Chapter 3: A step back
Aquamarine/Olly's P.O.V
Ohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuuuuuuuuck!?
I'm screwed.
I'm so fucking screwed right now. Not even 5 minutes into my plan and I already fucked it up.
I really thought that this new body wouldn't be so bad, that I could find a way to make this work but nope... the universe thought it be funny to make me suffer!?
'Why did the universe decide to give me a Defective gem body!? Why!? I just got a second chance at life again and now I'm going to lose it again! What's going to happen to me!? I'm I going to be killed!? Rejuvenated!? Shattered!?' I panicked to myself as I continued to hear whispers from the Homeworld gems in the room.
I used my new found Gem knowledge to quickly put my wings away in a vain attempt to fix the problem, but it only made things worse. The whispers from the Peridot's evolved into shouting, either at me or at each other. Demantoid appears to be reading something on her holo-screen, its in a language that I cant make out. Its probably in Gem-glish or something, I don't know what the written langue here is called so I'm calling it Gem-glish for now. Actually... now that I'm on the subject... how are the Homeworld gem's speaking English in the first place? That's a one in a million coincidence right there. I know for a fact that the language they're speaking is English, but what are the chances that a random alien race can speak the same language as humans on Earth?
I put all my money on plot convenient cartoon bullshit.
...
...
...
...Wait... WHY AM I FOCUSING ON THAT INSTEAD OF THE FACT THAT IM GOING TO DIE!?
I looked towards the door that leads out of the training room and thought about running away, foregoing my three step plan. There is a chance that I can escape now if I do this correctly. I can probably use my wand to attack the 5 Peridot's and Demantoid until there forms poof, after that I can probably figure out how to use a limb-enhancer to open the door. Now that I know I'm a Aquamarine I can probably fly away from the planet without learning how to pilot a ship.
I'm so fortunate to have a body that doesn't have to breathe and can survive the cold vacuum of spac-Oh shit! Demantoid is walking towards me and she doesn't look happy!?
It appears Demantoid finished reading what was on her holo-screen and she is slowly walking towards me. I used all my restraint to not lash out at her... at least until I felt the perfect opportunity to attack. As soon as she tries anything funny it'll be time to lock in and fight for my life. Demantoid soon stopped right in front of me and we just stare at each other in uncomfortable silence. In my panic I gripped my wand slightly tighter but made no attempt to raise my weapon, Demantoid didn't seam to notice. The two of us are just standing in front of each other for what seamed like hours, the room is so quiet that you can hear a pin drop.
Right know I fell like am in a Western standoff between Demantoid and myself, both of us waiting for the non-existing clock chime to go off and start the quick draw.
Finally, Demantoid started to speak.
"Aquamarine Facet-7D6A Cut-9GS you are hear by deemed defective and by the law of the Diamond Authority you will be shattered-"
'Well shit, but I'm not going down without a fi-'
"-under normal circumstances. Luckily for you our kind and forgiving Blue Diamond has allowed you to live... for now." Demantoid sneered at me.
... I'm sorry what. I have to ask if what she said was true.
"I-I-I'm not getting shattered my Demantoid." I manage to stutter out while trying my best to not piss her off.
"(sigh) If it was up to me I would have shattered you on the spot and harvest your shards. Consider yourself lucky defect, it appears that our Diamond has grown an interest in you after watching your evaluation." Demantoid said to me in a begrudging tone.
...wait...did she just say Blue Diamond!?
"B-B-Blue D-Diamond was watching me?" I questioned Demantoid while trying my best to not go into a panic after hearing that revelation.
"Yes defect, Blue Diamond viewed your performance and found it... acceptable enough to allow you to not be shattered." She said to me as I let out a internal sigh of relief and relaxed my body. After hearing the good news I tied my wand back into a bowtie and tried to calm myself down.
