The announcement of TalTal's death had reached Seung Nyang's ears with a bang. How was it possible? There were thousands of things that went through her head except that her master could die in battle. He was so strong, brave and intelligent that it didn't seem like him. But her eunuch's words weren't a lie. TalTal had died in battle.
Walking through the halls of the palace, she remembered every scene she had had with him, every piece of advice he had given her and how he had supported her to become the empress she is now, she had not been able to do it without him, his intelligence had saved her many times from great problems and discord on the battlefield that the palace represented and although they had once been enemies, things were resolved over time.
TalTal had no family, the prime minister had not formed a partner and much less a wife, always so focused on his work and serving Yuan, that he had not bothered to get some happiness for himself, Seung Nyang knew that since the death of his uncle, the world and loneliness had turned against TalTal, his heroic action of killing Bayan had been widely crowned and promoted in rank until he became prime minister as he deserved but for TalTal it was basically being left without his greatest guide and mentor.
Having eliminated all her enemies, Seung Nyang had managed to obtain the greatest of coronations, a title that had cost her since she decided to turn with someone with too much power, such power had managed to end the lives of her enemies one by one until only leaving a relative peace in the palace, having thus finished with Bayan Khutugh, and Bayan himself, having displaced TalTal's close relatives, he would have no relatives to honor his grave and would have to erect one in his honor, but for the moment he had to concentrate on the Mongolian invasion that was approaching, he stopped in front of the doors of the emperor's palace.
Ta Hwan lay in bed, the unbearable pain approaching him, he still continued to fight for his life, but Seung Nyang knew he didn't have much time left, telling him the truth would only leave him completely heartbroken, there would be no point in telling him, it was better to support him in his last moments of life so he could go in peace, the doctor had told her he was surprised the poison hadn't killed him earlier since the dose he had been given was enough to have him dead two weeks before, but Seung Nyang knew Ta Hwan was only clinging to his last hope of victory, a victory that would never come after TalTal's defeat, but he would never know, she sat him on her lap and cuddled him on her legs, as she made time to clean his ears, she stayed with him until night, where upon knowing the triumph of his victory she decided to finally fall asleep in peace.
Seung Nyang knew that there was not much time left to escape, she had prepared the entire palace to abandon it since she heard the news, her eunuch had done the job of evicting her well, when she left the emperor's room with tears in her eyes there was almost no one left, the palace guards still managed to resist the invasion but Seung Nyang knew that she would not have much time to flee, she decided to escape to her palace, where she had ordered a secret passage to be built a long time ago in case this situation arose at some point, she had already managed to evict most of them and only the guards remained on the road, the fight could be heard in the distance and Seung Nyang knew that she had to quicken her pace, just before reaching her palace, she ended up meeting the rebel army, these were commanded by General Hyun Kwan.
