Hello, everyone! Yeah, I know I've been absent for so long (Now that I think about it, I've always been like that, huh) and from this chapter onward, I'm not gonna fill this section with the reason why I've been absent. And thank you very much for 287 favorites and 299 followers. Apparently, the oath/challenge milestone from previous chapter hasn't been fulfilled. It's okay, I'll still fulfill it eventually when the milestone has been fulfilled in the future.
That being the case, despite the milestone hasn't been fulfilled, I'll still upload double chapters, albeit for different reasons, that is because I promised in the discord that I was supposed to update this fanfic few weeks ago yet I failed to do so. Hence why, this is my atonement to you guys for breaking my own promise. Well, without further ado, here we go!

Chapter 16: The Advent of The Abyss Monster Trio – Part 5
"I think I should really start making that blade-gun Tsubasa suggested to me a while ago." Hajime said more to himself.
Tsubasa and Airi stopped walking as they blinked owlishly before they responded confusingly "Huh?"
"At least, that's what I want to say, but I don't think I can make it right now." Hajime finished.
"I thought you already made it but you didn't bother to use it, Ha-kun." Airi commented.
"Or you never had the chance to use it." Tsubasa added.
"No, it's not that." Hajime denied before he continued sheepishly "I think I'm getting too busy from maintaining my supplies and restocking them that the thought of making blade-gun went away from my mind."
Tsubasa and Airi just stared at their best friend before Airi said "That admission just now added one more reason why you should focus on your own weaponry first, Ha-kun."
"Hmph, what makes he think he could craft artifacts for us if he even forgot about his own new artifacts" Tsubasa muttered.
Hajime groaned at that before he requested tiredly "Yeah, yeah, can you stop bringing it up that time?"
"Fufufu~ sorry, no can do, Ha-kun."
"What makes you think we won't bring that up again in the future?"
Airi's playful half-baked apology and Tsubasa's rhetorical question were the ones Hajime got from them for their request.
Hajime could only cover his face with his hands as he said jokingly "Sometimes, I really regretted for having emotional moment with you two."
Tsubasa and Airi laughed at that which Hajime also laughed a moment later.
They found the exit to the next floor before long and descended to the level below it…
At least that was how it should, but considering Hajime need to craft blade-gun and its' bullets, not to mention, maintaining and restock his supplies, they've to postpone descending to the lower level.
First, they obviously ate the shark meats and needless to explain that their stats became as follows,

While eating, Tsubasa called "Oi, Hajime." Hajime which then hummed in affirmation.
Tsubasa then decided to ask something that piqued his interest from what Hajime said earlier "Earlier, you said you can't make your blade-gun right now? Why's that? If it's because we kept descending the floors, we can stay here and wait for you to finish crafting your blade-gun."
Airi perked as she also remembered what Hajime said earlier "Oh yeah, Ha-kun said something like that earlier. Oh, could it be you don't have enough materials for your blade-gun? We'll gladly help you, Ha-kun."
Hajime then replied "It's not that, you two. I appreciate you wanting to help me, but with the way I'm now, the best I can do on making blade-gun is just making a gun with a blade on top of it with nothing special on it."
"I see, so you want your blade-gun to have some sort of special gimmicks...I mean special features on it, right?" Tsubasa realized as he corrected himself in the middle of his statement.
"...I don't really like how you refer it as gimmick, but aside from that, what you said is true." Hajime replied while feeling his eyebrow twitched at the word 'gimmick'.
"Then, what do you have in mind about special gimmick...I mean special feature you want to add, Ha-kun?" Airi asked as she purposefully said the word that irritated her best friend.
The said best friend could only frown wearily as he groaned "Not you too, Airi-san." Airi just chuckled at that before Hajime recomposed himself which he then said "Well, I'm thinking that the blade-gun can be split into dagger and gun, something like that?"
Tsubasa and Airi responded respectively "Hou, interesting." "Wow, it sounds so cool, isn't it?"
