38. The TɅle of sɅzɅriN
heɅVily Ʌbridged
When sazariN had been praying in the temple for ninety-nine years, Almighty Sinnoh finally appeared to him, taking on human form. His robes were made of platinum, and His eyes glowed the red of the world's ancient dawn.
"My Almighty!" the Ancient Hero cried, prostrating himself. "My patience has rewarded me! Truly You are the ruler of all timE!"
Almighty Sinnoh looked upon His worshiper. He reached out His hands, but when sazariN took them, he quivered and shrank into himself, terrified.
The Almighty spake:
"Ninety-nine years thou hast prayed in the temple, sazariN. Old and withered thou greet Me. Wilt thou not see the error in a life of such piety? What if I never chose to appear in the Temple? Would thy faith crumble? Or would it endure to thy death?"
sazariN trembled. Thinking this was a test, he answered:
"I will die soon, Great Almighty — this is true. But when my son learns that I have seen You, he will tell his son, who will tell his son, and forever after I will live with my descendants. By Your grace, I am immortal — the patriarch of a thousand generations!"
Almighty Sinnoh nodded, considering this. But still incensed, He raised one finger and struck a blow upon The Sekki's brow.
"Bright, strong, fervent mortal sazariN. Thou and thy people shalt languish praying to Me — a god who does nothing but maintain Time's cycles of suffering. There has already been a great man with your face, and there shalt be another. Even now, generations from now — millennia and eons from now, there shalt be more like thee, who wait for something that tests their patience to the death. I have seen thee like the facets of a Diamond. Thou hast done nothing singular. Thou art irrelevant. The faith of thy people shalt leave this world a waste. And when this world ends, the next one will make the same mistakes."
sazariN trembled. His brow had split. Blood stained the stones of the Temple.
"Shall we ever be free of this faith?" he asked. "Shall we ever then make history?"
Almighty Sinnoh answered, his voice like the dark of the night:
"All things remain to be seen."
And if you do not know what happened generations after that, you must listen to what is told in the next chapter.
