Chapter 4:Tropical Resort - Act 3
Deep within Tropical Resort, near the glowing neon Ferris Wheel, Doctor Eggman sat impatiently in his hovering Eggmobile, surveying his latest haul of captured alien creatures. They wriggled helplessly inside small, clear transparent containers, glowing faintly with their unique energy.
"...23, 24, 25…" Eggman counted aloud, but his face quickly twisted into a scowl. "Bah! Not nearly enough aliens!" he shouted, slamming his fist down in frustration.
From below, Orbot and Cubot stood dutifully beside the trapped creatures, looking up at their irritable boss.
"Want us to get more?" Orbot asked, his robotic tone neutral.
Eggman's glare sharpened as he leaned over the edge of his Eggmobile.
"No, I want you to get me a cheeseburger and a shake," he snapped sarcastically.
Completely missing the sarcasm, Cubot, still stuck in his ridiculous cowboy drawl, chimed in.
"That'll be easier! Cheeseburgers don't run as fast as them lil' alien varmints."
"IDIOT!" Eggman roared, throwing his arms up in exasperation. "Get me more aliens!"
Orbot and Cubot exchanged quick, awkward glances. Something had been off with their boss ever since he returned. Sure, Eggman was always a bit unhinged, but now… there was an unsettling edge to his behavior, like the darkness had warped him, or worse, become a part of him.
Whether it was the influence of that dark realm or just plain bad indigestion, neither robot could be sure. But they knew one thing—Eggman's temper had gone from bad to downright terrifying.
"Are you going to stand there like malfunctioning morons," Eggman barked, his voice dripping with venom, "or are you going to get me more aliens?!"
Orbot nodded quickly and nudged Cubot. The two robots turned and began to float away, though Cubot couldn't resist a grumble. He still didn't seem to grasp the gravity of the situation, his cowboy voice echoing back.
"Y'all want fries with that?" Cubot asked, tilting his head up toward Eggman.
Eggman's patience finally snapped. With a furious growl, he grabbed a wrench and hurled it at Cubot's head. The wrench bounced off the robot with a metallic clang, making a sharp twang sound as it ricocheted.
"OHH… I reckon' that hurt a bit…" Cubot said, his head wobbling from the impact. He began to wander off in the wrong direction, mumbling to himself. "Wait a minute! I need to go over yonder! Heh, sorry."
As the robots seemed to have disappeared from view, Eggman lowered his Eggmobile until it hovered just above the ground. He leaned forward, his eyes narrowing as he turned his attention back to the trapped alien creatures.
"Hmm… precious little aliens…" he murmured, his voice dripping with a strange, sinister glee. "With your Hyper-go-on power and the darkness of the Heartless, I'll become unstoppable! And I know I say that every time," he added, his voice taking on a manic edge, "but this time, really—nothing will stop me!"
Just then, as Orbot was about to hover away, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"Eh, boss..." Orbot said, his voice carrying an unusual hint of nervousness.
"What now?" Eggman grumbled, not even bothering to look at first, too engrossed in his frustration.
But as the doctor finally glanced in the direction Orbot was staring, his eyes widened from under his glasses, and he nearly leapt out of his seat, leaning forward over the console of his Eggmobile.
"Sonic?!" Eggman muttered in disbelief, his voice faltering.
Indeed, standing a short distance away, arms casually crossed and a confident smirk on his face, was the blue blur himself.
"Long time no see, Egghead!" Sonic remarked, his tone light and full of attitude.
But Sonic wasn't alone. In a flash of light, Captain Marvel descended from above, landing next to the hedgehog with effortless grace. Her aura flickered with energy as she stood tall, eyes fixed on Eggman and his two bumbling robots.
"You!" Eggman barked, his frustration bubbling over as he jabbed a finger toward Carol. "You're that flying nuisance who's been assaulting my Heartless security team!"
"If those shadowy blobs are your idea of protection, you might wanna ask for a refund, Eggman," Carol replied sarcastically.
Sonic snickered beside her, clearly enjoying the banter, while Orbot and Cubot exchanged glances. Orbot was the first to speak, his tone dry as ever.
