Chapter 3: Veiled Desires

After their last consultation, the tension between Kakashi and Sakura had been undeniable. He'd pulled away before things could escalate, keeping the veil of professionalism in place, but Sakura knew better. There was something simmering between them—something neither of them acknowledged aloud but couldn't stop feeling. Every conversation, every shared look during class, had become charged with something more than just academic interest.

Sakura couldn't stop thinking about that night—how close they had been, the heat of Kakashi's gaze, the way his voice had deepened ever so slightly when he all but told her they couldn't cross that line. But now, because of it, there was no going back to innocent consultations.

A week later, she found herself out with friends at a crowded bar, a rare break from her demanding pre-med schedule. Laughter and the clink of glasses filled the booth around her as her friends chatted animatedly, but she wasn't fully tuned in. Her mind kept drifting—to a certain literature professor with silver hair and a scar tracing over one eye, an image that had somehow settled under her skin. Even in the noisy crowd, she couldn't shake the memory of his steady gaze and that moment between them, lingering like a secret she could barely contain.

It was then that she saw him—Kakashi, seated a few booths over, looking more relaxed than she'd ever seen. Gone was his usual button-down; tonight, he wore a dark, fitted sweater with the sleeves casually rolled up, revealing forearms that seemed somehow even more defined in the dim light. His hair looked freshly cut, a bit shorter but with that signature tousled look still intact. And for a moment, Sakura felt her breath catch.

Kakashi wasn't alone. Surrounding him were several men, all mid-laugh, immersed in a shared joke or story. To his left sat a guy with a cigarette lazily dangling from his lips, radiating a relaxed vibe. Next to him was a rugged man with a clean-shaven face, his smirk revealing genuine enjoyment of the conversation. Then a tall figure in dark sunglasses—strangely worn in the dim light—drew attention, his wild spandex outfit and animated gestures punctuating the group's laughter. Finally, across from Kakashi sat another attractive guy with brown hair tied back in a loose bun, his easy grin adding to the fun atmosphere.

Sakura's stomach fluttered as she recognized them: Kakashi's tight-knit group of friends. Asuma, Raidou, Gai, and Genma. She'd heard their names mentioned during her consultations with Kakashi, but he had always kept his personal life under wraps. Now, seeing them together, it was clear they were exactly as he had described. But no matter how much she wanted to study each of them, her gaze inevitably returned to Kakashi.

Her favorite professor, the entrancing energy from their last encounter flooding back. He hadn't noticed her yet, giving her the perfect opportunity to take in the sight of him—so effortlessly cool and dangerously attractive in this casual setting. The professor she knew from the classroom felt distant now, replaced by this more relaxed, yet equally intense, version of Kakashi.

Sakura's friends were currently engrossed in a conversation about an upcoming trip, their attention elsewhere. So, before she could second-guess herself, she quietly excused herself from the group, her feet moving instinctively toward Kakashi.

Kakashi noticed her immediately before she could even get too close. His mismatched eyes, always sharp, flicked toward her as she crossed the room. The surprise that flashed across his face was quickly overshadowed by a darker, more dangerous intensity. His body stiffened slightly, but he maintained his casual demeanor as he took a sip of his drink.

As Sakura got closer to their table, several pairs of eyes darted toward her with mild curiosity, and for the briefest moment, she felt like the only woman in the room. She wore an all-black outfit that created a striking contrast against her light colored hair, which was styled in a messy bun, with a few loose strands softly framing her face. The pleated mini skirt she wore danced around her thighs with each step, paired with a fitted, long-sleeve, off-the-shoulder top that highlighted her shoulders and the graceful curve of her neck. White sneakers completed the look, giving her an air of effortless style and comfort.

She caught Kakashi's sharp gaze first, but it was Genma who leaned forward with an inviting grin, clearly intrigued.

"Well, well, who's this?" Genma asked, his voice full of mischief as he took in Sakura's appearance. His eyes were lighthearted but appraising, and Sakura could sense the playfulness behind his words

Sakura smiled enticingly, but her gaze instinctively shifted towards Kakashi as she greeted him, her voice carrying the weight of unspoken familiarity.

"Sensei. I didn't expect to run into you here."

Sakura felt the subtle shift in attention as the men's gazes flicked between her and Kakashi. Genma, ever the instigator, raised an eyebrow, his smirk widening with mischief. "Sensei? Kakashi? Hey, man! Don't tell me you've been keeping her all to yourself."

