Disclaimer: I own nothing except for the plot and Saoirse.

Also, I know I only updated yesterday. I don't care. I am incapable of keeping this story hidden.

And it's finished, and just sitting on my computer, so...yeah. I couldn't wait a week to update.

Jacob was hunting with Nessie when he caught the scent.

A strange vampire, much too close to Cullen territory. Jacob barked to Renesmee, who crouched down, sniffing.

"A vampire?" she asked, frowning slightly. "I don't recognise this scent…we should check it out."

Jacob nodded, and then the two were hunting.

They followed the scent for about a mile before Jacob heard the vampire up ahead. He leaped out of the trees, knocking the intruder to the ground. His eyes widened in surprise when he saw…a little girl, only about six years old, with long black curls and wide, terrified golden eyes.

Renesmee burst from the trees behind him, her eyes fastened on the vampire.

"Oh, crap. You're an immortal child!"

"And you're a hybrid, and the stinky mutt on top of me is a shapeshifter," the girl snapped. "Since we're stating the obvious. Get off me!" She wriggled underneath Jacob, who growled warningly. The girl growled right back.

"I didn't want to do this, but you've left me no choice. GET OFF ME!" The girl's voice rose to a scream. Renesmee dropped to the ground, clutching her ears in agony. The force of the girl's scream actually lifted Jacob into the air and threw him across the clearing. The sound cut off, leaving both of them staring at her in horror.

"That–that's some gift," Nessie said finally. The girl glared at her.

"Go away. Don't tell your coven, don't tell anyone."

"Nope. The Volturi are already watching our coven—if we let you escape, they will find out."

"Well, that's your problem, because my friend is coming, and she's gifted too. So I suggest you back off." The girl scrutinised Renesmee closely. "You actually look a lot like an older version of her."

Nessie blinked. "I'm sorry, what?" She shook her head. "It doesn't matter. We need to keep you here." Jacob crouched in front of her, growling. The girl hissed and opened her mouth, but before she could scream again, there was another voice.

"Stop!"

Reflexively, everyone turned to the source of the noise, and Jacob felt his jaw drop.

This girl was older, about eight or nine, and her golden eyes were wide with horror as she watched the interaction. Long bronze hair tumbled down her back. What really drew Jacob's attention, though, was the fact that he knew her. Sure, he'd only seen her in a black-and-white image as a human child, but it was obviously her, and the resemblance between her and Edward was obvious.

"Edythe," Nessie whispered, staring at her. The girl met her gaze without flinching.

"Who are you?" she asked icily. "How do you know my name?"

"And why do you look like her?" the other vampire added.

"No, she looks more like…" her voice broke off, and she looked like she was about to burst into tears. "Like him," she finished.

"You were twins. You were practically identical!"

"Um, excuse me," Nessie interrupted. "I think you're going to want to come with us."

"How about no?" Edythe replied coolly. Nessie sighed.

"Can I show you something?" she asked Edythe's friend. The girl watched her warily for a moment, before nodding once.

"Fine."

Nessie walked over and touched the little girl's head, obviously showing her something. The vampire stiffened, before turning to Edythe.

"They're right. You should go. I'll be right behind you—if anything happens, just scream and then I will too." Renesmee cringed at the threat in the child's words.

Edythe nodded and then followed Nessie and Jacob out of the clearing.

Edythe was starting to get impatient.

The hybrid and shapeshifter had taken her back to a big house, with several vampires inside. They'd all had a really weird reaction to her, but nobody had explained what she was doing here. The small vampire with short black hair froze, and then turned to her family.

"He's coming."

"I'm shielding," another vampire said. "He's going to be so happy!"

"I can't believe she's actually alive. I wonder…"

That's when Edythe lost track of the conversation, because she heard footsteps outside the house. Then, a voice.

"Bella, what's going on? Why can't I hear anyone?"

A vampire stepped into the room. His eyes locked on Edythe's, and he froze. She did, too, because it was impossible. He had died in 1918. She'd been certain of it.