"To be fair, boss, the Heartless didn't exactly perform at peak security standards—"
Cubot, still in his cowboy voice, added cheerfully, "Yeah, they went down like flies! Not very secure-like, if you ask me!"
Eggman's face turned beet red as he flailed his arms at the two robots.
"Shut up, both of you!" he snapped, glaring at them before turning his furious gaze back to Sonic and Carol.
Sonic shook his head, composing himself with his usual cocky demeanor, eyes locked on Eggman in his Eggmobile.
"So, Egghead... you weren't terminated after all?" Sonic quipped, leaning back casually. "Welcome back, I guess..."
"Wait a minute—terminated?" Carol asked, turning her head down to Sonic.
"Long story short," Sonic began, rubbing the back of his head as he searched for the right words, "we thought he was, well..."
Cubot, ever the helpful and clueless, interjected with his cowboy drawl.
"Six feet under?" he suggested. "Gone to meet his maker? Kicked the bucket?"
Sonic shot him a quick look and then shrugged.
"Yeah, I guess we can go with those," he admitted, smirking. "But, here he is, back from wherever he was…"
Eggman's mustache twitched in irritation as he straightened up in his Eggmobile.
"Ahem! That was all a gross exaggeration, you insufferable hedgehog! I am very much alive, and better than ever! You'll see soon enough that you're no match for my genius!" Eggman boomed, his mustache twitching with pride.
"Whatever you say, Egghead!" Sonic replied with a shrug, his usual smirk never wavering.
Carol, however, wasn't as amused. Her attention shifted to the trapped alien creatures nearby, their faint glowing forms wriggling in their capsules. Her eyes narrowed as she turned her intense gaze toward Eggman, her posture firm and unyielding. Even Eggman, usually full of bluster, seemed to squirm under the weight of Captain Marvel's glare.
"Why are you staring at me like that, blondie?" Eggman demanded, his voice cracking with frustration.
Carol took a slow, deliberate step forward, her aura beginning to glow with radiant energy.
"Release those creatures, now" she said, her tone firm and uncompromising. "Or I'll do it for you."
Eggman burst into laughter, waving a dismissive hand.
"Oh please! You think you can intimidate me?" he mused. "I'm Doctor Eggman! What are you going to do—glare me into submission?"
A small smirk crept across Carol's face.
"Alright, you asked for it," she declared.
In the blink of an eye, Captain Marvel became a streak of light. Like a comet, she shot toward the capsules, her energy blazing as she smashed through them one by one with incredible speed and precision. Each container shattered in a flash of cosmic energy, releasing the grateful alien creatures, who floated away, chirping excitedly.
Eggman's eyes bulged as he watched his precious aliens slip out of his grasp.
"My aliens! NO!" he shouted out.
Orbot, ever the voice of dry humor, commented, "Well, boss, she did say she'd do it for you."
"Y'all want some duct tape for them broken pods?" Cubot added with a chipper tone.
"See, Eggster? She did try to warn you," Sonic admitted with a smirk.
Carol hovered back to Sonic's side, crossing her arms as she looked up at Eggman with a knowing grin. She didn't need to say a word—her confidence alone was enough to get under his skin.
Seething with rage, Eggman slammed his fists onto the console of his Eggmobile.
"I've had enough of this! Orbot! Release the Big Boy!" he declared loudly. "I know he won't screw up destroying Sonic—and this freak of nature!"
With his command declared, Eggman's Eggmobile shot up into the sky, hovering just long enough for him to leave with one last remark.
"Hasta la bye bye, suckers!" he cackled as he zoomed off, vanishing into the distance.
Sonic and Carol watched him disappear, then slowly turned their attention to the two bumbling robots left behind. Orbot and Cubot stood there, looking completely lost for a moment, unsure of what to do without direct supervision.
Orbot blinked, clearly exasperated by the chaos.
"Well, that was... unexpected," he admitted.
Cubot, still stuck in his cowboy persona, scratched his head.
"What in tarnation does 'release the Big Boy' even mean?" he asked. "Ain't no button here for that."
Orbot sighed, clearly irritated.
"Of course there's no button for it, Cubot. You've got to invoke it," he explained.
"Invoke it?" Sonic asked.
Orbot straightened up, looking a little too proud.
