1 week later...
Nilsha sat down quietly as her arms carefully lifted the forked food up to her lips for her to bite. Her eyes never leaving the plate despite the stares that her entire family had given to her. Her fathers why eyes weren't of skepticism, rather they were slightly leaning to happiness as if assuming that his daughter finally had come to her senses and had left the human man, even though she reminded him many times over that she did no such thing, just giving her time to heal and assess the troubles of their relationship, but yet her father was persistent also to assume that she would eventually leave him, but still his stance remains the same, him greatly showing disapproval of their relationship, but at least now he is much gentler towards her in the last few days when she had returned back to their house.
Swallowing the food inside her mouth, and then immediately she picked up again. Her pregnancy had left her hungry for the most part. At first she was ashamed at herself, coming back to their house after a bitter end to their encounter, but yet she was welcomed quite warmly to her surprise. Her father still narrows his brows wondering why she wasn't with "her human" clearly retaining his position of his strong disapproval, but it seems he's going to welcome his daughter into his household as long as Galvane wasn't with her.
"You're eating more than you usually ate Nilsha." Her father noticed. It made Nilsha pause for a bit, looking at him but her eyes withdraw immediately and just went back to eat.
"It's just comfort eating my dear. It's not easy to recover from it just days when she had fallen out a bit from her mate." Alteria chimed in. It is a relief for her that her mother is just there to answer everything for her. Ever since she had came back, she had to avoid her much, keeping whatever conversations they have as small as possible just to hide her condition. Her father never knows how a woman acts during a pregnancy, and Sheandre had never been pregnant, thus a bit ignorant to such, but her mother on the other hand would easily detect her given the chance.
Her father chuckled, a grin showed as he began. "How troublesome with that damn human of yours. I knew he was just nothing but a bother to you, they are just the same, these humans are."
"I have no interest in discussing this if that is what you are trying to start father." Nilsha raised, her eyes lingering unto him before focusing back unto her food to continue to eat, indeed the pregnancy is taking its toll on her hunger. "Besides, I can't even if I want to." she thought she had said it only to herself, but she was too late to realize that she had actually said it out loud.
"What does that suppose to mean?" Her father raised. His eyes narrowed at her, and her mother and her sister also had picked it up.
She lightly shakes her head. "It means less." She said, it her surprised her even on how calm she had been, anxiety didn't affect her. It seems her fallout with Galvane made her not to expect much, if your lover hits you with lies and hurts you with it, then her family's words aren't much. Nilsha is just glad that she knew her lies right now would lead to just protecting herself and her child inside of her. "My lover pushed me away because of his lies, If he was not my mate, If he was just courting me I would have left him without a doubt, but he's my mate now, I said my vows and that is that." The understatement in her words was unparalleled. In truth when she had finally had found out the truth of Galvane's past, she wanted to get away from him permanently. She had said the harshest of words that she could have think of, departing when her anger had receded with such a stern warning to her lover.
Her words cut through him until he was kneeling in tears, begging. Then she had left him when he had asked whether she would leave him forever, only to say that she is 'uncertain' essentially leaving him to wallow in fear of losing her. And now that a week had passed, the realization of it hurt, it broke her heart that she is in love with a human whose life is surrounded with danger, probably having to live out as a Death Knight in the near future.
Her father just chuckled loudly. "Are you really that blind that you could just freely leave that man wallowing in his own grief? You have a choice to just leave my daughter." He stressed out loud before returning back to focus on his plate.
"We are mates, we have consummated-" Nilsha was interrupted by a thunderous shock on the table as her father suddenly stood up. His mouth was stuttering, his face was painted with unbridled rage, his eyes were pointed into nothing, just sudden surge of anger upon hearing her say such thing. His sudden reaction caused everyone to pause on the table, his lips crushed against each others as they tried to swallow the saliva that was in his mouth. Nilsha had just froze, her head hung down, her eyes down cast.
He briefly looks at Nilsha before hanging his head down, then shifting off from his chair.
Alteria noticed and then spoke. "Where are you going love?"
Exhaling loudly, he slowly says. "I've lost my appetite, I'm going to our bedroom for a bit."
"But we're-"
"My say is final, and we should leave it at that..." He cuts her off as he moved away from the table and walked on from them till he was out of sight and then they were able to hear the sound of a door being locked. And in his departure, everything went quiet in the table. Sheandre was silent, staring at her food aimlessly without having to touch it anymore, while Alteria just looked at her eldest daughter who kept on eating quietly, yet her face painted with shame.
Nilsha wanted to say something, just anything to disperse this moment. But nothing came out as she just hung her head low, eventually releasing her fork and just stopped at everything, staying quiet. Even when her maternal hunger calls for her to eat, she had lost her appetite. She falls in deeper in the pit that she had made herself when she had left Galvane, thinking that perhaps she could stay awhile, rekindle with the rest of her family as she thought through on her fissured relationship with Galvane, but now she thought of herself being so naive to think that it would actually succeed.
