"Shit, shit, shit," I ran, holding Hatty to my head, who was latched onto my head in turn.
'Faster, faster,' She begged.
WHHAHAHAHAH!
Fucking poltergeist.
"ROOK, NOW!" I bellowed, jumping out of the kantoian style tower, or its thin ass paper window at any rate.
Riiiip!
Welp, there goes the rice paper.
Its a shame I was on the top floor.
"Shiiiiiiit," I expressed myself, as gravity took hold.
As I fell down toward the beach, the ghostly creature followed me, leaving the safty of its tower.
Big mistake.
'What hoe, foul creature,' The now Corvisquire dived, releasing the pay load in his talons.
A bucket of salt.
WhhHhhhHHHHhaaaaahah!
The poltergeist screamed in pain as the salt purified its current form, weakening it.
While the blue and black raven looking pokemon ascended again after hitting his target, continuing to providing overwatch.
I, however, was still falling, gonna need to fix that.
Putting a barrier around myself in the last few feet of the fall to slow my descent, I landed softly on the beach.
I had to pause though, panting for breath, three years of training might have done a lot to strengthen me, but that doesn't mean shit against something that can float through walls.
Smash!
'Merow!' Purrloin flew, or more accurately fell, from another paper window, along with Mei, who had busted it open.
'Weeeeeee,' Mei couldn't be happier.
Oh, man Mustard's gonna have us running laps... again.
Something for future Jericho to deal with, right now Purrloin was waving at me with something in her paw.
The cat Pokemon had just what we needed to stop this thing permanently.
"Throw it!" I yelled, reaching into my pouch for some sulfur.
The purple cat compiled, throwing what appeared to be a gold ring into the air, the ghosts focus point, the haunted object.
Specifically it was the Anchor point for the Phantom in this world.
"Salamander I call for flame, a spark of destruction, Fireball!" I yelled in English, raising my right arm and aiming.
Fuuuush.
A fireball the size of my head shot out from my hand, obliterateing the airborne ring.
Bang.
...
Thud.
Thud.
The mustelid and feline landed gracefully on their feet.
"Ah," The old poltergeist shuddered, releasing a weak gasp, glowing even as its form burned away.
Fush.
And it was gone.
"Nice work, Mei, Lara," I complimented.
"Yes, Teacher," Was Mei's more regimented responce.
"Sure, Master," Compared to Lara's more relaxed, if now teasing response.
Yes, Lara, Purrloin had gained a nickname, mostly because she was such a good little thief.
So yeah, Lara, after Lara Croft the tomb raider herself.
The little cat loved it.
She had gained a lot of confidence in her time with us, but she had still been born and raised by criminals.
She had spent 7 years with them before we came along, after all. Though there was no lost love between them for Lara, she was scared of them, but healing.
I'd also taken the time to give both Lara and Rook the run down on everything, from magic to my death and reincarnation.
Rook had sworn his allegiance to the circle then and there, and then myself as a 'Warrior beyond death'.
My trust had also been rewarded with Lara, with her allowing us to check her over, I had been concerned about her surgical scars since I found them.
As Fiona found out, some kind of everstone-eviolite... thing had been implanted in her, other than that she was healthy.
But, it did help explain why Rook had evolved, and not her.
Mei and Hatty both evolved at higher levels so that wasn't a concern, but Lara's lack of evolution had, had me worried.
"Well the tower of water is clear," I looked at the full moon in the sky, "We better head back, and tell Master Mustard his 'prankster' has been taken care of."
Lara chuckled, 'What do you mean master? It was just a ghost."
I rolled my eyes, that excuse had quickly become our go to, and if they thought we meant Ghost TYPES, oh well.
Hatty yawned, 'Less talk, more walk, leg slave.'
Snorting I replied, "Yeah, yeah."
I brushed down my yellow t-shirt and jacket, followed with the black shorts, I didn't care about the clothes, mind you, but it was still my 'uniform'.
Really, I hated the uniform for Mustard's dojo, but I had no interest in bringing sand into my dorm room.