"The Big Boy lies within the grand Ferris Wheel! To invoke it, we must... shout," the robot explained further.
Cubot immediately perked up, his eyes glinting with enthusiasm.
"Ooooh! I love shoutin'!" Cubot turned to face the massive Ferris Wheel that loomed over the area, cupping his metal hands around his blue led mouth. "HEY, BIG BOY! GET THEM VARMINTS!"
"Oh, this is gonna be good," Sonic muttered.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake violently. The neon lights of the Ferris Wheel flickered wildly, and with a loud metallic screech, the entire ride began to transform. The brightly colored carts detached and spun off, revealing a massive, mechanical monstrosity rising from the center. The Ferris Wheel itself became a new mech, The Rotatatron. The machine had a red-colored behemoth with a single large, glowing yellow eye at its center. Its body expanded outward, forming an enormous face plate that opened like a stylised sun, with sharp, blue and magenta triangular covers snapping into place. It had two giant, razor-clawed hands connected by long, grey appendages.
The glowing eye, now fixated on Sonic and Carol, pulsed with energy. The Rotatatron roared to life, swinging its massive claws menacingly.
Cubot, now suddenly realising what they'd unleashed, backed up nervously.
"Uh... we done called the Big Boy... reckon' we should skedaddle?" Cubot suggested.
"Yes, Cubot. Skedaddle," Orbot confirmed.
The two robots zipped away as fast as their circuits would allow, leaving Sonic and Carol standing before the enormous mechanical threat.
Sonic cracked his knuckles, looking up at the massive machine.
"Well, guess we found out what Egghead meant by Big Boy." He grinned, ever the optimist. "Looks like a fun challenge."
Carol's eyes glowed faintly as she hovered just above the ground, sizing up the Rotatatron.
"I've seen bigger," she said with a smirk, her aura flaring slightly as she prepared for battle. "You ready, hedgehog?"
"Oh, you know it. You think this thing's tough enough for us?" Sonic remarked, ready for action.
Carol gave him a sideways glance.
"I think we're about to find out," she affirmed.
The two of them exchanged nods, their confidence infectious as they hyped each other up for the fight.
"Let's see what this 'Big Boy' can do," Sonic said, already charging up for his next attack.
Carol floated higher, her energy crackling around her.
"Yeah. Let's take this thing down!" She declared.
Rotatatron
Battle Music: Vs. Rotatron - Sonic Colors
The towering Rotatatron loomed over Sonic and Captain Marvel, its massive circular body spinning with a menacing hum. The neon lights from the amusement park reflected off its metallic surface, giving it an eerie glow. Its yellow eye, the obvious weak point, glared down at them, pulsing ominously with dark energy. Two massive claws, each the size of a car, swung violently as the mech began its attack.
"Well, this thing's friendly," Sonic quipped, quickly darting to the side to avoid the first swipe of the massive claws.
The claws hit the ground with a resounding crash, sending cracks through the plaza floor. Captain Marvel hovered in mid-air, her eyes narrowing as she watched the machine's movements.
"Watch those claws, hedgehog," Carol shouted, dodging effortlessly as the second claw came crashing down.
She retaliated, her fists glowing with radiant Binary Energy, and unleashed several energy blasts at the machine. The blasts struck its rotating body, causing sparks to fly, but the damage was minimal.
The Rotatatron, unfazed, spun faster, its claws now swinging wildly in wide arcs that covered a significant area of the battlefield. Sonic zipped around in bursts of blue light, dodging each swipe with ease. He glanced up at Carol, who was gracefully dodging attacks from above while countering with precision strikes.
"Okay, those claws are getting in the way," Sonic shouted as he leaped over another claw swipe. "But that eye—that's gotta be our target!"
Carol nodded in agreement, "Got it. I'll keep it distracted. You focus on that weak spot."
As Rotatatron continued its barrage, the ground shook from the force of its blows. The machine's eyes opened wider, revealing the vulnerable yellow core within. Carol took the opportunity to unleash another volley of energy blasts, aiming for the eye. Her blasts struck true, causing the Rotatatron to let out a mechanical roar, momentarily halting its attack.
