"Wow.." Naruto thought walking around looking at all the lights and activity.
They were passing through the fire nation capital as no ships from where they were, had permission to make the journey to the fire nation colonies in the earth kingdom.
Now they had to cut through here to make their way to the port to safely escape without being noticed.
Naruto had separated from his mother who told him to go have fun while she stayed making plans for their journey.
Naruto, who had wanted to explore a bit, was surprised when she told him that.
He had thought they were going stealthy as always but it seemed something had changed on his mom ever since that day.
'I can't say I dislike it but..' Naruto thought, squeezing out a grimace.
The new attitude was great and all but he wished for a bit she stayed the same because everytime he noticed her new attitude he always connected the dots back to why it happened and thus causing those awful memories to come back.
Ducking his head down pulling up his orange scarf trying to hide feeling the shame crawl up again he even wondered why he was here.
He didn't deserve to enjoy life while he took the life of another for no reason.
Mood completely ruined he began making his way back gently pushing through the crowd maneuvering them completely with his strength getting a couple of surprised eyes.
His ears perking up hearing faint sobbing Naruto immediately made a straight line towards the source.
'Never noticed I could hear that far.'
Seeing the secluded place he glanced around before finding his mark.
Slowly approaching and sitting on the bench he gently patted said person on their back in comfort.
'I shouldn't enjoy myself but helping someone should be okay.' He thought hearing the person calm down.
"What's wrong?" Naruto said looking at her inquiring wondering if he could help.
Mumbling Ty Lee told him.
"Speak up a bit. I can't hear you."
"I said.. my friend called me a lemur monkey.." She whispered looking down.
Azula, being the menace she always was, jealous of Ty Lee's superior athletic ability had said it out in anger to bring her down.
Naruto's face contorting in confusion looked at her for a bit, getting her attention as he said."Well you don't look like a lemur monkey. You're far too pretty."
Ty Lee glanced to the side, her ears red looking at him failing to hide her smile.
"I mean you don't have the hair, you also don't have a tail, monkey ears or..." Naruto said, glancing at her with a side eye.
"Wait, can you say ooooh ooooh aaaah aaaah?" He said seriously, finally getting the belly deep laugh he was waiting for.
Ty Lee trailing off in giggles snorting a bit heard him say "Well you do laugh like one." As she flinched looking up at him in sadness before seeing the playful look on his face.
Trying to frown she bumped him off giggling at the exaggerated shocked look on his face.
"Sooo~ why did they call you a monkey?" He said deeply curious.
It was a rather specific term after all and he didn't really see any reason why she would be called such a ugly creature.
Sighing Ty Lee looked down a bit wondering if she would lose a potential friend .
"You promise you won't laugh?" She said seriously looking at him.
She really didn't want the cute boy to laugh at her. That'd just make the day so much worse.
Naruto sensing the seriousness sat up straight and nodded once.
Getting up, sighing Ty Lee cartwheeled away jumping towards a tree swinging off the branch as she gently landed on the bench beside Naruto again.
Looking at him nervously her heart dropped when she saw the shocked look on his face, her head dropping.
'Of course. Am I really a monkey like Azula said?' She thought sadly.
Though she perked up hearing him utter "Holy Shit"
Flinching looking around she quickly chastised him saying " Language!" hoping no adults heard that.
Naruto blinking at her said " How the heck did you do that? That was pretty cool." He thought about how one even began to do that.
Blinking Ty Lee looked up at him in confusion saying " You don't think I'm a lemur monkey? "
"If lemur monkeys can do that I wouldn't mind being one!" He said remembering the smooth maneuver as he got up trying successfully getting 4 down before falling on his back.
'I'm stronger than the average mom said but I can't even do 5 in a row but she did like 12 and could definitely do more' He thought seeing her kneel by his head.
"You're pretty weird y'know? Was that supposed to make me feel better?" She said smiling cheeks on her hands showing that it did in fact make her feel better.
Not only that he did surprisingly well for someone who looked as stiff as a log.
"So selfish. I did that because I wanted to see if I could! Not because of you!" He said humpfing as he turned around.
Honestly, how big did your head need to be to even think that at all?
Though he immediately jumped up in shock screaming "EEK!" when he felt electricity shoot through him though it didn't hurt.