The dawn is looming on them Nilsha, had lived in human society for so long that she had seem to forget that she is an elf of the night, living like a human, waking in the morning while sleeping during the night, sleeping like one. Just like how she had forgotten her people's prejudice towards mortal lives, that she had forgotten how 'forbidden is her relationship with Galvane, just brushing it off, forgetting how cruel reality can be. And now this is reality for her, her father as prejudiced as ever, probably disowning her as a daughter once he discovers her pregnancy, her sister would probably would do nothing, because she could do nothing while her mother would support her, but still has responsibilities as to be a mate of her husband, while Galvane would die by the Death Knight's hands and raised as an undead husk, a slave to them and she doesn't know if Galvane would even recognize her again for a chance to hold him if it comes to that.
That would leave her alone to handle all things, even if she wanted to love again if Galvane truly is gone, for her children, but no Elven or human man would ever come near to a husband less mother of two half elven children. She could only stay quiet for now, praying that Elune is merciful towards her as tears began to emerge from her eyes.
Nilsha quietly slips to the quiet woods, with people outside knowing who she is because of her controversy of interracial marriage, suspicion would be even more abundant if ever they found out about her puking in some episodes. She had to be quiet knowing that her people are out in the night, not having the luxury to quietly hide her episode in a private place like the inn that she had lived in with Galvane.
Looking around, seeing that she went far enough, finding a small bush to get behind on, her stomach lurched, knocking the air out of her once more as the bile had risen up from her throat and released from her. It stung, it wasn't pleasant or anything, it stung, it makes her breath heave greatly as she shuddered as more and more bile released. Her eyes teared up as she spat the last bits from her mouth, the horrid taste still fresh from her mouth. Her symptoms had grown more violent in the last few days, she had also been getting hungrier as her body demands for her unborn child to be fed.
She took in a few moments to calm herself and her body. Slowly breathing she sat next to a tree and rested her head, just slightly looking at the reality she is facing.
Alteria looked down on her, hidden from her daughter's sight, her daughter is carrying, carrying life inside of her she knew that now. It is made clear now to her with all the symptoms, where she eats more than she usually does, and having to excuse herself for a while, to relieve herself of the bile that possesses her throat. And now Alteria felt for her daughter, knowing the things that had surrounded her life for the moment, her mate had fallen out from her while her, to then having to seek refuge from the emotional turmoil that she is in, in the form of her own home and family, yet only to receive the cold shoulder, which her father only welcomes her because her mate is not with her, while she hides from her mother to hide her own pregnancy.
Nilsha noticed her when she heard her mothers footsteps. Her eyes immediately went wide and quickly stood up, facing her, wiping the quick tears from her eyes before putting on a face. "Mother! I was just-" Nilsha tried to speak but no words continue on from her lips. Hearing a sigh from her, Nilsha's heart beats faster, as if she already knew her mother would reveal something to her.
Putting a hand on her shoulder, Atleria softly assured her daughter. "I know now Nilsha, no need to hide it any longer." She says. Looking at her daughter, she didn't expect her to tremble and shrunk as she suddenly covered her her face with her hands, staining it with her tears. Alteria could only catch her daughter as she knelt beside her, surprised.
Looking up, for a moment Nilsha faced her mother in the moment of her emotions. "Now you know, now you know, now you know." She mumbled repetitively, having to cry at the revelation that her secret is finally revealed. "Am I a failure of a daughter, mother?" Nilsha suddenly blurted out a question.
Alteria did not expect that such a thing would come out from her daughters mouth, such as even considering herself as a failure because she is now pregnant. "Nilsha, what are you saying?" Alteria asked, confused that her daughter could even consider the words that she had said. "You have been what any mother would ever want for her daughter, you made your choice and I would never ever consider you something other than what I have always wanted from a daughter Nilsha." She comforts, yet her words did not affect her.
Finally looking up to face her mother, her eyes teared up even more as she struggled to form her words. "How?! When I'll be a mother with no husband! My child will not be able to experience the love of a father! I will struggle alone raising! Even if I will try to love again, no man would ever touch me! No man or elf-"
Cutting off her daughter's word Alteria firmly held on to her shoulder and deeply looked at her. "Nilsha what is it that you are saying? Are you not happy with that man? Have you not made your choice? You were so happy with him just a week ago yet now you speak of him as if he is close to death!" Alteria exclaimed, her voice was strong, full of maternal concern.