Sonic saw his chance. With a burst of speed, he launched into the air, homing in on the glowing eye with a series of rapid Homing Attacks. Each hit caused the eye to flicker, and the Rotatatron staggered slightly, its movements becoming slower.
Suddenly, the mech's body darkened as it gathered dark energy, sending waves of black pulses across the ground. Sonic dashed to avoid the energy waves while Carol, still in the air, created an energy shield to block the incoming darkness.
"This thing's got some Heartless tricks up its sleeve!" Sonic called out, narrowly avoiding another shockwave.
Carol deflected the incoming energy blasts with ease.
"I've seen worse!" she shouted back. "Let's just take this thing down before it gets any more ideas!"
The Rotatatron, though slowed down by the damage it had taken, wasn't done yet. Its yellow eye flickered, but its claws began rotating faster, forcing Sonic and Carol to stay on the defensive. The Heartless-infused energy surged through the machine, and with a loud mechanical groan, several Neoshadows materialised on the nearby platforms, their glowing yellow eyes fixating on the two heroes.
"Looks like the welcoming committee's here!" Sonic quipped.
The Neoshadows leapt from the platforms, claws outstretched, but Sonic was quicker. He bounced between them using rapid Homing Attacks, sending them flying into black wisps of darkness. Each strike was met with precision as he tore through the enemies, his movements a blur of blue energy.
Meanwhile, Carol handled the Neoshadows on the platforms higher up. She blasted several of them out of existence, her glowing fists making short work of the dark creatures.
The two heroes cleared the platforms in no time, but the Rotatatron wasn't giving them a break. It slammed its claws into the ground, creating another wave of dark shockwaves. Carol flew higher, dodging the attack, while Sonic slid underneath a platform to avoid the impact.
Just then, Sonic spotted something glowing in the distance—a cyan creature, trapped in a containment pod that had been hidden behind some debris. His eyes lit up with excitement.
"Carol! Cover me, I'm going for something special!" Sonic called as he dashed toward the pod.
With a quick nod, Carol kept the Rotatatron busy, firing concentrated energy blasts at its rotating body to create an opening for Sonic. As she hammered the mech with blows, the yellow eye flickered again, momentarily distracted by the assault.
Sonic reached the pod, smashing it open with a swift spin attack. The creature floated out, chirping in gratitude before merging with Sonic's body. His entire form glowed cyan as the Wisp's power surged through him.
"LASER!" the voice echoed as Sonic transformed into a streak of blinding cyan light, ricocheting off the platforms with incredible speed.
The hedgehog zipped through the Rotatatron's dark energy, cutting through the darkness with his Cyan Laser form.
Sonic blasted through the air, aiming directly for the Rotatatron's yellow eye. The laser-like speed allowed him to tear through the protective dark energy surrounding the eye, hitting it with full force. The Rotatatron reeled from the blow, its mechanical form jerking violently as the eye flickered with damage.
"Now we're making progress!" Sonic shouted, his voice filled with excitement as he returned to his normal form.
The Rotatatron, though visibly weakened, wasn't finished yet. It let out a mechanical roar, preparing for its final phase, the dark energy gathering around it in desperation as its movements became more erratic.
"One more good hit, Sonic!" Carol shouted, her voice firm as she hovered above, fists clenched and glowing with cosmic energy. "We've got this thing on the ropes!"
The Rotatatron roared mechanically as its body flickered with unstable dark energy. Its yellow eye glowed brighter than ever, but its movements became more erratic, driven by desperation. Dark pulses erupted from its body, spreading in unpredictable waves, while its claws flailed wildly, slamming into the ground with crushing force.
Sonic, still crackling with residual energy from the cyan creature, dodged the chaotic attacks with ease, dashing left and right to avoid the dangerous shockwaves.
"I'll keep it busy! You ready for the big finish?" Sonic called up to Carol, his voice full of determination.
"You got it!" she replied, her eyes narrowing on the spinning monstrosity.
Carol darted forward, charging head-on toward the Rotatatron, her body blazing with radiant binary energy. She slammed into the rotating arms, breaking one of the claws off with sheer brute force, sending sparks and metal flying into the air. The Rotatatron reeled from the impact, its once-lethal arm now hanging uselessly by its side. But it wasn't done yet—the remaining claw swung toward Carol in a final, desperate attack.