"Oh, and instead of using bullet like I used on [Donner] and [Schlag, I'm also thinking of using different ammunition for my blade-gun."
Tsubasa perked at that as Airi asked "Heh? Different ammunition? What is it?"
"You'll know when it's done, Airi-san." Hajime replied while smirking.
"Eh? Stingy Ha-kun." Airi complained while pouting.
Tsubasa trying to guess what Hajime had in mind about his planned different ammunition for the blade-gun, he then said "Hm, I guess, he'll use confetti and ribbon for the ammunition to confuse the enemy, then he can just use the blade to damage them."
"Uh, the element surprise thing is a good idea honestly, but nope, I won't use such thing for my blade-gun." Hajime sweat dropped at Tsubasa's guess but he nonetheless agreed with the idea.
Tsubasa and Airi then guessed a bit more about the planned different ammunition, such as rock, clay, and even more disgusting things such as vomit and shits which prompted Hajime to stop the guess as it's getting more ridiculous.
After that, they continued to conquer the labyrinth. They descended from floor to floor, until they descended another 50 floors past the Tar Shark. They had lost all the lack of time in the labyrinth and had no idea how many days had passed. Although it still took some time, it was clear they were advancing through the labyrinth at a very fast pace.
While advancing, they had many battles with death and had to fight all kinds of incredibly powerful monsters.
Among them were a huge rainbow-colored toad that could spit poison and a giant moth that, oddly enough, looked a lot like Butterfree. The frog they encountered on the floor had a faint poisonous mist spreading throughout, and the moth had the ability to scatter its scales into the air. Scales that immobilize anything they touch. Had it not been for Tsubasa and Airi killed them on the first sight, they would have been in grave danger in the labyrinth; to say the least.
The poison spat out by the frog could have invade their nervous systems and injure them almost as badly as the first time they ate monster meat. Combined with the paralyzing scales from the giant moth, it's a sure-way to the afterlife.
Although if it had actually happened, they would have the countermeasure as Hajime already made several small bottles of Ambrosia beforehand and he gave one bottle for each of them for emergency-case. Hajime also asked them to stick the small bottle on their back.
At their puzzled faces, Hajime also explained that the bottle was made of weak stone that broke easily with a single bite. While he stuck his share of small dosage of Ambrosia on his back teeth, Airi asked Tsubasa to stick her share of small dosage of Ambrosia on her back teeth, which he complied but he did it roughly, making Airi pout at him for that while he stuck his share of small dosage of Ambrosia on his back teeth, purposely ignoring her pouting.
Hajime felt a bit disappointed that he couldn't see the monsters' abilities, but he remembered this outcome was much better than them having to use the emergency solution this soon.
Of course they ate the moths and frogs. Airi asked whether the emergency Ambrosia should be taken off of their mouths or not before they eat and the three of them decided that the ration won't be taken off. After all, they still have to drink the Ambrosia after eating the moths and frogs. Hajime reassured them as he'd made few more of the emergency rations of Ambrosia.
There were some hesitations before Hajime ate the moths and the frogs, but he reminded himself that it's to make him stronger, which helped him cope with the food. Hajime remembered that he was irritated when he found out that the frogs actually tasted better than the other monsters so far.
On the other hand, Tsubasa just ate them casually with no hesitation or discomfort being shown while Airi stubbornly kept refusing to eat the moths and frogs. Tsubasa offered to feed the meat himself but Airi still vehemently refused. Without any other choice, Tsubasa just took a bite of moths and frogs, before he passed it to Airi's mouth by kissing her.
Obviously, Airi was surprised and she initially struggled to get away from her boyfriend, as she fully knew that it was his attempt to feed her the moths and frogs. Well, at least that's how it initially went before she finally gave up and then linked her hands behind Tsubasa's neck.
Knowing what's gonna happen, Tsubasa parted away from Airi's mouth as he called exasperatedly "Airi..."