"Mother I love him so much! But he didn't reveal everything of himself to me and now my unborn child and I will pay the price!" She sobbed before continuing on. "He said he was a warrior, whom who had fought against the Lich King, he was a broken man but yet he was strong despite having no family. I fell for him because he showed perseverance, he made me happy and made me feel safe under him yet he remained quiet despite my trust of him!"
Alteria could only offer her hand to the side of her cheek as she tries to console her daughter. "Nilsha, once more I ask you. Who did you marry? Mated with? Are you happy with him?"
She shook her head. "I'm happy...now I'm unsure now because I might not even get to see him hold his children!" she sobbed, her head hungdown as her hand curled to a fist on her chest as her heart aches. Ached on how much it hurt, to finally have someone to tell her own problems that she is facing right now, even if she does not even have any control, she would at least find relief that she had finally voiced her transgressions to her mother.
Alteria frowned, she doesn't know what transpires between her daughter and her mate, and she doubts that Nilsha would ever tell her on what happened between them but she respects that. Putting her hands on both of her cheeks, Alteria softly removed the tears that stained her face , smiling down on to her. "Nilsha, I know not what do in your situation since I do not have any power over it, nor is it I my responsibility to repair it, but I'll support you Nilsha, whatever it takes so that you and your mate would reconcile and fix this problem." She says, yet it only served to do nothing as Nilsha's expression was just blank.
Then she fixated herself on Nilsha's condition, she was pregnant, and she had hid it from them, probably fearing what their thoughts would be knowing that their society holds on about half breeds. Reaching down from her pocket, her own stone rune of Elune. She moved the stone on the surface of her womb and watched it glow, bright Amber for being a girl and bright Blue for a boy. As she looked at her weeping daughter, the rune stone finally revealed its answers to her, and with it, her eyes went wide at the revelation.
Softly putting her fingers on her daughter's chin, she mad her look up. "Nilsha..." Showing the dark amber glow of the stone. "You're going to have twins...two beautiful daughters."
Nilsha's couldn't believe what her mother is saying. Twins...she's going to be a mother of twins, daughters that is. She doesn't whether or not to be happy or to be concerned but she could only remain speechless as this piece of important news was brought upon her. How she wanted Galvane's support so much right now, but yet for some reason there is still so much anger towards him ingrained in her.
Noticing her mother's hand she gently took it as she helped her stood up. Softly clutching, she narrowed her brows in concern as if mentally pleading for help from her mother about this situation that she is in. And as if hearing her pleas her mother's hands softly rest unto her back while her other hand slips unto her still flat stomach. "Nilsha...you're not alone in this, you know that right? When you and your mate stumbles, I am here for you." She consoled, Nilsha could only smile as a response. At least for the time being, finding solace in her mothers arms.
Nilsha stares over, still in shock to the revelation that had been revealed to her. To say that she felt betrayed is an understatement of the highest, what she felt is something beyond the words to be described, betrayed, heart broken, lied to or any other words that would describe what she felt, it felt short to what she felt currently in her heart. The man, whom she loved and trust could only stare at the floor beneath their feet, his face mortified, unable to face the wrath that is in her face. This event that transpired made her question everything, whether or not she had mistaken her love for Galvane, maybe she had indeed mistaken the man.
Her hands curled to fists on her side, inside her mind she really wanted to hit him, wanting him to feel it physically what is it like to be felt so betrayed by a man who kept on saying everything is going to be fine and that there is nothing to worry, and that she has to worry about forgiving her parents, while hiding the truth of his past, that now she is pregnant of his children, his children that he would probably would never see.
Nilsha then began, finally finding her voice. "Galvane..." She started, every tone of her voice drips in betrayal. "Do you have any idea how I felt right now? What is it like to hear from them? To finally know everything about you..." Her voice echoed, trailing off at the very tips of her lips, tears began to drip from the corner of her eyes, but it wasn't out of sadness, know it was of anger, to know how betrayed she is. "I understand how you wanted to fight for your family's honor, to avenge them...but to sell your soul? To them?" Her voice was soft, but yet she was like a saber cat ready to strike with her words.
Galvane tried to look at her in the eyes, but yet he falters, feeling the shame and disappointment in her. "I-I don't know Nilsha..." He replied, his body quivering under her gaze, despite being twice her size, he was the smaller person here.
Nilsha lightly chuckles, but then it fades away immediately. "You don't know...so tell me right now Galvane do you still know that you love me?"