Then, sliding over with an inviting grin, Genma patted the now open spot next to him. "Come on, sit with us. No need to be shy," he said, his tone warm yet teasing.

Sakura hesitated only briefly, her eyes catching the way Kakashi's jaw tightened slightly under the dim lights. But feeling a bit bold tonight, she smirked in his direction before slipping into the seat beside Genma. As soon as she sat down, the group's casual banter paused a bit as their focus shifted to the new arrival.

"Genma's already rolled out the red carpet," Raidou chuckled, lifting his glass toward her. "But I hope you're old enough to drink, or you won't survive being around him for too long." Raidou raised his hand, catching the attention of one server as he placed a request for Sakura's drink.

"So, Kakashi's student, huh?" Asuma added, raising an eyebrow. "You sure you're comfortable hanging out with a bunch of old guys? Especially one with a bad smoking habit." He said, raising the cigarette stick he was holding.

Sakura's smile was easy as she fielded their questions. "Well, first, I'm Sakura. And yes, I'm Kakashi-sensei's student. Second, I'm more than old enough to maybe outdrink all of you. And third, none of you look old at all for a group of 'old guys,' so I think we're good."

Gai, ever the boisterous one, slapped his knee. "Ah, a woman with spirit and wit! We've been graced tonight."

Sakura's gaze drifted to Kakashi then, her green eyes twinkling with a hint of challenge. "Of course, this is all assuming Kakashi-sensei is comfortable with me being here."

Before Kakashi could respond, Genma, never one to miss a beat, casually draped his arm over the back of the couch behind her. "Don't worry about him," Genma said with a grin. "I'm sure he doesn't mind sharing… for a bit."

The smooth move wasn't lost on anyone, least of all Kakashi, whose eyes darkened slightly as he watched Genma's arm settle behind Sakura, the easy grin on Genma's face doing little to calm the tiny flare of irritation building inside him. He took a slow sip from his drink, then set it down with deliberate care.

"Careful, Genma," Kakashi said, his voice calm but edged with a quiet warning. "As she mentioned, she's my student."

The implication in Kakashi's words hung in the air, unspoken but unmistakable. Genma, true to his nature, wasn't fazed. He simply shrugged, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Your student, huh? Well, I don't see any textbooks here. We're off the clock, aren't we?"

Genma's attention flicked back to Sakura, eyes gleaming with fun intrigue. "So, what's a student of Kakashi's doing in a place like this?"

Sakura matched his energy, her smirk widening as she shot back, "It's the weekend. Can't a student take a break?"

The group erupted in laughter, and Genma gave a sort of defeated look but the response did not stop him from moving further into her space. His arm remained comfortably draped across the back of the seat, drawing her deeper into the banter.

"Okay, fine." Genma chuckled. "So, what's your major, then?"

Sakura leaned back, feeling the amusing pressure in the air but not entirely minding the close proximity. She gave him a teasing glance before responding, "Why don't you take a guess?"

Before he could answer, the waitress arrived with their drinks, and Genma smoothly passed her a glass, placing it directly into her hand. Sakura murmured a thanks and didn't hesitate to take a sip, her eyes still locked with Genma's, challenging him.

"Alright," Genma said, a smirk playing on his lips. "Let's see. You look like the type who'd study something intense, and clearly, you can handle yourself around us guys… so I'm thinking something serious. Law, maybe?"

Sakura's eyes sparkled as her eyes drifted around the group, enjoying the game as she waited for the other's guesses. Of course, Kakashi didn't participate because as his student, he most probably knew what her major was.

"If it's something intense, my money's on engineering," Raidou guessed, a playful grin tugging at his lips.

"Nah, can't be engineering," Genma interjected, his voice dripping with casual confidence. "She's too pretty for that. Never seen a girl this pretty in engineering. You'd know because we had a few engineering classes together." He gave Raidou a knowing look.

Gai, ever the optimist, boomed with a wide grin. "That's where you're mistaken, Genma, my friend. All women are beautiful. Every single one!"

Sakura watched Genma roll his eyes, his smirk never faltering. "Fine, fine, didn't mean to offend. That was just my way of saying you're pretty," he said, turning his gaze back to Sakura with an unapologetic grin.

Before Sakura could reply, Asuma exhaled a thoughtful drag from his cigarette, his eyes narrowing in contemplation as he sized her up. "Hmm, but if you're Kakashi's student… I'd guess literature. You've got that sharp, analytical look—like you're used to dissecting ideas, people, whatever's in front of you."

