With the nausea finally dissipating, Emily got up this morning a little earlier than usual. She decided that she would go downstairs and get an early start on her day. She placed her robe on and slipped on her slippers. As she was walking past the mirror, she quickly saw a glance of herself. She untied her robe and took another look at herself. She placed her hand on her stomach. She was starting to show. Not entirely sure when that happened. Knowing that she hadn't told the team yet, she knew that it would have to be soon. Tying her robe back, she quickly walked down the hallway and down the stairs.
After making breakfast and having a small cup of coffee, she heard the small foot pattern coming down the stairs. She smiled when she saw the little figure with crazy hair coming down the stairs.
"Someone must have slept pretty well last night." Emily stated as Natalia walked into the kitchen and gave her mother a hug.
"Mmmhm. Did you sleep okay Mommy?"
"I did, did you want some breakfast?"
"Yeah."
"Okay sit down at the table and I will bring your breakfast to you. "
Natalia nodded and headed to the table. Emily set her breakfast on the table in front of her and then sat at the table next to her.
"Are you going to eat Mommy?"
"I already did baby."
"Oh."
"Don't worry about me. Just eat your breakfast and then we will get dressed."
"Okay."
A little while longer, she looked at her watch and saw that it was almost time to get ready. She needed to get ready for work and to get Natalia ready for her last day of school. She couldn't believe it. Summer was about to start. Natalia was going to start in a new school year and then before they knew it, the new baby would be here.
Emily was finishing her daughter's lunch when she heard her phone ringing. She placed the lunch pale in her daughter's back pack and then went over to the phone and saw that it was JJ. She knew that she wouldn't have time to talk, she would just see her at the office later. She placed the phone down and headed up stairs.
"Natalia, Are you ready? Grandma will be here soon to take you to your class okay?." she yelled from her bathroom.
"Yeah Mommy! I'm just getting my shoes on."
Okay. After you finish, I need you to brush your teeth."
"Okay." Emily was finishing up when she heard the faucet turning on.
"Natalia Honey, I left your bag in your room take it with you when you go downstairs. Don't forget that okay?"
"Okay!"
There was a knock at the door, Emily walked towards the door and looked into the peephole. Emily smiled and opened the door.
"Hello My darling!" the woman said as she gave Emily a hug.
"Hi Marie! Gosh it's so good to see you."
"You too Emily. How are you?"
"Come on in." Emily motioned and opened the door wider. She shut the door and followed her into the living room. "I'm doing okay. Work is keeping me busy. What about you?"
"I'm doing well. Caleb and his wife just had another baby. I was thinking about taking Natalia to see her Uncle and cousins if that's okay with you."
"Of coarse! She'll be excited to see him."
"Grandma?" Natalia asked as she came running down the stairs with her bag on her back.
"Hey Sweet Girl! You've gotten so big!" Natalia jumped into her arms and gave her a hug
"Yup I'm 5 now!"
"Oh my goodness! That is so old!"
"No way Jose." Natalia smiled when she heard both Marie and Emily laugh.
"Okay you two. Have fun okay, and I'll see you on Sunday."
Natalia climbed out of her grandmother's arms and ran into her mother's.
"I love you Mommy. I'm going to miss you!"
"I'm going to miss you too. I love you so so soo much. Have a good day at school and have a good weekend with grandma."
"Okay, I will. Love you too mommy."
"Bye Mommy!"
"Bye Baby. " she gave her daughter a kiss and she set her back down.
After Natalia left, the house seemed quiet. A little too quiet. She missed Natalia already and she had just left. The silence was interrupted with a ring. She looked down at her phone. She answered the phone and placed the phone to her ear.
"Hey JJ."
"Emily, finally! I have been trying to get a hold of you!"
"Sorry! I was getting Natalia up and ready to go to her summer class and then her grandmother's"
"Your mom?"
"No, Levi's mom. She called me out of the blue and wanted to see Natalia. The last time she saw her was about a year ago. "
"Oh that's nice."
"Yeah, I figured that she still needs his family just as much as she needs me."
"Very true..."
There was a long awkward pause.
"Is there something you want to ask JJ?"