Looking backwards in shock he saw the mischievous Ty Lee waving a fist smiling at him sticking her tounge out.
'What the hell was that!' Naruto thought before his face contorted.
"Why you little! Come here!" Naruto said immediately launching at her surprising her at the speed as she quickly ran away giggling.
The chase going for a bit, Ty Lee saw him catching up quickly.
'Wow he's really fast! I need to...' She thought looking up quickly jumping into a tree.
"Hehe, how will you get me up heRE!" She said screaming when he jumped up gripping her ankle pulling her down.
Jumping down holding her up like a sack of potatoes by her ankles he shook her as he said " Say uncle!".
Though he was shocked when she not even once thinking of surrendering decided to plant her hands on the ground pushing upwards bending her body as she reached his shoulders pressing hard getting him to release her as he threw her away.
With her flipping into a stance, finding her balance as she immediately ran towards him.
Naruto, seeing it already feeling something weird with this girl immediately turned to run before feeling her jump on his back.
"Say uncle~!" She said cackling as she tightened her hold on his neck with her legs.
'Ugh!' Naruto thought about trying to pry her off but the way she was positioned he would have to seriously hurt her to do so.
So sighing he simply tapped her thigh 'conceding' to her superior power.
Letting go jumping off his shoulders she twirled around saying " Probably shouldn't have tried that~. " Looking back at him mocking playfully.
Naruto heaving a deep breath looked at her shocked wondering how someone so much smaller than him was so limber.
"You're really strong, you know that?" Naruto said, walking up to her sighing.
"You too. I've never seen anyone jump like that except me and my sisters!" Ty Lee said remembering putting her hand on her chin.
"Sisters?" Naruto asked.
Ty Lee about to respond was interrupted by a voice
" Well if you two love birds are done I'd like to get back into the show. It starts soon."
"Mai!" Ty Lee said happily running towards her followed by a slower wary Naruto looking at the...
Well he didn't really know how to describe her.
Seeing them interact he felt she wasn't the one to have called her monkey feeling she was too open with her.
"Hmm." Mai said, glancing at the boy. His clothing suggested a wealthy background and his face huh?
She looked again but couldn't really place it from anywhere. Weird but who cared really.
Her ears perked up however when she heard him ask "Were you the one who called her monkey?" as she blinked, taken aback looking at a guilty Ty Lee.
"No it wasn't her um..what's your name I'm Ty Lee and this is Mai?" Ty Lee said scratching her head smiling innocently ignoring the look she got from her friend.
'Lighten up Mai!' Ty Lee thought to herself.
"Naruto it's Naruto. So who did it? I'd like to teach them a lesson!"
Ty Lee rolling the name off her tongue hesitated before someone answered her.
"It was me. And what are you going to do about it little boy?~" As Azula made her appearance seeing her friends not present.
It had been a long time and she needed to make sure her minio- friends were alright.
Mai and Ty Lee stiffened but said nothing watching the confrontation.
Naruto frowned seeing their reactions and looked at the girl in her gold eyes.
'They're afraid of her.'
"Why would you call your friend a monkey? That's not something friends do!" He said looking at her in confusion.
'Would you get a load of this?' She thought smiling slyly seeing the boy clearly not know who she was.
"So what? I did it, what are you going to do about it?" She said edging him on.
"I hope you apologize to her. You really hurt her after all." He glanced at Ty Lee who smiled at him though it was strained.
Azula, approaching him, looked him in the eyes trying to intimidate him to get him to back down as he stood his ground completely unafraid and confused, wondering if this girl liked him with the way she was staring at him.
Observing her prey trying to find any weak spots she only saw his exotic features and a symbol on his palm as she circled him.
Along with his well built body for someone their age as she compared him to Zuzu.
Tilting her head with a smile finding some entertainment she said" How about this? The strongest person in the room is always right so if you can beat me I'll do you one favor. If you can't, well~" She trailed off shrugging, smiling wickedly, letting him guess, finding what people thought up was always more terrifying than anything she could say.
Ty Lee, about to interject immediately stopped seeing Azula turn towards her with deadly glare. Already anticipating her interruption.
'I'm sorry Naruto.' She thought, feeling her fear getting the better of her.
"Mai! Take Ty Lee back! I'm sure she wouldn't like to see her little friend torched~" She said seriously looking at the boy.
