After seeing what happens to Deku in the latest manga chapter… damn… now I feel unoriginal.
Man…
Also... 100 Kudos on Ao3 and almost 100 favorites on FF! I'm glad you guys are enjoying this ugly thing I created! I would kiss you all but... no... Or maybe... ;)
Anyway.
Enjoy.
These types of scenes aren't that rare in this world. Compared to before reincarnating, violence of this level was so commonplace that she got desensitized to it, which is quite an achievement since she used to always feel queasy when seeing way less.
But seeing it in person instead of through a screen is different.
The weight of the monster was slowly crushing Aizawa's legs, and the way it squeezed his bent arm… It was a wonder how it was later healed. Truly the power of modern medicine and quirks.
She had to wonder… 'How much must that hurt? What if that was me?' An intrusive thought, but a common one between Heroes and Hero students. And how wouldn't it be? With this line of work, the possibility of a dreadful injury is more than real. Expected even.
"Kei?! Kei! Snap out of it!" Hagakure yelled. Seeing how she didn't respond, she went for the next best thing. Slapping her in the head.
"Ouch! What was tha-? Ah… Sorry… it's just…" Kei said, feeling bad for spacing out in this situation.
"It's ok, just don't scare me like that…"
She scanned her surroundings and noticed how, in the flood zone, Midoriya and Asui seemed to be struggling to beat their villains. No one, from what she could see, was doing amazing. But the frog and protagonist were especially in a pinch.
Looking behind her was Todoroki, who seemed to be interrogating one of the villains. "I want to be a hero, but heroes don't do such horrible things." He had frozen one of the villains.
"Todoroki," Kei called. He looked back at Kei, waiting. "I need you to help me here" He nodded and approached her. "I want you to go help Midoriya and Asui. At this rate, help won't come in time for them,"
"What about you?"
"I'll go help Aizawa."
"!... But what about that creature? You can't fight that, and you know it. I can help you." He said, worried. His face didn't show it, but he did care… a little… especially now that he saw her as a potential rival. Someone who can exploit his issues is a great stepping stone to becoming stronger. 'Then I can show that bastard fa… Not now'
"I don't plan on actually fighting that thing, only stopping it from doing more damage. Help should be coming soon anyway, I just need to hold on for a little," She reassured Todoroki. "Toru, are you okay with staying here?" She looked at Hagakure, who was lightly kicking one of the still-awake Villains.
"No probs here! If anyone tries to escape, I can just…" She crouched, then chopped the villain in the neck. He instantly fell unconscious. "Do this!" She said, doing a peace sign.
'She… shouldn't be underestimated…' Both Kei and Todoroki thought in unison.
"Okay, grab on to this." A platform with a pole for grabbing appeared in front of him. He hesitantly stepped in. "I have a limited range, so once I can't control it anymore, I'll throw you towards the water. You should yell for Asui to grab you,"
"... Is this safe?"
"No." Blunt. Straight to the point. No reason to sugarcoat it. It IS incredibly unsafe. But what other options do they have? "Anyway, I'll follow behind you." She said, making herself her own platform and stepping onto it.
All around the landslide zone, sand started to lift from the ground, forming a sandstorm bigger than she had ever made before.
Sweat dripped from Kei's forehead, both from nervousness and the strain she was putting on her quirk. She knew she couldn't hold back in this situation, but killing was out of the question. She was a hero student after all. Even in this situation, killing could very well mean the end of her career before it even began. It could also derail the story more than she felt comfortable with.
With a burst of speed, both hero students approached the fight.
~1-B Classroom~ ~Minutes before~
Yui was looking to the front of the class, not really listening to what her teacher, The Blood Hero: Vlad King, was talking about.
Apparently, class B has a history of being the less popular of the two first-year hero classes. 'That's probably because A is the first one to be mentioned in all events' She didn't care that much about the rivalry between classes A and B; the same could not be said about some of her classmates, though. After all, popularity is a big thing in hero work.
"We'll be upping the training for the sports festival. This time, 1-B will be the class on top! I'm tired of my B always being the one in the background… Ghh, they even get to use the U.S.J. first! Thi-" A ring came from the hero's desk, his phone. "Sorry, let me take this." The hero took the phone. Instantly, his expression changed to tense. Something was happening. "The U.S.J...?! I'm going right away…!" He hung up and got ready to run. "Stay here. I can't tell you much, but there's been an emergency. Don't go out of the classroom," Vlad said, before bolting out of the classroom.
'Emergency? He said something about U.S.J…. Isn't that where 1-A is? He looked really tense…' She thought.
"I wonder what happened…" Awase said.
The class stayed in silence for a while, before it was broken by Tsuburaba. "Should I go look?"
"No. The teacher said to stay here," Their class president, Itsuka Kendo, said in a stern voice.
"Ok…" Tsuburaba said, dejected. No one could go against Kendo.