Edythe reacted first. She leaped forward into his arms with a squeal. "Edward!"

He held her so tightly, and she never wanted to let go. He stared down at her.

"How–how is this possible?" he whispered. "How are you alive?"

"How am I alive? How are you alive? What—"

"Edythe, please—I need to know how this happened. I need to know this is real. Bella, stop shielding!"

Edythe blinked when she realised what that must mean. "You're gifted, too?"

"I can read minds—wait. Too?"

"I guess I should tell you everything. They probably want to know, too!" she cried. The others in the room nodded, and then she took a deep breath.

"Okay. Has Edward told you his side of the story?"

"Yes," Renesmee said, nodding.

"Okay, then. After the argument, I ran into the forest, like I always did when I wanted to be alone. Of course, I went straight to the wishing well. There was a game I used to play there when I was upset: I would pick up pebbles and drop them into the well, and I imagined that each one was a memory or a feeling. If I regretted something, I would toss it into the well. I was upset—I hated to argue with Edward, so I picked up an entire handful and dropped them into the well. That was when I heard a stick crack in the forest. I turned around and saw a huge man with red eyes. I didn't have time to react before he grabbed me.

"I remember the venom, and knowing that I was going to die…and then he had dropped me, and he was growling at someone. I heard a sound, so awful and loud…then, I thought I was flying…moving so fast it was impossible. Two days later, I woke up as a vampire. I looked around—I was somewhere underground, somewhere very familiar. That's when I saw Saoirse."

Edward inhaled sharply, and Edythe nodded. "Yes, Saoirse. You remember her, don't you?" Turning to the others, she explained. "Saoirse was a little girl who I'd play with sometimes. She was two years younger than me, as far as I knew. Little did I know she was a vampire, and she saved my life. She explained that the vampire hadn't just randomly chosen me. I was his blood singer.

"Saoirse said that we had to leave, because people were looking for me and she hadn't been able to kill the vampire, who now wanted revenge. As far as we know, he's still hunting us. Anyway, I refused. I knew that vampire would remain in the woods for a while, and I couldn't stand the thought of you crossing his path while you were looking for me. My gift materialised immediately. I didn't know vampires had flawless memories…when Saoirse refused to stay, I looked straight at her and, going by instinct, I said 'But you promised that I could do this, and that you would help me. You said it as soon as I woke up, don't you remember?' Her eyes glazed over for a moment, and then she said, 'You're right, of course. I did promise.' She snapped out of it right after—gifts don't usually work properly on her. Now, I know that I have the gift to alter someone's thoughts or memories. It's limited—if it's something that is obviously untrue, with physical evidence to support that fact, then it won't work. For example, I cannot convince a human that they are a dog. Trust me, I tried, but that's a story for another time.

"So, I went to the well and I waited, knowing that you would come looking. Soon, I saw you and Mother, coming up the hill. Saoirse was using her gift to keep me in control—she can influence people and things with her voice, and she was using it to keep me thinking rationally so that I wouldn't harm you. When you were here, I stepped out. I told you both that I was sorry, and then I used my gift. I placed memories in your minds of finding my body, as Saoirse sang you to sleep so that you wouldn't see me alive.

"We didn't leave for five years. For those years I watched, making sure you were alright. In 1918, I returned to see how you were coping with the disease, but I couldn't find you. I dug through the hospital records, and found that you had died. I was devastated, thinking that I could have saved you had I arrived just a month earlier. Had I known that you were a vampire now, I wouldn't have stopped looking until I found you."

There was silence, and then Edward hugged her even tighter. The wolf—who Renesmee had introduced as Jacob—cringed.

"Yeah, Saoirse's powerful alright," he muttered. "Using just her voice, she threw me twenty feet."

"Only twenty? She must have been going easy on you."

While Jacob and Renesmee digested that, Edythe was introduced to the other members of the family. She noticed Renesmee getting up and leaving the room, but she didn't dwell on it. After all, she was happy now. She'd found her brother.