Sakura smiled, entertained by the guess. "Interesting. But no, not quite."

Gai, ever the enthusiastic one, inclined forward with his signature grin. "I'm going with something like sports science! The way you carry yourself—it's got to be something active! Maybe fitness or kinesiology?"

Sakura laughed, shaking her head. "Good guesses, but I'm not that focused on numbers, books, or sports. Let's just say it involves a lot more... anatomy."

Asuma and Gai exchanged glances, surprised by her playful tone, before Kakashi finally chimed in, cutting off the speculation.

"You're all off," he said, voice calm but amused as he looked over at Sakura. "You'd have to be a bit more observant to figure it out. She spends her time with more than books or the gym."

He held Sakura's gaze briefly, his eyes gleaming with just a hint of pride. "Sakura here is in pre-med. Spends her nights studying anatomy—just not in the way you're all thinking."

Genma let out a low whistle, his grin widening as he raised his glass to his lips. "Pre-med, huh? Aiming to be a doctor?"

Sakura nodded, her smile radiating confidence. "That's right. I guess I really do have a knack for dissecting things." She shot a playful glance at Kakashi before turning her attention to Asuma, who had been the one to mention dissecting. The subtle shift in her focus didn't go unnoticed by Genma, who shot a knowing look at Kakashi, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.

Kakashi merely shrugged, pretending not to notice Genma's questioning smirk.

"Well, enough about me! How about you guys?" Sakura said, flashing them a teasing smile. "Care to introduce yourselves? Since Kakashi-sensei's the only one I know here."

Genma leaned in first with his usual charm. "Genma, at your service. I'm in construction management these days—more like wrangling a hundred contractors at once. We're practically building half the city at this rate."

The man who'd guessed engineering, Raidou, nodded in agreement. "I'm Raidou, an architect. Been designing buildings since college, and Genma and I have been teaming up on projects for years now. We go way back."

Then Asuma gave her a laid-back grin. "Asuma. I'm your friendly neighborhood fire captain. Most days, I'm putting out fires—literally—but every so often, I get to kick back with a cigarette in hand like tonight."

Then there was Gai, who couldn't be missed with his enthusiastic energy and booming voice. "I'm a fitness coach and personal trainer!" he declared, flexing slightly for emphasis. "Helping people unlock their full potential, both mentally and physically!"

Finally, Kakashi, who had stayed mostly quiet, glanced around at the group before adding, "We've all been friends for a while. Met through a mutual hobby—airsoft. We started off just hanging out, going to the shooting range, then somewhere along the way it just… stuck."

Asuma chuckled, lifting his drink. "Yeah, it was just a few rounds here and there, but now it's more like we're just trying to keep up with each other. Old guys with busy jobs who still want to stay sharp."

Sakura raised a brow, clearly amused. "Airsoft. That's interesting. I'm guessing you're all probably so good at dodging questions," she teased, picking up on the easy camaraderie between them.

"Guilty as charged." Genma grinned as he took a sip from his glass.

Sakura couldn't help but smile. "You all sound like a really tight-knit group."

Genma bent closer, his voice dropping just a notch. "Well, we've been through a lot together, I think. That's why it's aways nice to add a fresh face to the mix."

The air between them was light, but the underlying tension was undeniable—especially when Genma made no effort to hide his interest in her.

But as he glanced down, he noticed Sakura's glass was empty, and his smirk widened as he seized the opportunity to make his move. "Looks like you could use a refill," he said smoothly, "So, Sakura, what's your poison?"

Sakura's lips quirked in a charming smile as she subtly glanced at Kakashi, who had been observing the exchange with a faint intensity in his gaze. But she turned back to Genma, eyes sparkling. "Surprise me."

Kakashi's gaze remained fixed on Genma as he leaned in closer to Sakura, his voice low and smooth. "Let's get a drink," Genma suggested with a grin. "I'll show you where they keep the good stuff." He was on his feet in a heartbeat, flashing her an easy, confident smile that clearly expected her to follow.

Sakura, seated at the end of the couch, had little choice but to get up as well. She glanced briefly at Kakashi, catching the hint of irritation in his eyes, but the mischievous spark in her own didn't waver. With a small, cheeky smile, she fell in step behind Genma, her face curious as she let herself be led toward the bar.