Mai said nothing, glancing at the boy in pity, not really caring but still thinking it was a waste of a pretty face as she left.
Naruto glaring at her smiling face said nothing, feeling the fear come from her friends.
'This girl is a certified nut.'
'I'll enjoy breaking that serious face!' She thought to herself.
"Since I challenged you I'll allow you the honors of counting down." She said getting into a stance.
'Shouldn't be too hard beating a little princess and I've never fought someone my age before.' Naruto thought, a bit excited.
Naruto also doing so getting into an offensive position began counting. "3,2,1. Go!" He said as they immediately rushed at each other.
Sending a quick jab Naruto turned it into an open palm seeing her immediately aim to grab his wrist.
Slapping the palm away, diverting the force, Azula immediately tried swooping his legs under him, failing as he jumped backwards.
Pursuing Naruto threw a feint, getting her to try to block as he threw out a kick sending her skidding away as he followed.
Looking up, brows furrowed Azula felt the throbbing on her arms.
'He's stronger than me by a wide margin. Why? Even Zuko didn't hit this hard.' She thought knowing physical confrontation would be a bust.
Seeing him approaching she got into a defensive stance quickly sidestepping the blow towards her torso as she quickly weaved away from the punches aimed at her head.
Seeing an opening she immediately threw a weirdly maneuvered punch as if sliding it across like an uppercut.
Naruto sensing something weird with the movement took a leap backwards, his instinct right.
"Shall we turn this up a notch?" She said, emitting blue fire daggers smiling wide at seeing him not back down.
"Good! Keep that attitude! " She said immediately rushing towards him putting him on the defense as she swiped with her daggers making sure to take special care not to leave him any openings.
Naruto maneuvering away simply kept evading as he dodged the blows knowing leaving himself open with a counter would allow her to damage him.
"You've been trained very well!" Naruto said acknowledging the form.
"Heh? Even a monkey could tell that!" She said still happy getting praised, swiping left and right without restraint.
Panting in physical effort she glared at him seeing his calm demeanor.
'He hardly spent any energy in this fight! He has been leading by the nose, making me waste energy so he can get the equivalent of a ring out.' She thought glaring at him a bit impressed.
Smirking at her sudden thought she looked around seeing no one anywhere near close meaning no one to report to father as she released her daggers saying "Those were never my strong point. Zuzu is more the up and personal kind."
"If you want to live I suggest you start bending and yes I know already!" she said with a wild smirk seeing him lose composure for the first time.
'Is this how he usually is? What expressive eyes!' She thought looking at the panic bubbling over.
'This is way too fun!' She thought immediately shooting jets of fire towards him not caring about the trees or to using skill until he decided to fight her for real.
'How did she know?!' Naruto immediately pushed off the ground and out of the way of the dangerous fire avoiding the blue flames.
"Easy, pretty boy! I've been on these streets since I was a baby! I think I can tell a foreigner from people I've seen my entire life, especially one with such thick blood! Now bend! Let me see your power don't worry I won't tell~!" She said quickly propelling herself forward with fire cutting off an escape path for him, way too excited to put her power to the test.
And what she said was true. Azula had never seen a non fire nation citizen ever. Never had left the capital. Oh sure there were some mix breeds with the earth nation and fire nation but even then they looked nothing like him!
'So he must be a water bender!' She thought not caring to reason out he could be a non bender.
'No one with such skills could be one of those weaklings!'
Naruto biting his lips said nothing seeing her speed increase drastically as he quickly reasoned to himself.
'If she wanted to turn me in, she would have left without saying anything and brought the guards. Not only that, she told those 2 to leave, meaning she may have known from the beginning. The one time I separate from mom, this happens!' He said immediately stomping, forming a wall of water pulling it out of the grass stopping the fire.
'We're leaving today so it'll be alright, won't it?'
Eyes lighting up in triumph she immediately started performing at full power flipping frontwards as she drop kicked a blast of fire towards him.
The wall still holding strong Naruto immediately froze it before punching the wall turning it to a tiny block towards her sending them rocketing.
Eyes widening Azula dodged smiling shakily at seeing the tree get destroyed by the hard blocks of ice and 2 others before they stopped turning back into water curling around the tree as they came towards her in an unrelenting pursuit.
