How it happened, you may ask?

First, there was the fact that they were all alone.

The roads had all been completely snowed-down. It had been the most snow people had seen in years, so all roads, rails and skies were closed for the moment. They had high hopes that everything would be fine by Christmas Eve and that everyone could go home to their respective families.

Then, there was the fact that they were both huge swots. They shared a small apartment with Albus, but of course, while he took this as a message from the skies to go and have fun with all his friends, both of them had decided that there was no better moment than to start their homework for the next semester.

So that was how they had been, both of them in the square room they called the Living Room, she is her pyjamas and he a little less than impeccably dresses, as always. There had been silence, the scribble of pen, the smell of highlighter, and the taps of the keyboard, while both of them plundered through their essays and exercises. Alone; together.

Then, there was the fact that there was a rumour going around.

It hadn't always been the way it was, with the two of them getting along. Actually, they had positively detested each other from day one, until the fact that they shared a best friend, and they loved to study so much inevitably ended all animosity. Friendship had soon blossomed.

And sometimes, friendships sometimes grow into something more.

"There's a rumour going around," she told him, looking up from her essay.

"Oh really?" He put his pen down and looked at her. Blue and grey met.

"That you like someone," she added.

"Mhmm," he agreed, nodding before looking back at his notes, through bespectacled eyes. "Who would that be?"

"I think we both know," she replied and scooted closer to him on the sofa, but only very discreetly. She pretended she hadn't done anything, and he pretended he hadn't noticed, and they both smiled.

Finally, there was the fact that it was almost Christmas, after all.

"Why did you get me marbles for Christmas?" he asked. They had exchanged gifts a lit earlier in the week, with the rest of their friends.

"So that whenever I lose mine-"

"That you do." It was his favourite way to tease her.

"Whenever I lose mine, I can come to you and you'll find some for me," she finished.

They really should have known what was going to happen. There was a plate of cookies and milk on the table in front of them – courtesy of Albus – the tree was up and their were cheap Christmas lights hanging near the door.

"Want to know something," she asked him.

"Go on."

"Albus has put up mistletoe," she said simply.

They both looked up, and indeed, there was a rather sorry looking branch of mistletoe. Sorry looking it was, but it was still mistletoe. They looked down and then at each other.

"I think it's custom to-" she started.

"I think we had better, yes," he agreed.

And suddenly they were kissing, kissing under the mistletoe. Fingers in hair, arms around neck, lips against lips in a perfect Christmas bliss.

"Merry Christmas, Rose."

"Merry Christmas, Scorpius."

So, that was exactly how it happened.
