A dark brown tom cat slumped on the bank of the river, his blue eyes dull as he laid unmoving. Why had Starclan forsaken him like this? His breathing was shallow and weak, wheezing in his chest from rhe water he'd inhaled with the river current that carried him and his apprentice away from their clanmates. The foolishly brave she-cat only wanted to save her mentor. The tom's eyes fluttered as the sound of large pawsteps thundered nearby and a large twoleg approached him. A smaller twoleg ran over, scooping him up from the bank of the river, and he went limp in defeat to his loss of consciousness.
Starclan stood around their pool of water in which they coukd watch their kin. A faded gray pelt watched darkly, his amber eyes studying the tom's situation carefully. He blinked and touched a paw delicatly into the pool, ripples moving quickly to the banks of the body of water as the image before him changed. A ginger, black and white she-cat came into view, her ears pinned back as she and her clanmates stood beneath a brown tabby. The starclan tom turned go the noise of steps behind him, his ear twitxhing curiously.
"Only they can control their fates," A ginger and white she-cat joined his side, looking into the pool of water, her green eyes studying the she-cat. "We must simply watch. What's been done is done, we only send the omen, that it is all."
The faded gray tom stared wearily at the she-cat, his voice rasping in his throat, "She chose her path... But what will come of her? And the tom? Can we truly not see the paths they'll soon tread?"
The she-cat shook her head and dipped her paw into the water, watching as the water returned to a reflective surface. "I'm afraid we hold no power here. We can only watch."
A silence stretched between the two star pelted warriors, their eyes filled with concern as they glanced back at the pool of water and then disappeared into the misty trees.