Sounds of running were heard coming from the outside. "Hey, look over there!" Bondo said. Everyone approached the window and saw how multiple heroes, including their teacher, rushed to a parked vehicle and hastily got in it, before speeding off.
Moments later, the alarm resounded through the building.
"Security level 3 has been broken."
'Infiltrators?!' She tried to rush out of the classroom, but was instantly stopped by a massive hand.
"Where are you going?" Kendo said, this time with a more gentle voice. She tried to respond, but was stopped by Setsuna.
"Relax; she's going to be okay." She said.
She, again, tried to protest. It was obvious something incredibly serious was going on, something that warranted most of the heroes on the staff to leave their activities and rush off. But what could she do? She has seen the layout of U.A., U.S.J. is really far away, there's no way she could get there in time. The best thing she could do was leave it to the professionals. 'But still!...' She slumped, incapable of coming up with something to say.
"Don't worry, she's going to be okay," Neito said. "She's not stupid enough to get herself in trouble,"
Somehow, that didn't reassure Yui at all.
~Flood Zone~
Todoroki felt as if his insides were twisting. The sudden increase in velocity made him almost throw up on the spot and shower whoever was unlucky enough to be below him at the moment with vomit, but he powered through it, he could vomit all he wanted later. It didn't feel good at all, though.
He was rapidly approaching the flood zone. Soon, he was violently thrown into the air. He rapidly located Asui and yelled for his life. "Asui! Grab me!" That instantly caught the attention of the frog girl, who released her tongue and wrapped it around Todoroki's waist, pulling him to the ship.
"Todoroki?! What are you doing here?!" Midoriya yelled, startled by the sudden appearance of the teen.
"Inari sent me to help." He said, then sent a wave of ice at a villain who was climbing the ship, freezing him on the spot. "I'm freezing them." A carefully held-back blast of ice froze all of the villains on the spot, he did not want to give them frostbite after all.
Sometimes the best solution is the simplest.
"Look out for any stragglers, I only froze the ones on the front," He said. As if on cue, a fish villain rushed at Midoriya, but was swatted away by Asui.
A couple more villains kept coming from the ship's other side but were frozen or swatted into the ice below by Asui.
"I think that's all of them…" Asui said, still on edge and looking around for any leftover villains. "What now?"
"We have to help Inari! She's in trouble!" Midoriya yelled. The two students looked at the center of the facility, where the main fight was happening. It was too far away to discern, but the red coming from Kei's eyes and mouth alerted the teens. "She's hurt!"
Before they could do anything, the Nomu bolted at Kei at incredible speeds.
~Central Plaza~ ~A little bit before~
After sending Todoroki flying toward the flood zone, Kei approached the center of U.S.J. as fast as she could. 'I'm really pushing myself here, but I can't let them see me; else I'll be decayed, or that thing kills me instantly.' She started thinking about her plan. It was incredibly reckless to fight the Nomu, but she didn't have any intentions of fighting it, only stopping it enough until help came. 'That thing is resistant to punches and blunt force in general, but sharp things should still damage it… Though I'm sure it will regenerate after a while… If it's like that…'
A thick sandstorm covered the central plaza, startling Shigaraki and Aizama. The Nomu did not react. 'That idiot! What is she doing here?!'
"Who's there?! Cheater! Come out!" Shigaraki yelled.
'Man child…' Kei thought. She sent chains to restrain the villain, but they were instantly decayed by him. 'His arms it is then,' Chains wrapped around the villain's arms and legs, sending him to the ground.
"Gahhh! Release me! Cheater! Cheater! Cheater!" He kept yelling. "Nomu! Find and kill that bastard!" The Nomu stood up and walked around, looking for the fox girl, but it could not find her.
At the same time it stood up, Kei sent multiple chains to bind the Nomu. Two of those chains grabbed onto its upper and lower beak, keeping it open. 'Now!' A portion of the sandstorm was sent inside the Nomu's mouth. Once inside the stomach, the glass turned into a sharp spike of glass that pierced the Nomu's back, shattering its spine and making the Nomu fall face first… but…
'Fuck! Why is that monster so sturdy?! It took so much strength for only one spike!' Instantly after, it's spine started to regenerate, breaking the spike. 'That fast?! No!' More sand was sent inside the monster's stomach, and more spikes pierced its back, but instantly after, it started regenerating. "Stop… regenerating!" Blood started to come out of her eyes and mouth. 'Blood?! Is this a drawback?!' She coughed, and more blood came out.
Her control of the sandstorm was rapidly waning, and soon enough, she was visible to the villains. Instantly after, a tiny portal appeared behind her, and a pair of hands came out. 'Ah…' The hand touched the back of her head.
…
But nothing happened.
"Huh… I thought at this point you would've passed out, Aizawa… how cool you are." Shigaraki said, looking at Aizawa with slight irritation.