"What gave it away?" she giggled
"I can sense your hesitation."
"Look, Yesterday I heard some of the guys talking about you... about how much weight you've gained. I tried putting a stop to it, but I know that there's going to be some talk. I just wanted you to hear it from me rather than hearing it from someone else."
"It's not one of our guys right?"
"No not at all, they know better than that. "
"Thanks JJ. Um, I was planning on telling the team soon. I looked into the mirror this morning and saw that I popped a little bit. Oh and I can't fit into my pants anymore."
JJ laughed
"Oh come on JJ, it's not that funny."
"Emily.. I'm sorry. I've been there, It only gets bigger from here."
Emily rolled her eyes,
"Thanks for that."
"Am I seeing you in the office today?"
"Yeah, Im just running behind schedule today. "
"Is there anything I could do?"
"No, I just need to finish up at home. I feel like a chicken and I'm running around with my head cut off."
'It only goes up from her Em." JJ said sarcastically.
"Goodbye JJ. Ill see you at the office."
"Bye Em." she said laughing.
Finishing up, Emily grabbed her purse, keys, and headed out the door. When she got into the car, she sat down in the drivers seat, and when she moved to put her seat belt on, she felt her button on her pants pop off. "Oh Dammit" She said as she started the car. Now she knew that she couldn't put it off for any longer and with what JJ said, she needed to come out with the truth.
When she got to the office, she parked the car and got out the car. She looked down at her pants to only realize that her missing button was more noticeable than she had thought. She rolled her eyes and tried to cover it with the bag in her hand. She had hoped that no one would notice. When she finally reached the elevator, she started to feel nauseous. 'Great' she thought as she tried to think away the thought of vomiting. That didn't work as well as she had hoped. When the doors opened, she quickly walked over to the bathroom. At this point, she was grateful that the doors had opened when they did.
Emily was hovering over the toilet when she had heard the door open. 'Great another thing that I need at this moment.' she thought to herself but to her surprise, it was someone she would be so grateful for.
"Emily?"
"JJ?"
"Are you okay?" JJ asked as she walked further into the bathroom.
"JJ, Thank god that you're here." she said as she opened the stall door.
"What happened?"
"I'm fat... My button popped off my pants when I got into the car. Then we I got into the elevator, I got hit with a wave of nausea. I haven't had nausea in weeks and It just hit me in the elevator out of nowhere. "
"Em, first things first, you're not fat, You're pregnant. It comes with the territory. Secondly, do you want me to get you anything? Saltines? Gingerale? "
"No thank you, I have some crackers and gingerale in my desk."
"I can help you with the pants Em. But this is only a temporary fix."
"Okay. Thank you JJ. "
"I'll be back, I'm going to go and grab a rubber band. Just change into those pants that you have in your go bag."
Emily nodded as JJ walked out. She went back into the stall and quickly changed her pants. When JJ finally came back, She handed Emily a rubber band and Emily gave her a confused look.
"JJ can you please tell me what the hell this is for?"
JJ grabbed the hair tie and looped it through the pants and around the button.
"I learned this trick when I was pregnant with Henry. It helps a lot and your pants are not as tight as they are when buttoned. "
"Oh Wow, Thanks JJ. "
"You're welcome. Now come on. I heard we have a case earlier when I walked out."
As she was walking into the bullpen, Emily looked over at Hotch's office. The blinds were closed but it was obvious that he was in there. Before she sat down, she placed her bag on the desk in which the buckle made a sound when it hit the desk. Out of her peripheral vision, she saw Reid jump when the sound happened. She looked over at Reid, could tell something was off with him.
"Reid is everything okay?" she asked as he looked up and made eye contact with her. His eyes looked sad. He wasn't his old self.
"Yeah. I just..." he paused
"You can talk to me, you now that right?"
"Yeah. I just.. my mother she's not doing very well right now."
"oh no, Reid I am so sorry. "
"I thinking about going to Vegas to see her. "
"Yeah I think you should. Take it from my experience. You should visit your parents as long as you can. This jobs takes so much but don't lose sight of the people who mean the most to you. "
"Thanks Emily."