Galvane's eyes widened, is she really now doubting his love for her? With trembling lips he stood up and faced her, his brows narrowed with so much concern. "Nilsha...I love you so much-"
"Yet I don't feel it right now..." She says and with her words she silenced him as he could not answer what she is saying to him right now. If that is what she felt in this relationship. Her expressions where just unpredictable, as if nearing to explode, and indeed she did. "AH DAMN IT GALVANE! YOU STUPID! STUPID HUMAN!" It was the first time that she had ever used such language, she's not one to tell an individual about their race but right now her rage just took her over, and Galvane could just listen on with widened and saddened eyes as a frown painted his face, having to take in her verbal assault. "You should just be glad that I am pregnant with your child, or else I would have left you already from the moment I've heard them. I mean, have you really even thought about our lives together..." then she raised her voice again. "KNOWING WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE YOU HAVE BEEN, AND THE THINGS YOU DID! DID YOU KNOW THAT MY LOVE FOR YOU WAS REAL GALVANE?! I LOVED YOU REGARDLESS WHETHER YOU WERE HUMAN OR NOT, I LOVED YOU REGARDLESS YOU WHERE YOU WERE A MAN WITH A HORRID AND BROKEN PAST I LOVED YOU, BUT WHY DID YOU KEEP THE TRUTH AWAY FROM ME TILL IT WAS TOO LATE AND I'M NOW PREGNANT WITH YOUR CHILD!" She yelled, her eyes pouring on with their tears.
The man could only keep quiet, trying to hold the tears that stung his eyes. She is right about everything, everything she had said is correct, about how selfish he is to keep such truth from her in order to just have her in his life. "I-I've..." Galvane choked, trying to find the proper words as his eyes tried to look at her teary ones directly, and hers burned with anger and betrayal. He wondered if Nilsha's love drifted, had let go of him, because she could say it right now, for her to ask him to never come and seek her or love her or that what they have is all but shattered he will do it, and never show his face to her again. He could finally realize how much of a bastard he is. "Would I ever see you again Nilsha?" Galvane laments, every syllables trembled in his lips.
Nilsha held her head high, her wrath seemingly relents to his question. "I do not know Galvane. I'll leave to give me time for myself to reflect and the wounds might heal to forgive you...but you have broken my heart."
"Then...have I lost you?"
"Nor do I know that answer yet."
Galvane kept on slicing through the wooden dummy. His eyes were heavy as he hacked and hacked, despite lacking sleep, it seems like is not even needing it, because ever since Nilsha found out the truth and she had expressed her sadness and anger, sleep never came to him that much. He puts all his effort in tbe barracks in hoping to having something else to do lest not he wants grief and anger get to him. Ever since that, he dedicated his entire self in serving the barracks, leaving the inn and staying at the barracks as his home for now that perhaps there might be something that would stop the Ebon Blade for having his soul. And despite his secret skirmish with the Twilight Cultist that for some reason had began to rapidly spread around the forest, nothing of note had happened to help him, but at least in all of the skirmish none of his ranks had died be it an elven man or a woman.
He still shudders at the thought that Nilsha does not know that he risk his life everyday, despite assuring her that he might not fight ever again, just another lie in the ocean of lies that he had said to her.
Grunting as sweat profusely drips down from his skin, Galvane kept on swinging his mighty enchanted weapon. It had been silent for a day, never really giving advises for the moment, and how he wished he had listen. Just as he was about to swing an another blow, his captain suddenly appeared on the training area, stopping him. Galvane sighed. "What is it captain? Can't you see I'm lost here?"
The captain nodded, he can feel the man, since he had felt it before where a woman left him but he grew out of it because another came to his life. But him on the other hand is an another story. But he puts those things aside for now as he came in with a piece of map to the human man. "It's getting really dangerous for the village Galvane." he says.
Galvane relents and puts his axe down for the moment. "It always had been dangerous around the village. I'm sneaking in and fighting in secrecy from my wife as I chop their heads off! What else are you going to ask me anyway other than stating the obvious?"
The captain approached him as he made Galvane look on to the map, it is the map in the whole twenty kilometers in the village and a large x mark was put just half way on it. "What is this?" Galvane asked, his anger had recede for a moment as it seems whatever the mark is, it seems desperately important.
"Just got a message from a runner from a sentinel camp ten kilometers away from here in the east, they said that they fought a skirmish and lost against cultist because it was a full on battle and they were outnumbered, they had to retreat. " He warned, looking at him as the information was given. But not only that, the danger comes their way now. "And they said their coming also to us, a whole battalion of cultist, ogres, and whatever they are fighting for."
Galvane bit his lip as his face crumpled up in confusion. "Then why are the men not yet mobilized? They should be already evacuating the surrounding villages already! Set the men up for a perimeter!" Galvane yelled, having such a shock that such danger would ever come close in this village.
"We did, we started an hour ago, we're just about to move-"
A soldier then suddenly rushes in, tumbling down on a wooden barrel as ran up to them. "Captain, they're almost here, we tried to set up a perimeter around, but they're already so close to the village. We escaped with our lives but it gives them free reign in getting inside the village."
He wasn't even able to finish before the two figures stormed out from the barracks.
