Maybe I needed this vacation, because let me tell you, the fishing near Silvermoon was not living up to my expectations. And that's saying something, considering I used to live in Shattrath city and hated fishing there too. I had hoped Vindicator Boros would give me some insider information on where to find the elusive shield I'm searching for, but instead I caught him chatting it up with his Aldor buddies like they were having a grand old time. I tried to rush him, but he just kept putting his finger up like, "hold on one second". And let me tell you, listening to a bunch of Draenei talk in their native tongue is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
I think some kid asked me to kill some aggressive fish or something in exchange for a fishing rod, but I never even used it. Until today, when I realized my blood elf presence was definitely not helping my bodyguard and sword and shield trainer find this dang shield any faster. So I did what any sane person would do - I dug out the dusty old fishing rod from my safe deposit box and tried to put my skills to use. Of course, the trolls at the garrison showed me all these fancy techniques that probably don't even apply in Outland. But hey, it gave me something to do while waiting for the fishies to bite.
You know, looking back on my life right now, it's pretty good. And I'm gonna write that down so I can remind myself to be grateful later when shit inevitably hits the fan. Because let's be real, every human I've ever met has been a self-righteous zealot ready to stomp on anyone who doesn't fit their mold. But you know what they can't ruin? Fishing. They won't even come close to ruining my fishing experience. There's just something so serene about being out on the water or by the lake, listening to the sounds of nature and feeling the wind in your hair. And it's not even boring, because there's always that thrill when a fish bites and you have to use all your skills and strength to reel it in. It's like a battlefield out there, but with fish instead of enemies. Some fish will break your line, some might even break your pole, but it's all part of the adventure.
Although I do admit, sometimes it's nice to have someone else there with you. Just as long as they understand the unspoken rule of fishing - no unnecessary talking while we wait for the fish to bite. Seriously, it throws off our zen.
But hey, I can't help but wonder how fun it would be to go on a fishing expedition with big nets or trap cages and catch loads of fish. My grandpa tried to teach me about sailing once, but that was on a dinky little boat. Not a full-on ship with a whole crew and everything. Maybe one day...
One time I got one on the line and it got eaten by a wild bird of prey which was pretty interesting. It kind of made me wish I knew a few things about hunting so I could have tamed that bird. I wish I had more to write about but today was a pretty boring day and I didn't really talk to anyone. This place was nowhere near as busy when I was fourteen, but I think I could use the down time. No demons, no undead, no deranged personnel trying to kill me, and no vengeful members of the Alliance trying to stab me in the back. Just fresh air, cool breeze, wild animals, and fish. I was able to sustain myself by scaling and cooking fish. Just started a fire, skewered the fish through the mouth and let it roast. It made shades of blue when I ate it. I really wish I had some steamed rice to put the fish in. I get flashes of white in front of my eyes when something I'm about to eat is rotten, black if it's over cooked and green in the corners of my field of vision if it's poison. Now that I think about it there were no demons in Nagrand, I think I remember the Burning Crusade having a few outposts somewhere, but I haven't seen any today. Maybe I should make plans to put my retirement house here in Outland, it's actually very relaxing.