Waving up at Rook, I gave him the signal informing him we were moving out.
'Another monster down,' Mei happily commented.
'Indeed, Lady Mei,' Rook glided down beside us.
'Chop, chop,' Hatty pressed.
'Missing mummy, Henrietta?' Lara teased, her dark typing showing.
Hatty growled.
'That's not nice Lara,' Mei scolded.
"Knock it off, both of you, we're moving," I sighed, both Hatty and Lara had similar personalities, and they clashed because of it.
'I'll call Opal as soon as we get back, and you can talk to your mum and dad,' I soothed my first partner.
Moving ahead I couldn't help but remember when I had first met Hatty's Mother.
She was... giggly, in a malicious way.
Opal had made the trip out to the Armor Isle herself, rather than transferring the Hatterena's Pokeball.
Where the old woman had proceeded to apologize to me immediately upon meeting me, and I waved her off immediately in turn. Instead, I thanked her, Hatterene, and Togekiss for letting Hatenna travel with me.
That, if anything, had put me in the mothers good books.
Enough so that she hadn't torn my mind apart immediately for the situation we were in, and long enough for us to find an empty room to discuss clan stuff.
Unfortunately, lying wasn't an option against such a strong psychic, I wouldn't have a hope of stopping her if she wanted in my head.
Case and point, she HAD gotten into my head.
In all fairness it was out of parental concern, but she knew... about everything now, including the supernatural.
Fortunately, it was enough to give her pause, and for her daughter to defend my actions.
It didn't make the Psycho Cut near my throat any less fun, but I knew my limits and remained calm.
To make a long story short; the mother still wasn't overly happy with what had happened, but a quick explanation had her more curious than upset.
It ended with Hatterena excepting me into her clan, with amusement at my strange calm stubbornness, and curiosity at my very being.
At least we had gotten a vow of silence from her, she understood the scope of what we were dealing with.
After all of that Hatty's mother had simply returned to the main room like nothing had happened.
Strangely enough she got along well with Mei's mother as well, likely on account of how calm she was.
Yeah, poor Lucario had turned pale at that.
At least Lucario had Hatty's father to lament with, though I'm not sure the Togekiss actually knew HOW to lament.
"We're back!" I announced entering the dojo.
The main room was coated in wood paneled flooring, with a big blue carpet in the center, alongside four support pillars and tan walls.
Then my 6th sense kicked in.
"Shit," I dropped as Mustard flew through the space I'd just occupied.
"HO-HO!" The old martial artist laughed as he landed, "Well done, Jericho."
"Dammit, Master, would you stop doing that!" I grumbled loudly, automatically taking a defensive stance.
The man grinned and folded his arms behind his back, "Now how else am I meant to train you against surprise attacks?"
I continued to grumble, first it was spatial awareness, then reaction time, now surprise attack?
Nah, he just got a kick out of it, literally in some cases.
"How was your task?" He asked, now stroking his grey beard in curiosity.
"The usual," I deadpanned.
"Completed with collateral damage?" He raised a long brow in question.
I sighed, but nodded.
"Well, you know what that means," He chuckled.
The team, Pokemon and Human alike, groaned in solidarity.
To be fair the man thought we were causing major collateral damage simply repelling Pokemon, not supernatural beings.
And hadn't that been a surprise?
I hadn't been expecting this isle to have so much supernatural activity on it. That lasted right up until I learned it had been a battle ground in the war.
There's a good reason this Isle didn't have any towns or cities, or even villages, well, anymore. The 'Soothing wetlands' HAD been, now it was just water filled craters.
It was a horrid waste of life, but all of the vengeful spirits that now haunted the area gave me and my team practice we desperately needed.
"Yeah, we'll get on it in the morning, but Hatty's supposed to talk with her mother tonight, over vid call," I explained, tiredly.
The man smiled understandingly, and nodded, "Of course, of course, carry on children."
One thing I liked about my current instructor was how relaxed he was, so long as you put in the work at any rate.
