Chapter 4 – Mary, Mary Quite Contrary
"Last one outside to the garden is a sleepy wombat!" Jessica Wiggle called out from the patio, "You can't say that twice!" Sam, Jeff, Anthony and Murray called back in unison, but before they could get up from the lounge chairs, Jessica took off. "Hey! You can start without us!" Jeff called out as he got out of him purple armchair, but by the time the four of them caught up, Jessica was sitting in the garden chair. It was a nice sunny, warm Friday in town, "Sure is a nice day for the flowers in the garden." Murray said as he sat down next to their daughter. The red Wiggle hugged Jessica as Sam and Jeff sat down as well. Jessica started to chuckle to herself "Anthony you need to make sure a bee doesn't land on your nose." "Jessica, it's only a poem, it's not going to happen." Anthony said while chuckling as well. The Wiggles walked into the garden, in their garden were lots of flowers like, roses, violets, tulips, lavender, marigold and jasmine, there were also some fruit trees like apples growing there as well. "We need to water some of the plants today." Anthony said as he took an apple from the tree. So, after they had a talk, the Wiggles split up to tend to a different area of the garden.
When Jessica, Sam and Jeff got to the where most of the flowers were Sam got out a watering can "I'll get these watering cans filled up with water and we'll get started." He said, however Jessica followed him, "Can I help too Sam?" she asked "Of course you can Jessica, I'm always happy to get some help from you!" he replied, they got down to where the water tap was and started to fill 3 watering cans up, however there were so excited about today, they forgot about Jeff. Sam handed out the full watering cans "There's one for you Jessica, one for me and one for…" he then paused as he now realised there was one person missing, "Jessica, where's Jeff?". The two of them looked over the garden and saw that Jeff had fallen asleep in the violets, "Well they are called flower beds." Jessica said laughing. She walked over and gently shook the purple Wiggle's shoulder, "Oh… What? What's the matter?" he said with a yawn, "No, Sam was wondering where you were." She answered back "Sam has the watering cans ready." She added. Jeff and Jessica got up and got a hold of a purple watering can while Sam picked up the yellow one. While Jessica watered the jasmines she got an idea, "These jasmine flowers remind me of silverbells in the nursery rhyme, Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, maybe I can do that one next when I get back inside." She thought to herself. "These roses look very nice to give to Dorothy." Sam said to Jessica.
After a while around noon, Jessica started to feel a bit hot, "Whew… the flowers have the right idea, I'll like to get a drink of water, I'm thirsty." "Me too!" added Sam "Maybe we should go inside and have a break.", The Wiggles met back up in near the garden bench, "I think we go back inside and rest, it's very hot now." Sam suggested, "I have a feeling we're missing someone." Murray said, "One guess of who it is…" Jessica said as she walked to them, "Jeff Wiggle." They said in unison. Jessica went back into the flowers to see Jeff sleeping near the lavender, "Jeff, wake up!" Jessica called out. "How can you sleep in the heat? How about we go inside and have a nice cool glass of water." Jessica said.
When the Wiggles got back inside the Wigglehouse, they all had a glass of water, "I'll feel a little better." Sam said after have a glass. "Me too… I going upstairs." Jessica said as she placed her glass near the sink. Jessica sat down at her desk, got her pencils and a sheet of paper and started to draw a small grassy garden, a little girl in a hat that as a sash in it, she also drew some shells and small blue flowers in the bushes of the garden. When she finished the outline and started to colour in the page, she heard her name called, "Jessica, come down for some lunch." Anthony called from the kitchen. "I'm coming!" she called back as she got up and went downstairs.
Jessica and the other Wiggles had some sandwiches that has tomato, lettuce, and cheese. After she had a bite to eat, she went back to her bedroom and finished off her page of the rhyme by colouring it in. Afterward Jessica went back to the kitchen for some afternoon tea as she'd finished a bit earlier. Anthony had made some cookies for the Wiggles to share. Jessica told them about the page while getting a cookie from the plate "You are really good, can we see it?" Murray asked "I'll go and get it guys." She answered as she walked up back to her room to get her page that she finished. When Jessica went back downstairs to the living room to show the page that she finished, "That's great Jessica." Jeff said excitedly "It reminds me of Dorthy's garden she has." Anthony added.
After tea, the Wiggles went back outside to double check the garden is fine and to put the things they brought out back to the shed, Sam picked out a few marigolds for the vase back home. When they got inside, Murray started to cook dinner while Jessica had a bath upstairs and got into her polka-dotted nightgown.
After they had dinner and cleaned up the kitchen, the Wiggles went to bed, Jessica curled up under the covers with her colourful bear by her side.