"Fufu, you're the one who started it, Tsu-kkun." Airi replied sultrily "You can't blame me for that."
"Psh, says the girl who kept refusing to eat her share." Tsubasa countered dryly.
Airi still giggled sultrily "That's true, but hey, eating them this way is much more enticing to me."
Tsubasa just deadpanned at her as he said "You just wanna making out."
Airi confirmed "That I do." Before she leaned to his ear as she whispered directly to Tsubasa's ear "But what about you, Tsu-kkun?"
Hajime groaned at that which attracted Tsubasa and Airi's attentions. Hajime then asked "Would you mind moving away a bit if you two still gonna continue making out?"
Tsubasa had decency to be ashamed and genuinely apologized "My bad, Hajime."
Meanwhile, Airi didn't feel shame at that and she just lightly said "Fufufu, I'm sorry, Ha-kun. Let's continue this somewhere else, Tsu-kkun."
"You're talking like I'm gonna go along with your whim, Airi." Tsubasa retorted.
"Oh, so you want us to keep bothering Ha-kun?" Airi countered which made Tsubasa click his teeth and Airi giggled as she had finally managed to breach his defense.
Tsubasa then carried Airi in bridal carry while Airi holding their share of meats before they went off somewhere not far away from Hajime, finally leaving him alone. Hajime could only sigh in relief as he continued eating.
After they finished eating and regrouping (Mind you, Tsubasa and Airi were still virgins and they were just making out earlier), they continued descending the labyrinth. Even though they were deep underground, they too had passed through a floor that resembled the Amazon Jungle. The air was very humid and the air hung around them. It was the worst floor they had ever walked on. The monsters they faced on the floor were giant centipedes and living trees.
Despite of previously hardening they hearts, Hajime and Airi still had goosebumps when a giant centipede descended from a tall tree branch. It was the most disgusting sight he had ever seen. Tsubasa just stared impassively at that scenery as he has seen much more disgusting sight compared to that.
Tsubasa was about to attack the enemy before the centipede suddenly split itself into various pieces to attack them too. What they thought of as only one enemy then suddenly splits into thirty, like an army of cockroaches coming out of a very disgusting kitchen.
Hajime had shot [Donner] as fast as he could to destroy them, but unfortunately it had been too much. Since reloading would take too long, he stopped to slaughter them with his (Gale Claw). But even that wasn't enough to take it all out, so he had to kick, which was not his forte.
Meanwhile, Tsubasa struggled a bit as he initially used rapid punches but it turns out slower than he wanted to. Tsubasa only muttered 'I see' before he decided to use rapid sword attack. For Airi who had no problem in continuous rapid attack, it's actually easy for her to defeat them all. In fact, Airi was the one who had the most kill against the centipede army, by a far margin.
When the battle was finally over, Airi freaked out immediately after the battle ended and she quickly went to hide behind Tsubasa while Hajime had sworn to himself that he would work on improving reload time and kicking skills. He was tired of being bathed in purple and disgusting blood.
The tree monsters on the floor were basically Treants he'd seen in RPGs. They used their roots to attack from underground, while also their branches twisted like whips.
Although the fake Treant's true strength didn't lie in such a simple skill. when they were in trouble, they would start shaking their heads wildly, throwing red fruit at their enemies. The fruit they threw didn't hurt, and just to test it, Hajime, Tsubasa and Airi had tried to eat it. When they did, they had been standing there for almost an hour (For Tsubasa, he even just stood there for more than an hour). The fruit does not contain poison. In fact, it feels good. It tastes sweet and refreshing, like watermelon.
The fact that it was currently the most unpleasant floor he had come across completely vanished from their heads. Their determination to conquer even the labyrinth temporarily left their minds. This was the first time they had eaten anything other than monster meat in months.
Their eyes became that of hunters (It's worth noticing that Tsubasa's eyes were like he was being possessed by something. Among three of them, Tsubasa was the one with the biggest sweet tooth), and they spent a lot of time hunting down the fake Treant. By the time the desire for the fruit had finally been filled, the Treants had been hunted to near extinction.