"Why don't you go find your folks, Mei?" I suggested, giving her a pat on the head, "We'll see you later, alright?"
Mei grinned, her ear flicking at the attention, 'Alright, Teacher!'
Then her aura flared and she sped out of the room, likely sensing her parents presence.
With that out of the way, the rest of us continued on, walking through the main hall, toward the student dorms, where I spotted Honey checking the hallways.
"Oh, hello, Jericho, Hatty, Lara, Rook," Honey took the time to greet the Pokemon, and learn their nicknames, something that had instantly endeared me to the sweet woman.
"Evening Honey, is Hyde already down for bed?" I asked in greeting.
The Pokemon present gave their own greetings, though she didn't understand them.
The brunette chuckled, her blue eyes sparkling at the thought of her and Mustard's son, "Oh, yes, it's bed time for my little boy."
"Fair enough, in that case, I won't keep you, we have a call to make," I twitched. For how calm a child he would be in the future, he was a terror as a toddler.
"Oh, of course, have a good night," She waved us off without any fuss.
That was all I needed to continue to the student room we were all staying in.
Click.
"Finally," I looked around the cluttered room, it was basic, a wood framed bed complete with storage space underneath, a wooden desk and chair, and a simple wooden wardrobe.
Our room was a little different than most though, a bird perch was next to the desk for example, but it was the spells, alchemical symbols and pentacles decorating the walls were the biggest difference, along with a small self made bookcase next to the bed, alchemy had really helped with that.
I was even wearing gloves with the alchemical formulas for Earth and Metal nowadays, it was too useful not to.
Not after its effectiveness against the Grimm.
The fingerless black gloves had a silver thread weaved in to make the symbol, and Iron knuckles.
Useful equipment.
Even with all of this on display, though, no one cared, or thought it was real for that matter. For other students and even Mustard himself, all of my occult leanings were a weird hobby.
That suited me just fine, the less people that knew, the better.
For now, however, I moved over to the desk and activated the small laptop on top of it. The piece of technology was something Gran had brought when she first visited, as a way to keep in contact.
Not that phones couldn't do that, but I was grateful to my elderly family member for her thoughtfulness.
"Ready," I asked the little witch, as I loaded the video call.
In response, Hatty popped onto the desk in front of the laptop, 'Yes!'
Annnnnd, call.
Beep.
Beep.
Bee-
Click.
Wow, that was fast.
On the screen appeared the forms of her parents, Hatterena and Togekiss, no Opal though.
'Hi mum, dad,' She greeted her parents aloud, for the microphone.
'Good evening my little dew,' The Hatterena smirked, as her daughter blushed.
Lara, of course, sniggered.
'Muuuuuuum,' She whined.
'Oooooh, what happened! You're filthy,' He father stated with concern.
'I'm fine daddy, we just had to deal with, umm, a thing,' Hatty hesitated, and I flinched.
The mothers gaze was already on me.
"We took care of, IT," I stressed, raising my arms in surrender.
'Muuuuuum, it was that THING, you know, the THING we have to deal with?' Henrietta pushed.
'Haaa, I'll have to hear the story later, in person~' She replied, with a grin.
Nope, I backed away slowly, leaving Hatty to speak with her parents in peace.
Frankly the less time I spend around her mother, the better for my health.
Instead, I fell back on the blue quilted bed in the room, Lara following me and jumping on my stomach as I lay back on the bed.
'Master~' She yawned curling up to sleep.
Ignoring the sleepy cat, I pulled out my phone, switching it off of silent mode.
In the few hours I'd had my phone silent, in order to hide and move undetected, I'd gotten a few messages that needed responding to.
"Alright then," I opened Fiona and Zoey's messages first, they were... interesting.
Fiona and Zoey both, had sent the same picture of themselves with their partners, specifically an Indeedee and Shinx.
Indeedee was standing besides Fiona looking exasperated as usual, the humanoid purple and white squat Pokemon, with brown eyes, and downward facing spiral horns, was rubbing her temples.
