5 hours later as a major storm started half an hour prior

"I only employ the maintenance workers for my fashion show building and I do pay them pretty well but they're ethnic and societal minorities so they put a cap on how much I can pay them so they don't become targets, Dana runs the catering company, outside of business we don't talk, she doesn't make much to pay her employees the kind of money Cat would expect her to pay them, most of them are master chefs who were denied a diploma from university for weed use violations even though they a have medicinal cards, they're happy Dana can afford to pay them what she does, admittedly they're barely scraping by but they're happy working for her" says Lola

"technically I'm her only full time client but if I'm hosting a wedding and she has the opportunity to cater to a funeral she'll choose the funeral every time, especially if there are young kids attending, she's of the mentality that a good funeral experience will help the kids not be afraid of death, half of what Cat gives her every week she gives to her employees as a bonus because they technically create the meal plans for Cat when she's on this yacht for any extended length of time, one of Dana's employees has a daughter with Cerebral Palsy and they're making ends meet but just barely, she's an aspiring model but every agency has looked at her and told her to leave, they won't even give her a chance, she's the sweetest preteen I've met and I've met quite a few" says Lola
"is she afraid of being away from land because Cat does sometimes use this as an interview place" says Tori
"nah her dad was a sailor, growing up she went with him on his boat instead of going to school because she was endlessly bullied and felt taking her out of the school system and letting her learn things online instead would help keep her alive, unfortunately he was the one with the money in the family and he died a few years ago, Ruby's medication basically bankrupt them, I introduced her mom to Dana and she was hired on a temporary basis that ended up as a permanent basis head chef, Ruby's dad was a family friend, I always called him uncle pinto bean growing up because I could never pronounce his name" says Lola

"Cat's sleeping, we're not anchored so you could tow us" says Tori recognizing Randy's voice
"we'd need Cat's explicit permission, we can however walk you through how to drive the yacht" says Randy
"Dana's on board so I'll see if she can get us out of danger, I'm not too confident about driving a car let alone Cat's one of a kind yacht" says Tori as she goes and knocks on Dana's door
"what is it" asks Dana
"the coast guard is asking us to move north, apparently its pretty dangerous right now, could you get us out of the danger zone" says Tori
"I'm in my underwear, give me a minute to get dressed first" says Dana
"ok I'll let them know that we'll move out of the danger zone" says Tori heading back to Cat's room
"well can she do it, we don't have long, a tsunami is heading here soon, we don't have long" asks Randy
"she's just getting dressed, how far north do we have to go" asks Tori
"San-Francisco is the closest safe area, otherwise you'd have to enter Mexican territory and they're not too fond of visitors" says Randy
"Dana and I are of Spanish decent, she has family in Ensenada that I'm sure will take us in if need be" says Tori
"Nicole can't go there" says Randy knowing Nicole's on board
"Cat's working to fix that issue, she's not leaving the yacht until Cat's lawyer has the information to file a lawsuit, none of us will be unless we have to" says Tori
"the moment she steps foot on American soil again she will likely be fined" says Randy
"you forget my dad's the LAPD chief with FBI connections and no Nicole won't be because Cat invited her onto the yacht which puts Nicole in Cat's sphere of influence meaning the feds won't fine her because Cat will sue, Do not forget Cat has friends in high places Randy, if we go to Mexico how far do we have to go to be safe" says Tori
"anything south of San Diego California is safe, it's more a precaution zone than an evacuation zone as the quake that caused the tsunami was an eight off the New Zealand coast and it's a fast moving tsunami, its already hitting Hawaii, they had to evacuate half of Hawaii and they couldn't do it in time so Dana better hurry up" says Randy as Dana knocks
"keys" says Dana urgently as Tori grabs them and throws them to her
"better be quick, north to San-Francisco or south to San Diego and we have to be fast" says Tori as She follows Dana to the drivers zone
"we won't make it to either in time, not without a tug boat to assist us, Cat's been draining the batteries for TV and stereo all day" says Dana
"do you have authority to make a request" asks Randy
"I'm not just a caterer, yes, when she's asleep I have authority as I'm the only other one with a yacht driving license, now get us linked and let's get going" says Dana starting up the yacht engine and steers towards the coast guard tugs
"give us a minute to link, the waves aren't making it any easier and they'll disappear soon as the tsunami gets closer, when it hit Hawaii it was nearing a thousand feet in height, thankfully it only clipped the islands but still" says Randy
"use the magnetic points, they're the gold circles on the front of the yacht, I'll engage them now" says Dana
"how strong are they" asks Randy as his officers latch onto the magnetic latch points on the yacht
"insanely strong, they distorts cell and satellite television signals on the yacht when activated, we have to use a dedicated, Cat had them installed for this exact sort of scenario, they're active now, now let's get going" says Dana, throwing the yacht onto full speed ahead as it jumps forward in response
"ok we'll get you out of the danger zone" says Randy
30 minutes later as they near San Diego and the tsunami is now in view
"ugh as if the coast hasn't suffered enough already with the quakes" says Cat finally awake
"hopefully the marina stays intact, I have a request for you to interview Ruby, she has Cerebral Palsy and her dad was a sailor, she really wants to be a model" says Lola