'I guess everything worked out al-' Before I had the chance to reassure myself, Demantoid leaned down and butted heads with me and yelled:
"DON'T THINK YOU ARE OF THE HOOK DEFECT!? If you do anything to displease or disobey our Diamond then you will be captured and taken to our Diamond so she can personally shatter you herself!? AM-I-CLEAR!?" She screamed at me while pushing her forehead on to mine with greater force. The confidence I had to fight her and the Peridot's disappeared near instantly, I don't know how a small gem (without her limb-enhancers) can be so intimidating but she somehow pulled it off. I audibly gulped out load and responded back to her quickly.
"C-C-Crystal clear m-m-my Demantoid." Once I said that she slowly backed her head away from mine and smirked at me.
"Good. A defect like you should know your place."
'Yeaaaaaaaah Fuck You Too Bitch!' I swore to myself while trying to keep my rage and panic within. Demantoid then turned around and said to me while her back was turned:
"Now that the evaluation is complete its time to put you to work. Follow me defect, its time to take you to your new work station."
Not wanting to piss the green gem off even more I quickly follow her lead towards the exit door and noticed the Peridot's just staring at the both of us blankly.
Wow, they were so silent that I almost forgot they were there. Demantoid turned around and yelled to the Peridots:
"What are you clods doing! Get over here now!?"
After hearing Demantoid's order's the Peridot's jolted in fear and quickly walked towards us while Demantoid began opening the door with her floating limb-enhanced fingers. When the door opened all seven of us walked outside of the training room and walked deeper into the blue hallway. While walking down the long blue hallway I had a moment to myself where I could gather all of my thoughts.
'Holy shit that scared the crap out of me. I swear if I didn't have an asshole I would have shat myself, I have never been that scared in my entire life. Thank God I'm still alive right now, and as long as I follow my three step plan I still have a chance to join the rebellion.' I thought to myself while also making sure I don't bump into anyone.
'I feel so relived that I didn't have to fight them all and that the situation sorted itself out, (defeated sigh) I'd probably get my ass kicked in a 6v1. Why did I think I could fight six gems by myself? No one could have won that fight... actually... probably any other gem but me.' I contemplated to myself.
'How can I be a Crystal Gem if I'm to scared to fight just one gem. If it wasn't for the gem information imprinted in my brain I wouldn't have made it this far. The only reason why I'm alive right now is dumb luck... so I'm not going to waste it.' In that moment I felt my resolve coming back to me, stronger then it was before.
'I will get stronger! I will master this new body! I will get my happy ending!... I just need time. Hopefully I will have some alone time to train and gather information, but knowing my luck... I probably wont. My luck has been pretty bad so far and I really drew the short end of the stick on this one since my new body is considered defective, but it could've been worse. Personally I kind of like my new bat wings, it make me feel cool and unique, but the issue is that Homeworld hates what isn't considered normal.' I felt my hatred for Homeworld grow more and more alongside my resolve.
'... I will join the rebellion and take down this corrupt system. The Diamond's cant get away with all the shit they have done! Destroying planets! Killing millions of incent people and gems! Galactic genocide! Sorry Steven but I'm never going to forgive these Galactic Nazi's for what they have done. They don't deserved to be redeemed!?' After that long inner monologue we finally seamed to reach the end of the hallway and entered a small blue room with a Warp Pad on the other side of the room.
The Warp Pad above me looked beautiful and perfectly carved. The teal crystalline platform looked like the top half of a perfectly cut diamond, its edges were cut straight and flawless. The crystal platform was surrounded by six white marble Doric style pillars above a elevated white marble tile floor and there was a small set of white stairs that connects to the second story and the Warp Pad together. To reach the Warp Pad on the second floor there are two twin curved staircases that have white stone steps and a blue crystal foundation. The stairs have a black metal rail guard to prevent anyone to fall into the water fountain housed in the center of the two staircases.
Holy shit the fountain looks so good.
Its pure white marble basin looked so smooth and round that I did everything in my power to not go up and touch it. The basin has multiple Blue Diamond symbols carved on to it along with many Doric style carvings. The center piece of the fountain was a cool gray statue of Blue Diamond with her hood up. The statues arms were bent leaving the palms of the statues hands facing upwards (think White Pearl's pose) and the palms let loose a gentle stream of water that falls into the basin below. Behind the fountain on the blue crystal foundation wall of the staircase is a beautifully painted mural of Blue Diamond herself.