Whereas Zoey was holding a small Shinx, an electrical lion cub, with large rounded ears, a blue front half with yellow bands around its forepaws, and a black rear end, with a yellow star at the end of his tail.
More accurately, they were celebrating their first 'Solo' success, evident by the burning doll in the middle of a salt circle.
So that's why they had wanted to know about cursed dolls.
I could only sigh in irritation at their actions, but at least they were safe.
From what they had described it was a simple bound spirit, not a demon. I had still warned them away regardless, but they'd apparently chosen to ignore me.
Is this what it feels like on the other side?
No wonder Gran had been so stressed.
"Sorry Gran," I felt the need to apologize aloud.
Quickly shacking the thought away I sent them a well done message. We would, however, be having words when they visited this month.
The next message I needed to respond to was from Sonia, my sister, the electric type GYM leader of Galar.
Oh, yes, a GYM Leader, alongside Nessa.
Not a champion, no, but I was damn proud of her.
Then again, Leon wasn't champion either, he was training with the Draco clan at the moment, alongside his still rival, Raihan.
In this time line, he hadn't received training from Mustard, nor his Charmander, and that had definitely had an effect.
I know that because Mustard had been so busy fighting Rose over me he hadn't had the time.
That in turn had attracted someone else's attention.
Namely Peony.
Peony was chairman Rose's brother, and he was the new champion of Galar.
Now you might think that was a bad thing for me.
Not in this case, Peony really didn't like Rose, and wasn't a fan of what had happened.
You see, the one time GYM Leader had heard about Rose effectively trying to kidnap me, and drag me back to the mainland, not physically mind you, but through politics.
I repressed a shudder, politics.
Then on top of that, the man had heard of the debacle that was the attack on the training school, and how the teaching had been handled after Rose had forced his company into it, making it a political mess between Macro Cosmos and the League.
It was because of that lack of unity that Peony blamed his brother, and not my Grandmother who had originally pitched the idea.
Now it should be noted that Peony is a Father, and he was PISSED that children had been put in danger.
Yeah, as it turns out he's the father of TWO daughters. Peonia and a girl named Penny, who wasn't in the game. Though that might be because she was going to be going to a boarding school in Paldea.
Long story short, Peony had returned to the league proper, blitzing the GYM's in less than a month, and then entering and winning the championship.
It was to be expected of a former GYM leader and champion class trainer, I suppose.
Mustard meanwhile, was ecstatic that he was no longer THE champion of Galar.
But, that had all happened 2 years ago.
In the present, Sonia was just updating me on the Challenger's she'd had today, not that I couldn't watch it on the BattleNet, if I wanted to.
But she really needed to vent because apparently a kid had tried challenging her with several flying types. Let me repeat that, a child had tried to challenge an electric type GYM leader with flying types.
I snorted under my breath, "No wonder she's sent so many messages today."
At this point all I could really do was send texts in agreement with her, and criticism on the problem, to help with her stress.
Moving on though, I found a very interesting message.
"Oh?" I wondered aloud, curious at a new message I had gotten from Cynthia.
Yes, I'd actually sent her the information on Professor Laventon's journals, with Mustard's assistance, some years ago.
Not that she actually knew much about me beyond my interest in history, she only knew me as one of Mustard's students, and that was enough for her.
Holding titles like Champion, GYM leader or Professor granted a lot of trust in this world.
Enough so that the Sinnoh trainer had gotten in contact with me.
Come to think of it I still don't think she knows my age.
Regardless, I opened the message and began reading, "Now that's interesting."
'What, master?' Purrloin yawned.
"Apparently Cynthia's coming over for an archeology dig in the Crown Tundra," I informed her as I read the message.
Interestingly, several other professors and academics are going to be present as well.
I sat myself up holding Lara to my stomach so as to not disrupt her too much, "I need to go speak to Mustard about a trip to the Crown Tundra, anyone interested in a little expedition?"
My Black winter boots crunched through the snowy terrain as we made our way to the closest, not to mention, only town in the area.