"we can pull up just about anywhere provided she's not worried about getting her feet wet" says Cat
"not till after the tsunami calms down, we're not cleared to get any closer yet, luckily her and her mom live in a safe zone around here so hopefully Lola's text got through" says Dana
"yes, the northern half of San Diego was evacuated as a precautions, Ruby and a bunch of at risk teens are being held at pier thirteen at the naval base until the tsunami has passed" says Lola
"that's military, I don't have clearance" says Cat as Dana heads to pier 13
"you don't need it, I registered as Ruby's evacuation team, they won't stop us from entering the bay, only leaving and all I need to do is show the text chain explaining that I registered as her evacuation team" says Lola as Dana skillfully enters the bay with several yachts in tow
"state your purpose yacht group, this is a military base and its on lockdown until the tsunami has passed" says Navy command officer Dean Johnson
"we're here to evacuate the at risk teens, the Valentine boat that I'm in has been registered as the evacuation yacht of Ruby Padrón, her mother and Ruby's girlfriend" says Dana
"you're granted entry but you have a limited time to board those you're cleared to evacuate and leave before the tsunami blocks you in, however above your already agreed to deals we're willing to let people willing to evacuate the opportunity to leave with you guys if you have room" says Randy as his daughter pipes up
"will do dad" says Ellie Victoria as the yachts head to the pick up point
"Ellie since when do we own a yacht" says Randy suspicious of his daughter
"it's my yacht sir, I'm Ellie's girlfriend, I'm sorry that this is how we has to meet but my dad owns all these yachts except for Miss Valentine's and when Dana informed us of the evacuation need we got here quickly" says Paige Smith

"yes, he's a humanitarian despite being extremely rich, we've participated in many shore evacuations ever since I was little, he always taught me to look out for those who are in need, yes Charlie let people in, we don't have much time" says Paige
"get going then, do you guys have enough food for them, it will likely be a few days until we can cancel the evacuation order" says Randy
"I made a humanitarian call to Sacramento Randy, they' got a medium barge full of food and fuel and are going around the backside of the tsunami, hurry up Lola get them onboard, we're the slowest of the bunch" says Cat
"ok they're in, we're heading off now to the rendezvous point Paige, meet us there" says Dana pushing full power to the engines as they get out of the pier as quickly as possible
"I'm surprised you'd come to help us Valentine, your Aunt hasn't been so kind to us" says Maria
"I don't talk to that particular aunt, she's pretty racist, I don't talk to much of my family anymore actually though not because I don't want to, everyone but my brother shut me out, now I'll need to interview little Ruby" says Cat

"I have three Cerebral Palsy models in Italy, they're quite popular among the medical crowd, mind you not everyone with Cerebral Palsy gets past the interview stage, I've had to unfortunately turn away six because they couldn't do the runway, even in a wheelchair, however I do send them money to help continue their therapy sessions so that one day I can say yes to them when they show up for an interview and I explicitly told them that much" says Cat