After fulfilling their desires for the fruit, they decided to take some rests. There, Hajime let his mind wander to something strange happening to Tsubasa's strength and fighting styles. He has witnessed a glimpse of Tsubasa's unarmed hand-to-hand combat prowess several times and albeit he hasn't witness it directly in the past, Tsubasa said that he was quite confident on his swordplay so it's strange that Tsubasa was given a job that was supposed to boost both fighting styles yet both of it getting rustier. Not to mention, the fact that Tsubasa was supposed to be much stronger than this added to Hajime's confusion. As he kept thinking about this, he heard his name being called.
"Hajime!"
Hajime snapped out of his thoughts as he saw Airi confused at what caused him to zone out while Tsubasa seemingly knew what he was thinking.
"Looks like you're also wondering the same thing, huh?" Tsubasa asked vaguely.
Airi getting more confused as she asked "Eh? What were you two thinking about?"
"It's the fact that Tsubasa's hand-to-hand combat is getting rusty. I'm not sure about his sword style, though" Hajime replied as Tsubasa nodded, confirming Airi's question.
"So, Tsu-kkun wasn't intentionally suppressing his power." Airi pondered before she added "Not to mention, if I'm not mistaken Tsu-kkun also has the knowledge and experience for other weaponry usage, such as shuriken or even nunchaku..."
Hajime interrupted her as he exclaimed "Whoa, whoa, shuriken and nunchaku? I don't know you can use those, Tsubasa."
"Well, you've only seen me fighting against small fries at the school or at the alley so far, why should I use those for the likes of them?" Tsubasa curtly replied.
"Well, you're not wrong about it." Hajime muttered.
"Anyway, regarding what Airi said earlier, shuriken and nunchaku doesn't even exist in this world, well yeah I can still do shuriken training with knives and for the latter, I can just create makeshift nunchaku, but..."
Hajime and Airi simply raised their eyebrows at Tsubasa trailing off before he finally continued "...that's only when I still had all of my skill and experience on using shuriken and nunchaku."
Hajime and Airi widened their eyes as they were very shocked at that. Tsubasa then finished "That's also why I never bother to try holding myself back. My power has already been tampered this far and I'm not that stupid enough to limit myself even further."
"Wait, does this have something to do with the reason why my stats and Tsu-kkun's ended up being below that of Amanogawa-kun?" Airi exclaimed as she remembered when the class was being introduced to the status plate.
"Could it be these two phenomena actually connected with each other?" Hajime wondered as he assumed it has something to do with his best friend's condition.
Tsubasa replied dryly "If I knew the answer, I would've enlightened both of you by now."
"Hm, I have a theory about it but..." Hajime started before Tsubasa told him to go ahead with the theory "Most likely you two were being nerfed by whoever brought us here so that you two wouldn't overshadow his chosen hero...that's what I think." Tsubasa and Airi let their best friend's theory being processed for a bit "For the reason why your fighting style getting duller despite having the Monk and Light Warrior job...Beat me, I have no clue either."
"I think I know why my fighting style was getting duller. If your theory indeed true, most likely they're making fools of me by entirely erasing my previous combat prowess and replacing some of it when they gave me (Close Quarters Combat Proficiency) and (Swordsmanship), thinking I wouldn't notice the difference." Tsubasa started before he continued.
"In Airi's case, I bet the nerf she got only the stats decrease. I know she's decent when it comes to sword style before but she's improved even more ever since coming here. On the other hand, her unarmed combat prowess kept getting better. Her fighting style didn't get any tampering at all." Tsubasa finished. Airi then widened her eyes before she exclaimed.
"Wait, that means Tsu-kkun got even worse nerf than I did, right? Not only his stat ended up being decreased but every skill and experience on other fighting styles he knew before coming here also got taken away."