The Crown Tundra was in the southern part of Galar, a snowy wonderland filled with pine tree forests, and the ruins of bygone eras.
And. It. Was. Freezing.
It was cold enough that I was wearing my winter clothes. Thick grey furred black cargo pants, with a grey long sleeved shirt, then on top of that I had a grey furred winter trench coat.
But cold or not, it was a small price to pay for some time off the damned Isle, you can only remain in one place for so long against your will and not start getting annoyed with the situation.
To my joy, Mustard had been very accepting of my request, and had gotten permission from my Grandmother and Champion Peony for me to go to the mainland.
But even with permission, 3 weeks had barely been enough time to get everything ready, my large brown backpack was testament to that.
But I really, really wanted to go on this expedition.
You see, Gran would be on this trip to research the area, and it was the perfect chance for us to spend some time together. Interestingly Peony appeared to have the same idea, he would also be there with his daughters, much like in canon, only earlier, and with both of his kids.
Essentially it was a family holiday for the humans of the group.
Now normally I would need permission from the chairman, but Rose was too... preoccupied to stop us as of late.
'Hey isn't this where all those bodies were buried from that ghost train you told Fiona and Zoey about?' Hatty questioned me.
"Corpse train, and yes this is where they dropped off the bodies, they'll probably be SOME shenanigans on this trip, but honestly? I'm just here to catch up with Gran," I told her.
That particular legend still had my attention, but stuck on the Isle as I had been, there was little I could do to check into it, that I didn't already know.
'Woop, vacation!' Mei cheered from beside me, ever the ecstatic individual, 'This is gonna be awesome.'
'A wonderful reason in itself, my friend,' Rook commented from my shoulder/bicep. Ever the gentleman he had a wing out over my head where Hatty was resting, stopping the snow fall from reaching her.
'Oh, yes, how wonderful, I could be back in my bed using Master as a pillow,' Lara shivered from the crick of my neck, using my Scarf and coat as a barrier from the cold, along with my body heat.
Her bed? Sure, whatever.
Still, I did have to correct her, "Errr, more likely we'd still be dealing with another ghost, or undead, or curse, or... well you get the idea."
The little cat groaned loudly, 'It can't ever be easy, can it,' Purrloin sassed.
Hatty sniggered at her misfortune.
I ignored their play by play, and continued forward, finally reaching the slope into the town of Freezington.
"Let's just get to the rendezvous point, yeah?" I commented, carefully stepping down the steep icy slope and heading into town.
The town of Freezington was... quaint, several fields took up the center of the town, surrounded by several dozen tan and brown cottages.
That's really all the town was after all, a small hub, founded by gravediggers.
I shuddered as we entered the town boundary, "Anyone else feel that?"
'I do, Sir Jericho, what is it?' Rook's feathers fluffed up at the stillness in the air.
'The veil,' Hatty answered first, recognizeing the feeling.
"Yeah, it's thin here, really thin," I frowned at the Town.
Mei's face scrunched up, 'But it's thin on the Isle as well, right? Why does it feel, so... dark.'
She pointed at the town to reinforce her point.
'It smells stagnant,' Lara added, wrinkling her nose.
"Because, while the Isle was the sight of a major battle and genocide, its healing, and as bad as it was, it was it was only a few years of suffering," I lectured, I would take any opportunity to teach.
"But, this place, it's centuries of death from around the world consolidated in one area, with suffering from the local ecosystem besides. Add on to that the old civilization that was destroyed here, and that they likely had ties to the supernatural as well," I rolled my hand trying to find the words, "Simply put? It adds up."
Lara shivered, disliking the information, 'So we're walking into a meat grinder?'
'What's the matter? Scared~,' Hatty teased.
'Yes!' Lara retorted, 'I am scared, this stuff is scary.'
'I think it's cool!' Mei chirped in.
"Okay, enough ladies, we aren't looking for trouble, but keep an eye out for WHEN it finds us, we can't just ignore it," I interrupted.
'Quiet right my friend, t'is our duty as members of the circle,' Rook nodded seriously.