Kakashi's hand tightened subtly around his glass, watching the two of them, though he managed to keep his expression casual. A quiet, unreadable intensity marked his gaze as he followed their movements, a flicker of something simmering just below the surface.

As soon as they were out of earshot, Asuma leaned back in his seat, taking a slow drag of his cigarette before giving Kakashi a pointed look. "So, student, huh?" His voice was teasing, though his question held a deeper note of interest.

Gai, ever the one to prod, and always the one to ask something embarrassing leaned forward with an enthusiastic grin. "Are you really going to let Genma work his magic?"

Kakashi remained still, his body language as unreadable as ever. "Yes, she's a student...and I don't know what you're talking about." His voice was calm, almost detached, but the faintest trace of annoyance flickered beneath his cool exterior.

Raidou wasn't buying it. He smirked, chiming in with a knowing glint in his eye. "Do you know that you're such a bad liar, Kakashi?"

The group chuckled, the tension lightened by the banter. But as Kakashi's gaze subtly shifted back to the bar, the humor in his expression slipped. There, Genma had positioned himself closer to Sakura, his hand resting a little too low on her back as he leaned in to say something into her ear. She laughed, and he could imagine the sound as easy and genuine, given that her body language was comfortable in the moment.

Kakashi's friends followed his line of sight. Gai's brows furrowed, and with his usual dramatic flair, he said, "Why not go and save the princess before the dragon gets any ideas?"

Asuma, blowing out another stream of smoke, chuckled and added, "Student or not, as long as she's not underage, you know we've got your back. Besides, Genma's not exactly subtle."

Raidou set down his glass after taking a sip, a grin dancing on his lips. "We'll hold him off if things get out of hand."

Kakashi's jaw tightened slightly, though he said nothing. His eyes stayed fixed on the way Genma's hand lingered just a bit too long on Sakura's lower back, and how easily she leaned into the conversation with a smile. It was a light moment—harmless, perhaps—but there was a limit to how much control Kakashi could exercise.

As they made their way to the bar, Genma's hand rested lightly on the small of Sakura's back, guiding her through the crowd with a casual familiarity that made her laugh.

She knew Genma's type—flirty, teasing, and always quick to charm—but tonight, his playful energy was probably dialed up a notch. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that Kakashi's eyes hadn't left them since she chose to stay by his side.

"Seems like someone's paying extra attention tonight," Genma murmured in her ear as they neared the counter, his breath warm against her skin. His fingers lightly brushed the fabric of her skirt as if making a point.

Sakura chuckled, catching his meaning immediately. "You think?" she asked, a teasing smile gracing her lips as they leaned on the bar. She could feel Kakashi's gaze even now, though he was seated further back with his friends.

"Oh, I know," Genma replied, moving a little closer, making it look like they were deep in conversation. "His eyes have been glued to us since I invited you to sit beside me. I'm almost feeling a little territorial."

Sakura gave him a playful nudge. "Territorial? Please. You're just trying to provoke him."

Genma smirked. "Maybe I am. It's fun to watch him squirm. But if I may ask, what's a girl like you doing hanging around a guy like Kakashi? You know he's all work and no play."

Sakura chuckled softly, already somewhat familiar with Genma's reputation. "Kakashi-sensei's got his own charm," she replied, glancing up at him with a knowing smirk. "Besides, I think you're underestimating him."

Genma grinned, tilting his head as if weighing her words. "Am I now? Or are you the one being too loyal to a man who keeps you at arm's length?" He gave her a once-over, his gaze lingering for a second too long. "You know, I could show you a good time if you let me. You deserve someone who'll actually make you laugh and relax a bit."

Sakura laughed again, though this time there was a hint of firmness beneath the mirth. "You're really sweet, Genma. But I should probably let you in on something."

Genma raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Oh? And what's that?"

Sakura leaned in slightly, her tone lighthearted but firm. "Since we're being honest here... it's actually Kakashi-sensei that I'm interested in."

Genma blinked, clearly surprised, before a slow grin spread across his face. "Ah, so the mystery is solved. I was starting to wonder if my charms had finally failed me."

She laughed, shaking her head. "Your charms are perfectly intact, Genma. But, Sensei… well, he's different."

Genma turned and leaned back against the bar, still smiling but with a more insightful look. "Different, huh? I guess I can't blame you. There's something about that brooding, aloof thing he does." He paused, a mischievous glint in his eye. "You know, he's never been great at expressing his feelings. You might have to make the first move."