Who ever built this place deservers a promotion and a God damn pay raise.
I've seen many beautifully created buildings back when I was a human but this... this blew everything I've seen out of the water. Seeing this Warp Pad in person was like looking at a piece of artwork. My artistic brain couldn't help but to marvel at the craftmanship in front of me. As much as I hate Homewold and what they have done, the one good thing I can say about Homeworld is that it's architecture looks absolutely beautiful. I never really got the chance to appreciate the beautiful designs in the other rooms because I was focusing on staying alive, but now I can see the dedication and artistic creativity in front of me. The gem that made this has some real talent.
I got to remember to draw this one day.
After marveling at the Warp Pad I then realized that the Homewold gems and myself were already on top of it. Then before I knew it a white light flashed in front of me and I closed my eye's to prevent myself from going blind. When I slowly opened my eyes I found myself being carried to our destination by the Warp Pad's light, the feeling reminds me of being on a rollercoaster. Before I could observe more around me another flash of light appeared and blind sighted me. I rubbed the light out of my eyes with the sides of my gloved fists and when I looked up I saw Homeworld for the fist time.
Homeworld itself looked like a bright and beautiful futuristic city that has crystal-like buildings and inverted pyramids in various shapes and colors. There are translucent tubes connecting to many different buildings and there are floating bridges on the ground that act like roads and streets. On these "Roads" are crystal-like street lamps that help illuminate the bridges. Demantoid and her group got off the Warp Pad and I followed suit. While following the group and making sure no one was paying attention to me I took a quick peak down below the bridge platform. What I saw were multiple deep, dark, canyon sized pits that lead down into the planet's hollowed out core and I saw thousands upon thousands of "exit holes" on every wall of the pit. Who's smart idea was it to hollow out the planet and nearly destroy it for there own selfish gain.
The Diamond's of course.
After two and a half minutes of walking around Homeworld and taking in the sights (I got even more inspiration to draw) we finally reached a light blue building that is shaped like a cube. The building appears to be two stories high, has a single futuristic door, and it doesn't have any windows at all. For some reason there are two Peridot's standing guard outside the building and they appear to be talking to each other. As me and the Homewold group got closer the Peridot guards quickly stopped talking and stood in attention, Demantoid frowned and ushered me to go into the building. After I stepped inside and Demantoid followed me inside (all the Peridot's were still outside) I got the chance to look around.
The first thing I noticed was the big crystal computer on the other end of the building and next to it is a sphere shaped white chair that was floating of the ground. The chairs height is quite tall, perfect for my size. The walls of the building looked to be made out of crystals and has a nice light blue color that complimented the white tile floor, I also noticed that there looks to be some futuristic looking decorations/furniture scattered about. In the center of the room is a dark blue circular rug with multiple symmetrical blue diamond symbols. On the left side wall of the building is a painted and framed picture of Blue Diamond and on the right side of the room is a floating staircase that leads to a second floor, what's up there... I don't know. Once I was done looking looking around I turned towards Demantoid in confusion.
"Is this my work station?" I asked the green gem without stuttering.
"(sigh) No defect. This is your living quarters. Your role is to stay here and wait for future assignments. The console there (Demantoid points to the big crystal computer) will alert you whenever Blue Diamond or your higher ups request something from you, until then you are not allowed to leave. Unless you have an assignment that needs you to be out of the living quarters are you allowed to leave. If you are caught outside of this dormitory for any other reason other then assignments, you will be shattered." The green gem explained to me. I gulped at the thought of being shattered, while that happened Demantoid continued talking.