"You're welcome Reid." she sat down at her desk. Right before she could say something else, there was a loud thump that came from Hotch's office and then the door opened. Everyone looked up at him and he made eye contact with Emily.
"We have a case, Meet in the round room in 5. Prentiss can I please speak to you?"
She nodded and headed up towards his office. She felt a few eyes on her as she walked over to his office but she ignored them. She closed the door behind her as she walked in and took a seat.
"is everything okay?" She asked
"Yeah, "
"Really because it sounded like you threw something at the window."
"Emily, Now is not the time to be funny right now."
"Okay, then what am I here for?" She spat
"We need to talk about the pregnancy. Work wise."
"Why? I've decided and I'm going to tell the team today"
"what?"
"Im starting to not be able to fit into my clothes anymore Aaron. JJ had to strap me into these this morning.".
Ignoring her sentence, He gave her another look. "Emily. People are asking questions and quite frankly, it's too dangerous for you to be out in the field."
"Is that what this is all about? You're breathing down my neck because you've got people breathing down your neck, don't you?"
"Yes I have a lot of people asking 100 questions. The director, Strauss."
"Well, I'm telling the team, so they shouldn't be asking questions anymore."
"I want you here for the remainder of the pregnancy. You can be with Garcia while the team is on cases and traveling."
"I know my limits Aaron. This isn't my first rodeo."
"Emily. This is my baby just as much as it is yours. I should show some concern."
"Aaron as long as this baby is inside of me, I know if and when i'm over doing it. . Im not negligent. "
"Emily that's not what Im saying."
"Really? Then what are you saying?"
"I just think that you should stay behind for the remainder of this pregnancy. What happens if something happens to you both?"
"It's not like I'm going out in the field and shooting bad guys or chasing anyone through the woods Aaron."
"Emily please."
"Are you telling me this as a concerned father or is that a demand from my boss?"
He gave her a stern look. She nodded in disappointment. "Wow." She said angrily. She stood up and left the room. He took a deep breath and got up from his desk and followed right behind her. As the team was gathering, she had every intention of telling the team the truth.
"Hey, Guys?."
"Everything okay Em?" Rossi asked
She looked up and she had everyone's attention.
"Yeah. I just have something I would like to share."
Everyone just starred at her. JJ smiled.
"Okay um. I've been hiding something for a few weeks now. "
"You're not leaving are you?" Garcia asked
"No. well not now but I would like to announce that my little family will be expanding in just a short few months." she placed a hand on her stomach and smiled. Garcia squealed. Morgan smiled and gave Emily a hug. Rossi congratulated her and gave her a hug.
Red gave her a hug and smiled at her.
"Congratulations Em. I'm so happy for you."
"Thanks Reid."
"I know that this is exciting news. Again congratulations Emily. but we have a case and they really need our help. "
Emily gave him a look, he knew that was a jerk move to make but he just didn't want anyone to ask any further questions. After the briefing, Emily was headed back to her desk when Garcia came up to her.
"Hey, I'm so happy for you! It's another kid I get to spoil. We should plan a girls night and you can give all the juicy details. Like who the father is, when or where." she said with a giggle.
"Garcia. I love you but I cant tell you that. Him and I are not even together. It was just one night. I just told him and he's still coming to terms with everything. I don't want to expose him just in case it doesn't work out."
"Ahh I'm sorry Em. "
"It's okay. He's doing good so far, I just hope that it stays and that he doesn't change his mind but hey looks like your stuck with me for the remainder of this pregnancy"
"What do you mean?"
"Hotch is making me stay here, so you're stuck with me PG."
"Oooh Sounds like fun Em. We're gonna keep each other company!" She said excitedly.
Emily smiled at her but wished that she was headed to the jet with the team. She knew that he was being overprotective but when is the line drawn?
The next few weeks would be the longest weeks for Emily. She loved Garcia but she also had so much respect for her. If she had to spend as much time as she did on the computer, she would go insane. It was at this time that she actually was mad at Aaron for getting her pregnant. She got over it quickly though as Garcia kept her company and brought her snacks.
Everything had its pro's and con's.