"Now or never!" Sonic remarked, seeing his moment.
the hedgehog jumped high into the air and activated the Cyan Laser once again, transforming into a streak of light.
"LASER!" the voice echoed once more as Sonic blasted across the arena, dodging the dark energy projectiles and zipping straight toward the Rotatatron's exposed eye.
With perfect timing, Sonic ricocheted between the floating platforms, gaining momentum with each bounce before delivering a direct hit to the Rotatatron's yellow eye. The attack caused the entire machine to jolt violently, sparks flying from every joint as the yellow glow flickered out.
The Rotatatron staggered, its body sparking and creaking from the damage. Its movements slowed, giving Carol the perfect opening for the final blow.
"Okay, time to end this!" Carol shouted, her fists glowing with overwhelming power.
She shot higher into the air, rising above the Ferris Wheel-shaped mech, her energy building to a blinding level as her form became enveloped in light.
With a mighty cry, Carol descended from the sky like a comet, her fists blazing with energy as they crashed into the Rotatatron's central eye. The impact sent shockwaves rippling through the entire area, the force of the explosion tearing through the Ferris Wheel mech's core. Metal parts flew in every direction, disintegrating as Carol's energy obliterated the heart of the machine.
As the dust settled, the Rotatatron lay in ruins—a smoldering heap of debris scattered across the plaza. The dark energy that had infused it evaporated into the air, leaving only the faint neon lights of the amusement park flickering around them. Carol descended gracefully back to the ground, her proud smirk betraying the intensity of the fight.
Sonic landed beside her, wiping some grime off his gloves, a grin plastered on his face as he surveyed the wreckage.
"Not bad for our first team-up," Carol affirmed, her aura dimming as she brushed a bit of dust off her suit. "Gotta admit, you held your own, Sonic."
The cyan alien creature exited Sonic's body, floating around the duo with glee.
"Yeah, yeah, I have my moments," Sonic quipped with his usual cocky grin. "But that last hit of yours? Now that was some real fireworks."
Carol chuckled, folding her arms.
"Sometimes you just need a little extra punch," she said with a playful tone.
RANK: S
With the Rotatatron reduced to nothing more than a scrap heap, Sonic and Carol stood amidst the wreckage, looking over the debris with a sense of accomplishment. Their teamwork, combined with Sonic's use of the Cyan Laser form, had made quick work of Eggman's latest mechanical monstrosity.
"Well, that was a workout," Sonic remarked, casting a sideways glance at Carol. "Sweet moves you've got there, Captain."
"Thanks," Carol replied, her tone casual but appreciative. "That power you can use from our tiny cyan friend is impressive."
Sonic grinned and started walking around, inspecting the remains of the destroyed mech. The cyan alien hovered cheerfully beside him, seemingly pleased with the outcome.
As Sonic knelt down to examine some of the debris, he couldn't shake a nagging thought.
"Y'know, something felt different about Eggman," he mused, standing up again and glancing back at Carol. "When I watched him from afar earlier, his temper was... well, a bit excessive."
"You saying he is normally much calmer?" Carol questioned.
Sonic rubbed the back of his head, thinking it over.
"Well, no, he's never exactly what you'd call calm. But there's something different about him. Darker. And I might know why."
Carol's eyes narrowed in curiosity as she replied.
"What do you mean? What could it be?"
"The last time I saw Eggman, he was in a place called the Realm of Darkness," Sonic explained.
"Realm of Darkness?" Carol repeated, sounding both confused and intrigued.
"Yeah," Sonic explained. "It's a dark world, a place where the Heartless pretty much hang out. It's... not exactly a vacation spot."
"I never asked earlier, but I've been blasting these blob things for a while now—what exactly is a Heartless?" Carol asked, folding her arms.
"The Heartless are creatures born from the darkness in people's hearts," Sonic clarified. "They consume hearts and at times, will even engulf worlds with their darkness. Nasty business."
Carol was silent for a moment, clearly processing what she had just learned.
"That's… pretty depressing," she admitted, taken back by Sonic's explanation.
"Yeah, and that's what's got me worried," Sonic replied. "These Heartless gave me and my friends the runaround last time. Now, seeing them back and under Eggman's control? That's not a good sign."