Lara grumbled.
I honestly respected that about Lara, she was terrified of the supernatural after her first brush with it, but she refused to run and that was courageous.
She didn't do it this out of duty, she faced it for herself, to confront her fears.
I shook my head pulling out my phone to double check the map address, "Okay, this is it."
It was the south western most house, meaning we'd had to cut through the whole town to get to it.
Hang on a minute, is this the house from the game?
Well, we won't find out just standing here, I pulled out my ID pass and knocked on the door.
Knock.
Knock.
Kno-
And the door flew open before I could even finish knocking.
"HAHA!," Peony of all people was the one to open the door, the tan skinned man was similar to his brother in appearance but sporting a full trimmed beard and light bright green eyes.
He looked down at me with a grin, then noticed the ID pass in my hand, "Another one for the group? How ULTRA-MEGA AWESOME!"
The current Galar Champion pumped his fist with a massive smile.
'I don't like him,' Hatty responded instantly. I'm so glad I've kept the ritual of apathy up on her.
'I do!' Mei copied the man pumping her fist.
"AHAH you get it don't ya!" He smiled wider at Mei.
'Give him a chance,' I tossed in her mental name for effect, 'He's a good guy, and he did help us out.'
Hatty huffed.
"Hey there, we're here for the expedition," I confirmed.
"Nice one, we're gettin' ready for an adven-tour in 'ere, come on in, come on in," He gestured wildly.
We compiled with the exuberant man, following him into the house.
And well, it was crowded for such a small place, having said that there couldn't be more than a dozen people here.
But there were several prominent people present.
"Nia, Pen, looky what we have here," He grinned at his daughters.
Peonia was a few years my elder, with short straight blonde hair, green eyes, and light tan skin. She wasn't in her rebellious stage yet, her hair wasn't dyed pink and she wasn't using make up, but it looked like she was getting there with how she huffed at her father.
Penny, however, looked to be a little younger than me, the girl had very pale skin, likely a combination of her mothers genetics and never seeing daylight. She had pale blue eyes, and short red hair, also, prominently, some large round glasses.
It should be noted that both girls were holding pokemon, Peonia carried a Tyrunt, the little red t-rex look alike held tightly in her arms.
While, Penny had an Eevee, with the tiny brown and cream foxy Pokemon perched on her head.
It was honestly smart for both girls to have Pokemon considering the brutal conditions here.
"See girls, told ya there'd be kids your age you could talk to," The man laughed.
Peonia sighed and rolled her eyes, "Yeah dad, reaaal cool," The sarcasm was strong with this one.
Penny looked at her own feet and didn't answer.
"Awww, Nia I knew you had it in you my darlin' girl," He cheered, the sarcasm going over his head, or more likely ignoring it, in favor of optimism.
The foreign contingent was looking on curiously, but hadn't said anything.
"Nice to meet you, the name's Jericho Arc, don't call me Jerry. These are my teammates, Hatty, Mei, Lara, Rook," I introduced, indicating said Pokemon as I went.
'Hey!' Mei greeted, waving manically.
Rook was the only other one to introduce himself, not that the humans understood, 'A pleasure ladies.'
Cynthia was present with the other Kantoian speakers, the blonde woman cocked her head as my name was said.
Her grey eyes widened slightly, "(Arc-San?)" The woman questioned, with some confusion, in Kantonian.
"(Nice to meet you too, Cyn,)" I greeted the woman using Kantoian, and my online nickname for the woman.
My practice with the language had paid off, having what was effectively a pen-pal in the woman for the past 2 and a half years, along with Mustard to practice with, I was basically fluent.
Cynthia was obviously shocked, mouth a gape, that her historian pen-pal for the past couple of years was a child.
"You speak, Kantonian? That's brilliant lad," The current Galar champion declared.
"Yeah," I confirmed, as if it wasn't obvious by now.
"Perfect-o, our translators haven't arrived yet," The ecstatic father announced.
Oh, wonderful... work.