"Blue Diamond may have showed mercy in keeping you alive but don't think for a moment that our clarity doesn't despise you defect. Our Diamond doesn't want you to sully her court with your existence, hence why she ordered to keep you locked up in here until you are needed outside the facility. If you try to leave without the Diamond's or a higher ups clearance then Blue Diamond will know right away. As for how she will know it's because the two Peridot's who were waiting for us here earlier has already placed motion sensors around the outside of the building. Even if you try to fly or run away we will know and you will be shattered. Do you understand defect?"
"Y-Yes ma'am." I replied back.
"(sigh) Despite your defect Blue Diamond has granted you a standard Aquamarine's clearance, this will allow you to access multiple data files on your console. The console has a built in program that will prevent you from acquiring any data that has higher security then your own clearance. The floor above you leads to a training room where you can practice your Gem Immobilizer and has enough space for you to...fly...around. Do I need to explain everything again defect?" She asked me.
" I-I understand my Demantoid, but I do have one question." I asked softly.
"...Fine. What is it?"
"Is this building... sound proof?" I asked to the green gem. She didn't seam to be annoyed about my question and answered back:
"Yes. This building is sound proof. Is there any other questions?"
"N-No my Demantoid." I responded back, wanting her to leave quickly. Now that her job was done she started to walk towards the door but before she left she turned around and said:
"Do not disappoint the authority and if you work hard enough even a defect like you might make something of yourself." After she said that she walk out the building and shut the door. Now I'm finally alone.
Perfect.
I waited around for a good ten minutes before I started to inspect every inch of the room. I checked the room multiple times for any surveillance equipment and found none anywhere.
Good.
Once I made absolutely sure that I was alone and that there was no recording devices in the room I stated to tremble. My legs started to slowly turning into jelly and I fell down onto the floor, I tried to get back up but I couldn't stand up anymore. All the emotions and stress that I have been holding back are now opening up like a floodgate, I'm so glad that my time as a male receptionist and all the many years being in my school's Drama Club have paid off. Thanks to my acting skills I made it seam like I was a "normal" gem in the eyes of Homeworld and my time as a male receptionist helped me keep my emotions "mostly" in check and think logically.
Those two skills really helped me make it this far, but right now... my mind and body couldn't hold it in anymore.
I slowly pulled myself in a fetal position... and I stared to cry and scream.
Demantoid's P.O.V
I quickly walk down the corridor that leads to my Diamond's throne room, passing by the multiple Blue Topaz and Quartz guard's standing in perfect formation.
Flawless and perfect. Just like my Diamond.
But I failed her. The personal project that she put me in charge of and all I have to show for it are five inert gems and one defect. I have spent 100 years working on my Diamond's personal experiment, which was a way to make perfect gem's at a lower cost. My Diamond's plan was brilliant, by implanting a small portion of my Diamond's Gem Matrix's into the unformed gem's and then imbuing the same gem's with a Diamond's energy we could create a perfect gem that didn't need to absorb to much natural energy from a organic planet. If the experiment was deemed a success then the Diamond Authority can be able to mass produce perfect quality gems at a much faster rate, and the best part is by lowering the amount of organic energy it take to create a gem we can then double our gem production rate and drain planets for even more of its organic energy. This experiment could change everything we knew about Gem Production.
It could have been perfect... but in the end it all lead to nothing.
Once I was done debriefing the defect I got a personal message from my Diamond that demanded my presents in her throne room immediately. I quickly traveled to my Diamond's Palace and now I'm currently walking down the long hallway that leads to my Diamond's Throne Room. I'm terrified of what my Diamond would do to me after my recent failure, I can only pray that my Diamond will give me mercy. The guards let me into my Diamond's Throne Room and I spot my glorious Diamond sitting on her perfectly carved throne, gazing at me with anger and frustration. Her blue Peral was standing perfectly by her side and is using my Diamond's personal holo-screen to gather some files. My Diamond's Pearl then announced my arrival to my Diamond.
"Presenting Demantoid Facet-4C2B Cut-2XE, my Diamond." Once the blue Pearl announced my arrival I preformed my Diamond Authority salute and waited for my permission to speak.
"Thank you Pearl. Now Demantoid, explain to me how my experiment failed under your command." I gulped and quickly replied back.