Carol's fists clenched slightly as she took in Sonic's words.
"We should go tell Tails what went down, and see if he's done with his translator. After all... he's the smart one, right?" Carol said playfully, trying to lighten the mood.
Sonic grinned, unable to resist a playful jab.
"After what I just told you about the Heartless and the Realm of Darkness, don't you think I'm smart enough yet?" the hedgehog asked, his tone was full of high spirits and banter.
Carol smirked at the comment, clearly amused. Without saying a word, she took to the air, hovering a few feet off the ground before giving Sonic a teasing look.
"Keep up, hedgehog," he remarked loudly.
Then, with a burst of energy, Carol zoomed off.
Sonic sighed, shaking his head with a grin.
"Show off," he muttered under his breathe.
The cyan alien creature, still floating beside him, entered his body again. Sonic transformed into the Cyan Laser, his form glowing with radiant energy.
"Alright, let's go catch up," he said.
In an instant, Sonic zipped off, a streak of light flashing through the sky as he shot toward Tails' location. The race was on once again.
Sitting on his blue and yellow toolbox, with Yacker floating nearby, Tails tightened the final bolt on his Miles Electric. His focus was entirely on the translator device in his hand.
"Okay, just tighten this last bolt..." Tails muttered to himself, deep in concentration as he twisted his wrench.
Suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted as Captain Marvel touched down gracefully in front of him, followed by Sonic, who zipped into view next to her. The Cyan Wisp popped out of Sonic's body and floated away, giving a cheerful hum as Sonic waved goodbye to it.
"Oh, you guys are back," Tails remarked, looking up from his work. "Did you figure out what was going on at the Ferris Wheel?"
"We found Egghead with some kidnapped aliens, but Carol here"—Sonic gestured to Captain Marvel—"set 'em free."
"No sweat, really," Captain Marvel added with a casual shrug.
"Then we trashed a giant killer robot, you know, the usual," Sonic continued, clearly enjoying himself.
Carol glanced down at Tails, who was still sitting on his toolbox.
"How's your translator thing coming along?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips.
Tails stood up, setting his wrench aside.
"I think it's done," he admitted, sounding proud. "It's in binary code, so only I can read it."
"Really? I dunno, maybe Carol here can read it too," Sonic said with a playful grin. He then turned to Carol. "Can you read code, Ms. Cosmic Powers?"
"What makes you think I can read 0s and 1s, hedgehog?" Carol asked, crossing her arms and giving Sonic a teasing look.
"Well, you can fly, shoot lasers, use that cosmic energy thingie you have… I just figured reading binary code would be a breeze," Sonic replied with a shrug.
"That 'cosmic energy thingie' is called 'binary energy'. Big difference," Carol affirmed with a smirk.
"Oh, sorry, 'binary energy'," Sonic teased, mimicking her tone. "I'm just saying, if you can do all that, reading code shouldn't be a problem!"
Carol rolled her eyes, her expression half-annoyed, half-amused.
"You know, for someone who runs fast, you sure talk slow," she baited.
Before Sonic could fire back with another quip, Tails cleared his throat, holding up the Miles Electric.
"As fun as this little back-and-forth is, guys, how about we focus on what our friend has to say?" Tails said, gesturing toward Yacker, who floated nearby, watching the exchange.
Yacker and the fox exchanged a quick glance, the alien seemingly eager for the translator to kick in.
"Yeah, let's hear what you've got to say, little guy," Carol affirmed, turning her attention to Yacker.
Sonic, now slightly more focused, cleared his throat and addressed the alien.
"Alright, buddy—who are you, and what's happening to your people?"
Yacker immediately started chattering in his alien language, his energy-filled voice fast and high-pitched. Tails read off the translation, squinting at the screen.
"Okay, he says his name is 'Talks a lot,' and he's from a faraway soda, where flowers water them with dances."
Sonic and Carol exchanged bewildered looks before Sonic turned to Tails.
"Yeah, uh... I think your machine still has some bugs," Sonic suggested, his tone somewhat perplexed.
Tails scratched his head, frowning at the device.
"Yeah, I think I can figure this out, though," Tails replied.