Sakura tilted her head, her smile turning more thoughtful. "I know. But that's part of the appeal. He's a challenge."

Genma's laughter bubbled up again, full of genuine amusement. "And here I thought I was the one playing games. Well, good luck with that. If anyone can get under his skin, I think it's you."

As the bartender arrived and took their orders, the flirtatious energy between them mellowed into a comfortable rapport. Genma chuckled to himself, shaking his head as he turned back to the bar with a grin that hinted he'd just discovered the evening's best-kept secret. His expression was one of pure amusement, as though he'd gained some unspoken insight into the night's unfolding dynamics.

"You're going to break a lot of hearts, Sakura," Genma teased as they waited for their drinks, "including mine."

Sakura shrugged playfully. "I doubt that. Besides, I think you bounce back fast."

"True," he admitted, clinking his glass against hers when the bartender returned. "But if Kakashi messes this up, you know where to find me."

"I'll keep that in mind," she replied with a grin, lifting her glass in a toast and taking a swig of her drink. Both of them knew it was all in good fun, but there was an unspoken understanding that Sakura's heart had already made its choice.

From across the room, Kakashi's eyes narrowed slightly as he watched them laugh together. Even from a distance, the tension was unmistakable.

Gai cleared his throat with a knowing smile. "Looks like they're both having a good time," he observed, drawing the table's attention to Genma and Sakura laughing at the bar. This seemed to spark something among the group as Raidou sat forward, his grin widening as he eyed the others.

"Kakashi, I know I said we'll be holding Genma off, just in case. But…bets, anyone?" he smirked. "Genma's aiming to take her home, right? What do we think—will he actually pull it off?"

Asuma chuckled, tapping his cigarette lightly against the ashtray. "Not a chance," he said, shaking his head with a grin. " I think Sakura's not the type to be charmed that easily. If anything, she's probably stringing Genma along just to see him squirm." He glanced at Kakashi, who was keeping his attention on his glass, though everyone could tell he was listening closely.

Gai joined in, flashing his usual, earnest smile. "I think Genma's persistence is admirable, but Sakura is clearly too formidable for a mere flirtation. I agree with Asuma that she's only humoring him." He leaned forward, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "Kakashi, my friend, I believe she may have someone else in mind."

At that, the group turned to look at Kakashi, waiting for any sign of his thoughts. He finally glanced up, eyebrows raised, and shrugged with a faint smirk. "I'm glad to know you're not underestimating Sakura," he said coolly, his tone neutral but pointed. "But let's say I wouldn't waste my money betting on Genma tonight."

The men laughed, but Raidou pressed further, grinning. "You sure, Kakashi? Maybe she just needs the right nudge."

Kakashi didn't respond immediately, but his grip on his glass tightened again, eyes narrowing slightly as he watched Genma's hand drifting to the curve of Sakura's hip, pulling her closer, with his smile a touch more than friendly, and the group let out a chorus of amused whistles and oohs, adding fuel to the fire. Kakashi's expression hardened almost imperceptibly—his usual casualness now cloaked in something far sharper.

When Genma and Sakura finally turned to head back to the booth, Kakashi rose to meet them, catching Genma's eye with a calm yet unmistakable look. As he passed by Genma, Kakashi's voice dropped, carrying a hint of warning. "i've warned you, Genma," he said, voice low but clear. "You're toeing the line."

Genma blinked in surprise, but his grin only widened as he raised his hands in mock surrender. "Dude, chill!" he laughed, shrugging lightly. "But you can't blame me for trying, can you?" His gaze flicked to Sakura, his mischievous look lingering just a moment longer.

Kakashi didn't reply, but he moved closer to Sakura, prompting a soft gasp as she caught the blend of his cologne with a faint hint of whiskey. Leaning in, he lowered his voice to a murmur meant just for her ears.

"Let's talk outside," he said, his tone firm and unyielding, leaving no room for debate.

The change in Kakashi's tone sent a shiver down Sakura's spine, catching her breath in her throat. Before she could respond, his hand found the small of her back, his touch warm and steady, radiating through her clothes in a way that made each step feel deliberate. His fingers pressed just firmly enough to guide her through the bustling crowd, their path marked by an unspoken urgency.

