letting her attention drift to the broad back of her father. Each step he took seemed to overflow with confidence and the power that was proudly paired with it. When she paid sharper attention to his stance, she noted how stiff his steps really were. Deep down she wondered if it had to do with Sesshoumaru's presence. Surely resistance wasn't something he commonly faced as the number two hero, so to have Sesshoumaru there actively applying pressure by his presence alone must've set Endeavor on edge. She didn't say anything, instead looking away.

"Are you okay?" Shoto's voice came from beside her, and when she looked at him, he caught her gaze and held it easily. She didn't miss the way Sesshoumaru glanced back upon catching the question, gold eyes settling on her for a split second before he returned to facing forward.

Biting back on what she felt brewing in her chest, she nodded. "Yeah, of course," she responded. She smiled, hoping it didn't seem too forceful. "What makes you think otherwise?"

He didn't answer at first, instead merely observing her expression as if he were searching for any fault or break. "No reason," he soon muttered. She could tell there was more to it, but she opted not to press it. He would've said it if he wanted to, but the presence of the other two must've held him back. "You just looked lost in thought."

Kagome's smile softened as she shook her head. "It's all right," she said, waving her hand in a dismissive fashion. She opened her mouth to say something else when a jarring aura caused her pace to slow to a complete halt. Shoto paused beside her when he noticed, Sesshoumaru following suit not long after. His gaze remained fixed ahead for a second longer, his icy glare darkening as he caught whiff of what she'd felt.

Nomu.

That's what that guy called that thing that All Might fought back at the USJ, right? She remembered the challenge it'd posed to the pro hero, and she felt her heart sink when she swiftly felt the pressure double and then triple once more.

There were three of them.

They were stagnant at first, but before long they'd begun to move. She could feel them drawing closer. At once, the unease building in her chest doubled. The thought of that red-eyed figure flooded her mind, and her hands tightened to fists at her side.

What were the odds that they would be sent after her? She didn't understand why she'd caught his attention as she had, and it'd been a pressing thought that never strayed far from her mind.

The wonder of when he'd make his next move, and if it'd be directed towards her. It was hard to say for certain, but she felt her skin crawl when she noticed that all three of them seemed to be on a pathway toward her. Though, by the feel of it, they weren't in any real rush.

Or maybe singling her out came with difficulties…?

Whatever it was, their presence was impossible to ignore.

"Kagome."

Sesshoumaru's voice broke the silence, and she swiftly looked at him. Endeavor paused upon hearing him, turning to glower at the paused group.

"What's the deal?" he asked, folding his arms across his chest as he leveled blue eyes on her. "Why have you stopped following, Kagome?"

Kagome's attention swapped to Endeavor at his question. Sesshoumaru could identify the arising problem in his own way, but the other two men with them… They lacked the same abilities that she possessed. Of course, neither of them was aware of the threat that currently loomed in the distance. She tore her gaze away from him, bold blue eyes settling on a point behind him as her eyes narrowed. No… there was no mistaking it. It was slow, but they were closing in. "There-!"

She was cut off when screaming erupted in the distance. It came from the spot she could feel their presence. With the screams came the sound of havoc being wrought. Her heart plummeted into her stomach when she was faced with the thought of what they were capable of doing to an ordinary bypasser. If their strength compared in any way to the one All Might fought, then…-

It was no good.

The noise acted as a catalyst, pulling each of their attention to the same point that held her attention. Kagome felt her heart hammering in her chest. Against the lit-up night sky, smoke could be seen rising higher. The wind carried the scent along with it. Endeavor's expression hardened, eyes narrowing as he started running towards the area. "You two, come on!" he called out to the both of them. "Watch and learn from a pro!"

There was no secondary thought to course through her mind before her feet began to move. A few steps in, and her pace changed to a full sprint. His instructions never once registered in her mind as she acted on pure instinct alone. It took only a few seconds for her to take the lead, sprinting ahead of Endeavor- much to his surprise.

"Kagome!"

She didn't appear to notice, let alone acknowledge the sound of him shouting her name. It took some effort on his part, but he soon bridged the gap, reaching out to curl his hand around her bicep. His grip was tight as he tugged her to a forced stop.

He was met with resistance when she swiftly looked up at him, eyes so similar yet so different from his own glowering up at him. She gripped his wrist, squeezing tight enough to make him release her. Not even a second later, she had resumed her pace. "Stay out of my way!" She shouted back in retaliation, unintentionally throwing the statement he'd said to Sesshoumaru right back in his face. She knew what they were up against. He didn't.

She felt his frustrations rise, but the reality of that didn't faze her. She'd adapted to rely on her senses. It was something Sesshoumaru often encouraged her to utilize. Endeavor could be mad and rage all he wanted. There were greater things at stake than appeasing him.

There would always be greater things…-

She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She only gave it a fleeting thought, opting to ignore it. However, in the back of her mind, there was a nagging thought that told her otherwise

"Shoto, what're you doing?"

Upon hearing her brother's name, Kagome glanced over her shoulder. When she did, she slowed her pace. He'd looked to receive a message as well. The timing felt a little too convenient to be a mere coincidence. She pulled her phone from her pocket to glance at the screen. There was an unread message that lit up the screen.