He fiddled with the translator for a moment, then glanced at Yacker, who nodded in approval as the alien spoke again.
"Okay, now I've got it," Tails confirmed. "He says his name is Yacker. He's from a race of beings called 'Wisps.'"
"Lisps?" Carol asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"No, Wisps—with a 'W,'" Tails clarified.
"Yeah, I'll just stick with 'aliens,' if that's okay with everybody," Sonic remarked cheekily.
"Well, that's a bit of a broad term, don't you think?" Carol interjected, crossing her arms with a smirk.
"Huh?" Sonic turned to her, clearly confused.
Carol gestured around them.
"Well, aren't we all aliens here?" She remarked. "I'm from another world, and you two are from a different world. So, technically, we're the aliens here, to Yacker and his people, right?"
Tails scratched his chin, deep in thought.
"She's got a point," Tails admitted.
Sonic sighed, throwing his hands up in mock defeat.
"Fine, fine... Wisps it is. But I've got a question for you, Carol."
"Shoot," she replied, her arms still crossed.
"Where are you from exactly?" Sonic asked, his curiosity piqued.
Carol raised an eyebrow at the question.
"Really? Do we have time for this right now?" she asked bemused.
Sonic shrugged nonchalantly as he replied.
"Well, you brought up the whole 'aliens' being a broad term thing."
Tails and Yacker both looked intrigued, clearly wanting to know more as well.
Carol sighed, but her tone remained light as she answered.
"Alright, alright. I'm from a planet called Earth," she said, crossing her arms casually.
"Earth, huh?" Sonic mused, tapping his chin. "Never heard of it."
"I've read about it," Tails chimed in, adjusting his Miles Electric. "It's pretty similar to Mobius—cities, oceans, mountains, and their people are called Terrans."
"Terrans?" Sonic asked, scratching his head.
"Think of them as Mobian humans," Tails clarified with a nod.
"Oh, got it," Sonic replied, though his tone suggested he wasn't entirely convinced.
"They're called humans on Earth too," Carol added. "But 'Terran' comes from Terra, which is another name for Earth. It's just a more formal way to refer to people from my world."
Sonic raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed.
"Sounds kinda of a boring world if you ask me..." Sonic remarked, trying to bait Carol in.
Carol's smirk deepened as she replied.
"Oh, it's far from boring, Sonic. Earth has its fair share of heroes. You'd be surprised."
"Heroes, huh? Like what, people flying around in capes or something?" Sonic questioned, intrigued by Carol's statement.
Carol shook her head, her tone slightly more serious now.
"Not exactly capes, but yeah, there are heroes. Some with super strength, others with powers that can control the elements. There's one guy who's basically a genius in a suit of armor that can fly and shoot energy blasts."
"Okay, now you're talking. But... is there anyone as fast as me?" Sonic asked.
Carol pondered for a moment before a knowing smile crept across her face.
"There's this one guy I know… he's fast. Like, really fast," she remarked.
"Faster than me?" Sonic questioned.
Carol smirked and shrugged, "Well, let's just say he would give you a run for your money. You'd like him. Goes by the name… well, that's not important for right now."
"Now that's something I'd like to see," Sonic exclaimed.
Tails chuckled at their banter while Yacker floated around them, chiming in with his incomprehensible chatter. Tails glanced at the translator again as it kicked in.
"So, anyways," Tails began, "Yacker says his people are being kidnapped by those dark, bug weirdos, and either being used for their magical powers by an evil man, or... to make marshmallow helmets for raccoons."
Sonic, Carol, and Yacker all exchanged confused, exasperated looks.
"Marshmallow helmets... for raccoons?" Carol asked, raising an eyebrow.
Yacker floated in front of them, waving his arms frantically, clearly pleading for help.
Tails looked back at the device.
"I just keep hearing 'save them, save them' over and over," Tails explained.
Carol softened a little, giving Yacker a reassuring look.
"Don't worry, we'll sort this mess out," she promised. "We've got this."
"Time to move on from this part of the amusement park, anyway," Sonic said, stretching his arms. "When I was running around sending the Heartless back to the darkness, I saw a map with a couple of interesting places on it."