Kei couldn't move from her position, or else the Nomu would start moving again. "Ghhh…! Just… stop resisting!" She yelled.
"It's no use; Nomu only listens to me." The hand man said.
A mass of black and purple appeared beside Shigaraki. "Tomura Shigaraki. We have to go; one of the students escaped."
"Hmm… Kurogiri… I'd turn you to dust if you weren't my escape ticket… I can't even scratch myself, for fuck's sake!" He started to writhe in discomfort and frustration.
At that moment, the Nomu finally liberated itself from its chains and bolted at max speed at Kei. 'Ah, I'm dead…' She was slowly losing consciousness from overusing her quirk; the taste of metal filled her mouth. She had lost control of her quirk.
The Nomu's fist approached her head. At this point, she didn't have enough strength to move, she could only watch as the monster flew at her in slow motion. 'Heh… Just like that car…' Resigning herself to her demise, she closed her eyes…
A sudden burst of speed brought her out of her acceptance. "Just… in time!" came a voice she knew, and if the voice wasn't enough to identify the person, the massive mass of muscle that were the man's arms and his imposing presence surely would be.
That was the last thing she saw before everything went black.
With this chapter, we finished what is season 1 of the anime and chapter 21 of the manga. Yay! Finally! The next chapter I think would be more chill before the sports festival. A nice way to finish off 10 chapters.
I'm not sure about this chapter… It just doesn't feel as good as the others. I don't know what it's missing. Maybe I'm going too fast? This and the last chapter are only a little bit more than 4000 words, though I don't know how I would've made it longer. Maybe I have to get better at writing fights? If it's like that, the sports festival is gonna be horrible to write. I'll do my best.
Why would she be bleeding as a drawback to her quirk?
…
What? Do you think I know? Of course, I do.
But I'm not telling you :)
We needed someone who bled when overusing their quirk with the loss of Mineta… Broccoli doesn't count. (This is not the actual reason though)
As I've already clarified in the first chapter (I think), this fanfic will mostly follow canon, with some changes. Obviously, there will be changes here and there and things like the internships will have to be completely original, but it will still follow the general direction of canon… mostly… hehe…
Anyway, while I was thinking of what to change, my thoughts landed on the current arc of the manga. I was wondering what Kei would be doing during that arc… and honestly I'm not completely sure… but an idea came to my mind, something so batshit crazy that I just have to note it down somewhere for later.
I don't know if I'll ever get there, but I will sure try.
It will be related to something that will happen in a future arc. (Yes, surprisingly enough, I have thought at least a bit ahead)
In other news, unrelated MoG… I bought the Monogatari novels! I was lucky that someone in my city was selling the season 1 box. I really like how they are written… Maybe I should take inspiration from them to better my writing? I definitely should.
It was too late when I noticed the Omake could also be seen… in another way… It's cute so I don't care.
Thanks for reading this chapter.
~How they met~ ~Omake~
It was a normal day for Takumi. A normal, boring day.
The teacher, as always, was teaching the students with as much enthusiasm as one would have learning a subject one isn't interested in. The day was sunny… Way too sunny. The reflection of the sun was going straight to his eyes. And his seatmate was intently looking at him- or his tail to be exact, not even putting an iota of attention on the teacher.
He never said anything about her intense staring, it was normal coming from most people. 'I mean, who wouldn't appreciate this perfect tail! I wake up 2 hours before than anyone just to brush it to perfection!' He thought with pride. 'But… This is just too much! It's literally every day, every hour of the day! I can even feel her staring when in recess! What's her deal?!'
"Hm? Ah, it seems our time got cut short. Anyway, remember to study for next week's exams." The teacher said, seeming a bit happier now that the class ended.
The students stood up and left the classroom, leaving Takumi and the weird girl alone.
"..."
"..."
"... What do you want?" He asked
"Hm? Ah… Eh…" She kept staring at his tail as it gently swayed from left to right. "Can I… Can I touch it?" She asked, seeming embarrassed, but also expectant.
"Hah?"
"It's ok if you don't want to! It's just…" Her sight fell once again on his tail.
"... I guess… You can…" He said. 'What?! Why am I letting this weird girl touch my tail?! I don't even know her!'
"I can? Yay!" She said, raising her hands in celebration.
Takumi hesitantly turned to let his tail face Mayumi. "... Thank you very much!" She said, before putting one of her hands on the fluff.
'So soft…' She put her other hand on the tail. 'Wow…' From just touching, she could tell that Takumi spent a lot of time taking care of his tail, every single strand of hair was soft to the touch. When she ran her fingers through it, it never got caught in tangled hairs.
"Anyway… At least tell me your name." Takumi said, even though she could barely see it from her position, she was sure he was blushing.
'Cute…'
"Mayumi. My name is Mayumi."