"yes, she's quite adept at it and she's at the top of her online classes, the teachers are in constant shock at how well she understands things, there's this theory among elitist teachers that people with Cerebral Palsy are dumb, Ruby is anything but dumb, she's very smart and has been helping me with my taxes for three years and the government has actually come to see her to congratulate her on her understanding of tax law, they told her she could be a lawyer if she wanted to when she grows up, the first words out of her mouth were 'I'd rather be a model so I can show people like me we CAN achieve our dreams', she's quite the dreamer, modelling companies have always turned her away because of the wheelchair, Dana bought us a ticket to your last minute fashion show to save the day and right the wrongs of that evil modelling agency, we were in the back and she was intensely looking at the models, dreaming that she could be one of them one day and even dancing a little in her chair because you had the music person playing her favorite music" says Maria
"I had no hand in the music choice, the models set up a playlist that starts the moment they walk out onto the runway and stops when they return, they have quite good taste" says Cat

"they passed away in the same quake that hurt Tori but they knew Jennifer was different, they didn't call it a relationship perse because of her age but a bonded pair, they've been circling each other since they first met in daycare, it was an instant connection so bonded pair actually makes more sense" says Maria

"not often, Ruby's still not comfortable with the fact that my house collapsing and killing my parents forced me to move in with her, she's used to her space now we have to share a bed, when we do kiss she initiates and that's how I want it, she deserves some control" says Jennifer

"all my models get the option of a house, regardless of age, when they're your age their family moves with them, instead of getting to spend your first three paychecks it goes towards the down payment of a house" says Cat

"that's changing, your monthly income alone will more than cover the monthly mortgage payments and your mom's getting a job as my personal chef, Dana also has the title but it often keeps her away from her girlfriend and I can't have that so your mom and Dana will be sharing the personal chef duties, she won't have a problem paying half the mortgage" says Cat
"I don't know what kind of deal you have Catarina but I certainly can't pay half a mortgage, have you seen the rates they're offering right now" says Maria
"you'll be getting a grand a day for every day you make me food, I'll be spending a lot of time on the yacht now that it's fixed so you won't be short on money anymore, as for mortgage rates the bank I use has an agreement with me that applies to my models and family of the models for the teen models I employ, a month wage as down payment and your interest rate is locked at three percent for the life of the mortgage and if Ruby choses to stay there in the event you pass away suddenly the rate stays locked for the duration of time she lives there so long as she's a model at Valentine Modelling" says Cat

"how's her fine motor control, can she sign in the small area she has, I printed a bigger signature area for her to sign if she can't" says Cat
"only her right arm has motor control issues, her doctor says it's a nerve issue, like her arm thinks she's getting hurt constantly or something while the rest of her body feels normal" says Jennifer
"Ruby, do you want the big sign here area or the small one" asks Cat as Ruby lights up and points to the small one
"not many people give her the choice, the bank she's with essentially made fun of her by pulling out a piece of paper four feet long to sign on, she signed it but felt very angry about it" says Maria as Ruby signs the contract
"she'll be using a bank I deal with for her modelling income, they're very trustworthy, you won't find a more understanding bank anywhere, however my advice is to set up a separate bank account for taxes, Ruby's income will grow as she gets older so it's best to start a saving habit now" says Cat
"buy we're twelve, why should we worry about taxes, that's for adults" asks Jennifer
"six years isn't a long time trust me, some days it feels like I was twelve only last month, I'm fairly certain that Ruby keeping you at a safe distance is based on money not her need to keep you away" says Cat
"how would you know this Catarina, sure maybe it's true but how could you know that" asks Maria as Jennifer looks upset

"at her request Jennifer, I never wanted you to think she kept secrets from you, money has always been a worry for her, she was bullied because we're poor, even with Enrique's money she was bullied because of it, people always made fun of her because they think she'd never earn a single dollar in her life, she's not entirely convinced you love her because of who she is, she's convinced you love her because she's poor like your family" says Maria

"she hasn't stopped blushing whenever you're holding her hand, she wants you to kiss her when you want to, at least in private of course but she does like it when you do" says Cat as Ruby looks nervous about her mom finding out