Pushing off the ground she closed the distance between them shooting a blast of fire towards him kicking off a tree using fire to propel her away from the encroaching tentacles.
Peering at her through the trees Naruto protected himself from her concentrated blast using a whip of water around him as he sent it towards her snapping a tree branch instead as she nimbly jumped away sending returning fire.
Naruto getting tired of the shenanigans immediately drew his arms in as he took a deep breath in sucking in the water and quickly blew out mist towards her position before freezing her and the tree she was on in her tracks.
Stepping up to her as she fell he placed a hand on her icicle seeing her eyes follow as he sank his hand in gripping her by the throat lifting her out of the water choking her.
"Had enough?" He said frowning seeing the blush on her cheeks.
"Agk" Gurgling out liquid from her mouth Azula barely nodded as she was dropped down.
Coughing the water out of her lungs Azula as she sat her legs weak she looked up at the boy who had bested her rather easily with slit eyes.
'I knew it! I knew he was a predator the moment I laid eyes on him! The walk, the stature, the confidence talking down to me of all people hah~! Just like me! A rival!' She thought trying to stand up shivering as she looked at her wet dress turning white in fright.
'Father is going to kill me. Literally.' She thought with horror knowing he was trying his best to impress Grandfather and her coming to the event like this? She was dead.
Though she looked up feeling a touch on her shoulder squinting her eyes controlling her embarrassment at getting touched by a male who wasn't a family member.
"I wonder why Father doesn't keep some of you around. That's extremely useful." She said looking with wide eyes seeing him take the water dirt and all out of her clothing.
"I don't know. Maybe because he, his brother and father kills them all?" He said as his memory finally worked remebering the only fire bender who could wield blue flames.
Azula blinking at hearing him say that smiled looking into his eyes hoping to see some fear breaking his composure.
"So you know of me huh? Fearing for your life now?" She said snickering in a sinister manner the image completely broken by him seeing her using a tree to shakily get up her legs wobbling like a weak chicken.
Sighing wondering what to do Naruto answered in a completely calm manner.
"I doubt you're one of those kids who run towards their parents for everything. And even if you are, do you think your dad will help you after hearing what happened? " Naruto said, raising a brow with a cunning smile.
Who on earth didn't know Prince Ozai's temperament? Go to him? He would probably strike her down at the first sentence.
"Tsk." Kissing her teeth at being found out she looked at him saying "How about you do your duty and help your future princess peasant. Stop babbling." She said trying to get him to change the subject not wanting to be reminded that she could be treated like Zuko.
It terrified her.
Rolling his eyes and sighing, Naruto went near her, getting in position.
Raising an eyebrow Azula looked at him in confusion thinking 'And what on earth is he doing?'
"It's a piggy back ride let's go." Naruto said looking back with a frown.
Moving forward seeing him serious she placed both hands on his shoulder yelping as he got up quickly latching her feet around his torso for stability.
Walking forward Naruto glanced at her saying " You are going to apologize right?"
That was the only reason he entertained this little charade afterall.
'Still thinking about her?' Azula thought, frowning to herself.
"Maybe I won't! Why on earth should I have to apologize to someone so inferior to me?" She immediately responded.
"Because I'm stronger than you and I asked you to." Naruto said flatly using her own dumb logic against her as he looked forward.
'Ugh. Good point.' She thought rubbing her throat, sighing remembering everytime father told her only the powerful should have opinions.
Glancing back at her he saw her face truly conflicted as if she was about to explode.
'Goodness! It's just an apology! A single one! No need to have a heart attack.' Naruto thought in incredulity, rolling his eyes.
"Whatever I guess I can do it. Only because you said so though. So don't forget." She said to him.
Only someone who was her age and could beat her so soundly would have her attention. Not some old wrinkled man who was 6-7 times her age, though she was nearing that power having been sweeping through her trainers.
"I'm more interested in the water bender who snuck behind enemy lines!" She said, releasing her hold on his neck and placing them on his hair, blinking in confusion at seeing the barely visible blonde roots
'What?'
"Not much to tell." Naruto said, shrugging nonchalantly.
And it was really the truth. Wasn't like he was some super cool spy or anything.
"Hmm?" She said humming, not believing him.