Hajime raised his eyebrows again as from how Airi said it, Tsubasa seems knew even more fighting styles than he thought.
"Meh, ultimately it doesn't really bother me." Tsubasa said while shrugging off. Tsubasa then opened his left hand before he gazed at it as he continued. "Besides, what I meant earlier was while my muscle memory completely forgot them but my brain can still clearly remember every references I used for my fighting style." Tsubasa then clenched his left hand with a determined expression.
"Tsu-kkun, even if you still can re-learn those, how long do you think..." Airi tried to counter before Tsubasa interrupted her.
"Airi." Airi then looked at her boyfriend before the said boyfriend said "You forget just how fast I learn something?"
Airi stuttered a bit as she replied "I...I know that you learn quickly, very quickly even but still..."
"Don't worry about it." Tsubasa reassured his girlfriend before he continued "I have a plan about it."
Hajime and Airi were confused at what Tsubasa was planning but before either of them asked him about it, Tsubasa then said.
"Besides, the fact that Hajime didn't receive any buff whatsoever, well excluding (Transmute) bothered me more than the other nerfs I've got so far. Again, it's more like whoever brought us here made fools of us. Especially Hajime and me. Besides, don't you ever feel, at least insulted or something? Being dragged here against your will, even more you're being treated like you're nothing while the others or even us were being given special treatment. Well, the special treatment itself is pretty subjective though."
"Tsu-kkun!" Airi reprimanded her boyfriend; having snapped out of her sadness earlier.
"I am right though, aren't I?" Tsubasa retorted.
Hajime diffused another potential-couple-argument by saying "It's fine, Airi-san, what Tsubasa said was a fact."
"But..." Airi tried to protest before Hajime continued.
"I already accepted that I used to be a failure, and that is an undeniable fact. No matter how much I whine or cry, it won't change anything. All I can do is keep moving forward and create a future where I'm no longer a failure. After all, that's what you two taught me, right?" Hajime said with him smiling (not the savage smile).
Tsubasa only looked impassively while Airi was surprised at Hajime's sudden speech.
"Well, whoever they are for thinking I'm still a failure after getting out of this hell, bring it on! While searching for potential way to our home, I'll carve it to their faces." Hajime stood up before he put his right fist to his left palm "The member of Abyss Monster Trio, the very same Nagumo Hajime you've always looked down is NO LONGER A FAILURE!"
While listening to their best friend's declaration, both Tsubasa and Airi thought about how relieved they are upon realizing that Hajime definitely won't fall even further to the darkness, but they also felt concerned on how to restore their best friend's humanity.
Sure, they wanted their best friend to strengthened his resolve but never occurred to their minds that Hajime would actually cast aside his humanity. Knowing that, it made them feel not any difference with the people who looked down upon Hajime.
Unbeknownst to them, the sufferings that Tsubasa and Airi had to endure at that time was actually the additional factors on why Hajime resolved to cast aside his humanity. So at that time, whether Tsubasa and Airi wanted Hajime to strengthen his resolve or not didn't really change anything.
In short, it was all on Hajime who decided to forsake his humanity yet Tsubasa and Airi felt guilty at that.
As Tsubasa and Airi's minds kept wandering, they heard one thing they hadn't heard before. They then repeated it "Abyss Monster Trio? What's that?"
"It's the name of our team." Hajime replied simply.
"Well, I mean why are you suddenly giving a name to our team?" Tsubasa asked with an annoyed face.
"It's fine, isn't it?" Hajime complained "Besides, it's not that the name is bad or anything, though. In fact, I felt like the name is badass, don't you think?"
Tsubasa and Airi truly didn't know what to answer to that question.
After the break and a bit more processing of how their team suddenly has a name, the Abyss Monster Trio kept stepping through the floor until they passed 50 before they knew it. And there's still a maze path going down endlessly. Hajime kept honing his shooting, kicking, and transmutation skills. Airi just did some practice on her sword style while Tsubasa only did meditation.