"Say you wouldn't happen to be Magnolias grandson would you?" The man continued a little more seriously.
"Ah, yeah I am, been training with Mustard for the past couple of years, courtesy of your arsehole brother," I informed him.
The man sighed even as his eldest daughter raised a brow in confusion, "Yes, I'm sorry you got involved in that."
"Not your fault, mate, I appreciate you taking the championship. If anything, it keeps Rose in check," I retorted, it helps that Mama Jenny had put my information on Oleana to use.
In other words she was on trial for attempted theft of government research, specifically for Macro Cosmos, federal espionage, in other words, treason.
The rift between league officials and the league chairman were in rapid decline, most of the good will he had built was in tatters, and his company was under investigation.
It was honestly a surprise he still had the resources to harass me. Then again he wasn't happy with me, specifically because he couldn't have me.
Peony, however, perked right back up, and laughed giving a big thumbs up, "No problem-o!"
"(Apologies for interrupting young man, I am Professor Oak, this is my granddaughter Daisy, and one of my students, Professor Elm)" The elderly Professor cut in, holding out his hand in Galarian greeting.
I shook his hand in turn, and honestly tried not to stare. The Pokemon professor himself, professor Oak, the old man was wrinkled with short gray hair and black eyes.
Though I will admit to some confusion, I thought he would know Galarian considering his brother worked in Alola, where they speak Galarian. Then again I had also expected a Japanese sounding name as well, but that wasn't the case.
Was it because he was from Pallet town as well? Maybe it's similar to Ash being a descendant of Aaron, the kingdom of Rota IS very close to Pallet Town after all.
It could also be cultural crossover, hence the Galarian sounding town name.
Oak's granddaughter's name was also Daisy, which supported my theory, she was in her mid to late teens, with long light brown hair, and green eyes, her skin was rather pale as well.
She bowed in a traditional Kantonian manner and exchanged a greeting with me.
Both of them had a few Pokeball's on show, the same as Peony and Cynthia.
Elm, however, had no Pokemon balls, he was in his early twenties with short brown hair, and had grey eyes covered with a pair of glasses.
Unfortunately, his name 'Elm' also threw a wrench into my theory, as did Cynthia's for that matter.
"(A pleasure young man, please let your champion know we're very thankful for the experience. This is such an amazing opportunity to study ancient Pokemon abilities and how they may have been used, where they came from, how they may have formed, and evolved into what they are now)," Elm was enthusiastic, if not nervous.
I nodded to him, wasn't this the same guy that thought Samuel Oak was his rival because of an A- on a test?
I guess that hasn't happened yet?
Oh well, again, not my problem.
From there I began introducing everyone in their native language, going around the room.
It was tedious work, but everyone seemed happy to meet each other.
Cynthia sighed, "(Well this certainly wasn't what I expected when meeting you Arc-san.)"
I shrugged at her, "(Honestly I wasn't sure you'd believe me if I just told you.)"
The older woman chuckled, "(Good point, I probably wouldn't have believed you.)"
"(Regardless, I hope everything is going well, last time we chatted, you said that you had gotten funding from Sinnoh's League?)" I questioned.
She grinned happily, "(Oh, yes, I have permission to publish my studies on ancient Sinnoh, or Hisui I suppose. Thank you again for the information and pictures.)"
"(Not a problem for a fellow history buff. History is meant to be learned from, not squandered away because it's inconvenient)," I waved off the praise.
The blonde champion huffed in amusement, "(I couldn't agree more, actually a colleague of mine was fascinated by it all, I think he'd like to meet you, even if he won't admit it. Cyrus-san is a little strange, but dedicated.)"
Cyrus, the leader of team Galactic the current incarnation of the team galaxy survey corp.
And a fucking psycho that wants to end the world, and make a new one.
I nodded at her politely, but redirected my focus, to get off the subject.
"(Excuse me professor Elm?)" I got the young student professor's attention, "(Do you not have any Pokemon with you?)"