"Yes my Diamond. The Sapphire, Emerald, Hessonite, Morganite, and Lapis Lazuli gem's couldn't handle the energy transfer and became inert and lifeless within incubation- resulting in five casualties. I believed that I have failed you at that moment, that the my 100 years of trial and error was truly for nothing, but then the sixth gem actually manage to emerge and survive. I was ecstatic, we finally manage to acquire a gem that survived passed the incubation phase, I truly thought that the Aquamarine was made perfectly. Aquamarine Facet-7D6A Cut-9GS was polite, observant, and appears to be completely loyal to you my Diamond... but that all changed after the assessment." Before I could continue more my Diamond raised her flawless giant blue hand into a wordless 'stop' gesture.
"I am well aware of the assessment Demantoid, seeing as I viewed it from your holo-screen. As much as I hate defects and off-colors I see potential in this one."
"I-I-If I may be so bold to ask, what potential do you see in the defect my Diamond." I boldly asked my Diamond.
"...There were a few moments within the evaluation where I saw the defect do something... interesting. I noticed that this defect dodge's in a way that I have never seen before, it is as if she has thought of every single possibility in an instant and acted accordingly. As you know Aquamarine's have the ability to retain and process information far better and faster then most gems, but I have never seen an Aquamarine use that skill to such a extent. I believe the defective Aquamarine is using its high processer power to slow down the world around them and deduce the best strategy to dodge or attack."
...Yes, that has to be the reason why the defective clod could dodge so perfectly! Only someone as observant and intelligent as my Diamond could figure that out.
"N-Now I see why you decided to keep that little defective clod." I stuttered back, still worried that I will be shattered for my failure.
"Correct. Now lets move on to you." I gulped loudly and bowed my head.
"I-I-I deserve any punishment you give me, my Diamond." Once I said that my Diamond thought for a moment and then started to speak again.
"Since I feel so merciful and forgiving I will not shatter you." I felt myself calm down in relief to know I wont be shattered.
"T-T-Thank y-y-you my Dia-" I was then cut off by my Diamond.
"Don't think I still wont punish you for your failure, before I do that I have some tasks I need you to complete with upmost importance." Not wanting to disobey or agitate my Diamond I quickly replied back:
"Yes my Diamond! Your word is my command!"
My Diamond seamed to like my willingness to please her and then she gave me my new tasks.
"I want you to erase all the data files of my personal experiment off of every terminal and holo-screen except for my personal file. The experiments are to be ceased immediately and I want all gems that worked on the project to be immediately Rejuvenated except for you. I personally order you to never speak of my experiment to anyone including the other Diamond's. I'm quite fortunate that very few gems know about this experiment and I don't want anyone else to know or spread news of my failure. Am-I-understood."
"Y-Yes my Diamond. I will get stared immediately." I then turned around and walked towards the door that leads out of my Diamonds royal throne room. Before I can make it out of the room I heard my Diamond say to me:
"Once you are done with all those assignment's you will then be demoted for your failure."
"B-b-But-" I tried to argue back only to be silenced by my Diamond.
"Are you questioning my authority Demantoid?" I silenced myself and didn't respond back as to not infuriate my Diamond more so.
"Good. Now go." After hearing my Diamond's order I quickly walked out of my clarity's Throne Room and heard the door shut behind me.
As I walked down the long blue hallway I began to reflect on everything that happened. I faithfully served and obeyed my Diamond without flaw, I have work over 400,00 years in her service and now I lost it all.
'And it is all because of that defect! If it wasn't for that THING then I would have lost my status!? Its that THINGS fault that I lost everything, not mine!? That little freak took everything from me and gets to live to see another planet rotation. Mark my words DEFECT, I will find a way to settle the score even if it means shattering you myself.'
There we go, another chapter is finally done. Olly lives to see another day and the plot thickens as a new villain might emerge in future chapters. I have a lot of creative ideas on what I can do for this story so please stay tuned and I'll see you all next time. Have a great day everyone.
