The Legend of Narumi Uzumaki, the Immortal Sage
Babylonian Myth
Narumi Uzumaki first appears in the ancient Sumerian texts as the Queen of Uruk, the wife and equal to the legendary King Gilgamesh. She is revered for her wisdom and unmatched strength, often called the Immortal Sage. Texts depict her as a powerful and enlightened ruler who co-governed Uruk alongside Gilgamesh. Together, they built a golden era for their city, and her bond with Gilgamesh was one of both love and mutual respect.
However, Babylonian legends also contain conflicting accounts. In some myths, Narumi and Gilgamesh are the same being, with Gilgamesh possessing the ability to transform between male and female. These stories suggest that Narumi was an embodiment of Gilgamesh's divine aspect, further confusing the line between ruler and consort.
Narumi's closeness to Enkidu, the wild man created by the gods, is well-documented. While Enkidu was a creation of nature, Narumi was seen as a bridge between human wisdom and divine understanding. Their friendship was seen as symbolic of the balance between nature and human civilization, a theme that repeats throughout her myths.
In one of the most tragic Babylonian tales, after Gilgamesh left Uruk in search of immortality, Ishtar, jealous of Narumi's influence and power, conspired with her father Anu to seal Narumi between the underworld and the real world. In some versions of the myth, Gilgamesh is the one sealed instead, leading to speculation that Narumi, as his other self, took on the identity of Gilgamesh during his absence. This sealing marks the decline of divine rule, with Gilgamesh revolting against the gods upon his return, leading to the end of the era of gods.
Additionally, in much older ruins discovered beneath the land of Uruk, inscriptions speak of Narumi as a figure from a lost era, predating all known myths and legends. These ancient texts claim that Narumi existed before time itself, and that every era is but a reflection of the cycle she has witnessed countless times. This adds to the mystery of her immortality, suggesting she precedes even the oldest known gods.
Greek Myth
Greek legends speak of Narumi the Immortal Sage as a wanderer who encountered many of the ancient world's greatest heroes. In some versions of the myth, Narumi sailed with the Argonauts, aiding Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece. Some texts claim she guided the crew with her wisdom and mystic powers, though others argue she merely observed their journey from afar.
One of her most controversial Greek tales involves Medusa, the snake-haired Gorgon. According to some versions, Narumi killed Medusa to protect mortals from her cursed gaze. However, in other more sympathetic accounts, Narumi is said to have healed Medusa, reversing the curse that had been placed upon her by Athena and turning Medusa back into a child. She then cared for Medusa and her two sisters, Stheno and Euryale, restoring peace to their tragic story.
Celtic Myth
In Celtic legends, Narumi is said to have ventured to the Land of Shadows, a mystical realm ruled by Scáthach, the warrior queen who trains heroes in the ways of combat. Many myths suggest that Narumi and Scáthach were friends, united by their shared immortality and knowledge of forbidden magic. Some accounts even describe them as sisters, both cursed to live eternally and share the burdens of their long lives. Together, they are said to have guided many heroes, including Cú Chulainn, on their quests.
Arthurian Myth
In Arthurian legend, Narumi's role becomes more ambiguous. Some versions of the tale claim that Narumi was the mentor to King Arthur, teaching him wisdom and the secrets of the mystic arts, much like Merlin. Others take this a step further, stating that Narumi was Merlin, either taking his place or being misremembered by later chroniclers as the same individual. As a shape-shifter and a figure of mystery, Narumi's identity seems to have blurred with that of the great wizard of Camelot.
Japanese Myth
Japanese folklore presents Narumi Uzumaki in several different forms. Some say she was a yokai, a supernatural being of immense power who roamed the land in various guises. Others depict her as a sister to Tamamo-no-Mae, the infamous nine-tailed fox spirit. In these legends, Narumi and Tamamo were both powerful fox deities, revered and feared for their abilities to manipulate the human realm.
After Tamamo's death, one myth claims that Narumi, grief-stricken and enraged, took on the form of a nine-tailed fox herself and laid waste to an army that had sought to destroy her sister. In other versions, Narumi removed herself from the mortal world, retreating into obscurity but still watching over Japan in secret.
Some Japanese texts even suggest that Narumi still lives today, her immortality allowing her to blend into the modern world. According to these tales, she walks among humans, hiding her true nature, but continues to protect and guide those she deems worthy.