"you can't take care of her forever Maria and you know it, the more she can learn to rely on Jennifer the easier it will be for her IF something were to happen to you, sure it won't be a typical relationship because Jennifer will have to help Ruby quite often with things but love is love, kissing is actually the most tame thing they could be doing, its also the closest to age appropriate for them, teaching them to only do it so much at their age and where is safe are the only things you should be doing, making her scared to be herself will only end up putting a wedge between them because Ruby feels a loyalty to you as her mother and could end up putting your feelings ahead of her own" says Tori very firmly
"your dad was always the teacher in Enrique's family, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you have that tendency too but she's MY daughter" says Maria
"you know full well Enrique wouldn't want you pushing Ruby to fear you over being her true self, I'm pretty sure I know my third uncle in law better than you, if you're expecting Cat or I to not put Ruby's feelings first then you didn't deserve Enrique, all he did was come and save your damn life after Ruby was born and I've never seen someone treat a disabled child better than Enrique did, he gave Ruby the life he felt she was due, don't you dare disrespect his legacy because as far as I'm concerned Ruby is his daughter whether the law recognizes it or not and I protect family even if it means making the adults in the room angry" says Tori starting to get very angry
"Jennifer get Ruby out of here and take her down to the guest room Maria and I have to have a talk" says Lola as Jennifer understands and gets Ruby out of there

"I'm starting to understand why my aunt hates you, Ruby isn't advanced in that way, not to the extent I was, either you teach them about moderation, boundaries, age appropriate behavior in a relationship and privacy or I will and I if have to I will sue you into oblivion and get your parental rights stripped, you're lucky you can even have kids, my periods are so painful I HAVE to take birth control to stop it, if I didn't I'd be in bed writhing in pain and Ruby wouldn't have gotten her dream job as a model" says Cat as Maria backs down
"ok ok I'm sorry, it's just I was sexually hormonally advanced at her age and I was terrified that if she didn't have at least a little fear about how society would treat her that she'd end up dead, I'm just terrified for her, so what if it means I look overly protective, she's still alive and for me that's all that matters, I was the only one in my family that lived long enough to have kids, my siblings either killed themselves because of the bullying or the bullies killed them, for my mother Ruby is literally her only grandchild" says Maria

"I would if I knew how, my mother didn't really teach us any of that, she was trying to counter the bullying we received, there were few rules in my moms house, my only sisters were technically dating before they died and my mother had no problem with it so long as sex was off the table, that's why I'm overly protective and have strict rules since Jennifer moved in, I didn't want to slip up and get as bad as I was, can you teach her that stuff, I can't teach what I don't know" says Maria

"it doesn't currently have an elevator but it can be modified to have one, the shower and tub are already accessible so she can do everything herself if she's able" says Cat
"if it won't cost her much more" says Maria
"since it can be modified, it will be built into the mortgage payments, it'll be a couple hundred more a month but still entirely in budget for how much you, Ruby and Jennifer will be making" says Cat
"fair enough, would it have been damaged by the tsunami" asks Maria
"no, it has an angled outer wall that directs the water around it, the road might be damaged but it's accessible from the beach anyway so it's not much of a problem" says Cat
"I didn't know angled buildings could resist tsunamis like this" says Maria as Jennifer listens in from halfway up the stairs
"it's designed to be tsunami and earthquake resistant, if there is any damage which is technically possible depending on how hard the tsunami hit the shore, even something like cracked drywall or cracked drywall, it comes with a home insurance plan that covers that type of damage and will be replaced free of charge" says Cat
"what if the elevator gets damaged" asks Maria starting to really consider asking Cat to get it
"it has a backup generator based on solar and can resist quake damage, though it won't support a heavy electric wheelchair and Ruby however it can take her and this wheelchair and can be put on a recall mode to load the electric wheelchair automatically" says Cat
"the electronic wheelchair is actually pretty light, it's a newer model with lighter but stronger metals and according to Ruby's doctor she's not likely to gain much weight, a few pounds at best" says Maria saddened by that fact
"is Ruby not a safe weight" asks Cat
"she's seven pounds underweight and nothing I do helps, if she loses anymore she'll be stuck at home eating a pound of food just to maintain her weight and that's not a life I'd want her to live" says Maria
"luckily now that Ruby is a model she has stellar health insurance, it even covers spa days and mental health requests, that includes a day at Disneyland if she needs it, when we can return to land I can have a doctor run some tests, I was considerably underweight at her age too, five to ten pounds, you could literally see my ribs, turns out my body processes sugar at an extreme rate" says Cat
"she's not fond of doctors" says Maria
"I'll talk to her, we'll likely be stuck out here a few days anyway for safety reasons" says Cat
"you can try but she can be quite argumentative when it comes to going to the doctors" says Maria
