"It is bloody 11 PM on sodding Christmas Eve," growled Rose as she drove the police car to the police station. "I am so unbelievably angry right now, I could throttle you."

"Aren't you going to cuff me?" Scorpius Malfoy asked her from behind.

"Don't tempt me," she replied, glaring at him through the rear mirror.

"Isn't it standard procedure?" he asked her, again.

"I'm not talking to you," she replied. Also, she was possibly not hand-cuffing him because she had possibly forgotten the hand-cuffs back at the police station. Okay, so it was a rookie mistake, but honestly, she hadn't been expecting to arrest someone on bloody Christmas Eve. And especially not Scorpius bloody Malfoy.

"Also, aren't there supposed to be two of you?" he continued.

"Can you stop questioning everything I do?" she demanded.

Okay, it was also true she was supposed to be with a partner, but unfortunately, Roxanne had proved to be the most annoying cousin ever. She had complained for three hours straight about how unfair it was they had to work on Christmas (which Rose was very much aware of, thank you very much) and then promptly fallen asleep on duty when they had received a phone call. Rose had tried to shake her awake, but to no avail.

"When are we getting there, I need the loo?" he complained.

"Oh my god, do you have a death wish?" she barked, slamming the breaks at a red light.

"No, but it looks like you do."

When Rose had received the call from the neighbourhood, claiming that a couple of men were busy vandalising and looting the local department store, she had groaned, rucked up what little motivation she had and left to go and do her duty. Frankly, she had not been expecting her absolute favourite (please note the irony) person in the world: Scorpius Malfoy.

Thankfully, they arrived at the police station rather quickly, and she dragged Scorpius out of the car, and into the building. The stupid Christmas lights – the only and extrememly pathetic decoarations they're chief had allowed them to put up – blinked at her. She momentarily considered strangling Scorpius with them, but decided against as she didn't really want to give a bad image of the police force.

Roxanne at the front desk, seemed to have suddenly woken up. "Wasgoinon?"

"Oh so this is your partner!" Scorpius exclaimed, delighted.

"Scopumafoy?" Roxanne mumbled.

"The one and only!"

"I need alcohol, lots and lots of alcohol," Rose grumbled to herself.

"Drinking on the job, doesn't sound to recommendable, Weasley," he commented.

"Can you please shut up?" Rose almost begged him.

She dragged him to their custody room, where she would be able to file his offence, and hopefully, hopefully be done with him and the rest of her shift could be spent watching either Roxanne snoring, or alternatively, Love Actually.

"Where are we going?"

"A dark secluded dungeon where you will be spending the night," she offered ironically.

"Sounds romantic," he replied with a cheeky smile, she would probably have slapped of his face is she didn't think it was so endearing. This endearing part of him was rather frustrating, but that was exactly the relationship they'd always had.

They'd gone to the same ridiculously elite boarding school lost in the middle of Scotland, and from day one, they had been rivals in all subjects from Art and Design to Philosophy, but any conversation they had was filled with equal measures of infuriating and flirting.

"Also, that is the ugliest Christmas sweater I have ever seen," Rose commented.

He was wearing a light blue sweater, were Frosty's face appeared over and over again with blinking red lights for his eyes (which made him look slightly creepy) and in huge tacky yellow script was written "Wishing You a Frosty Christmas". It wasn't even funny, there wasn't even a pun. It was truly atrocious.

"That's," he started, "Not mine."

"What do you mean, it's not yours?"

"Well," he looked uncomfortable, "You see…"

"Yes?"

"I may or may not have stolen it from the department store," he ex)plained.

"WHAT!" she shrieked. "You vandalised and looted a department store for a Christmas sweater? And an ugly one! It's stolen?"

"It's not stolen, per say," he reassured her. "I put money in the till."

"You still broke into a shop!" Rose cried.

"Well, it's not my fault! Albus dared me to a candy-cane eating contest, I lost, and he made me wear a Christmas sweater, except I don't own one, so I had to go and buy one, but the stores were closed! What did you expect me to do?" he told her.

Rose listened to this and then looked at him with wild eyes. Of course this had something to do with Albus. Because, of course, another factor in Rose and Scorpius' strange relationship is that they were both best friends with Albus Potter, her cousin. And he always had the stupidest stupidest ideas.

"Do you think he did it on purpose?" she groaned.

"What?"

"Challenge you to something he knew you would fail."

"I did not fail!" Scorpius protested. "I simply let him win."

Rose scoffed.

"I don't know!" Scorpius told her.

"Hang on, what do you mean you don't know!" Rose told him in disbelief. "I know perfectly well that you positively abhor peppermint, and Albus knows that too!"

"Some of them were strawberry flavoured!" Scorpius protested.

"You," she pointed at him, "are unbelievable, and you should know better."

Scorpius just shrugged and smiled.

"And I'm keeping you here tonight," she added.

"What!" he shrieked. "You can't do that!"

"Watch me," she said. "And Happy Christmas!"

"Rose!"