"How about you? How's life in the Royal Palace?" He said, his eyes narrowing at the thought of Azulon the reason the war was still going strong.
Blinking, hearing the question she had never been asked, she thought about it tilting her head saying "Okay I suppose? My father loves me and my mother hates my guts so it's about so so I guess."
Looking up towards her seeing her head hangover he said "Your mom hates you?"
That was awful. He couldn't imagine how his life would be if his mother hated him. Shivering at the thought he shook his head listening to her attentively.
Shrugging in a display of false nonchalance
" She thinks of me as a monster and favors my brother more than me. It's obvious for anyone to see."
She answered thinking everyone already knew she was the hated child of her mother and the monster of the siblings.
Naruto looking sad said nothing for a moment thinking on what to say.
"Want to hear a story?" He said to her hoping it'd help.
'Is it time for that now?' She thought sarcastically, rolling her eyes but nodded as there was nowhere to go.
However that opinion changed the more she listened to him.
Naruto swallowing began his story obviously editing out what needed to be.
And Azula listened to the story of the boy who was deeply loved by his mother and had a prodigious talent.
But born deep in enemy lines he had to train his talent secretly. Hiding away from the world and hardly coming out. A child sheltered his entire life.
He told her how he felt loved for a long time. Spending time with his mother as she trained him and taught him though hardly letting outside.
For his own good she said. The world was dangerous, she said. The people are demons, she said.
The boy only knowing her his entire life nodded, taking her words as absolute.
Then the boy grew with his bending becoming more controlled and now could socialize with the outside world.
He was warned not to get attached to the people. That they were trouble and he would be leaving soon.
And the boy listened for a time. However curious like all children he disobeyed and began spying, then listening then talking to the people.
And he found out they weren't as scary as mom said. They're really nice people, he thought.
His mother finding out said nothing but the boy felt the change.
His mother got colder, less concerned , only caring that he trained and perfected his power.
And the child never strayed not knowing anyone but her.
Then a terrible day arrived. His mother took him to a forest that night to show him a terrifying secret completely changing everything.
Trying to teach him a power used for dark means she tried to force the child to partake in an evil deed to prove his mastery of the art.
The child, having developed away from her, denied him knowing it was wrong.
And so years passed his mother getting more and more desperate until one day she snapped.
Using the lives of those close to the boy she pushed him further and further until finally getting him to break.
Disgusted at what he did the child felt alone for the first time but like a miracle the very next day he saw something he had never in his life.
His mother was crying. For him, apologizing for what she did beside herself in pain.
The boy, too shocked to say anything, his assumption of her uncaring nature completely destroyed had finally begun to see light at the end of the tunnel.
"So you see? What I had thought for a long time turned out to be wrong. Had I tried a bit harder I could have prevented myself from taking those lives but because I was so stuck in my own perception I never saw any signs of her caring for me and thought there wasn't anything I could do." Naruto said as he had slowed down as he told his perception of the events tweaking it a bit.
Glancing at the silent girl he said "Someone as strong as me could be wrong about that for so long. Do you think you could be wrong too?" He said hoping she was.
Azula looking down shook her head silently not knowing herself. Her selfish attitude biting her in the ass as she didn't take time to look outside her pity party.
Naruto sighing said "Tell me what you remember your mother was like. Maybe we can figure it out together. "
2 heads were better than one after all.
"Why would you go so far? You know exactly what kind of person I am." She said looking down at him needing something to hold onto.
Looking up at her like she was a dumbass Naruto said completely irritated after opening himself up. " I just sat here reciting my shitty experience after you said your mother hated you and you're asking for a reason?! Are you stupid?! Truly?!" getting a whack on the head by the embarrassed girl.
"Keep your crass mouth to yourself! I only asked a question! You could have worded that much better! That was no reason to snap at me!" She said puffing up glaring down at him, her cheeks red knowing herself it was really stupid as she lashed out at him.
Patting his head Naruto realized opening up on that while feeling cathartic still made him a bit jumpy and defensive.
Calming down as best as she could she reluctantly opened up about it, never actually addressing before.
And the more Naruto listened the more he frowned. Because what she said painted a rather vivid picture.
In fact she articulated it so well he was able to even put himself a bit in her position, her mother and that of her brother.
'What a shitty father and grandfather to have.' Naruto thought to himself, breathing out deeply.
