Room 32
Rick glances back at his friend who tried to keep a professional facade as hard as he can but even he, himself was found curious on who the two couple could be in this small town. The two high school friends exchanged stares before Rick lifts a hand to knock only pausing when the squeaky bed resided its noise out the closed doors; A woman sputtering out curses that Rick and Shane were not used to hearing.
With a bitten smile, Shane nudges Rick to knock once again and both the sheriff deputy avoided looking at the door when Rick finally knocked (quite loudly) and heard feet thumping the floors to get the door, immediately after the Sheriff Deputy knocked.
"Can I help you?" With a click of a door, it opened to reveal a pissed brunette. Her brow arched at the sight of the two police officers, "Yes?"
She stood by her door with her still fixed denim jumper and thin white button up shirt, the top of her head just reaching by Rick's nostrils; her messy hairdo tied to a bun, gave her two knuckles worth of added height but it only gave the Sheriff Deputy a chance to smell her shampoo which shockingly smelt like coconuts and vanilla despite the messy look of it. Her eyes a bit slanted and thick almond shaped, yet gave off an expressive charm that she is using now to convey her annoyance. Her cupid lips twitching a snarl, and her nostrils slightly flaring.
"Can I help you?" Maxinne asks once more, flicking a hair strand that escaped behind her ear.
"Excuse us Ma'am, but we received a complaint about noises in your apartment and we would like to speak to you and your husband about it." Shane was quick to speak behind Rick. The other Sheriff Deputy himself, a bit stunned at the woman in front of him,
But with Shane's sudden voice snapping him out, Rick remembered his job. Maxinne frowns at the information given though, "Husband? Noise complaints?— wha— What noise?"
It was a bit embarrassing to say or even innuendo yet Rick got the courage enough to clear out his throat. "The neighbors stated about constant thumping on the walls and floor, loud bed squeaking-"
"Woah woah woah!" Maxinne intervenes, even lifting her calloused hand to stop the Officer. "They're complaining about-"
Seeing how she rudely intervened, Shane speaks back, "-About your constant noises that had your neighbors learn a lot about your frenzy practices." Rick sent Shane a glance to which his high school friend shrugged off,
Maxinne scoffs, here she were already irritated first thing in the morning and the cops came with a noise complaint.
Crossing her arms over her chest, Maxinne steps to the side and letting the door open wider. "Frenzy practices? Right... why don't you both come in so I can show you exactly how frenzy my practices are?" with her rhetorical question, the two cops spoke with just a gaze but when Maxinne already hissed at them to come inside, the two went inside the apartment.
Already spending years on the field, Rick couldn't help but observe the room around. The whole place filled with different sizes of canvas and portraits, on the very corner of the room Rick took note of a canvas with filled paint balloons hanging on it— some are popped some aren't with the side having a cup for darts.
Maxinne was muttering to herself as she directed Rick and Shane towards the side of the room which they guessed would be her bedroom, at first Rick thought of a possibility of actually seeing her 'Frenzy practices' maybe a lover or a person on the other side of the room and he tried himself to push aside the disappointment he didn't know why he felt and watch as Maxinne opened her door.
Only to reveal an empty bedroom. No person in sight except for them three.
"You think I have an active sex life and wild endurance? That's Meshuggeneh!" Maxinne spats as she points towards the bed in the middle of her room, a simple nudge let out a loud squeak. "I've been trying to fix this all week but it just kept squeaking and wobbling no matter how I tried." Pushing it, the bed hit the thin walls and making a thumping noise.
The two Sheriff Deputy stupidly standing by, realizing the misunderstanding.
Maxinne sharply turning to face them, her chocolate eyes blazing in annoyance. "Well?"
Rick tried to cover his laugh with a cough and peeked at his friend, seeing Shane sputter out noises no one could understand before Rick moved back his gaze towards the bed only to make contact with her eyes that reminded him of the black coffee he takes every morning to start the day. He felt relieved.
"Don't worry, Ma'am." Rick says, with his smile. "We'll explain your situation to the neighbors to avoid further more misunderstandings and maybe suggest you to someone that could fix your bed in a nick of time."
"Finally!" Maxinne let out an exasperated breath, shaking her head as she walked out of her room to got herself a cup of coffee, "You know, this town may be small but it sure as heck makes it hard for me to determine which is a cucumber and which is a carrot— y'know what I mean?" Maxinne turned to the two cops, who watched her every move.
Shane was still quiet, stunned at the plot twist of things. And seeing how she managed to get a cop embarrassed — Maxinne was living the achievement. "Now can you both leave?" She said with a prideful grin, gesturing the painting on the side using her lips. "I still have balloons to pop and a painting to finish."
"Yes, ma'am." Maxinne's eyes turned to meet crystal blues, an interested look fell upon her face as Rick remained eye contact. "We'll let someone deal with the noisy bed and explain it to the neighborhood—"
"Yeah, you've already said that."
Rick let out a speechless breath, nodding as he clicked his lips. "Then we'll leave you to your paintings, have a good day now." Rick and Shane walked out of the apartment when Maxinne widened her eyes at them and mockingly gestured towards the door.
On their way out, Rick placed it in himself to close the door. Hearing it lock the moment it clicked shut,
Beside him, Shane let out a breath he didn't know he was keeping in. "That was some woman."
Rick unexpectedly nodded along, his gaze moving back towards the door as he and Shane left the building. Not knowing his future wife was inside popping painting balloons in her living room with an adept accuracy till her telephone rings.
"Got a job for me?"
Meshuggeneh- Crazy, ridiculous, insane.