She tapped it, noting that it'd been from Midoriya. It wasn't just any normal text, however. It'd been sent to the group chat they had for their class. The message's contents were also strange, with it being nothing more than his pinned location. There was no context that would offer any insight. That nagging feeling got worse. Her frown deepened as she glanced up, her eyes catching Shoto's over the brief distance between them.

"It's just his location."

Kagome nodded, once more lowering her gaze back to the message still open on her phone.

"Both of you! Don't look at your phone! Pay attention!" Endeavor had come to a halt a few paces ahead of her, looking at the both of them as he waited for them to follow.

Kagome did none of what Endeavor demanded, her grip on her phone tightening a fraction. Sesshoumaru picked up on the change in her scent, his eyes narrowing at the faint pulse of panic lacing her natural scent.

Something like this… it wasn't normal when it came to someone like Midoriya. He wasn't exactly someone of very few words. He always overexplained things and rambled on. Rationally and realistically speaking, the only reason for him, of all people, to send a text like this was if…-

He was in danger and in need of help.

"Kagome." Sesshoumaru's voice caught her attention. She glanced up at him, holding his gaze for several seconds. A message was conveyed to her, one that required no words for her to understand. She understood it loud and clear. Her gaze fell back to her phone before she ultimately shoved it into the pocket of her skin-tight pants.

"Right," she nodded, starting in the opposite direction that she'd been running in initially, much to Endeavor's surprise. "I'm leaving it to you! Be careful, Sesshoumaru!"

Midoriya was somewhere in Hosu, and it made the most sense for them to go. She attempted to block out the auras those Nomus produced in favor of trying to pick up on her classmate's aura. She didn't make it far before a large hand had reached to take her by the wrist, pulling her to an abrupt stop.

"Don't just go running off!" Endeavor's voice, loud and commanding, reached her ears. She looked up, her expression far from favorable as she regarded him. Her other hand tightened into a fist, and she found herself in sheer regret of pursuing this man as the one she would intern under. Each time he touched her, the contact was unwelcome. Before she could pull herself free a second time, Sesshoumaru had taken the initiative to act.

"Who are you to bark orders at my student?" he asked, his voice nothing more than a low growl. The challenge located in it spoke volumes of the threat he posed to him. His grip was tight, but far from life-treatening at first. A warning, if anything. "You, of all people, should be wary of just how thin the ice below you is."

"She's my daughter," Endeavor bit out in response. He didn't back down, instead reaching to take hold of the collar of his shirt. He was already ticked off enough by the silver-haired demon's presence alone, but his nerves were gradually igniting hotter and hotter with each moment that passed. She was there to mentor under him, and yet another was here to give her orders. Even more so, she so readily listened to, yet he was the one faced with resistance. "You will cease with your intervening."

Red began to seep into the corners of Sesshoumaru's eyes, his expression eerily calm despite the rage she could feel pouring off him in waves. Kagome looked between the two of them for a second or two, realizing that her father wouldn't react with conscious intelligence in this situation.

She reached for each of them, gripping them with a steel-like grip. With strength that rivaled her petite frame, she easily shoved them back several paces. Her hand came up, resting flat on Sesshoumaru's chest as a lingering reminder of her close proximity as her body acted as a wall between them.

"Knock it off, idiots!" she spat at them both. "Now's not the time to be fighting to be in charge of anything." She shouldn't have to be the one saying it, either. Endeavor looked at her, a look akin to shock and anger visible on his face, but all he was met with was her harsh glare. Under her influence, Sesshoumaru was the first to relent. Kagome didn't back down until the tension had frayed enough. Not fully broken, but good enough…

Before anything else could be said, the screaming in the distance grew louder. Kagome glanced towards it just in time to spot a large figure barreling down the street. The brief thought that her prior idea seemed to be right flickered through her mind as she took a swift step out of Sesshoumaru's way. He reacted before anyone else was able to process what had happened, lunging for the creature sprinting towards them.

It landed on the ground with a heavy thud, and Sessshoumaru rose back to his full height. The ground below the Nomu was cracked from the blunt force he'd struck it with. Sesshoumaru didn't blink twice as blood dripped from his claws to splatter against the ground.

Kagome knew he had it covered, and when she met his gaze over the distance, she nodded. She once more took her chance to go find Midoriya.

"Follow her," Sesshoumaru stated. He brought his other hand up, brushing back long strands of silver hair back over his shoulder. Shoto nodded. While it wasn't quite a demand, but it was as if he could tell exactly what he had been planning. "Leave the weight of this to me."

"Right," Shoto stated. Before he could make it too far, he glanced back at Endeavor's frozen form. It wasn't a normal thing to see- to see him so jarred. It was satisfying, in a way. "It's an alleyway at 4-2-10 Ekou Street," he called over his shoulder as he turned on his heel, running down the path Kagome had taken. She'd already vanished, but he still knew where he needed to go, at least. "If you finish up here, or if you find any free pros, send them there!"

Auroua-chan: Gonna wrap this chapter up here. In the next, Kagome and Stain will meet a second time. With that meeting, it's only fitting that some information about her will end up slipping. Additionally, he knows very well just how obsessed Shigaraki is becoming with Kagome. He might just offer her a warning about it.

Endeavor and Sesshoumaru are at each other's throats (literally) but at least Kagome's there to keep one of them from seriously injuring the other. Additionally, there was a bit of Sesshoumaru's ruthlessness witnessed in this chapter. After all, his strength is no joke.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Reivew, Favorite, and Follow, thank you!