From what he heard both Azula and Zuko had a relatively normal sibling relationship at first.
Until they began firebending at that was the end of any semblance of normal.
The prodigy was distanced away from the 'weak and failures' and was personally groomed by Ozai to become what she was now. A budding cruel tyrant of a little heiress.
The other 2 who while loving their family could not stand the abuse from them started distancing themselves.
Well that was what he got from it.
"So what do you think?" She said a bit not showing anything outwardly as if talking about the weather.
'What do I think? I think I don't have enough time to shake sense into you. Your mother is clearly too weak to do it even if it isn't her fault and your father's idea of sense is completely and utterly..' Naruto thought to himself.
He didn't have much experience in life but he still tried his best using what he knew.
"Azula when babies are born do you think their parents know what they will look like when they grow up?" Naruto began trying to help her.
"Of course not! That's stupid." She said, shaking her head.
Naruto nodded in agreement and said" That's right. What about the kind of person they will grow to be? Will they know?"
Shaking her head in negative she furrowed her brows trying to figure out what he was trying to say.
"Then what about... talent? Will they know how talented they are?"
"Of course! My dad said he knew exactly how different I was the moment he laid eyes ..." She trailed off as she connected the dots.
'Ah.' She thought her breathing practice ingrained from a young age becoming unsettled.
Feeling she understood he carried on." Your brother when he was born was probably treated like you. Perhaps even better being a first born son. A baby is a complete unknown. No one knows what they'll be when they grow. So I'm sure everyone was excited at first thinking he would be a powerful bender. However, when he failed to meet their expectations?"
"He was thrown away." She finished for him.
"And you. You were just like him before. But why do you think you're treated better?"
"Because I'm talented?" She thought already, knowing.
"No! Because you're more talented than Zuko. It only takes another kid to come be better than you and take your place. And it's likely too considering your father's power and what will happen then?" Naruto said slyly.
'Then like Zuko too I will..' She took a deep breath.
She knew her father well. It wasn't at all unlikely to happen. In fact it would happen!
"Do you feel that's fair? You were groomed to be heir but you're now regulated to the side?"
Feeling her grip on his hair he got her opinion on that.
"Now let's talk about your mother. You said she used to treat you well but stopped. Right after you begun fire bending..." He trailed off.
"She treats Zuko well, but you say she thinks you a monster but why just because you can firebend well?" He questioned.
Azula couldn't answer him because she didn't know herself.
Sensing her sadness he bent down. Growing a flower out of her sight he gave her the flower infusing some chi into it so it had a long life.
Accepting it hesitantly, she said nothing while looking at the red and black rose.
"Don't get too sad now. I have hopefully good news. I don't think your mother hates you. I think your mother hates your father."
"You are a lot like your father from what she sees, but she still doesn't hate you. Its you who thinks that. You said you never heard her call you a monster it's just what you think. Me? I think she loves you and can't bear what you're being made into." He said at the eerily silent girl looking down at him with burning eyes.
"So I'm going to have to ask you a favor. As your superior" He said, imitating her voice getting a smile out of her before she quickly wiped it with effort.
Looking at him silently hearing what he asked Azula looked hesitant but nodded agreeing not seeing how it could make it worse.
"Good! And maybe one day I can kick the ass of your father for you. Maybe you'll take my words seriously if I do." He said jokingly.
He knew she wouldn't do it on her own so he gave her a reason to go ahead and try. She seemed like a person who needed a reason to do anything nice so as not to be deemed nice/weak.
Alas, they would look back on this day and laugh remembering the conversation.
"Really? You think you'll be a match for father?" She said raising a brow in intrigue not at all dismissing his claim.
"Of course. In fact I'll be one of the strongest benders to ever live!" He said boasting not at all thinking otherwise.
Looking down at him Azula said "Well if you can do that I wouldn't mind letting you become my consort."
"Huh?" Naruto said in deep and utter confusion.
'I must've heard wrongly.'
"Only someone who can beat father would be worthy for my hand. I'm sure your water bending will cause problems but when I'm fire lord no one would dare say otherwise." She said patting his head scrunching her face remembering the suitors she already had.
'Oh spirits.' Naruto thought horrified as he quickly dropped her, having healed her on the way.
