Psychopaths (SCREAM 1)

Chapter 10

My breath picks up as I sit up grabbing my bat while his chilling voice chuckles through the phone. "Relax doll, just wanted to tell you I heard about your boyfriend, getting locked up."

I sighed in relief, I hate that he's locked but at least he's safe. "So what you called to gloat," I question annoyed.

"Not at all, just glad I have you all to myself now," he says laughing I could practically feel his smirk. Not wanting to hear another word. I hang up tossing the phone and making a run for the front door downstairs.

As soon as I opened the door, Stu was standing there fist balled up as if he was about to knock. I let out a breath of relief seeing him "You okay? Looking a little pale there." he says putting the back of his hand to my head.

"I'm okay," I say looking around him for anything suspicious. Stu gives me a look not believing me he approaches me slowly reaching his hand out for the bat "A, hands me the bat please?"

I grip it tighter not wanting to give it away. "The killer could be lurking."

"I'll protect you, Billy wanted me to stay by your side," he says placing his hand on the bat. I squint my eyes at him "Really?" I ask surprised.

"Of course, now come on let's go watch a movie and gossip," he says quickly pulling me inside by the bat.

Stu sniffs the air and gasps in delight" It smells good, what are you cooking?" I laugh going to the kitchen to make him a plate. "Chicken parmesan," I reply cutting him a piece.

He quickly sits at the table and practically snatches the plate from me. He takes a bite and groans taking another one. "Billy is a lucky guy."

"He told you?" I question surprised. "Yeah he tells me everything plus you guys have been in love since we were in diapers," he replies not looking up as he stuffs his mouth more.

I nod pulling a bottle of wine from the shelf. "I don't know I guess I thought my leaving ruined our chance plus that whole thing with Sidney," I say grabbing two glasses.

"He was devastated of course but he's also used to abandonment, but you came back that's what matters and he will never love Sidney the way he loves you"

I pour myself a full glass, next pouring Stu some. "No beer?" He pouts. I scoff, "This wine is expensive." I say taking a light sip moaning at the taste.

Stu gives me a look I couldn't quite read. "So what's been up with you?" I ask. Stu finishes his plate pushing it away. " nothing new partying, football, and being a sidekick." He says the last part bitterly.

"Stu you're not a sidekick, stop listening to people," I say taking another long sip. "They're right though, I'm not very smart like Billy is." He says sadly staring at the glass.

"I think you're smart," I say scooting closer "And you're funnier than Billy," I say truthfully. Billy was the good-looking, class president jock type, and Stu was the athletic, artistic jokester. Stu smiles wide at me.

"Really?" He asks taking a sip, and making a little face afterward, "Yes I promise, you're fine the way you are." I say laughing, I quickly drink the rest of the wine in my glass while standing up to grab his finished plate.

Stu quickly tosses back the rest of his. "Let me help you." He says trying to take the dishes from me but I move out of his way before he can grab them. "No, you're my guest," I say as I start backing away as he chases me like his prey.

I run to the sink start the water and dump the dishes in there before I can add soap, Stu's hip bumps me out of the way. He starts washing them as I try to push him out of the way.

He turns to me laughing, "You're so tiny." He says pocking my nose with his soapy finger leaving soap suds on my nose. My smile immediately falls. "I'm not short, I'm very tall," I say suddenly having the strength to push him.

Stu's steps falter but he laughs harder, "Sorry I can't take you seriously when you're down there." He teases looking down on me before turning away. I immediately jump on his back hitting his head and body yelling at him to take it back. He walks me toward the couch refusing and yelling at me to let him go.

He reaches his arm up and flips me over his back and onto the couch. I go to stand but he tackles me back down grabbing both my wrists pinning them above my head, and pushing me down. He was now hovering over me.

"Stu." I gasped out surprised, he was looking down at me out of breath staring deep into my soul, all you could hear was our heavy breathing.

His eyes darkened over as he gazed at my lips. My heart was hammering. Why was he looking at me like that? Stu snaps out his trance slowly letting my wrists go. "Sorry." He says scratching the back of his neck.

I lean up sitting crosslegged," It's okay, I blame the wine." I reply. Stu smiles but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "Shit I forgot I have to make a call, I'll be back." He says standing to leave.

"Didn't Randy say to never say that before you leave?" I ask raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah one of his stupid rules," he replies laughing as he heads upstairs.

I stand up going to go pick a different movie to watch, nothing scary I'm over that. I decided on a Disney movie, Billy wouldn't go for this but I knew Stu would.

A few minutes go by before he finally comes back with blankets. "You're staying the night?" I ask confused. Stu tosses me a blanket before plopping down next to me. "Of course not leaving your side remember?" He says putting an arm around my shoulder.

"What are we watching?" He asks looking at the screen. "The lion king," I reply yawning leaning into him more.

"Oh god, Disney...don't tell Billy." He mumbles making me laugh. We did more talking than watching the movie, he was just a good listener and I missed my best friend. I tried to fight to keep my eyes open but they seemed to only get heavier

I closed my eyes just wanting to rest for a moment but I knew that was a lie. I felt a light peck on my forehead before I finally drifted off to sleep.