"That's a good point, Sonic" Carol replied. "I saw other connected worlds when I was landing my ship here earlier. They're all linked together by what looks like a transport system."
Sonic nodded, his excitement growing as he replied.
"Looks like we need to find this transport link and head over to the next part of this crazy place. We've got Wisps to save!"
Yacker suddenly pointed towards a tunnel, speaking in his rapid-fire gibberish once more.
Tails checked the translator, frowning as it sputtered out.
"Yacker says... uh, the tunnel leads to a forest where bread is the king and the trains sing in harmony?"
Carol looked over at Tails, eyebrow raised.
"You really need to fix that thing, Tails..." Carol said with a deadpan expression and tone.
Tails nodded sheepishly as he replied.
"Yeah, I know. Hold on." He fiddled with the device again, and this time, the correct translation appeared. "Okay, Yacker says the transport link is nearby, the entrance is through that tunnel. The next stop for us is 'Sweet Mountain'."
"Sweet Mountain, huh?" Sonic remarked with a grin.
"Let's get moving, then. There's bound to be more trouble waiting for us," Carol declared.
With Yacker leading the way, the group set off toward the tunnel, their next adventure awaiting at Sweet Mountain.
Meanwhile...
Orbot and Cubot floated around the wreckage of the fallen Rotatatron, tasked with cleaning up the mess. Metal scraps and bits of machinery were strewn everywhere, and the two robots had their hands full—well, at least one of them did.
"The bossman said to wrangle every piece o' this mess," Cubot drawled, picking up a mangled chunk of metal. "When ya think about it from a robot's point of view, it's actually pretty gruesome."
"Don't think about it," Orbot replied dryly, his voice tinged with exhaustion as he worked.
Cubot shrugged, continuing to clumsily scoop up the debris.
"Iffin' ya say so," he replied.
Orbot paused for a moment, looking around the rubble. His optic sensors blinked as he scanned the area, his usual expressionless face tinged with a hint of confusion.
"I'm missing an arm. Have you got an arm?" he asked, glancing over at Cubot.
"Naw, but really, how much can it matter?" Cubot responded with a lopsided grin.
"I guess it can't matter much," Orbot admitted.
The red and black robot shook his head as he continued sorting through the wreckage. Unbeknownst to him, the missing arm had lodged itself into one of Dr. Eggman's towers, causing a small but steady leak. The liquid dripped ominously, but the two robots were none the wiser.
As they worked, Orbot glanced at Cubot once more.
"Have you noticed something… strange about the boss lately?" Orbot muttered. "He's always been... eccentric, but since he came back, something feels off. More heated than usual.
Cubot scratched his head, still in his cowboy voice drawl.
"Yeah, now that ya mention it, he's been actin' real strange. I mean, he was always weird, but this here's a whole new level. Downright cranky all the time."
Orbot nodded as he replied, "It's like that time in the Realm of Darkness did something to him. Now, it's more than just temper tantrums. It's... unsettling."
Cubot shrugged, not entirely grasping the seriousness of the situation.
"Maybe he just needs a nap. Or a sandwich," he remarked.
Orbot sighed again, watching as Cubot fumbled with another piece of debris.
"Let's just finish up here before he finds another excuse to yell at us," he said with a sigh.
As they worked, the ominous drip from the tower continued, hinting that something much larger was on the horizon—something not even Eggman's clumsy assistants could predict.
That's another chapter and Tropical Resort done. Up next Sweet Mountain.
Carol and Sonic are bonding, which is good. Their personalities clash at times, but they do say opposites attract.
The terminated reference comes from Metal Sonic saying Eggman was terminated in KH: Final Mix - Blue Blur Edition. And with the events of Chain of Generations, everyone pretty much remembers Eggman being last seen in the Realm of Darkness.
Sonic gives Carol a brief run down on what the Heartless are. More to come on explanations and exposition in the upcoming chapters.
Carol sharing she's from Earth. This plants some seeds for that world to appear later down the road.
Thanks for the support on this story. Always appreciated on the follows and favourites.
Just a heads up, the chapters of this story being released will be a bit slow over the next few weeks. I have to start writing the first few chapters of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix - Blue Blur Edition II. The story will start with Roxas, but expect some twists and turns here and there.