"Would you look at that? We are here! Well I gotta go. Cya princess!" Naruto said beating his escape, going towards the event forgetting about his earlier laments.
Looking at him as he retreated Azula looked down at the flower in one hand and the blonde hairs in the other and smiled.
"I'm sure we'll meet again, golden haired water bender." She said in amusement at him thinking he could escape as she twisted the hairs in her fingers.
'I wasn't able to help him with his problem either unfortunately. Wait, do I even know his name? I'll have to ask Ty Lee after I a-apologize.'
'Now... How do I become the Fire Lord?'
Weaving through the crowd Naruto took a nice comfy seat waiting for preparations to end as he kept his face mostly covered with his scarf learning from his mistake.
Glancing around he saw the stadium filled to the brim with fire nation citizens.
'This must be some really important event.' He thought looking in the center.
Perking up he heard a rather loud voice.
"Quiet Down! His Majesty Fire Lord Azulon and his descendants have arrived! Show your respect to your Lord!" The voice echoed, getting immediate silence!
Naruto was breathing out nervously glancing around at how fast the loud quited watched as he entered.
'He certainly has style.' Naruto thought, narrowing his eyes at the platform as the streams of fire blew high into the sky taking the forms of a dragon. A concentrated effort of 50 fire benders.
"His Majesty Azulon! Sworn Fire Lord of Our Nation! Protector of our Lands! The architect of our Era!"
"The Second Prince Ozai. A pillar of our Nation and his Lady Ursa"
"The beloved future of our Nation! Children of Prince Ozai Azula and Zuko!"
Blinking at the family, they lost Naruto's attention as he looked at the 2 old women in surprise seeing the booming voices coming from such tiny bodies.
Quickly getting up as he saw everyone else did so he also mimed "Hail The Royal Family!" as he sat back down.
"First time kid? Don't worry you'll get used to it." A man said beside him when he didn't hear anything.
He did it his first time here as well after all.
"Ah! Thanks." Naruto said, smiling.
Watching the entertainment he saw people from many professions perform as they entertained the Fire Lord in hopes of gaining his favor.
Clapping along with everyone after the long performance, Naruto couldn't help but think they really had some style in this place.
Looking around he got up as he saw everyone else did.
"Your Fire Lord has a few words of comfort to assure you during these troubling times!"
"Pay close attention as he deems upon you his words of wisdom!"
Raising his hand as he waved to the citizens he lowered it slowly, getting complete silence.
"My citizens. I know what is in your hearts. The failure at Ba Sing Se has planted a seed of doubt in your minds. Given us the image that we are not all powerful. However, let me dismiss that notion!" He said before breathing in deeply, spitting a completely massive storm of fire dwarfing the previous display by the combined benders.
Hearing the applause he continued "We have not been defeated! This has been nothing more than a temporary withdrawal! I assure you that the next time we make a move on our biggest rival? We will win! We will conquer! For we are the fire nation! The greatest nation of them all!" He said turning around leaving the thunderous applause going back to his seat.
Naruto of course toned out the propaganda not wanting his brain to rot. He was taught properly after all.
However he stopped when seeing a commotion by the higher platform.
Everyone else murmured as well hearing the loud sounds.
And not long after a massive bolt of lightning rocked the platform! As the Fire Lord Azulon, the tiny girl Azula and an unknown figure plummeted to their deaths!
Naruto got up with his eyes wide open just like everyone else who began screaming.
But his reason wasn't because of the fire lord or Azula but because he recognized the chi he sensed having been near it all his life!
His body working on instinct he drew water from the atmosphere and from everything he could! Barely leaving water in the people who surrounded him! Going so far to even pull the ink out of his hair leaving the upper back length to show its true nature.
Anything remotely liquid bent under his will as he strained himself.
Pulling on his chi conjuring massive amounts of water as a catastrophic waterspout carried him forward, Naruto could only scream in terror.
"MOM!?"

I'm going to be honest this was not supposed to go this way at all. Not even a bit.
Naruto wasn't supposed to meet any of the cast yet until he reached the water tribe.
Naruto and Hama were supposed to leave and have no trouble. I already had 50% of the chapter written.
But my brain just doesn't care about my messy plans when I deleted it completely for no reason. I just want chaos I realized belatedly.
Anyways Naruto shows how he got his name.