He blinked at the question, "(Oh certainly not, I'm not much of a battler, I'm a scholar you see, so I-)"
I cut him off with a heavy sigh, and turned to the champion, "Peony, professor Elm doesn't have any Pokemon with him."
"Oh, well that's not good, the wild Pokemon around 'ere can be MEGA vicious," He declared, making a thinking face.
"(Is there a problem?)" The man asked nervously.
"(Yes and no, it's probably best to stay near someone with Pokemon for safety, the wild Pokemon here are pretty strong, unless you happen to be an Adept?)" I joked with a snort.
"(Ah, no, no, no, definitely not)," The man declared with some fear.
Professor Oak sighed at his colleague, and Cynthia raised a brow at him, while Daisy fidgeted a bit nervously.
"(Apologies, my... an old friend of mine has a granddaughter that's a psychic, and she traumatized him somewhat)," Oak sighed.
I raised a brow at that, the fear was nothing new, but an old friend? Hmm, Agatha maybe? But then who was her granddaughter, the only adept I can think of is Sabrina.
Well, that's only out of people I know from the show and games so, maybe not, but it fits.
"(I see... well I don't know how to break this to you Professor, but I'M an Adept, a foundling of the Psychic clan)," I declared, better for him to freak out now than when I might actually need to use my psionics.
The man froze up.
"(Oh for goodness sake, calm down, he isn't going to hurt you)," The Pokemon professor pinched his nose at his students reaction.
It didn't help that both Hatenna and Purrloin laughed at the man's panic, not that they knew what we were talking about.
"Knock it off you two, poor guys scared enough as is," I patted both of them on the head.
'What's wrong teacher?' Mei asked confusedly, looking between the two of us.
"Apparently, he has a trauma induced fear of Adept's, and seeing as I'M an Adept, well," I trailed off with a sigh, gesturing at the rapidly paling man.
Rook scoffed, readjusting himself as I moved my arms.
'But, why?' The mustelid questioned, confused.
I shrugged, "Didn't ask."
"You're an Adept, really?" Penny spoke up for the first time with excitement, "Can you speak to Pokemon?"
I nodded at the shy girl, "If they're sapient, yeah."
Penny had been introduced by her father, too shy to speak up around all the new people, so I wasn't expecting THAT to get her to talk.
If anything I expected her to be terrified of me.
Apparently that wasn't the case, she rushed over grabbing the Eevee from her head and holding them up to my face.
"What's he saying," She asked.
...
"Erm," I have to wonder are Eevees sapient?
I looked at the curious Eevee.
"I can't translate if he doesn't speak," I deadpanned.
The girl blushed, "O-oh, right. Eevee, are you happy?"
'Yes!' The Eevee barked, wagging his tail.
Apparently they are.
"I don't think you need a translator for that, but he said, yes," I translated.
"Cool," Penny smiled, hugging the Pokemon.
Apparently Peony was happy with that as well, bursting out into an overjoyed laugh, at his daughters happiness.
"(You're really an Adept?)" Cynthia questioned, also curious.
"(I am)," I confirmed.
"(Fascinating, and what is a foundling?)," She studied me.
"Erm," I wasn't sure how to answer that without freaking people out.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Oh, look, a distraction.
Peony sped to the door, flinging it open, "Welcome!"
Well it looks like the rest had arrived, Gran included, this was going to be an interesting trip.
Where were the translators though?
A/N:I'm back, wedding went well.
Also, happy Halloween/Samhain depending on how you see it.
On to business:
Yes I'm using the more western names from the English dub, mostly because I'm not as familiar with the Japanese names, and I would get confused fast. Think of it as how japan westernized rapidly after WW2 and just add naming conventions on top of that.
*Looks at PokeLeaks*... I fucking knew it.
Seriously though, not what I expected for a E rated game, cut content or not.
@BiazarKaiser- you aren't wrong but I'm pretty sure a Corviknight counts as a flying tank as is... so long as no Tinkaton are present.
@gryphan.master900- if you've read this far you'll now know that the pokemon do undeed have nicknames now.