Sakura managed a quick, slightly awkward smile and wave back toward the group, though her mind was elsewhere. Kakashi, on the other hand, didn't spare a single glance behind them, his focus wholly on the way forward. There was no farewell, no explanations—just the quiet command of his presence beside her, making it clear that, for now, nothing else mattered.

As Kakashi and Sakura leave the bar, Genma returns to the table where Asuma, Raidou, and Gai are seated, all of them having observed the earlier interaction with curiosity. Once Genma sat down, there was a brief moment of silence before Asuma raised an eyebrow, lighting a new cigarette with a smirk playing on his lips.

"So," Asuma starts, exhaling a stream of smoke, "What did he say to you?"

Genma shrugs, a half-smile on his face. "Oh, just the usual. Kakashi isn't exactly subtle when it comes to protecting what's his."

Gai, who had been sipping from his drink with an amused look on his face, perks up. "Youthful passion!" he declares loudly. "Kakashi may pretend to be indifferent, but deep down, his flames of affection burn brightly for Sakura!"

Raidou snorts, shaking his head. "I can't believe it's taken him this long to find a girl he's genuinely interested in and for him to actually make a move."

Genma leans back in his spot in the booth, a glint of mischief in his eyes. "Well, it's not like Kakashi was quick to claim her. I was just helping him speed things up."

Asuma chuckles, flicking ash from his cigarette. "Speed things up by putting your hands all over her?"

"Not all over," Genma says with mock innocence. "Just enough to get his attention."

Raidou crosses his arms, leaning forward with interest. "So what did she say? Didn't look like she was pulling away."

Genma laughs, shaking his head. "Let's just say, as charming as I am, she's all about Kakashi. Said it straight to my face."

The others share a round of knowing glances. Gai clasps his hands together. "Ah, how beautiful! A declaration of love for the ages!"

Genma grins, raising his glass to that. "I have to admit, it stung a little—being rejected for him of all people. But you should have seen Kakashi's face. He was practically ready to throttle me."

Asuma leans back with a smirk. "Yeah, but Kakashi doesn't do that kind of possessive thing, does he? He usually keeps everything bottled up."

"Not tonight," Genma says with a glint in his eye. "I think I poked the hornet's nest."

Raidou laughs, shaking his head. "So what now? He's not going to try and get back at you, is he?"

Genma shrugs nonchalantly. "Let him try. It's not my fault Sakura's got good taste." He winks, making the others roll their eyes.

"Careful," Asuma warns playfully. "Next thing you know, you'll be sparring with him."

Genma just grins wider. "I could use a little excitement."

Gai, in response, randomly declares and raises his glass enthusiastically. "To youthful romance!"

Genma raises his glass in return, laughing as he glances toward the door where Kakashi and Sakura left. "This is gonna be interesting."

The group clinks glasses, falling back into their usual rhythm, though the air is still buzzing with the realization that something new—and highly entertaining—has just begun.

The door of the bar swung shut behind Kakashi and Sakura, and the sudden hush of the night enveloped them, hitting him with an almost jarring intensity. The sounds of laughter and chatter faded into the background as they stepped into a secluded alley, leaving only the cool air and the steady thump of his heartbeat echoing in his ears. Then, he turned to face Sakura, his dark, intense gaze locking onto her green eyes

"What are you doing here, Sakura?" His voice was low, steady, but there was a sharp edge to it, a restraint he was barely holding onto.

They were no longer surrounded by the noise and distractions of the bar, no longer hidden by the dim lighting. Out here, under the clear night sky, it was just the two of them, and the tension between them felt even more pronounced. She could have played it off as coincidence, as a friendly encounter, which was the actual truth, but they both knew why she approached their table—it was obviously because of him.

Sakura tilted her head slightly, her lips curving into a mischievous smile. "I think you already know the answer to that."

Kakashi's gaze darkened, his jaw tightening as his control slipped further. "We can't keep doing this, Sakura."

"And yet, here we are," she replied softly, her voice a teasing whisper that sent a shiver down his spine.

He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. The barriers he had so carefully constructed were crumbling fast, but he had one last thread of control left to hold on to. "This isn't going to end well."

Her eyes softened as she stepped closer, the space between them shrinking with every breath. "It doesn't have to end tonight, Sensei," she said, her words laced with a quiet challenge.

And that was it—Kakashi couldn't fight it any longer. With a final, silent decision, he reached for Sakura's wrist, his fingers curling around it with a sense of purpose as he led her toward his car without a word.
